    Just a point about all that religious talk. I think it is because of the translation from Czech language. In Czech (and Slovak as well), it was (is) normal . Even my gradnparrents talked like that. Greetings like "sbohem" in english "goodbye" litteraly "with god", "go with god" - still used. "Pomáhej pán bůh" = "god (should) help you" if you meet someone working, or doing something. Answer "pán bůh vyslyš" = " hope god hears you". "Zdařbůh" = "may god help us (with this work)" - stil used esp. by miners. "Pochválen buď Ježíš Kristus" = "Be blessed Jesus Christ" or as you say "Jesus Christ be praised" answer "Navěky ámen" = "so be it forever" - used when you enter someones house or kind of more formal greeting. Maybe in English (or other languages) sounds a bit odd, and overreligious, but it is less religious than it appears. You can hear that even today (in our atheistic country), in medieval Bohemia perfecly normal.

    Couple corrections on the historical accuracy section. Pointy shoes are in game. They are called "fashionable slippers" in the English version. They show exactly as described while in inventory. That said, the model doesn't seem to be the same while it's actually being worn. This could possibly be an engine limitation, or just some unfinished artwork waiting to be done.
    Second, this is about 25 years before the Hussite wars, which was when the Czechs were using what amounted to hand cannons for warfare. I don't think that, at this point in time, they had access to them. Late in the game you do hear reference to black powder, and their lack of it. While the French were relatively early adopters, using hand cannons in the mid 1300s, the German states clearly lagged behind. The earliest known German hand cannon was from around 1400. The issue was definitely not metallurgical, but rather a general lack of saltpeter. So, the game gets this pretty right. They knew what it was, but it was not a generally accessible weapon.
    The lack of crossbows is odd, especially since they're mentioned by Henry's father right at the start of the game. And yes, they would be all over the place. Perhaps something they'll add in, as well as a more comprehensive polearm implementation.

    • @aosabi

      They do plan on adding in crossbows, more polearms and lances.

      @nyanbinaryDC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Avatrass The first mention of cannon in Bohemia that I was able to find is from 1399, so they probably weren't too widespread in 1403. Crossbows were to be included in the game, but due to some problems with physics Warhorse decided to drop them in the final build.

    • @Nerazmus
      @Nerazmus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Crossbows were actually for some reason, not that popular in Bohemia. But there should be at least some. Hunting crossbows most definitely were a thing.
      I think that lack of firearms is also a gameplay decision ... imagine Henry getting his hands on a hand-cannon. If he, by some miracle, wouldn't kill himself with it, he would be safe to take 1v1 on anyone with small prep time to load.

    My grandmother always fixed our clothes. She would knit socks and mittens from scratch. She was extremely old-school about it, but they clothes looked very good. If I got a hole i my sock, she would fix it, and the hole would be _invisible_ yet it could sometimes be fealt. I have no doubt that the medieval people would do similar, and better, as it was a matter of survival - and most farmers couldn't just go to the shop to get it fixed. With a big family, it was a matter of _pride_ to be able to mend your husband and kid's clothing.

    Hi Metatron, I really love your channel and was glad to talk with you at WH studio in person (it's a pity that video was bit shaky...). Thank you for your time and diligent analysis, for sure we will try to push a bit more people to be aware about mistakes they make and we will improve, what's possible. Although I mostly agree with many of your remarks, the biggest issue was not lack of knowledge, but...technology. Guys invented clothing system that caused allll the problems with layers, with overlapping the materials, its length and thickness, size... Also this rusty/wretched clothes are a side effect of clothing system errors. Therefore we could not have done long sleeves, tight and small waistline, proper long dresses, proper gambesons and whole plate armour - because of the existing skeleton and limited movements. :( I disagree however about pointy shoes - these were popular in Bohemia in middle and end of 15th century and Prague I suppose. Definitely not in Rattay - a small town in Czech lands... Anyway, I must also add, that although I adore many of my colleagues and their technical/artistic skills, with character artists it was the worst and toughest fight I have ever had and I have lost.
    Historical Consultant is invited to inspire, advise and navigate everyone, but what +100 people will apply (and would be able) to this organic and very dynamic thing as game is, is still their good will put into the hands of a fortune. Thankfully many of my colleagues here put all their effort and heart to do the right choice. But sometimes they just did not. Character artists way much too often forced their personal interpretation (while omitting the history) into the game, not following the advice or used many old assets, that were wrongly made in the past (like in 2011, when in the studio were 12 people). So, I was nearly heartbroken when I saw some main character's clothing and at one moment I really wanted to give up ;). I understood finally, why historians quit their jobs, while helping in movies or TV. Then, after some struggling about many matters and seeing aaaaaalllllll the inconsistencies, mistakes, misinterpretations and even very personal fantasy input in KCD, I accepted that in the end it is a Game, a project made by collective. It is a smart game, which with budget for indie game, support of many loving people, shows, what could have been done at each state of development with best intention for each type of player.
    Hope that despite all, what does not look as it should, you will still enjoy the game until the end! Kindest regards!

