I want to make it known I love Skyrim, I legitimately have over 2,000 hours on it lol. Kingdom Come also had the advantage to look back at all the successful rpgs over the past decade and fine tune the features of their game. Don’t take the title to serious ❤
2,000 hours? Pah! Milkdrinker, I have that in the character generator alone. Seriously, KCD was a fantastic RPG but difficult and unforgiving in places. I can't wait for the next WS game.
From that perspective a Studebaker would be a much better car than a Ferrari or Tesla and a Charlie Chaplin movie would be better than any modern day movie. Don't get me wrong: I'm glad you liked Skyrim that much but I got bored with it after about 40-50 hours. And it was certainly a fun game but it's not a KCD where I now have over 500 hours invested and still discover new things regularly which keep the game interesting. Yes the sword-fighting is challenging but by practicing a lot with captain Bernard you will improve and the the game gives you perk to make it even easier so you can take on a group of 5 enemies after a while. The writing, character building graphics and music make it one of the best games ever made. Imo this is one of the best, if not the best, RPGs ever made. But to each their own I guess,
@@ingeborgsvensson4896 - Well, one of the reasons I hae so much time invested in skyrim is the modability of the engine. Those can change the game in so many ways, recently I added and extra 50+ quality dungeons, upped the difficulty beyond hardest. The difficulty in KCD was pretty refreshing, I really enjoyed the swordplay and the challange, it becomes second nature eventually.
@@lonestarranger833yes but that was the exception. Bohemia was one of the only three kingdoms that were in the HRE, the other two being the Kingdom of Hungary and the Kingdom of Prussia, (and technically Kingdom of Croatia, but that’s just because they were a Personal Union of Hungary
The Kingdom of Bohemia was de facto independent, the king had no obligation other than to elect the Holy Roman Emperor and attend some imperial diets. This was codified in the Golden Bull of Sicily in 1212.
The quest where you go drinking with the priest and end up causing chaos around the town and have an orgy before having to fill-in a sermon the next morning was easily one of the top 10 quests I've ever played in a video game.
there's so many good quest on this game I kinda really hope they make a sequel, like a fusion of hte old game and medieval dynasty plus actually forge weapons and armors.
While keeping in mind that there's still a huge community out there still playing skyrim. So yeah, if the devs for Kingdom could have had such a budget, this would be a game that'd endure for a good 20-30 years from now.
@@DsgSleazy imagine having as much as budged as the avengers end game dude that would be frickin cool. reality check they hade a huge budget and they wasted it.
I think the reason why Henry being a voiced protagonist works so well is that he’s a character that actually fits into the world. He’s also completely predetermined, unlike in fallout 4. Fallout 4’s problem with the voiced protagonist in my opinion is that they tried to let you also characterize him how you wanted, but with voicelines that’s much more difficult to be immersive
When I started the game I had the german dub on. I heard the Heinreich (Henry is better in my opinion) and i instantly cringed, because the voice actor despite being good, is known in Germany to usually voice actors who are more cocky and less serious written chars so this was totally feeling weird to me to get a humble Henry talking with that voice. Switched to English and was happy again 😂
@@bobbywhite5319 still not very good fitting in my eyes yk. henry was a guy with no real experience, lived in a village in the middle of nowhere with and so on. His german VA however isnt like that at all voice wise. Other chars were better dubbed (with more fitting VAs) imo
aye i didnt like the combat at first and bandits kicked my arse..but the trainer at rattay.....worked away there till i was able to kick some arse back...and the bow too....had ahvy armour bandit bleed out to awound as i was running....sry retreating back...lol...the game was so good
I just dont like the forced targeting i want to be able to turn it on and off myself, it throws me off, especially when it switches to the guy who's 5 m behind the dude who's trying to flank me forcing me to eat the hit, but thats probably just a skill issue 🥲🥲.....@@dussel69deboath61
Many did but sadly it jsut dotn getting new content. Skyrim had a merrit to have an already buffed modding community behind it thanks to Morrowind and Oblivion.
A thing i like is how realisticly the game portrays the middle ages. Its not the filthy wasteland backwater that you often see in pop culture. Instead you have a vibrant society with culture and art and it's amazing. Especially how the castle interiors are so colorful.
@SteveBraoa-sg8hn that is bullshit. People bathed and washed their clothes regularly and baring some sort of disaster they also had enpugh food to survive. And yes. Of course people didn't have a lot of money outside of major cities. Their economy was based on a barter system. They produced everything they needed themselves or traded for what they couldn't. Your idea of the middle ages is archaic, based on stereotypes and you should really try reading a book for once in your life
Best RPG game I ever player. Last play through I was a drunk bum. The only skills I leveled up were pick pocketing and drinking. I would go town to town pick pocketing anyone wealthy just to buy food and alcohol. Any money left over from pick pocketing was given as tips to increase my reputation in the town. I had zero combat skills, refused to equip a weapon, rags for clothes, only slept in the streets but EVERYONE loved me. I was always in prison in the beginning buy once my skills got better its very satisfying.
now thats a way to play kcd, what i use to do is to regulary steal the armour store's money in rattay, then i started to do the same to several stores until i had enough to buy the best horse in the game
The 2 strongest points of Skyrim for the fans is that it can be highly modded, but also the fact that it takes place in the Elder Scrolls universe. When you love the universe of the game it makes it way easier to enjoy it and to tolerate the flaws that the game might have. That's why for me, as an Elder Scrolls fan, it's gonna be very hard to find a franchise that I love more than the Elder Scrolls series, because for me the love for the universe comes first. Not saying gameplay doesn't matter, of course, but it becomes easier to enjoy a 7/10 gameplay when you find the world of the game so perfect.
