In Red Dead Redemption 2, I had hunted down the Legendary Bear and skinned its pelt and was bringing it back to the trapper. Along the way a woman asked me to bring her back to civilization and I genuinely grappled with the decision to leave that pelt behind since I was so immersed in the game. So when I left her there and brought the pelt to the trapper I ended up feeling like a major piece of shit and it was honestly the best moment I've ever experienced in a video game
I know you know this but you can leave legendary pelts behind & still get the clothes from the trapper or you can quickly ride past the woman & get the random event again.

I think these game reviewers aren't playing the game to experience it, they are playing it to review. This means they are too busy trying to 1. get through it quickly so they can get their review out on time and 2. break down the components of the game into bite sized ratings instead of throwing themselves into the journey that the game has created. Imo that makes video essays waaaaay more reliable and honest because they tend to be a reflection on the experience of the game and they get released post hype (usually). Game reviews and game scores don't have that kind of love and dedication in mind. Brilliant video!
reviewers, streamers, youtubers etc simply do not play videogames as a general gamer would which in turn makes any reviews/opinions/critiques pretty much moot
1:40 Okay, I actually agree with the principle in IGN's review, but they delivered it very poorly. The water routes in ORAS were dreadfully boring because the designers tried to have a near even amount of land routes/water routes. But unfortunately, the land routes are just far more interesting than surfing through a bland open sea for half the game. IGN understood this, and I think they aren't entirely wrong, but damn, they couldn't have phrased it worse... There is a difference between saying, "Water routes are too repetitive and bland." and saying, "Too much water." which basically summarizes my entire issue with game journalism most of the time, even if it's rooted in a genuine critic, it's so poorly articulated that it just comes across as completely incompetent.

While I agree with a lot of what you're saying. You have a bit of an issue with trying to understand the other side. Your TLOU2 segment represents that perfectly. You are showing and responding to weird comments and mocking them, while ignoring real criticism of the game. It has nothing to do with Abby and all to do about the juxtaposition of narrative. The story is told in a poor order and treats players like bad people for something they have no control over. You cannot not kill enemies that want to murder you and the game expects you to feel bad after showing you how they were actually awesome people. No one that respects people's opinions says you don't have right to enjoy the game, but sadly you're dismissing that criticism with weird comments and mocking voice as if anyone that has a problem with the game says "Abby bad, game woke". It's never that simple. Your segment on streamers also is a bit weird. Streamers are not reviewers. They have no obligation to play the game "correctly". If they don't enjoy it it's fine and their opinion. People who blindly take everything a streamer says as gospel would not play the game because they saw said streamer play and not enjoy the game. If I watch streamer I like and want to know his opinion about the game I get exactly what I want. There are very good reviewers and for more informed and unbiased takes I will go to them.
one can often see this behaviour in comment sections on facebook etc.: Person One: I'd really like to know, why so many hate on this game. Person Two: The incels are scared of women in video games. Me: Well actually, Person One, lucky you, there are dozens of people right here in this comment section explaining eloquently in detail what they hate about it. Obviously the stupid one liner comments ("Trans propaganda! Hard pass!") are more numerous online (because they are easier to write and because stupid people are disproportionally more active/vocal on social media) but it's no excuse to ignore the obvious presence of solid criticism. I think the makers of the Sonic movies deserve much praise for looking past the shit posting (and there was A LOT of it) and recognising that besides of the usual trolling there were actual fans reasonably disappointed with the initial movie-Sonic design. Regarding that "wall of text exploring the deeper meaning" - no. That was basically fan fiction trying to fill the gaps/explain random twists in the story. And if I have to write my own story to make your story comprehensible, you, Neil, failed as a writer. Edit: Found something: "We did a lot of iterations on what that last act looked like, but the final beat was that Ellie would kill Abby. About halfway through production, we changed that and had Ellie let go at the last second to [illustrate] that some little part of the old Ellie, the Ellie with humanity, the Ellie that is impacted by Joel, still exists within this character who has been so overtaken by her quest for revenge." - narrative lead Halley Gross. So no, no "Ellie saw herself in Abby". Like i said, fan fiction.
I think you could write a thesis on why bad marketing can ruin a brand / series like with TLOU2. How can people ignore the trailers saying "it can't all be for nothing" and Joel saying "you didn't think I'd let you do this alone" and then think removing him from the game an hour in was going to go? They could have surprised players, led them on and then bringing him back later or something to get the reaction they wanted without insulting the players, but no, they did what they thought would get sales and who cares if it sours the series as a whole. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Not to mention that TLOU2 had some stupid moments that tried to make us feel bad but fell short because of stupidity...for example, Abby thought it was a good idea to bring a pregnant woman with her.
I like how he spent minutes justifying why a woman in a post apocalyptic setting is more ripped than most real bodybuilders despite not experiencing the pre apocalypse world i.e she doesn't know what body building is, it's hard to find equipment and steroids for body building and Abby for sure wouldn't have the time to work on her body while trying to survive. What's even worse is that TLOU2 is very much trying to be as grounded and realistic as possible while having the virus and zombie-like creatures, yet he compares Abby's design to fucking Roadhog from Overwatch and Mario which aren't trying to be realistic at all.
For my liking the game had a genuinely bad narrative, but it can't be underestimated how much the criticism ended up just being "game woke, abby ugly, yuck lesbian" instead of the good criticism about how the writing was off by having abby be a better character despite not being a true protagonist and being portrayed as a good person after doing something fans can't forgive, having a spin off game about just abby coming out first ending with her killing joel but after we have seen her do good, and then the sequel with only Ellie, would have been more interesting, that and having either a better companion or not having one, way too many people got annoyed at ellie being lesbian when the only real problem was that the other character was very forgettable and barely did anything
FINALLY someone talked about streamers playing rdr2, most of them pretty much just rush through the story while barely exploring the open world and take things slow, i mean just look at ishowpeed's recent playthrough. Especially when the game was first released a lot of youtubers were rushing the game just so they can pump out a review as quick as possible then complain about how slow the game is and how the open world is empty💀
he has since replayed it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit, but many of his criticisms (like the waypoint simulator type mission design that leaves no freedom whatsoever) are perfectly valid
I mean I like the game also but it definitely has issues. Like it being a waypoint simulator like the other guy said. But the shooting is also clunky. If you keep aiming after shooting then you have to again press lmb to cock the gun. The movement doesn't feel snappy and feels way too floaty. I personally prefer rdr1 shooting mechanics but the feel of shooting in rdr2 is much more impactful. No game is perfect. He also couldn't enjoy the game because during the time the game was released he lost his save file which made him dislike the game more.
@@noobtube9551 because it's a single action revolver, you need to cock it before you shoot it, it's floaty because you're not playing as a special ops soldier who's been training for 50 years, you're playing as a malnurished outlaw who just happens to be in a lot of gun fights
21:52 After 4 years, a lot of people still don't like TLOU2. Shot in the dark, maybe they actually do have valid reasons and you simply disagree. How long does this grudge have to last before its fine to say, "a lot of people didn't and still don't like the game and that's ok."? 5 years? 10? It's fine to just admit that people legitimately didn't like it without venom towards them, especially if you're asking for them to treat you the same. Doesn't seem very forgiving is all.