    • @Hadokenlady
      @Hadokenlady 6 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      Dear Filip, well we strongly focused on it and did what we could to keep many elements of the KCD world in a way to respect history facts and theories. But as I mentioned before, there are certain difficulties and compromises we had to do, in order to keep the game interesting. I can reassure you, that everyday many people in Warhorse studios learn from the mistakes and try to make their work better in the future. And we all see now how much this historical aspect actually enriched us, rather than limit. So I truly believe the historical accuracy is one of our main goals and it defines the whole project.

      Joanna DeKoele Thank you for this comment it was really eye opening. And I’ve been hyped about this game for a few years now. I bought it at full price as soon as I heard it came out(which is extremely rare for me) and encouraged many of my friends to buy it too after I made sure it lived up to the the expectations I had for it. And my expectations were met and surpassed within the first hour of gameplay! I was hooked on it and didn’t touch any other game until I had beaten it even with said friends trying to shame me into playing multiplayer games with them. I played 50 hours of it within four or five days and thats with me working a full time job. Just an amazing game. And Henry, even with a cliche “your parents are killed now go get revenge” story made me feel like, “yeah, I could have been a guy like this and made many of the same mistakes”. He’s flawed, he doesn’t always know the right thing to say or do, but he keeps pushing himself forward to achieve his goals. There are a few things I didn’t especially like, but they were all personal preference and stuff I could mod to make my experience more user friendly(I only modded the game after finishing it). And even with all of the bugs I ran into they were instantly forgiven unlike any other game I’ve ever played. Simply because as soon as it hooked me I knew this was a project of passion and love.
      Thank you for your work in keeping this game historically accurate and not quitting even in the face of some obnoxious artists. You did a great job and I plan on buying any DLC and the next game in the series on day one.

    Lots of armor complains are based on computation limitation and playability. Stains and rust are to show the player quality, it is just so you can evaluate some stats just by looking. Eye holes are big, so that the same helmet will fit on all heads. The armour is bulky because of the layering system. You need to be sure that the deeper layers do not grafically overlap with upper layers. In reality the deeper layer will be compressed, but calculate compression in real time on every character is not possible with current HW. I would rephrase the question from "is it historically accurate?" to "is it historically accurate with regard of current computational power?". I will disregard the examples above, but if the shoes are wrong, or the spikes under full plate are present, I give you that.

    Depending on the answer on religious question - you knew is stranger your enemy or friend.

      In the game itself, I have no trouble at all believing people spoke to each other that way at the time. This was a big deal.
      All of this happened right before the reformation REALLY kicked off. Jan Hus was mentioned many times. Martin Luther would not be far behind. The thirty years war after that. All this stuff is just bubbling away under the surface.
      Metatron strikes me as an atheist/irreligious guy who gets his back up whenever god/jesus/deity of your choice is mentioned. I've got a few friends like that, its fine.