To be fair to the devs, I heard that they did want to include smithing and tried to implement it, but it was far too buggy and complicated even when compared to alchemy to put in the game before release.
@@mrholotape8376 looked into it a bit more and it was a feature in the pre-release versions apparently, but as I said, was basically untenable in the final game so they had to scrap it
@@raskolnikov6443it looked like they were gonna have a more realistic nutrition system too with the drinking water and also the various toilets around bohemia. Probably due to time and budget constraints.
the nature in this game has this unparalleled "touch the grass" feeling. I mean, there are better landscapes in a few modern games, but those roads and wild greenery, the way rain and thunderstorms at night are made... they really stuck with me as the most immersive
Playing on hardcore mode is a must to fully immerse in the game. I got lost in the woods at dusk while hunting. No map marker to show where I am, it got darker and I haven't saved for nearly an hour. It got me legit scared especially when I know there is a camp of enemy soldiers I could end up wandering into in that dark forest (also didn't bring my torch because my dumbass removed stuff to give space for hunting). After about 10 minutes of circling around in that forest, I finally found a river and can somewhat guess where I am on the map to finally find a way out. Never was I that terrified playing an RPG. Not even when playing Dark Souls.
@@akmal94ibrahim yep, forest is pitch black at night, especially in middle ages with no light pollutuon and smart phones with gps. You are at mercy of a nature in this case and thats how it feels in game
Ya. I don’t like it. Wanted to like it allot, bought it on Xbox in 2018 not long after it came out, but I just wanted to have fun and the game does everything to make sure there’s no feeling of fun, so I dropped it after a few hours, good riddance. The combat is so anti fun they should get an award. Complete waste of money.
I LOVE the fact KCD is getting all this retrospective love. Ive been simping for this game since release. Absolutely the best RPG ive ever played. If not the best game period.
I would pay $150 for this game I think its that good. It instantly became my favorite game since Morrowind (and still is, though Baldur's Gate 3 is close behind it). I was really worried when the game came out and the mainstream gaming press were completely put-off by it, so I bought a GOG copy (already bought it on Steam), and then an Xbox copy as well to vote with my wallet for this type of game. If Warhouse dumbs down Kingdom Come 2, I'm going to be devastated. We need way more of these immersive history lesson RPGs.
@@captbloodbeard they should make KCD2 set somewhere else in medieval time like Rome or Anglo-Saxon England... If they made it in Anglo-Saxon England they could set it during 1066 when the Normans invaded England... Vikings were still raiding during this time as well...
@@samjmk3029 well I don't know about Kingdom Come 2 being somewhere else, since that game is going to be the continuation of Henry's story, but sure a game like it set in another place and time would be very cool.
I haven't played the game, but I've watched gameplay and cutscenes and there is one thing that is a true testament to its realism. I'm czech and this game just feels like home. The Czech countryside just has a very specific vibe that the devs just absolutely nailed (they're czech, after all, but it is still impressive).
Im east german and this game really makes you feel at home :D the tiled stoves in some of the homes very such a cool detail! Also love the forests, grew up on the countryside and they feel so real.
I think actually the gameplay is terrible, for the reasons listed in the video. However, the world is absolutely like traveling back in time. I play it for the world.
As for there being no smithing in the game, I’m actually glad it’s absent. The game’s greatest strength is its extremely high fidelity toward showing the medieval era as it really was, and smithing as we know it from other RPG’s just wouldn’t make sense for the world they’ve built. Other titles tend to make smithing look like an all-encompassing discipline, where you can craft any variety of armor (ranging from leather to heavy plate), weapons, and tools. In reality, you’d need to have a lot of experience in a lot of different specialized categories and a MASSIVE workshop to house everything you need. Note the intro, where Henry’s dad gets a special hilt delivered to him for a sword. He didn’t make it himself, it came from a metallurgist whose sole occupation was creating ornate metalworks. Even a pro blacksmith cant just complete a sword by himself.
One thing I love about the game are the chapels. The developers did a great job of capturing the quiet reverence that a lot of smaller chapels have in real life. So much atmosphere!
I would legit stop by the chapels and just stand there a while taking in the sounds and views, imagining what it must've been like in the past. It felt so peaceful and immersive.
This game was glitchy at release but now that it’s updated it’s truly does feel like a realistic/historical “go anywhere do anything” style rpg. Maybe Skyrim has more stakes in the story and high fantasy elements, I would say this game is a treat for anyone who wants a historical, realistic medieval game, this is it, and at times this feels like time travel
I got it at release. Played it for a few days. Sort of liked it? And then never went back again. I forgot why I lost interest so fast. EDIT: Actually, I think I got really far, forgot to save, died, and didn't feel like doing it all again haha.
@@bdleo300well f Skyrim. It’s a Bethesda game. That’s all you need to know 😂 KCD was amazing, but the bugs and glitches lost me. I lost about 10-20 hours of gameplay because the the save corrupts and dumb crashes. I won’t touch the game anymore despite it being a good game when you write those issues off (they are fixed now I believe). However my 100 hour playthrough was pretty nice. Mastered my bow skill and was also pretty good at fighting in melee.