@@jorgealbertohernandezgutie7696entirely cohesive is a huge strectch. I can even use one of the dumber arguments to refute that. In a normally grounded game that at least obeys the strength of human beings, why is abby built on the same level as top level female body builders or natural female lifters that have top level genetics and modern support? Plus joel trusting strangers is not a sign of growing love but a lack of survival instincts in an apocalypse.
What I normally do before buying a game is that I check the general reception of the game and see if it fit me or not for example you and everyone loved days gone but for me I just didn't feel it because I was genuinely tired of the zombie troupe as a whole (also great vid as always man )

Yeah, take one look at the gameplay and if you feel like doing that for a couple hours give it a chance, hordes are awesome and the story isn't bad exactly, only real critique I'd have would be how much and for how long the story dictates which side content you can and can't do

24:51 If you remeber in the opening of the first game he told Tommy to keep driving and left a family on the side of the road and this was when Sarah was still alive so it's kind of contradictory to your point about Joel becoming trustworthy like he was previously when he really wasn't. Even with Ellie's influence he would not trust every stranger instantly he would still be on his guard given the fact that he is aware of the danger humans can be in this world arguably more than the infected.
While I do agree with most of what you’ve said, I have disagree with your opinion on TLOU2. I have a whole host of issues with the game, but the biggest one I have its terrible pacing between its two playable characters.
dear just1n trudeau while i sadly didnt use this video as something to watch whilst eating my sleep schedule is fucked rn so im using this to keep myself awake and hopefully get it back on track, thank you.
I lowkey hate public opinion because sometimes a game that is hated like fuk is hated by 98% people who have seen 10 minutes of gameplay from a popular person who dislikes it and just adopts other peoples opinions instead of thinking for themselves. Everyone has the same regurgitated opinion. Some games are just that bad, but sometimes you just got to try. But the worst part is liking a game (which is literally your opinion) and getting blasted to oblivion by people who haven’t played anything but Roblox but saw a popular twitch streamer clown on it.
Don't forget that on release, a lot of these games had poor performance and bugs. Reviewers have to take that into account. Days Gone in particular did not run well on launch. User reviews being good now is the way a customer can tell this has changed.
Why do people who like Tlou2 always dismiss the criticism it gets as just weirdos on the internet hating it. There is very very valid criticisms of the game especially it's writing which is great at points then hits a brick wall in others. Neil's goal was to make people feel for Abby but when the fight with Ellie happens 9 out of 10 people will let Ellie kill Abby. I also did it without even realizing that it's something most people do
I agree, it also doesn’t make sense from a lore perspective for Abby to be built like she is without the use of steroids, which she most likely wouldn’t have access to for obvious reasons (it’s 20 something years into a zombie apocalypse). Also the pacing was wonky with how it made you play as Abby, if the game kept flip flopping between perspectives then it would have had a more cohesive flow, but letting the player experience most of Ellie’s story before Abby’s makes it incredibly difficult to put yourself in Abby’s shoes.
Have you seen how many weirdo’s on the internet there are? Of course I think it’s weird to dislike the game. “bad writing” is as generic a criticism as “woke”.
@@TheSCIOnce not really the game is pretty much flawed with the entire message it’s trying to portray. It’s a revenge story, with no pay out in the end. Ohh Ellie had a change of heart and doesn’t kill Abby that killed her father figure but she slaughtered everyone else in her path.
21:05 so whats the solution. Ign states on their website that their reviews are opinion already. Shouls they always say "I dont like this but some might" . The fact that someome else might like something the reviewer doesnt is already implied.
They're already known for giving 9 to literally everyone, and the moment they give a 6.5 to an objectively mediocre AAA game, everyone blasted them, I liked Days Gone, I loved fighting hordes and several of the missions, and while I won't ever defend that Alien review, Days Gone getting a 6.5 is not at all crazy, had it come from anyone but the "9 to all CODs" outlet
@jorgealbertohernandezgutie7696 IGN has who they think is the best suoted for each game which vote by their own standards. The guy who reviews cod is probbably a massive cod fan and doesnt ask for a lot to enjoy iy. Realisticly there is no wrong score, Good or bad is pjrely subjective. Watch "dont trust game reviewers" by a channrl callrd rantwo?
@jorgealbertohernandezgutie7696 there is no "right score" even for COD. Cause by telling someone their score is too high or too low you are telling them that they are enjoying the game wrong. Reviews are just opinion. The only review you can trust is your own. Also they are knkw for giving a 7 to everyone. Which makes sense. Most games you are interested in are gonna be good enough to be a 7 but not masterpieces.
