Love these How to Drive episodes... good to see First Constable Caine back. At 6.26, he travels down Whitehorse Road toward Box Hill and crosses Middleborough Road. More of these please. Cheers.

+Peter Anderson Hi Peter yes they are great. There are 13 episodes in this series so more to come. I assume you have seen our other driving films in our On The Road playlist.

+Matt W Brilliant isn't it... there's footage through Blackburn where the pedestrian overpass is. I've worked in several places around there including Blackburn Nissan in the nineties. I thought this series was shot interstate... love to know where the house featured is, where the Constable is washing his car. I want to see the rest of the series.

My driving career has lasted more than 20 years, even those old videos teach me and refresh my own driving habits

How did they get a POV shot with 2 hands while driving with a film camera on the guy's head?

The gas and fuel building at 8.40 was demolished in the late 90s but was only two years old when this was made in 1969.
Notice he double declutched at 4.25 on the down change.

Although not credited, the narrator sounds very much like the late Brian Naylor, Melbourne television personality and newsreader - with his particularly pleasant-toned voice and perfect diction.

I thoroughly LOVE this series NFSA. The cars, the street scenes, the advice. I'm curious to know where scenes are where we are driving like on the freeway and busier roads. Some have mentioned Whitehorse & Middleborough roads, Box Hill. Wondering where is 9:36? 0:58 with that wide road tram on right and cars parked? Freeway 4:51- & suburbia 5:56

0:58 Looks like Wellington Parade eastbound, between Spring St and Jollimont Rd

9:36 is Dandenong Road eastbound, at the intersection with Chapel St in Windsor/St Kilda

Suburbia 5:56 is quite difficult to recognise now, but I've realised it's again Whitehorse Road westbound near Blackburn station, between Railway Road and Chapel St

6:43 Whitehorse & Middleborough roads, Box Hill. Box Hill Boys High School (now just Box Hill High School) on the left.

Well, it seems I was wrong about the narrator - it was not Brian Naylor, but James Dibble. I stand corrected. I hadn't seen the first part of this series where James Dibble is credited. I think he sounds remarkably like Mr Naylor. Great series! Thanks NFSA for making it available.

When I went for my licence in Victoria in 1990, both of those were a requirement. I remember being nervous as hell, especially when I was doing the reverse park! But I still managed to get it done. The testers were quite hard markers, which isn't a bad thing at all TBH - but I managed to get my licence first time.
It wasn't until 2 decades later that I did an advanced driver's course. This I would recommend to EVERY driver - mainly to younger drivers, but also to middle-aged & older drivers. I only wished I had done it when I'd just got my P-plates, but better late than never... :)

Wahey, lots recognisable from Melbourne here! Dandenong Rd, Collins St, and possibly even some High St, Ashburton.

I wish traffic lights still went orange before they went green. It's so frustrating when you're stopped on a hill.

at 6:44 why we had to wait for the car comming from the left?

    • @NFSAFilms
      @NFSAFilms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

It's about being cautious in case the other car coming from the left did not give way - which is what happened.