Having quest markers that only guide you to an area and not exactly to what you are (supposed to be) looking for or the fact that on "hard core" you can't see where you are on the map is awesome !!
This is how you _get to know_ and fall in love with a game world. This is exactly how I feel towards Vvardenfell, but not Cyrodiil or Skyrim- cause all I blood remember from them are quest markers @@dagerry
Okay this game is hands down one of my favorite games of all time. It’s such an underrated masterpiece. I think a lot of people are turned off by the very long beginning and the hard to learn combat mechanics. Seriously my first play through I was getting slapped around till about halfway through but I think that’s how the devs intended it to be
It was a solid game, I just never had anything to bring me back to it. It doesn’t have the same replay value as a game like Skyrim but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I only played Red Dead Redemption 2’s storyline once and that’s simply because I exhausted the content the game had to offer and the story it had to tell in one sitting. The only gripe I had with KC:D was the ending. It felt like I did a whole lot for very little.
@@0neiricNomad The ending is really bad despite what diehard fans try to claim. like 20-30 hours of playtime and none of the goals you had from the beginning were accomplished. They should have atleast had Istvan or whatever drop the sword or something.
i'm not a big fan of rpg but i decided to give it a try, I finished the game and I'm still waiting for its sequel. I never expected its ending lol I was waiting for the next objective when the game suddenly ended in a cliffhanger
I had a hole in my heart from not finding a game like Morrowind ever since I played that as a teenager. KCD filled that hole. Easily the greatest game ever made, IMO
I don’t think it’s under appreciated whatsoever, in fact, saying that is kind of insulting to the success that the game achieved. The developers have come out since release and said the game didn’t reach the heights they had hoped, due to lack of experience, and resources. What they managed to do with it is amazing, and that it managed to sell millions should be proof enough that it over exceeded their own expectations.
It wasn't hyped as much as Skyrim still is even TH-cam wise I didn't even know about this game till I found it through ESO on his TH-cam and I got frustrated and deleted it till last week and now I slowly like it more and more than Skyrim
The work they've done for a realistic RPG based on their country's history does make me wonder they would perform if allowed to go all out with a fantasy setting with some touch of grounded verisimilitude. Would be dope!
It would probably be total crap, just like any other fantasy game, including Skyrim. If you have a good story and a good concept for a game, you don't need witches, dragons, and all that stupid nonsense. It's just for people who don't know how to create an interesting narrative, so they have to supplement it to make it more bearable.
@@hardrockwhisker2771this statement is so bias and untrue lmao. Just because a setting has magic dragons and witches doesn’t mean it’ll be mediocre. It all has to do with execution.
@@theboy1625 - Exactly. This type of format would work fine regardless of the setting, as long as the developer is passionate about the subject. I for one would love to see a game like this in the Star Wars universe, where even basic Storm Troopers would actually be quite powerful and intimidating for most of the game until you get high enough level. I wouldn't want to start the game as a Jedi, I want to feel and earn my progression.
I couldn't have said so better myself, this game is the first game in a long time that made me sit awestruck in front of my screen when the credits rolled. This game just scores so well on so many fronts. It's eye for history, it's fun little mechanics, but especially it's story. I can't remember a single piece of media in the last 20 years where I ended up loving the characters as much as in this game.
I just love how you learn alongside Henry. Step by step. Together. If youve done a few playthroughs you can sometimes do it even if Henry cant but in your first playthrough you both need to be able to and you learn at the same time.
They really could have done a blacksmith mini game just like alchemy. They can reuse the bellows too, plus it’s be fun to put different handles on different blades, heating up and shaping the blades,
The saviour schnapps system is so well balanced it's amazing. They are hard enough to come by that you use them sparingly, but easy enough as to not make gameplay frustrating
I loved Skyrim, but KCD was a revelation. I picked it up very early in the COVID lock downs, and it was absolutely a bright spot for me then - even though there were plenty of bright spots during that time since I got to eat lunch at home and spend time with my wife. I almost rage quit the game a few times, but the feeling of immersion in a well-realized version of the medieval world made this history buff very happy. There aren't too many games where I develop mental maps anymore, since the worlds are so huge and empty and you never really need to actually do anything but follow the arrow on the HUD... but even now years later, I can still see the major locations and I remember where things are located just like I spent time living there. I LOVE when games really require me to develop my own mental map. I'm looking forward to KCD2. The next Elder Scrolls might or might not get my attention depending on how much I like Baldur's Gate 3.
I'll say this time and time again- this game would have been on a whole other level if the budget was bigger. It's amazing how good the game was given the circumstances.
I put over 600 hours into this game. Back in 2019 when i first got it during my easterbreak i played 6-12 hours a day for the entire week break. Recently a dude told me "600 hours in KCD, I mean sure its a good game but 600 hours really? 200 Sure but 600?" I just replied "I have seen more".
600 hours put into a good game is nothing. If its immersive enough, I'll put well over that, and what game is more immersive than KCD? I put 400 hours into just my first playthrough of The Witcher 3, and KCD has more replayability than The Witcher 3.
