You're about to give your whole fanbase your retinal scan. I'm calling it now, in 6 months someone is gonna prop up the penultimate anti-b58 channel using AI Kern to talk about how n55 is the superior choice. As always man, keep up the good work.
I used to drive 340i and now I am dirving m2comp. It does not have B58 anymore but I can't not leave the channel because of this kind of topic. What a shot with easy explain ! Thank you very much !
So you’ve got all the B58 upgrades and more from the factory? Are you going to upgrade/tune the S58? Just curious that’s all. Congrats with a fantastic car!
@@Conservator. It may disappoints you that I am not driving G87 M2 but F87 M2competition which has S55 engine and the sound is worse than B58. I am planning tune for my engine after support mods(Obviously crankhub). Also I am not gonna be a highway worrier, so, probably target 500~600whp eventually for track. If I drive a vehicle that has S58, I would do same or even little bit more power without support mods. :)
I've seen a lot of your videos in the past and I love your new intros now. I love the new editing and all your information is amazing. What you do for our community is God's work. No joke. Keep them vids coming.
Can you do a vid on front strut bars? I've heard it makes a substantial improvement in handling and how the car feels, and is quite a simple and cheap mod. If you've already covered I'd happily watch it
For the b58 supra owners go with verkline lower control arms over SPL especially if you run an 18 square set up. There are issues with SPL LCA for the supra even with the bulletin.
Hey Kevin, speaking of suspension, a lot of G42 M240i (2022+) owners are hearing a thumping sound coming from the rear suspension. Colder weather, slower speeds, only on very minor bumps. BMW is replacing the shock absorbers but the noise is still there. Would you have any suggestions on what could be the cause? It sounds like a rubber ball moving around in a wooden box in the trunk...to imagine the noise we are all hearing
Honesty, the supra is what put BMW on my radar. Before then, I was worried about maintenance and longevity. I figured if Toyota trusted them, then I should take a look. I wanted the smallest B58 powered BMW I could get, so I got a gently used M240i. Afterwards, I bought a new X6 40i with the M package for my wife. They've both been great vehicles.
You just mentioned lca and briefly ts in the video, as you know spl have every arm in stock front and rear as well as tie rod ends is this something you could touch on here or possibly make a video discussing?
****I actually broke 3 all new suspension bolts once I upgraded to this mod. The bolts are aluminum. Is there an upgrade for the bolts?*** Also FYI, they can still seize up, you’ll need anti-seize…a lot.
The blue screws are titanium. You shouldn't put anti-seize on them as that also reduces the friction in the threads and will result in 20 - 30% excessive preload ( "overtorquing" ) when you tighten them to the torque spec as well as increasing the chances that they will loosen. The screws are 1/4"-20 socket head cap screws which are widely available at Home Depot and other hardware stores if someone is in a pinch. You can swap them for stainless steel versions if you feel the need to change them. Lastly, the screws are spec'd at 150 inch-lbs of torque (12.5 ft-lbs) which can sometimes be on the very edge of a torque wrench's adjustment range. If it is in the bottom 20% of the torque wrench's range then the error range is considerably higher and shouldn't be used if you have a better suited wrench.
Changing the roll center sounds good for less roll. But, how much will this effect wheel bearing life? Did you notice much less roll? If so, how many spacers you used or recommend? BTW. I appreciate your videos. Very helpful.
i used all the spacers and immediately noticed the difference. i actually reduced front camber to keep handling more neutral, because it made the car more tail happy and front end grip improved so much. it shouldn't have an effect on wheel bearing life.
VAC Monoball upper control arms are THE best upgrade right with Coilovers for these cars. I have not done tie rods yet or end links, but I would tell everyone lowering at all to get camber plates (I made the mistake of not)
I got VAC upper AND lower control arms and it was wayyyyy too agressive. Like, every bump in the road feels like a landmine agressive. Called VAC and they recommended to keep just the lower in Monoball , like @kern417 has. So I ended up with the opposite of you; just the lower per VAC recommendation.
@@pbasmadj Interesting... my mechanic explained to me that msot road noise is transmitted through the lower but most of the steering response is through the upper...
@@chriskamen2152 interesting makes you think. I have heard the M2 , M3 have the lower as monoball, and upper as rubber, so that was another reason I went with that config. But agree the upper have more role in steering response. I think ultimately both are good and improved, just in different ways. it was the combo of both that was just way too much. I have barely gotten a chance to drive it with the new setup, so will come back with review
For a street car to maintain comfort and not induce nvh a urethane bushing will be firmer but not as soft as rubber and not as firm as a spherical bearing.
This has been the best video to explain all this. Suspension is such a tricky devil for me. So much so that I've been delaying getting a coilover kit for over a year on my xDrive car just because I wana make sure I do it right and get the geometry correct. I just want a flush fitment and xDrive cars always have this terrible reverse rake look. What do you think would be the best course of action if I were to get my front end lowered without putting too much stress on the axles? Do I need to get other components like adjustable control arms to keep the geometry happy and not have too much stress on the axles?
Hey Kern with the SPL Control arm spacing, since you’re adding a spacer to the mounting bolt to raise your roll center, wouldn’t you also have to slightly lengthen the control arm? I feel like geometry wise, if you add a spacer to the stud to lower the control arm you’d also have to slightly lengthen it in order to compensate for the new positioning. Correct me if im wrong. (I know the spl’s are adjustable length)
no you don't. When you lower the car, the roll center goes down without changing the control arm length. This simply brings it back up without changing any other geometry. if you do make it longer then it changes the camber curve and other handling characteristics, so i kept it the same to avoid unintended changes.
Hi I have an f21 140i I watched the video but you don't mention steering weight, my main issue with the car is that the steering is uncomfortably light could this help by making it heavier?
@@vollcare4076 Like i said we can make our steering heavier with the push of a button. i would argue most of it is electronic steering tuning along with a wider front tire. Also their control arms don't create the same caster bias that we experience with just f8x arms. They have a wider track so all arms are longer.
Good evening, I have a question, I did not anything referencing the G12, a 2016 740i. I could not find anything on their site. Do they make anything for the G12?

If you install the spacer at the ball joint, technically the geometry says you need to increase its length.