      No, it isn't. The religious ferment, that culminated in the Hussite revolution was already present in Czechia in late 1300s under king Václav IV. There was a fierce long-lasting struggle over investiture (in which Václav ham-fistedly intervened).
      Even more importantly, Jan Hus publicly introduced the thoughts of John Wycliffe (and lollards in general) in 1398 in Prague. He was ordained in 1400, and by 1402 he was appointed the administrator of the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague and was already publicly famous for his sermons, that were very critical of the contemporary church, indulgences and general vices.
      FYI, the game takes place in summer 1403.

    Kunesh (the peasant who beat you) seems to have been a war veteran whose wife left him and he turned into an alcoholic. Just a couple events that point to that. One is simply how high his brawling skill is (as you noticed). Another is when Skalitz is under attack, you can see him form up with a pole arm and successfully help defend the gate for a while. The last is that (if you kill him and loot his corpse) you find that he's wearing a worn out, foot soldier's waffenrock.

    Regarding the over religious npcs in the game, its a reality of Eastern Europe. Even today in Ukrainian villages there is no other greetings as : "Praise to Jesus Christ" - "Praise forever" (It switches to "Christ is being born - So we praise him"(On Christmas) "Christ has been ressurected - Resurected indeed" (On Easter), "Christ is being baptised - In Jordan River" (On Jordan). And when someone is doing some kind of work is it a usual thing to greet him as : "God brings you!". When someone sneezes : "Let the god gives you health - Thanks, let the god give you health as well". Today Czech Republic is the most ateistic country in Europe, but the events take part before the changes in christian doctrine practized in Bohemia. So it IS very REALISTIC.

But if I know I can die in that world I play the game the way I would if I were Henry’s shoes. I think twice before approaching someone. If I see a fallen tree on the road I turn around. I feel nervous during a fight, my adrenaline shoots up and it feels so satisfying to win a fight. How can you say people are overreligious in 1403 BOHEMIA? That time period was immensely religious, to the point that religion was tied to culture more than personal belief. People would just mention god in greetings without thinking about it, the same way we say "god bless you" even today in response to someone sneezing, or how "goodbye" is short for "god be with you".
    Shocked you got such a simple detail so terribly wrong despite being a historian.
    Also, medieval art is not always 100% accurate, especially with things like bodily proportions. So using them as a basis for criticizing things such as waist size of armour seems like quite a bad idea.
    Edit: And as Ondřej mentions, the game literally takes place during the time of the Hussite wars (about 10 years before), which was a religiously-based set of conflicts. There's nothing remotely out of the ordinary about people constantly using religious phrases.

      This is true. Even more so considering it's the time of the Hussite wars. The Hussite period is one of the most important eras of Czech history because it was a huge revolt agaist the Catholic church and their greed. At the time religion was literally number 1 topic and all that's happening in the game is happening because the Czechs decided to rise agaist the church in the name of God. Just to give an example, one of the most famous songs from czech history is called "Ktož sú Boží bojovníci" (or Ye who are the warriors of God) and it was basically an anthem of the Hussites.

Here in Croatia, common greetings till mid 20th ct (especially in rural areas), literally translated were: praise to Jesus and Mary, praise Jesus, glory to Jesus Christ, May God help you, God bless you, God be with you, and then unreligious: good [part of a day], be healthy, my bow. It's still in English also. Goodbye is literally just the contraction of "God be with ye" into "Godbwye," ultimately becoming Goodbye. Here in the rural Southeast of the United States I hear, "Bless you" and "Bless your heart" all the time in normal talk. Also common when people talk about someone who has died to end the sentence with, "God rest their soul." I imagine rural medieval Europe would be very similar in the habits of speech of the people.