The best playthrough i ever had in Kcd was my first hardcore playthrough. Instead of doing the main quest after waking up at the Rattay mill, i did the millers quests and became a wandering theif. Every day i wandered through town casing houses, stores, and people to rob. Then once night fell i broke in and stole everything not nailed down, and snuck out of town to sell it all to the miller. I began wandering the map going from town to town planning heists, and doing thievery related side quests until i was a master at stealth, and so rich i could afford the finest horses and clothes. Everyone was always complimenting Henry of how nice he looked in his silk clothes fit for a nobel prince. Eventually i was pulling off massive heists in Rattay, and using the money to fund my own village project up North. What an amazing game!
Watched the whole thing. Always been semicurious about the game, but now i definitely want to play it. The fact that reading and drinking are skills is fukin hilarious.
I had it on my backlog for a while and don't know why I never touched it. Then I was bored a few weeks ago and wanted to try a more grounded medieval story and booted up the game. OMG what a gem, first three days I put around 40 hours on a weekend without even noticing while I was a little sick with a cold. It was one of the best surprises I had in gaming in recent memory. Can't wait for the sequel where Henry finally continues his journey as a proper man.
2023 review My only complaint is some quest are still glitched. I’ve had some quest bug so bad I had to reload a previous save and lose hours of progress
6:30 you infor on Gathering is wrong, its affacts more than just the gathering range, it affects your horse status and makes easier to level up strengh too.
I think saved in this game should be based on the clock rather than exit saves. Maybe have it save everytime you hear the clock strike hourly or at 6 and 12 . I think that would be a cool way of doing it as exit saves tempt u to abuse it
I found that when lockpicking if you go ahead of the sweetspot it often results in a fail. But if you get slightly behind the sweetspot it doesn't fail you as quickly. So the most efficient way to lockpick is trying to avoid getting ahead of the sweetspot. (Ahead and behind relative to the rotation of the lock)
It is really annoying how so many games are not skill based, and all they do is artificially increase the difficulty. So it doesn't take any skill, just more grind, which is just annoying, and makes players cheat. Why waste time grinding, if it doesn't actually change anything, and you may as well make things a little bit easier for yourself? In skyrim, or minecraft, combat is just spamming lmb, and possibly stopping for a while to use healing items, and continuing. Even Mount&Blade, a game with a good combat system made AI so poorly, that all you do is spam LMB anyway, and if you want to enjoy combat you have to play on multiplayer (and you also have to hope there isn't too many archers, and people using shields, because otherwise it won't be enjoyable anyway). You mentioned in skyrim players most likely just scumsave if they get caught pick pocketing. But you didn't say why. In skyrim there is absolutely no system for that, no skill involved, it is just pure RNG, so no wonder after being caught player just thinks "bullshit" and reloads a save.
Yeah that is a good point with pickpocketing in Skyrim. There is no skill to it so failing a pickpocket attempt is just annoying and seems unfair. Even a simple mini game for pickpocketing would be a total game changer for stealth play throughs
Considering this is their first game what an incredible achievement from the devs. Though the game can feel a little clunky at times and does have a decent amount of issues, the things they got right make you look past them once you've been playing long enough except the lockpicking thats horrible. Im extremely excited to see what projects they have coming!
"There are alot of skills i didnt even know henry had because i must have missed it" this is SUCH a huge thing with KCD. I have 1 save witb 275 hours on it, and my current play through i have 180 hours in it. Last night was the first time ive truly used stealth, and realized how good of a stat it can be. Was doing the mission before going and attacking the cuman/bandit city camp. The last couple of times i just scouted the area, and went back to sir radzig after spotting a bandit. This time however, i decided i wanted to try stealth as i had never given it a go in the game really. I managed to destroy a weapons cache, poison 1 pot of food, and added dollmaker potion to the other pot of food, and took a torch to a few arrow caches. When it came time for the battle, there was maybe 8-10 archers compared to the normal like 20-25 of them in my other playthroughs, there was MUCH less enemies overall due to the poisoning and the rest were weak due to the dollmaker potion debuffs. The fact every single aspect of this mission changed simply because i snuck around the camp (i had level 2 stealth btw compared to being main level 15 with 19 strength) randomly and happened to have a couple items in my inventory is mind boggling to me
Imagine living in a time so much deprived of good games, that if you say that a 2019 game is better than a 2011 game, it becomes a controversial take. Should be normal, yet sadly it isn't, and that tells a very sad story of how (AAA) developers just chase the quick easy bucks, instead of trying to make great games.
I just started playing it, and I had the same thought. And it just further exposes bethesda. I recently played skyrim for the first time and could only do it for 10 hours. It's only considered good because people want an open world sandbox to immerse themselves in, not because its good on any level. With Kingdom Come, I was immediately impressed by the passion the devs had for the game. That is rare in modern gaming
I mean at the time Skyrim was the best RPG that was out back in 2011. But since that was over a decade ago, we would hope some higher quality heavy hitters would come out.
i guess so, but I think bethesda has undeserved respect simply because they provide what a lot of people want which is unlimited content and an open world. it's like quantity over quality. The great RPGs don't get worse over time. It's just that skyrim doesn't have anything 'good' but its a sandbox with lots of content. Are there any memorable stories, characters at all? When I was about to quit playing i looked up what the good guild quests are, and I had a hard time finding anything people actually liked about the game. it was mostly people saying all the quests sucked despite apparently being fans of the game. I don't really get it@@nezziTV
@@nezziTV Still many would consider Skyrim to be a continuation of dumbing down the Elder Scrolls games in comparison to Oblivion and Morrowind. Starfield also is a great example of that - it could have been so much better if Bethesda respected their games and players more.
