great video as always. the 'what if' game is my guiding light on the road. one of the hidden benefits is that, when another motorist creates a hazard, you feel pleased with yourself for anticipating it rather than angry at them for being reckless. it helps keep the driving experience positive.

Hi I've just found your channel and I'm glad I did! I'm a newly qualified driver passed a year ago who to be honest still feels like I'm learning to drive.
I've not found it very easy at all, nobody tells you about the real learning you need after passing your test!
Loving the videos as I'm always trying to learn how to be a better safer driver however I would love to see a commentary drive around a busy town rather than miles of clear rural roads 😅 would like to see how you deal with the real life business of town driving. I'm in Bury not far I believe your in Bolton. Thanks 😊

Very good. Especially the topic of eye checks. I have had very short sight all my life. First diagnosed when I had trouble at primary school. Thanks to my very first advanced instructor, a former Hendon trained Class 1, I was introduced to the point that ‘looking-and-seeing’ can be very different. This was in the days of the orange Roadcraft with MkII Jag. He also got me to go to my optician to be sure my corrected specs were able to give me the best vision possible. Now at 65 my corrected vision is still 6/4.5 - a number quoted in Human Aspects of Police Driving. Talking with my ophthalmic specialist she told me that most clients do not demand the highest level of correction. Also, and I cover this with my ‘customers’, few people are taught how to use their eyes. I believe that (British) police advanced training covers this as does the military. I started in the infantry not long after my start in advanced driving and the training I got to use weapons, especially the SLR and .303 with target identification etc. was all added to my driving repertoire and I made big improvements. Note that not all soldiers do this!

    Hello Reg
Great videos, it's my pleasure watching them.
A few days ago I suffered from a car crash with my car.
I'm from Cantabria in the north of Spain and it was in the night, driving in the highway.
Everything was OK but leaving a corner, a big bale of grass apeared in my racing line, a truck had been leaving some of them. I had just time to make an emergency braking and minimize the injuries.
Luckly I'm OK but my car will be repaired because of front damages.
Althought I consider myself an expert driver and I train making driving courses about security and circuit technics, I couldn't avoid the accident....
Anyway thank you very much for your advices....
    Kind regards
    Carmelo

Thanks Reg for great topic once again! Perhaps it should've been called . . . visual observations? I know you're limited to Five tips! But observations will include all senses incl. hear, feel, smell, not only the environment, but also your own car, and other traffic. Also time of day e.g. morning/evening work, or after public gatherings more traffic expected

On a side note, 0:52 'good' to hear the road noise on those bad surfaces, makes me feel less bad about my car with lots of handling mods that a M2C comes like that from factory ;)