Sorry but you clearly didn’t play the last of us 1 if you think Joel being trustful of strangers makes any sense. Joel was always a pragmatist. Literally one of the first acts we see him do in the first game is tell Tommy to ignore a family on road asking for a lift this was before sarah died and before they even understood what was happening. He is distrustful of strangers not because he is a survivor but out of his need to protect those he loves. His reluctance to help the fireflies is because he cares about Tess. Post jackson Joel would grow more protective not less especially after coming to care about the people on the town which is shown by all the people mourning him after he died.
Post Jackson Joel did exactly what he should've done in Part 1, he learned to let go. He stopped trying to save Ellie and their relationship and became content to just know that she's alright, he should have been content in the first game as well and not slaughtered an entire floor of people. And Ellie tragically couldn't let go either and as a result lost everyone she cared about. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you WANTED Joel to do he did what he CHOSE to do.
@@MrEffectfilms no, the only thing that matters is what Neil Cuckmann wanted in the game. The character in TLoU2 is NOT Joel. Sorry, but go defend your garbage game somewhere else
He also missed the fact that Joel wasn't the one who said his name, Tommy did. Joel was still being careful with strangers even after spending time in Jackson.
@@SlowNSteady123 No. If you refuse to hear a perspective other than your own then I suggest you leave the Internet because not everyone likes what you do.
Deep writing and TLOU2 don't share a same galaxy. TLOU2 is about Drunkmeh trying to retcon everything to make us like a girlboss. And failing miserably. He cut the option to off the girlboss at the end because no playtesters spared her. Being Woke is just one of that game's problems.
Now i KNOW that you're just making stuff up. There is ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE to back up your claim of ND cutting out the option of sparing or killing Abby during playtests because The Last of Us games are NOT about player choice. They are about telling a linear story and getting the player to experience the story of a character. In an earlier draft of the story, Abby would die at the end of the game. Druckmann's co-writer was initially onboard with this idea. But as the story kept getting fleshed out, she felt that maybe Abby should live. She brought this idea over to Druckmann, they thought it over and realized that Abby surviving IS a better choice for the story AND for Ellie's story. It is letting go of her obsession, of her revenge, of her guilt that allows Ellie to walk away with some of her humanity, which can allow her to find a better path, instead of walking around like a shell, unfulfilled (much like Abby was doing, until she found purpose in helping Lev and Yara). This change in story happened naturally, via a conversation between the writers as they fleshed the story out... not something that came out of playtesting cuz Naughty Dog games ARE NOT ABOUT GIVING PLAYERS NARRATIVE CHOICES. There is not one credible shred of evidence to support your claim. Also, classifying Abby (who is a complex character with wants, needs, likable things about her, abhorrent things about her, flaws etc) as a girlboss (which is a one-note, one-dimensional trope) is simply disingenuous. What is it exactly about her that makes her a gIrLBoSs in your eyes anyway? That she's strong? What? I write all this not expecting a meaningful or decent response from you considering the fact that you used, "woke" (a bastardized term that has lost any and all meaning) as a "criticism". But we shall see lol
@@SidPhoenix2211 You will have to tell me what you like about that one note roid rage driven psycho. She is a girlboss, she is a steroid-abuse level bodybuilder in a post-apocalipse. If she was grounded in the setting, she would have been *Ellie, but with machetes/knuckledusters*, instead she is a naked king. Elle letting a vengefull psycho live is a stupid move. Abby letting Ellie live was also stupid. Writers giving their characters a lobotomy for "moral" reasons is not writing, its a hackjob. Writers retconning the ending of TLOU to make Joel look bad is a hackjob. Tlou2 was written by hacks. You liking it doesn`t make it a well-written game. Also, Abby`s actions led to a couple of dozen people dying, including a totally innocent Joel. And a dog. If she deservers to live after that, then im sorry, but this is lunacy.
To be honest I liked the video but I will say the way you take very silly arguments and avoid honest criticism against LOU2 is exactly what game journalists have been doing. As I said I liked the video but I find that somewhat hypocritical. It gives off the feeling that negative feedback isn't as reasonable or civil as positive feedback based on your personal feelings. In the future it would be more fair to make fun of the silly arguments as well as acknowledge the well-founded ones to avoid misrepresenting alot of normal people with differing opinions to your audience that may already agree with you. Ironically that's the point of the video. Again no hate lad, you have great insight in subjection in critique and how we should see "critic reviews". Keep it up Lad.