It truly is an amazing game and exceptional in it's genre, and being a hungarian speaker makes it all the more entertaining. I'm only sad I don't get to play a self-insert which is a huge deal for me in RPGs, but I got over it with how satisfied I am with kingdom come as a whole
i agree with you mentioning no blacksmith skill. would have loved to see that as a mini game just like alchemy, although getting all the "raw" materials would be a big deal for the designer to implement that
Imo it's not even a fair comparison. Skyrim was heavily overhyped even in 2011, most people can't even enjoy it without dozens of mods. KCD is everything every RPG of the last decade wanted to be, but didn't have the balls to pull off. Best RPG I ever played, hands down
the realism in this game is its biggest draw & they perfected it. one entire mission is a court hearing where you’re questioning the defendant & whether you took the time to investigate hours of evidence beforehand or not implies the devs created a scenario that the man’s fate literally rests in the hands of whether the player is a lazy shit or not. just brilliant
One of my absolute favourites, and yeah the best part is being so crap at everything, then at some point hours in you're like... oh wow I'm doing this, I'm getting good, and it feels very rewarding. Great storyline too, Henry is perfectly slotted in to a fairly accurate historical episode.
So excited for KCD2! As you said, I love that Henry is a relatable young trouble maker who goes through a difficult coming-of age-story, and isn't just some chosen hero. While the game is dialogue heavy, unlike many RPGs there are tons of well-written side characters, and so many quests have interesting solutions outside of combat.
I remember the first time I played this, I wanted to test out theevhaniv where the devs said they put a lot of work to make sure all NPCs have a daily routine. I picked a random person, and I followed them. Watched them go to town to buy something, go home and hang out, then go to the local pub for some dice, and then go home and sleep. As much as this doesn't want sound like a big deal, I think that's when I truly be able a full fan of the game and knew I was going to play all the way through. Not to mention the countless other reasons, thankfully mentioned in the video.
Started playing this game yesterday and holy crap what a game...what a story!!! I keep hearing ppl say that they hate the fighting and while I understand I also completely disagree...I think the fighting is so great and I can tell that when I level up it's actually going to Matter...I'm so impressed by this game that I'm at work right now and instead of doing my job I'm watching videos about the game ...if you haven't play this game then go try it because it's absolutely amazing...
Things we want in KCD 2: 1. Weapon and Armor forging 2. Cancel fast travel to stop at a certain point on the journey 3. Portable Sleeping bag (limited use but repairable maybe) 4. Kuttenbourg DLC (Play as Henry badass Dad before he gives up fighting 5. Literally just a second game at all would be amazing!
2. Only play Hardcore so no fast travel, forced to learn the roads as we do in real life, I have bucefalus and race horse perk, military horseshoes, he's very fast. When I need fast travel use drinking system to blackout with safe passage perk 3. I don't need to sleep, can use bath houses, cockerel potion, Lazarus Potion, Insomniac perk, buy stays at lodges beds with infinite trunk 6. Add DLSS 3.5 and FSR3 so we can play at 4k or 1440p.
Okay, so at least it's confirmed: 1. There is a KCD 2 coming Feb 2025 2. There will be a smithing skill, with a smithing minigame kinda like alchemy or grindstone 3. It's set in Kuttenburg and even more fun things, like early firearms and crossbows!
Thank you for giving exposure to this game i really enjoyed it such an underrated game. Only thing I could add is you say Bohemia was part of the Roman Empire when it was part of the Holy Roman Empire very very different political entities but that it the history buff in new 😅
You might think there's too much dialogue but you gain Speech levels talking more so it's not a waste. Also the dialogue is meant to help you decide emotionally what to do. How you want to mark your history in and roleplay. If you want to be worst than the Cuman and ransack and murder every village you can do that.
I would love a grand schale rpg with realistic mechanics where you could eventually work yourself up to become either a feudal lord, merchant, diplomat or something like a spie. Something like court intrigue and diplomacy has a lot of potential in gaming.
KCD is one of my all-time favorites, but I don't see any point in comparing it to Skyrim - they're too different. It feels like saying a Sports car is better than a Truck - well sure if your goal is fun driving, but if you goal is hauling lumber - that sports car sucks. Should everyone who like Skyrim give KDC a try? Probably. Should the people who were disappointed with Skyrim give it a try? Almost certainly - it really is that good. Just don't expect it to be a replacement for Skyrim or Elden Ring or any other game. Sure, you can compare graphics quality - KDC wins (until you mod Skyrim). But combat is way too different and designed for different purposes. KDC is a mostly linear story; in Skyrim, you can ignore the story and still have fun. It's more refined than Skyrim, but it hasn't nearly the scope of world size, number of quests, or - well, most anything. Skyrim's Lore is fantasy, whereas KDC is based mainly on reality. The KDC story is the game, whereas in Skyrim, the story is more of a prompt to explore the game - also, the default ending is stupid beyond belief, and I can't see why anyone would bother with it more than once - I didn't even do that much. Still, I get a lot of enjoyment from Skyrim because I can ignore or change what I don't like.