    Hey Raf :), I just saw an Interview with people from Warhorse and they spoke about the horse. They made a specific behavior for the horses in the game, that they automatically avoid objects in their way (horse riding, lone horse wandering). Buuuuut, they had a problem, which they clarified a loong time. This behavior caused the horses avoided even stones on the roads (they were zig-zaging on a standard road). Therefore they removed the behavior, because they had no time to fix this. I believe they will fix this eventually :) I would give you the interview, but it's in Czech. The "overly religious" bit is interesting. I absolutely get where you're coming from, but, to be fair, I think this is mostly the fault of translation from Czech being too literal at times. We're one of the most atheist countries, but our everyday language is still riddled with "religious" references. Nobody really notices that and if you asked people why are they so religious, they wouldn't likely even understand what you're talking about, because they're just saying it on a subconscious level, not as part of any religious beliefs. And obviously the reason why we're still using these in everyday language despite being a very atheistic country is obviously because it's something that has been in our language for a long time. Hearing someone greet you with "Praise the Lord!" in English does come off very differently than hearing a Czech equivalent of the same greeting - if someone greets you with "Pozdravpánbůh" (Praise the Lord, more or less), you won't think he's religious - you'd think he's a bit too old fashioned, and if it's a fairly young person, that he's trying to tell you he's aiming for a very casual style of talk. So it's possible the devs didn't even realize this difference between how it comes off in English and in Czech.
    It's actually one of the few examples where I would consider the English version of the game being worse off than the Czech one (as I find the Czech subtitles - there's no Czech dub currently) being quite bad and very inappropriate for the game (as the characters are basically talking current everyday Czech, often even in a strong slang, and more often than not also using ridiculously strong language, which comes off as not just needless, but also not fitting the portrayed era at all - not that people were not using strong language at the time, they absolutely were, but they were not using 21st century swear words and language).

    You should line up the shot before drawing the bow and by the end of the draw the bow lines up then starts swaying. It should be one full motion, release the arrow right when you finish the bows full draw. One fluid motion. Line up, draw, release.
    Hope that helps everyone trying to figure out the bow mechanics. It works, it just isn’t easy to learn.

      I understand that, but I'd use the Japanese as an example of my argument.
      Firearms were introduced to the Japanese in 1542 and by 1575 they were adopted by almost (if not all) Japanese clans and were massively used in one of the battles which shaped the future of Japan, the battle of Nagashino.
      My point here is that I understand that not every single lord could afford Firearms for his troops, but there being none at all seems more like a balancing decision than historical accuracy.
      As for there being none in the entire region, that is unlikely as well, since travelling merchants would make a ton of money by selling it to lords who were located far from any manufacturers.

    • @alessandronavone6731
      @alessandronavone6731 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Ralph, it's not a good comparison. By 1542, firearms had gotten much better, so it was obvious to the japanese that they should adopt them and quickly. In 1403, and not to mention 1346, they were just extravagant objects which had a horrible fire rate, very poor penetration, low accuracy, and broke so often they possibly were more of a threat for the user than the enemy. Have a look at handguns; awful tools.
      For a general idea, tercios were adopted in 1530 by Spain, and they still had only 20% arquebusiers at best, the rest being mostly pikemen. Because firearms were still pretty awful.

In game people were beaten and yelled at for talking bad about politics. Also around this time it was a holy thing to kill non believers, and people became saints for it. For the time they use religion a realistic amount.

    I think you're suffering from some form of amnesia. You love how it takes time and effort to become an effective swordsman but proclaim archery broken upon first glance.
    I'm a bit of an amateur archery enthusiast, and I'll tell you, the son of a blacksmith picks up a bow one day out of nowhere with little to no instruction, yes, he'll miss a target 3 meters away the first 20 times. Most of those attempts, he'll simply drop the arrow to the ground at his feet or fail to seat the string in the nock at all.
    I too had all kinds of trouble gitting gud at archery, but now I can win the expert Archery competition in Rattay 8/10 (It would be 9/10, but there's always that one dude who never takes a shot and forces you to forfeit by walking away) times and generally don't miss game. The key is to loose the moment you've reached full draw. You're always going to be on-target from where you began if you draw and loose in one motion. If you hold too long, you'll begin to sway and you'll miss.