Good games get ignored by gamers more than critics who would rather buy the 21st copy of Call of Duty over Celeste, Animal Well and Okami. Nobody is incentivized to take risks and be creative.
It is entirely possible that Abby in TLOU2 uses steroids. She grew up in a military rebel environment and grew up with one goal of revenge. If David had medicine in Part 1, I'm sure steroids are around
But those were scavenged, it doesnt really make sense that one would have a large enough amount of steroids to make a significant difference without a high amount of nutrition. Plus she wouldnt be able to hog that much when she acts in a group and not alone.
@hseeba321 I would have to disagree with your point. Abby or her group could of scavenged too, no? Abbey also lived in one of the largest groups around (partly ex fireflies). They had military hummers for example with fuel to run them. Seems reasonable they could source food and multiple drugs. I understand what your saying about the world of TLOU having limited recources but multiple characters are shown to not be starving if in the right situation, such as a massive militant group. Another example would be Bill in the first game isn't exactly struggling for food (Ellie even points this out). Part of her character ark is to be disliked but I don't think her body type is impossible in the world of the story. I would however of liked it if the story had discussed the idea of her being on steroids as it would help explain it more directly in lore. I am obviously only speculating as to parts of her back story. Same with Joel. He's an older gentleman with a fair bit of muscle despite being on rations. Perhaps he took steroids at some point. Maybe those pills used as a gameplay mechanic.
I agree on everything you said, but if you refund too much on steam they can block your refund privileges, they said to me in a e-mail "it is not made for testing purposes, you will be blocked if you keep this up" when I did exactly what you said on VR games.
Funny how You brought Starfield to the conversation. From what I saw, people ain't going after this game, because it's a Bethesda game in space. They hate it, because Bethesda hyped it so hard, people believed they'll finally gonna break the formula (which they actually hinted at throught the interviews), but turns out that wasn't the case and we got Fallout in space. Nothing bad about that, but if you're gonna atract a space sim crowd with a game like Starfield, I'd recommend transfering all the power to your shields.
Clever joke at the end lol When they showed off the gameplay trailer it was clear that the formula was going to be in the classic Bethesda style, I think it makes sense for people to be upset that they didn't break the style they've been running for the last 15 years. But I followed the hype all the way from the 2018 announcement to the launch and I don't think there was any false advertising But of course, I can understand people misinterpreting what they'd be getting themselves into
It is also because they are tired of Bethesda's laziness and started to open their eyes after Fallout 76 because oh boy...the release was not smooth at all in terms of just performance and bugs.
On the Streamer angle, I liked how ActMan streamed RDR2, He engaged with fans during the non story nparts but let all the story parts play out without a word