This is an absolutely fantastic game, I've played through it 3 or 4 times and will soon do it again. One of my all-time favorites. However, if I would change anything for the sequel it would be the combat system. I appreciate what they tried to do with the HEMA adaptation and the combos, but it's a very frustrating experience for no good reason. I know others may disagree but I struggled immensely to perform the combos, even after several playthroughs. Unfortunately, the counter-attack technique (learned from Bernard in Rattay) makes combos redundant due to it's ridiculous effectiveness. But even putting that aside, the camera-lock prevents you from controlling both the distance to your opponent and the direction that you are looking, which makes combat feel like an arcade game. Both are of course crucial factors in all forms of close combat and it's such a shame that they chose an aiming system that requires camera-lock at all. I really hope they keep their devotion to realism with by sticking with HEMA but that they also update this system, preferably with a 3rd person version. Except for the combat system, this game absolutely rocks.
As much as I love the game, the combat drove me absolutely nuts. It's mostly fine when you're facing one opponent, but useless against multiples, and you're in for a bad time with three or more because you can't quickly switch your attention between them. One mechanic I don't understand is how a strike from an enemy in your back will force Henry to turn around and face them, which seems logical at first, but is infuriating when you're trying to flee from a mob of people.
@@adl.4611 I totally agree. Obviously, they wanted it to be hard but it shouldn't be hard for contrived reasons. I'm sure they can think of something better for the next one.
The world in KCD is masterfully crafted. Its a beautiful world to explore and unlike most games like this it actually rewards exploration in the way of secrets in the form of easter eggs and loot. If you know where to go you can literally get the best weapon in the game once you get to the open world map but because Henry sucks at everything it won't really do you any good lol. I love this game, its one of the most unique games i have ever played. The story is gripping and never feels like a chore, and again, i can't stress this enough about how beautiful the world is. It makes you spend hours just walking around exploring. As for the save system ..... the complaints are just from morons who forget to buy the saviour schnapps or actually remember to save the game, that's not the game at fault, its theirs. Also there are plenty of saviour schnapps to buy and if you run out of them its again, not the game at fault its the player for being shit at the game.
I agree with you in everything except the schnapps. As much as I love the game, don't know if I would be able to finish it if I didn't install a mod to save whenever. The thing is, I hate repetition and to waste time. To wake one day, do a bunch of stuff, and then die either because either I don't have schnapps, or because something caught me by surprise, so I have to redo everything again, sometimes several times, it is quite frustrating for me. I don't want to redo what I already did. For the record, I do like repetition of the challenging parts, if I'm dealing with a tough camp and keep failing, sure, will enjoy new tries. But let me do them from exactly when I'm about to start, not from where I have to do a lot of easy stuff before that because I'm struggling with the schnapps. I get what they are trying to do with the saves, to make dying feel more significant and upsetting, but another consequence for me is to often make the game feel more boring every time I have to repeat the more monotone parts. Also, luckily I played it when it seems most bug were fixed, but the game was infamous at lunch for the amount of bugs, including the game crashing or freezing (the ones I've found several times). Losing a bunch of progress for something that happen in the game is usually at least annoying, losing a bunch of progress because the game crashed will become infuriating really fast, and that will happen a lot more often if your saves are so limited.
I just bought this including all add ons for 15€ during steam summer sale and I think those are my best invested 15€ ever. Love that game so much and we soon get a sequel. ❤
Probably the most under appreciated game I've ever seen. Warhorse has completely replaced Bethesda for me. The level ACTUAL immersion is unprecedented. Fallout 3 and Skyrim were decent for the time but Starfield feels ancient compared to KCD and it's newer...
I think alchemy is one of the best systems just because how immersive it is. You are picking stuff up, mixing, pouring, just like you would in real life. I hope we see even more of this in the next game. The save system is also brilliant. Elder Scrolls haven't understood this at all and how important it is for immersion.
I bought it today on steam, 75% off, just 9.99 and got every addition for it as well so for anyone wanting it, now is the chance. Haven't played it yet but after seeing this video I kust had to get it. I'm excited to start a new adventure, thank you for this recommendation
@@dagerry Perhaps it's because I'm more of an old school gamer, but I absolutely love the game. It's gorgeous, the quests are good, characters are awesome and the immersion is a 10 for me. For me personally, it is a *real* RPG with incredible gameplay and thanks to your comment I'm going to play it again today
@@dagerry Will do for sure! I'm in love with the combat system personally and the world itself is really realistic too. When I play I truly feel like I am my version of Henry, playing the role of an established character yet my own, and damn you reminded me of Gothic! may have to check that one out again sometime for the nostalgia. I've missed these types of games for a long time, but then again, it's perhaps due to coming from a time where games relied more on personal skill and growing with your character as opposed to just seeing numbers go up and suddenly being able to one-shot something difficult because you ran a few errands for NPCs. It makes it all the more immersive to me to doubt my own skill when I consider entering a fight, it adds weight to my choices etc.. Absolute gem of a game.