    A lot of your comments sound like: "I've seen it like that in a historical source, so in order to be historically accurate everything has to look exactly like the source".
    You said it yourself: 100% historical accuracy is utopic, so even more so, there is A LOT that we don't know aside from the sources (I believe you know that most of them are rarely more than a very individual and momentary representation of the authors' or the employers' view on the world at that time) and you shouldn't generalize by using only sources to support your criticism only to make a point because it is unfortunately quite harmful to the perception of "accuracy". Remember, actual accurate critical thinking is rare these days, people gladly believe what you say when you sound "accurate" enough because they're too lazy and arrogant to make an effort themselves and gladly take other peoples' work over doing it themselves. Especially when it's free...
    I'm just taking the very first few things to make my point:
    - Only because underwear is not shown in graphic sources, doesn't mean it was never shown. When you look at a graphic representation of our time, underwear is not the most prominent factor in fashion, yet A LOT of people walk around in what appears to be underwear. Why would it have been any different, only 500 years ago? Only because the artists might have been prudes or maybe forbidden to show underwear by their prude employers, doesn't mean that he people have been just as prude.
    - Why exactly are coifs meant to be laced and not loose? Because they have two laces? Our jackets have zippers and we wear them unzipped quite often. It's a matter of laziness and/or comfort, not rule and/or "completion".
    - Laced on sleeves did exist, that's a fact. So arguing about the quality of what we see OCCASIONALLY on characters is useless because you don't know what the reason for both the large gap and the large lace is: only because master-tailors did it better, doesn't mean everyone wore perfectly sewn on laces. Maybe the bought the dress, could only afford that one (which isn't uncommon) and altered it to their needs, like wearing it short sleeved in summer and long sleeved in winter and the lack of skill made the manufaturer of what we see use the lace at hand which was probably some working piece of string and not thread.
    I could go on, but I won't since my points are the following and I think you already get them:
    - Only because we don't have sources or evidence of something having happened or not, doesn't mean we can make a rule out of it and claim it has or has never happened exactly like it. Practical reenactment and archaeology has shown over and over that practicality was dominant, not accuracy and has proven many times over that many things we believed to be true, in fact might have been just too obstructive to have been done that way.
    - The sources we have are highly doubtable because we know that most of them have been commissioned work and therefore prone to individualism, not generalism.
    - Critical thinking, especially historically and scientifically, should not be supported by sources but directed towards them: take what you have and try and try it over and over again until you KNOW that it works or not and not just believe it does or doesn't supported by that one or some sources. "Truth is not defined by a majority vote" (although philosophically even that is debatable ^^).
    The game never claimed to be 100% historically accurate.
    It's good it is not because that would make the game totally lame and incomprehensible (do you know any Bohemian?).
    It is by far the best and most accurate depiction of the medieval era in gaming we have so far.
    The information it provides should indeed not be used as a historical source but can indeed be used as a very good starting point for in-depth research with very promising results.
    Therefore:
    Your criticism is justified and might be helpful, concerning scientific and maybe even historical accuracy.
    Unfortunately your approach is just as inaccurate as what you're criticizing. In fact, you're criticizing your own way of research... ^^
    Now, I hope I did not insult you or your work. I don't know it any better (because we can't really). I was merely trying to point out flaws I saw, just like you did, while trying not to judge any of it.
    Just like you do, I highly respect and appreciate your and other peoples' work and dedication in that area and only want to contribute to the bigger picture.
    Kepp up the good work, I enjoy it a lot!

    Sorry Metatron, but about those "over religious people" as you called them, you have no idea what you are talking about. Go to countryside in countries like Czech Republic, Slovakia or Poland (and Im sure this apply also to many others countries in Europe) and you will see that a lot of people there are still very (and I mean VERY) religious and talk like that. Im from Poland myself. When Im in countryside people are always greeting by saying "Niech bedzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus", "Na wieki wiekow". Whitch means something like "Let Jesus Christ be praised", "For all eternity". There is much more of that, generally people are talking about God, Jesus and Virgin Marry a lot. And they always taking their hats and cross themself when they see cross or wayside shrine. Honestly Im suprised that you are so suprised about that. I always thought that Italians are quite religious people. And btw Im atheist myself so no one can acuse me of being biased here. Even nonreligious people are acting like that in certain situations, especially if we are dealing with older people. This is just tradition. So if people here (and Im sure this also applys to Czech Republic, even when its most atheistic country on earth right now) are acting like that in XXI centure, Im sure like hell that they were even more religious in XV century. Your rant about this is very weird in my opinion. Cheers.