5:08 I think a review should be all about personal opinions/issues about the game. The reviewer should be vocal about what they didn't like and why. If they didn't like the game, they should give it a bad score. They shouldn't give 8/10's to every game just because some people might like it. I remember people complaining about RDR2 being too realistic when it came out (particularly the looting taking time) but when I actually got around to playing the game it didn't bother me in the slightest, it just made the world and my actions feel more real
Personally, I couldn’t stand Days Gone. The plot progression and devices weren't great, the writing lacked depth, and the voice acting just didn’t land for me. While I did enjoy exploring the open world, the lack of variety in enemies and activities also made it feel repetitive. But hey, to each their own. That’s kind of the whole point of the video, right?
I remember seeing darkviperAU saying RDR2 wasn't that good for him bc its was too slow getting from A to B and when you try to do something different to do an objective the game just tells you nuh uh. I kinda understand why he said those things because it is kinda true but at the same tine its like... Thats the point? Not going rambo with a horse with a rocket on his ass. (He actually played it again and said he liked the game, but he still thinks is partially true for some missions)
My tip is to just find some reviewers on youtube who likes the same genres and value the same aspect of games as you. I don't care about someones opinion on racing games if they never play racing games
Yeah, dunkey is really good for reviewing story games for the most part, but he's basically said he'll give 0s across the board to any turn based combat, just because he wants fun games, can't really blame him for that, but I do like turn based games and want reviews for those, so gotts get someone else's opinion first
I also can’t seem to get into Baldur’s Gate 3, mostly because of the tactical combat, which I find genuinely boring, but also the lack of voiced protagonist, which is something I didn’t mind with other games, fondly enough
i am not into it either, couldn't tell you why. it might be because DnD 5e is a god awful system, it could just be the aesthetics, or maybe even the setting of faerun, but th egame is objectively good.
Yeah combat didn't click with me either, I was missing the kind of chain buffs or future planification that makes this sort of thing work, in the end it was just picking an attack and throwing it, it was a pity because divinity original sin2 was great in that regard, i also found the story in comparison with its competition, pillars of eternity, pathfinder, etc. In the end the only thing I found that made it stand out was graphics and budget with everyone being voiced, I also find it odd that the PC isn't voiced most of the time despite having a voice actor and voiced lines but it was maybe a choice to make dialogue feel more fluid
12:46 Looting items is the worst example possible . The real issue i have is with the skinning and foraging animations being super long. Pick up the turkey, hold it up, move it around, slowly pull it apart, reach around inside it, get the meat, throw away the body, get out a cloth, slowly wrap it, pit it away. REPEAT FOR THE OTHER 2 TURKEYS IN THE RAFTER Same with foraging plants, its super long and slow and you have to do it multiple times back to back and then hundreds of times over the course of the game. I get so happy when i go to skin an animal, get caught on something and the game skins it instantly so i just need to spend 2 seconds picking it up Its really nice the first 20 times but id like a toggle that makes it faster for when i need to grind out a bag upgrade or milestone
Let me get this straight. Your argument is that games criticism, which established that it's inappropriate to give anything less than a seven. Which copy PR directly from publishers. Who give the same COD, FIFA, Assassins' Creed, and whatever Bethesda cut n' paste is current 9/10 every time. THOSE guys aren't lenient enough with how they critique games? OK.
15:29 in chapter 3 when you raid the braithwaites mansion I actually felt so angry that they took jack, to the point where I was laughing at them burning alive even though i had been playing the game with high honor
Fun fact I agree with you for the first part until TLoU2 (I’m sorry I just wanted to play the game as Joel) and Starfield (loading screens, endless boring and uninspired dialogue and creepy NPCs killed it for me) I absolutely tried and like forced myself to like and love these games but the more I tried the more I failed. I preordered the super expensive collectors Starfield edition. I glad you liked them but this is how games are. Not all games can be for everyone. And hey I didn’t like Baldurs Gate 3 as well 😆 Loved Destiny 1 and couldn’t get into 2. Buddy told me how much he loved it I bought it and still disliked it. I just hope games like RDR2 will still be made although the COD and GTA Kids love to dopamine rush everything.
You do bring up a fair point with TLOU2, but I still think that the story was pretty bad as Ellie had little reason to spare Abby at that point. It would've made for a much better ending if Ellie killed Abby and the cycle of violence continued.
