  • Here we have a 2.5 inch adjustable reservoir shock option from two of the top names in race level suspension products: Fox and King. So which one is right for you? We go over the technical differences so you can sort through the pros and cons for each.
    Here's the detailed blog post on the details

    I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ. Aiming for about 10 inch travel with some prothane coil inserts to help with bottom outs. I need a shock that can control the short wheel base through dunes and lots of whoops. As is with basic twin tubes it bounces around all over the place and the back wheels leave the ground alot. As far as weight goes it will be fairly stock, lightweight front bar and rear tyre carrier. If you could give me any pointers that would be awesome.

    What shocks do you recommend for riding on different terrain so i am not flying off the seat when drivingover a bump in a ram 2500?
    My shocks are due. I wrote down kingshocks but im not sure if i want to spend $3000 on front shocks eight now. Bilsteins seem to be ok but do you have other recommendations? We live on a duty road and well our drinks are all over when riding on that street

      A good simple set of Bilstien 5100's are going to give you a sizeable difference in ride quality. If youre on long dirt roads, you can step up to the 5160's. If you arent doing a lot of hard off road driving, theres no need to step up to high performance shocks like the Kings

      @@silkemueller1391 I"m jumping in here with my own opinion. If you're going to get shocks just spend a little more and dont get the 5100's. Those are just skinny, cheap shocks and you wont notice much of a ride difference and in the end you'll regret wasting the money. Get at least Bilstein 6112's in the front and 5160's in the back. I have those and they're great on and offroad although one day when I pay off my truck I plan to get higuer end.

    • @terrarecon
      @terrarecon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnnytorres277 agreed. I have those as a book mark suspension set up, have had them for 2 years and I off-road quite a bit, not high speed, but still over a variety of terrain. They have done very well. The best low cost option anywhere. King and Fox are definitely top tier, but those are on a whole other level and the prices reflect that. Eventually I will have to transition to those due to my rig being part of a major project.

      every adjuster we know is righty-tighty; meaning going firmer on the compression adjustment - more damping. That's either restricting the oil flow to the reservoir through a needle (kings), or preloading a shimstack in the reservoir (Fox)

    60 mph in my raptor on the highway is not the same as off road. So how can the speed be measured? Just beating up and down? Thanks sorry I’m stupid.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure so there are two speeds we talk about in this video. Shaft speed or the rate of suspension movement and vehicle speed. For the most part we are not necessarily all that concerned with vehicle speed on the road. How it rides at 10mph in your neighborhood is largely how it is going to ride at 80 mph in the fast lane. Off road what is considered high or low vehicle speeds is very subjective to the vehicle itself. 25 mph down a forest road might be blazing in an old leaf sprung Jeep, but would be barely creeping in Raptor, so we are not necessarily all that concerned with the specific number itself. When we say high speed off road, we are talking about driving on rough terrain at speeds that get close to the limits inherent of the chassis. When we are talking about shaft speed, IE high speed or low speed compression or rebound we are talking about the rate in which the suspension compresses or extends. Generally vehicle speed has very little to do with high speed or low speed suspension events. Although their is some overlap, high speed suspension tuning is largely what defines your bump stiffness and low speed dampening is what controls body motions like sway around corners, squat on the throttle, or dive under braking. If you take a turn at 2 or 200 mph how much it rolls has to do with low speed compression and rebound. Conversely regardless of vehicle speeds, how it feels over bumps that actually matter has to do with high speed compression.

    Can these shocks be used for towing?

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Certainly, the Fox DSC would be better suited for that since you can tighten up the low speed adjustment for road handling / sway. King will work as well, but off the shelf Kings are "typically" softer than Fox for the daily drive. So while this equates to excellent comfort, the handling is sacrificed, but we're being nit-picky here.