KCD was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. It's rough at the beginning on hardcore but that makes it all the better. The world is a piece of art, probably the strongest aspect of the game. The gameplay is great fun. Thieving is very immersive and rewarding, the combat feels weird at the beginning but is sophisticated, the mini games are great and even the hunting is fun. I could just keep on praising the game for forever but here's what is best about the game: it's old school. That's also the reason why I didn't go down too well with the younger audience. It throws you into this huge world, it is not holding your hands. It expects you to find ways and means to get money. You are supposed to go the training ground and sparring with the captain of the watch to get better. With hardcore you will get lost A LOT and you have to navigate using your brain and finding things without quest markers is just the better fun.
Love this game. Really not a fan of Skyrim at all (the mods are amazing though). Glad others feel this way about KCD. Really hoping for a second game soon.
Probably my favourite game of the last ten years. It's the game that actually got me interested in learning about my own country's medieval history, and that opened up a whole new interesting world to me. I think if there's one thing that drew me out of the illusion a little bit, it was the range of accents from the voice actors - mainly British and American. It was a little off-putting, but I didn't let it ruin what is an excellent game. I do hope that Warhorse give us an update on KCD2 soon.
Yeah I definitely agree with what you said about the accents. I’m honestly confused as to why there are almost literally, if any at all, Czech voice actors. I’m pretty sure their studio is in Prague so it seems like they would’ve been easy to get but apparently not
There's a Czech voice option now, planning to play through with it on my next playthrough. For the next game I'd love the English version to be voiced by actors with Czech accents for the immersion. I'm sure native Hungarian speakers have some thoughts about the voice acting too haha.
I just returned to this game a month ago and remember how much I both loved and hated this game. Combat is so hard but so good that it really makes you think before attacking those three bandits or single, heavily armed knight. Great job not spoiling anything for others.
i bought the game for about 4 dollars a couple days ago (the royal edition, so i have the dlc) and im absolutely loving it, i've only had it for a couple of days, but i already have 50 hours on it, and i got pretty used to the combat pretty easily, and felt like the lockpick was easy too, so i guess if you get the hang of it, its not going to be that difficult, the more difficult part about the combat i'd have to say is that fighting multiple opponents is gonna be your hardest thing to overcome, not just cuz you're outnumbered, but i feel like they could have done it better, cuz alot of the time when another enemy runs behind me, my camera starts freaking out, so its hard to see where i am at and where the enemies are at
I absolutely loved playing Kingdom Come. But just like you, i first quit and came back like a month later, starting all over again. Now it`s one of my favourite Games of all Time. And i played Skyrim and the Darksouls series, for example... I appreciate your Video and the promotion you do for this beautiful Masterpiece.
I got it around launch had some bugs and finally got around to playing it about a year after that when they fixed a ton of the bugs and loved it to no end.
Let’s be honest, this game was amazing… everything is basically interact-able. Alchemy was genuinely fun to level up. The map looks good, the combat is initially bs but almost amazing once you level up a lot. Multi-enemy engagements suck balls, but 1v1 duels are godlike. The best part of the game is once you get so good at 1v1 combat… you crack open tin cans while wearing nothing and using a wooden stick.
At some point you realise there is so many problems in this game combat - like locking on enemy far from you in combat against multiple enemies, problem with blocking making duels just... let's just say I won the Ratay competition by pressing just Q... and the few game "crashing" bugs are also a little too anoying, since there is no autosave just to save your progress when the game get's stuck in dialog or anything leading to loose even hours of gameplay... overall it's fun game with few mechanics which make it a little too frustrating.
The alchemy in this game is like a mission statement for the company as a whole. So cool, so immersive, hard to get the hang off at first but fun once you do, bound to turn casuals off. 2,. supposedly, is going to have a similar system with smithing. Heat the bellows, temper the blade, hammer it out, quench, etc.
I want to make it known I love Skyrim, I legitimately have over 2,000 hours on it lol. Kingdom Come also had the advantage to look back at all the successful rpgs over the past decade and fine tune the features of their game. Don’t take the title to serious ❤
its the overwehlming ness that atracted it to me to
my problem is i dont wanna fail quest and keep going

A thing i like is how realisticly the game portrays the middle ages. Its not the filthy wasteland backwater that you often see in pop culture. Instead you have a vibrant society with culture and art and it's amazing. Especially how the castle interiors are so colorful.
That was how the medieval ages were though. Unless you were royalty you were living a mud filled life with little to no food and money.

I leveled up my lock pick for stealing and stole books to become smarter 😂
WTF that's a thing in this game? Can you actually beat the game playing this way?
My favorite Skyrim mod is uninstalling the game and playing Morrowind instead

Im pretty sure the difference is that their team could just go outside and wander along some woodland trail or into a castle for inspiration.
I agree. I haven't seen any game do it better, especially at night.

I only played Red Dead Redemption 2’s storyline once and that’s simply because I exhausted the content the game had to offer and the story it had to tell in one sitting. The only gripe I had with KC:D was the ending. It felt like I did a whole lot for very little.
@@0neiricNomad I've played KCD 19 or 12 times now and each game had a different focus. There's lots of replayability here
@@0neiricNomad The ending is really bad despite what diehard fans try to claim. like 20-30 hours of playtime and none of the goals you had from the beginning were accomplished. They should have atleast had Istvan or whatever drop the sword or something.
KCD was the RPG I'd always wanted, that I never realised I wanted.