Why? So she could continue to be miserable and spend her following years being empty and aimless (much like how Abby was, until she found some solace in helping Lev and Yara). I think that everything that happens in Santa Barbara happens in the right way and that is precisely what gives Ellie a complete arc. She manages to break out of her obsession and salvages some hope of finding a better path forward. She is also able to SPIRITUALLY lay Joel to rest at the very end (after physically laying him to rest soon after his death), finding some strange form of closure in that. Ellie doesn't really spare Abby because she got to peep Abby's backstory or anything lol. In fact, a LOT of the game is intentionally about people being ignorant of other people's stories and making no effort to understand them cuz they are too consumed with anger and hatred. Ellie's agency, and lack thereof, is a BIG part of her story in BOTH games. Revenge isn't really why she goes after Abby in the end, it is guilt, trauma, and wanting to reclaim some of the agency that pretty much everyone has denied her throughout her life. She either never gets to make a choice, and when she does.... someone else comes along and takes the chance of acting upon it away from her. As she is choking Abby out (now, this is my interpretation. This moment is quite ambigious), she realizes that she simply doesn't feel better. Abby is a mere few seconds away from giving up the ghost and Ellie does not feel better. She is literally bawling her eyes out. So she lets go. She CHOOSES to not go through with this. She realizes that this is NOT what Joel would want for her. So she stops, and leaves. Now, one can say that "why didn't Ellie realize this sooner?". Good point. To that I would say that people rarely realize what's good for them at an ideal time, or quickly. It is often at a rock bottom moment that someone can see things clearly. Ellie had been too wracked with anger, guilt etc to see that what she's doing simply wouldn't help her. She herself wasted 2yrs that she could've had with Joel and she will never get that back... and doing this won't bring that back. Just my thoughts, sorry for writing so much.
Isn’t her life still miserable her going after Abby made her lose her ability to play the guitar and her lover she still lost everything the ending showed why revenge stories arnt the greatest
Also ngl his statement on Abby’s body type was such stretch holy shit lmao he should of kept that she was a soldier not the whole fiction thing cause tlou is mostly built on reality (I can see Abby body type being real buff woman exist it’s just people were not happy playing as a mc killer)
@@SidPhoenix2211 Until you realize Ellie murdered tons of Abby's friends and allies...yet spares Abby, see the problem? The idea sounds good but the execution was poor, honestly, they should have given us the Dishonoured type of system where the more people we kill the worse ending we get...but nope instead we don't get a choice in the matter.
@@royalhistorian5109 i think the main reason ellie didn’t kill abby was she realizes she’s losing herself. throughout the game we hear the lyric “if i ever were to lose you, id surly lose myself”. joel says in the last conversation with ellie that he would still go back and save her if he could do it all over. joel would lose himself if he lost ellie and now we see her doing just that from losing joel. as she’s drowning abby we see a flash back to that last conversation and it’s at this point where she realizes what joel was saying. she realizes that she’s losing herself because she lost joel and now understands why joel killed SO MANY PEOPLE to save her and doesn’t regret it. she killed a lot of people because he died and joel killed a lot of people to prevent her from dying. i think her letting abby live is shows that she has finally forgiven joel. once she forgives him there is no reason to kill abby. what joel did was WAY worse to her than what abby did to joel. it wouldn’t make any sense to forgive joel and not forgive abby.
you certainly made a lot of generalized statements about people who dislike Lou2. After saying not everyone will agree on games due to their nature. The reason I personally don’t like it, is 1, I have no interest in playing the character that killed a much loved character from the previous game. 2 the ending, if someone killed my father ( father figure in Ellie’s case) there is absolutely no way I let them go. I dont think it’s a bad game, I just don’t relate to the story at all and don’t like playing as the person who kills our Mc from the first game.
That’s cool, TLOU2 is still a masterpiece. I’m sorry you’re too much of a simpleton to really appreciate it. You’re what we call one-dimensional. But hey to each their own. That said, I actually felt some of the things you talked about as I first played through it, but the difference was I was incredibly curious what the journey was going to be like in spite of those uncomfortable feelings. I hated having to play as Abby first but at the end of the day I’m glad I did. It makes me sad that so many ppl shut it down bc of thoughts like “no, I don’t wanna!” Boring ppl like you bum me out.