      @galloglaigh8198 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Kretek,
      Same in Ireland. Many people in the countryside are still very religious. And even those that do not practice, they still carry out many traditional Catholic customs without realizing it. That's just how rural Irish society works. Many people still go to mass. When people walk or drive pass a church they bless themselves. People still often say "God bless" and other religious greetings/goodbyes when speaking English. In Gaelic the standard greetings are religious anyway. I experienced a great deal of culture shock when moving to a more urban area in the United States, in realizing that people take offense to religious greetings and practices in public (especially if said practices are Christian). It came off as strange.
      I grew up around many Polish immigrants who came to Ireland in the early 2000s. One way they connected with the native Irish was through a common appreciation of both religion and alcohol. Ye lads are a fine group of people if I may say so.

      I don't know where you live in the US but where I am is completely different. Sure I can imagine it would be like as you said in some of the deep south Evangelical areas but even then "physical violence" seems a bit hyperbolic. Note that I said I was in a more urban area too, a hardcore Democrat area at that. When in public using christian phrases and greetings, even during Christmas, is not advised as it could be deemed "offensive". I just found it a bit silly when I first moved here, to be offended by things like "Merry Christmas" or God bless". I wouldn't get offended if a Jew said "Happy Hanukkah" to me.

    Archery is fine, you just gotta find the sweet spot of where to aim, once you find it you will be able to accurately hit targets at 10 meters, I'd say I hit 85% of the shots within 10-15 meters range, the only thing that bothers me is how slow the arrows fly, but you just gotta find that sweet spot of where to aim and you'll be landing those shots. Also, it specifically says that up until level 5, your character is NOT able to hold the bow the right way, so up until then it will be very difficult to hit a target since your arms are wobbling all over the place. Practice your archery, level up to 5 and stop complaining about a feature which is there for a reason.

The first time I was doing some proper horse riding (i.e. not just sitting on a horse being lead by someone else as a kid) I had to keep reminding myself I don't have to steer the horse like a bike, the horse is not completely stupid and in fact a lot can be done by voice (and by appropriately pressing your legs against the horse's body). Also, sometimes the horse just wants to do something and if you're not a very experienced rider, he will know and just do whatever he wants (particularly if there is something tasty around). Or he will go forward but not exactly on the side of the road you'd want him to, because the other side looks nicer...the fact that there are a lot of branches hanging above that side of the road which will hit the rider is not the horse's problem.

    • @pypy1986820
      @pypy1986820 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Shogun 2 is a good game but it's very far from historical accuracy is any shape or form. There are some major conscious weeaboo decisions.
      First and the worst offender--all katana units (not counting Nodachi units): there are no such units in history whatsoever because Katana is a personal defense weapon used by primarily pole-arm or bow wielding soldiers as a quick draw secondary weapon (In fact, any one who is remotely familiar with historical warfare will see how nonsensical and ineffective these units will be in real life).
      Secondly, Arquebas dominated Japanese warfare because it was clearly better than every other handheld projectile weapons Japanese had ever had access to at the time. A realistic Arquebus should have the best range in addition to the morale dropping and armor piercing effect. Indeed, aside from the rate of fire, gun units should be better than bow units in every conceivable ways in Shogun 2.
      Thirdly, all ranged Samurai units should be formidable close quarter fighters with their personal defense katanas. The whole point of Samurai were Japanese take on the highly adaptable East Asian nomadic soldiers from the great steppe, so they were all trained to master all weapons include ranged fighting. The yeomen archers that can't shoot while moving and can't take on professional soldiers in close quarter combat has few equivalents in East Asian warfare because recurve bow is a expensive non-peasantry weapon that demands costly maintenance but grants the wielder the ability to shoot as well as long bow while mobile and much shorter albeit more stiff string pull to enable mounted archery. The owners of these weapons tend to also be relatively wealthy professional soldiers who were well equipped and well trained in other areas of warfare so they shouldn't be lousy close quarter fighters with poor morale. Again, all ranged units that's samurai or Ronin tier should function like the Foot Samurai unit from the Rise of Samurai DLC in close quarter combat, and the stats of Katana Samurai should be the base stats for all samurai units with little alterations based on the unit's choice of weapon and specialized role.