That’s one of the best comments about this game I ever heard
i'm not a big fan of rpg but i decided to give it a try, I finished the game and I'm still waiting for its sequel. I never expected its ending lol I was waiting for the next objective when the game suddenly ended in a cliffhanger
I had a hole in my heart from not finding a game like Morrowind ever since I played that as a teenager. KCD filled that hole. Easily the greatest game ever made, IMO
It’s 100% better than Skyrim, the quest design, the exploration, world are all infinitely better.
I say it every day I live for its next sequel

The work they've done for a realistic RPG based on their country's history does make me wonder they would perform if allowed to go all out with a fantasy setting with some touch of grounded verisimilitude.
Would be dope!
It would probably be total crap, just like any other fantasy game, including Skyrim. If you have a good story and a good concept for a game, you don't need witches, dragons, and all that stupid nonsense. It's just for people who don't know how to create an interesting narrative, so they have to supplement it to make it more bearable.
No ffs I’m so sick of fantasy settings. This game was the biggest breath of fresh air
They can reuse the bellows too, plus it’s be fun to put different handles on different blades, heating up and shaping the blades,
Pretty much confirmed for KCD2 🎉
The saviour schnapps system is so well balanced it's amazing. They are hard enough to come by that you use them sparingly, but easy enough as to not make gameplay frustrating

This game is much better than Skyrim imo, and it's not really close. It's so unique and immersive.
Yeah it is far better. I have a thousand hours in Skyrim and can confidently say KCD is better.
Yes 150 hours here. I just read someone had spent over 3000 hours. Incredible.
600 hours put into a good game is nothing. If its immersive enough, I'll put well over that, and what game is more immersive than KCD? I put 400 hours into just my first playthrough of The Witcher 3, and KCD has more replayability than The Witcher 3.
@@dagerry I see we have another gentleman of culture here who recognizes Morrowind's superiority over Skyrim. Well done, sir
I just learned the Reading skill and was blown away at how much effort they put into it.
as mchu wrok as i put itno this sentecne
Watched the whole thing. Always been semicurious about the game, but now i definitely want to play it. The fact that reading and drinking are skills is fukin hilarious.
The menu style and music took me straight back to Oblivion and I relished every second of it.

My only complaint is some quest are still glitched.
I’ve had some quest bug so bad I had to reload a previous save and lose hours of progress

Kingdom Come has a lot of the fun RPG features present in Oblivion that we were all mad at Bethesda for removing and dumbing down in Skyrim.
Damn, never heard of this game, but it's on my list now!! I miss games like this, they don't make them like they used to! (Oh crap I'm old)
If you’re that type of person like me. That is big on immersion, love medieval history, have patience. This is the best game you will ever play.
Bro it's 3 bucks on the MS Store and I think on Steam as well.
what games were like this prior?
I think saved in this game should be based on the clock rather than exit saves. Maybe have it save everytime you hear the clock strike hourly or at 6 and 12 . I think that would be a cool way of doing it as exit saves tempt u to abuse it
I found that when lockpicking if you go ahead of the sweetspot it often results in a fail.
But if you get slightly behind the sweetspot it doesn't fail you as quickly.
So the most efficient way to lockpick is trying to avoid getting ahead of the sweetspot.
(Ahead and behind relative to the rotation of the lock)
As someone who lives in the area where the game takes place. I love how beautiful the nature in this game is, and also the historical accuracy.
Yeah Kingdom Come truly is just on a different level from most games I’ve ever played
I mean at the time Skyrim was the best RPG that was out back in 2011. But since that was over a decade ago, we would hope some higher quality heavy hitters would come out.
@@nezziTVexactly 💯
i guess so, but I think bethesda has undeserved respect simply because they provide what a lot of people want which is unlimited content and an open world. it's like quantity over quality.
Kingdom come is in vanilla what I try to turn my skyrim into with 1000 mods
i agree with you mentioning no blacksmith skill. would have loved to see that as a mini game just like alchemy, although getting all the "raw" materials would be a big deal for the designer to implement that
Imo it's not even a fair comparison.
Been a fan of this game since it came out. And I'm very happy to see all the attention its been getting on youtube lately. Excellent job!

Ah yes, the Holy Roman Empire... which was neither holy, nor roman and not an empire.

Unlike skyrim, KCD is an actual RPG
Sssh, don't let the Skybabies know that
I think alchemy is one of the best systems just because how immersive it is. You are picking stuff up, mixing, pouring, just like you would in real life. I hope we see even more of this in the next game. The save system is also brilliant. Elder Scrolls haven't understood this at all and how important it is for immersion.
But you don't have to use it, just put the herbs by order without boiling to have the same result.
I bought it today on steam, 75% off, just 9.99 and got every addition for it as well so for anyone wanting it, now is the chance. Haven't played it yet but after seeing this video I kust had to get it.

Also, the fact you referred to opening up the menu in KCD as opening a book and flipping back and forth between the pages is beyond perfect.
*idk if its BETTER than Skyrim.....but its certainly a unique experience in a much smaller and personal world.*
@@augiestevens9833Oooh, thanks for the tip - I didn't know it had a Czech voice option. Will definitely be using that next time I play it!
@@bujin1977 For sure! I'm in the process of trying to learn Czech so it was a nice surprise to find as an option when I re-installed it recently.

Great video! I absolutely loved this game, beautiful, deep and extremely rewarding. Thank you.