Couldve just said "I like the game personally" but to each their own
There are several reasons why i dislike abby from tlou2, but being a woman isn't one of them. I personally do not like this game, and it is because it disrespects the first game in almost every way possible, from spitting on joels grave and killing him a really stupid way. Joel survived 20 years of the outbreak, and he suddenly goes into a room filled with armed strangers and tells them everything about him, then gets beaten to death in a very brutal way. How am I homophobic for rooting for the Gay character which is ellie.
16:17 I'm actually a newer player to RDR2, and I can truthfully say that if you clear up enough free time you can get the game done in a little bit more than a week, no skipping cutscenes and still counting the epilogue.
Honestly, as much as i like to shit on reviewers, they did give me a perspective on a lot of things. Some time back, i went back to some games i remembered really liking but all their reviews being trash. And honestly.. it wasn't a fun experience. Most of these games actually weren't as good as i remembered and it properly ruined my memory of them. I loved NSMB2 when it came out. Replaying it a few months ago made me realize that it's actually a fucking boring and easy game with very few new ideas and doesn't get above "meh" for me nowadays. We often forget that reviewers are encouraged to not let their personal experience during their playthrough influence their review too much. And let's just say, if we all going back to games we love, separated and isolated from the experience we had when discovering it, a lot of games we love aren't actually as good as we remember. The best example was Fortnite: OG. A lot of people went back to that and hated it, because not only were they expecting something else from the game at that point, but they themselves were not the same person they were when they first played the game. Also, to the progression point: I agree that games need progression. But the best games are those that feel great from the start and only get better. Something like Ghost Of Tsushima or Sekiro, who give you all important mechanics from the start and just give you more fun bonuses afterwards. In RDR2 for example (a game i love), the horse riding at the start felt like shit. Yeah, the progression felt good, but why do i gotta be frustrated for 10 hours before feeling that in a game not built for that kind of experience? Why can't the horse follow me from the start, but over time and affection, it gets faster, stronger, and gives us a special ability like time slowdown? It's a valid point that i feel too many people glorify.
Imo the issue is game reviews are still treated like film reviews. But you're comparing a usually sub 3 hour piece of passive content meant to be consumed in one sitting vs an often 2-3 digit hour immersive experience over a course of numerous sessions. But I wouldn't know how to fix that, bc it would require changing how the industry works and consumer demand.
Favorite's a loaded word (and it belongs to the adoring fan), but the winter section is truly the best part of the game, showing that Joel's bs not only ruined Ellie but saved her, she learned to survive and fuck others over from him
Critics don't understand video games, but I, a person dependent on income based on playing, discussing and reviewing video games am not a critic, I am some other thing that is not a critic.
I think red dead 2 will be one of the first games I play once I finish building my pc. I've seen so much good stuff about it and I already love clearing out the entire map in cyberpunk 2077 so I certainly do enjoy taking things slowly at times
Days Gone is one of the extremely few games where I had watched an entire playthrough of it (because I was convinced that I would never buy it). However, some months later I found the game on sale and decided: "Sury, why not?" Let me just say... I. Loved. All of It. I not only beat the main story, I 100% it and got every achievement (something I never do). I even grinded out the Challenges mode because I liked it so much. It's too bad people wrote the game off. If I ever find the confidence, I would like to do a character study on Deacon St. John one day.