      I see there are people not caring about their lives😂
      Anyways, I love your comment, you put lots of detail in it and it seems to be really logical. Although I knew that the Katana was a secondary weapon. Just as you may see in historical Europe. The Longsword was the same equivalent to the Katana by functioning as a secondary weapon. But to be honest it's actually one of the best Total War games. Like Metatron said in this Video, he is still recommending KC: D, though being sometimes disappointed.
      Lastly I apologize for unclear usage of English, I'm not a native.

      Unfortunately no because most of what I said is rather basic information like steel plate armor cannot be cut through by swords in realistic situations. If you don't believe me, just do some basic online research on warfare of Sengoku Jidai, you won't find katana centric units but you also won't find people directly refuting it because no one expect this expectation. About arquebus domination in Sengoku Jidai. If you know anything about Oda Nobunaga's military record, you will know how the power of guns changed Japanese warfare forever (practically replaced all handheld projectile weapon in big battles; Samurais were still using bows for personal or small scale skirmish for it's fast fire rate). For my last point, just read stuff about recurve bow. It's a compact bow that packs a punch but without being cumbersome. Finally, just research Samurai's military role before Tokugawa period and you will find evidence that Samurais are basically elite mounted or dismounted ranged fighters who can also fight well in close quarter as a secondary functionality (I'm not suggesting Foot Samurais would stand a chance against cavalry charges with katana alone). I think my last point might be a bit too absolute as Chinese does have a lot of conscript low morale poorly geared and trained units in Medieval days.

      TPS Nighthunter I agree that Shogun 2 is an amazing game and I also somewhat understand their unit choice. If most of the samurais units got similar stats, the game would be even worse on the lack of unit variety issue which is the only real unsatisfying feature of the game.

    The archery is just practice, I had to practice quite a lot, but at the end the reward of getting it right made me very happy. Now on a replay I enjoyed my previous skills and wasn´t so difficult to use it

    @Metatron, I just want to point out a few things here, may edit to put more as the video plays, but 1. Powder based weapons are mentioned on the siege as I'm sure by now you have seen it, the area the game plays on does not have that tech yet. And 2. Henry is actually a knight, afterall, later after the infiltration on Vrenik, the second bandit fort, it is revealed to you (and to Henry, poor Czech) that he is a noble bastard.
    Plus, the case of being beaten by a peasant, he just had more ability with the fists lol, plus, all the punches go towards the head on this game, there is no plate punching.
    Plus 2, I do agree that the game is unstable, but really, just learn alchemy and you'll have an infinite supply of saves.
    Plus...3 the miller's bed stops being an save point if you take too longo to pay your debt to him.
    LOL, the conversation part is so real!

    You talked about progression and not being a hero killing many opponents alone. I loved that, initially. I remember during the first mission I was being chased by few Hungarians. I turned around, drew my blade and thought to myself "Hah, come at me!" to then be utterly destroyed. I loved it, I'm the son of a blacksmith, why would I beat trained soldiers, and more importantly outnumbered?
    The problem is that as you progress through the game, towards the end, you become utterly op to the point it's completely immersion breaking just like the various bugs. In order to test how op I was, I decided I'd go on a rampage in Rattay and kill everyone. Guess what? I single-handedly killed over 20 guards, and I was only stopped because a main character started fighting me and I couldn't kill him. Totally unstoppable, if it weren't for that.
    The other thing I don't like is that the game doesn't really encourage you to go for side quests, at least that was my experience, so I finished the game in a couple days because the only meaningful thing I felt like doing was completing main quests. And the story isn't even so interesting, very clichè-like. "Oh, baddies attack and kill your parents, get revenge, save the King". Ugh...
    Oh and, no lances on horse, what the heck? Come on!