Or children of the sun. Its biggest issue is the lack of good replayability. You play a mission, and you get a high score. Being on a world leaderboard isnt the best motivator. Medals and friend leaderboards maybe
Moronic take. IGN is still huge and 100% affects reviews
@@iluvatarchem like Concord? Or better yet like dragon age vailgard the very review affect the sales? You can say that they used to affect reviews and ratings to many people buying the game but now they're beginning to become more and more irrelevant

There are very good reviewers and for more informed and unbiased takes I will go to them.
one can often see this behaviour in comment sections on facebook etc.:
Person One: I'd really like to know, why so many hate on this game.

If you keep aiming after shooting then you have to again press lmb to cock the gun. The movement doesn't feel snappy and feels way too floaty. Knowing that TLOU 2 failed makes me happy.
While I do agree with most of what you’ve said, I have disagree with your opinion on TLOU2. I have a whole host of issues with the game, but the biggest one I have its terrible pacing between its two playable characters.
Fair enough! A valid critique
This is why i don't really trust anyone's opinion on games on the internet because who is gonna know more about what i like than me

Exactly
@@TheSCIOnceseems like ur coping
@ The other side is coping. I get to celebrate the monumental achievements of the game, and can comprehend its complexities. Hope that helps.
@@100dayGamer What in the fucking mental gymnastic.
And he changed becuase of Eli
Absolutely 👍🏻
She is a "I AM A MAAAAN *Punch*" meme that Duckmon suckers people into beliveing to be a character.

Clever joke at the end lol
When they showed off the gameplay trailer it was clear that the formula was going to be in the classic Bethesda style, I think it makes sense for people to be upset that they didn't break the style they've been running for the last 15 years. But I followed the hype all the way from the 2018 announcement to the launch and I don't think there was any false advertising
But of course, I can understand people misinterpreting what they'd be getting themselves into
It is also because they are tired of Bethesda's laziness and started to open their eyes after Fallout 76 because oh boy...the release was not smooth at all in terms of just performance and bugs.

Yeah combat didn't click with me either, I was missing the kind of chain buffs or future planification that makes this sort of thing work, in the end it was just picking an attack and throwing it, it was a pity because divinity original sin2 was great in that regard, i also found the story in comparison with its competition, pillars of eternity, pathfinder, etc. In the end the only thing I found that made it stand out was graphics and budget with everyone being voiced, I also find it odd that the PC isn't voiced most of the time despite having a voice actor and voiced lines but it was maybe a choice to make dialogue feel more fluid

Looting items is the worst example possible . The real issue i have is with the skinning and foraging animations being super long.
Pick up the turkey, hold it up, move it around, slowly pull it apart, reach around inside it, get the meat, throw away the body, get out a cloth, slowly wrap it, pit it away. REPEAT FOR THE OTHER 2 TURKEYS IN THE RAFTER
Same with foraging plants, its super long and slow and you have to do it multiple times back to back and then hundreds of times over the course of the game.
I get so happy when i go to skin an animal, get caught on something and the game skins it instantly so i just need to spend 2 seconds picking it up
Its really nice the first 20 times but id like a toggle that makes it faster for when i need to grind out a bag upgrade or milestone
OK.

No matter how bad AI is in the winter section of TLOU part 1, Ellie is still a bad ass. Easily my favorite VG character.
Abso friggin lutely!
You had me until you talked about the last of us part 2. The game was fuckin terrible. I'm every regard except for gameplay and graphics
25:30 I thought my phone was ringing thanks a lot bro i was expecting a call from someone lol
However, some months later I found the game on sale and decided: "Sury, why not?"
Let me just say... I. Loved. All of It. I not only beat the main story, I 100% it and got every achievement (something I never do). I even grinded out the Challenges mode because I liked it so much. It's too bad people wrote the game off. If I ever find the confidence, I would like to do a character study on Deacon St. John one day.
I hate to think about all the players who would love rdr2 but didn’t buy it because of a streamer.
6:30 firstly realism doesn't make a good game, maybe some core audience would enjoy it but probably not most people, secondly steam review mean absolutely nothing, as long as the game functions and the company doesn't do something horrible it ussually gets at least a very positive
I've never seen a critique of game critics that don't somehow devolve into "they gave a game I liked a score I disagreed with".
thats cause this is a video defending rdr2 and tlou2 with little logic or reasoning. hypocritical 1 hour vid
mfs gave rainworld a 45 buh
7:27 The Lost and Damned music hit Different
I have a group of friends that constantly bash me for liking “niche” games like cry of fear, faith the unholy trinity, sally face and risk of rain 2 (CoF being my fav). I also listen to really niche music (my favourite bands are windir, Tool and Death grips), so they basically just accuse me of having a really bad taste in everything and say that I’m trying to be different. It’s a shame that certain people can’t be more open minded…
Most people are sheep and it is good you are not like the sheep.
is Tool considered niche😭😭
@@josephgonzo I mean i listen to nicher stuff like sun o))), sleep or totalselfhatred. Tool in the metal community isn’t considered that niche but for normal ears the complex time signatures, weird lyrics and particular riffs, yes it is.
Swedish depression sim is truly the best game ever, it really makes you feel like you're getting run over
