Lock, thank you so much for sharing your personal story related to this game. You’re an impeccable storyteller and my heart ached for your situation. Taking care of an unwell parent is a bleak and dire task, and I’m glad you found an escape in this beautifully realized world
I usually dislike common mechanics added for immersion that don't really work or are annoying. But damn this is the first game that made me think "I'm meeting an important person, better wash myself and my gear"
That's so true. No other game makes me automatically think "I'm going to visit a nobleman to convince him to do something, I'd better put on a silly hat and gold chain and pay the bathmaids a visit. And I'd better make sure not to step in any puddles on the way back!"
Sorry to hear about your dad. That's a rough one. KCD has sentimental value for me because it cured an itch I had since I was a little kid. I can't imagine what it must mean to you. I've always wanted a game like KCD but got disappointed every time the pictures on the back of the box didn't reflect what I imagined at all. I remember Morrowind had a screenshot of first person sword fighting on the box and I instantly bought it. Granted I didn't regret that one but it also wasn't really what I was looking for either. Then as an adult checking out new medieval themed releases, gameplay videos and trailers I was constantly disappointed by over the top arcade physics, magic, stupid armour or weapons in looks and or mechanics, a lack of depth or what have you. Nothing quite did the trick. Then KCD came along and just did the thing. Not flamboyant, not turned to 11, not dumbed down or stereotyping, just exactly what it says on the tin: a first person medieval role-play simulator that holds up to the scrutiny of nerds like myself with a good (and even historically based) story on top. I'm literally frothing at the mouth thinking about what KCD2 will bring to the table. I can't wait. Time for another hardcore play-through in preparation :)
I love the part where the video turned into the editor opening up, you're a great man, Matty is lucky to work with you because you genuinely seem like very reliable dude, amazing video btw
I just started playing this game a few days ago, and I agree 100% with your thoughts. What really got to me was your dads brain injury story. My dad was in a peddle bicycle accident over 8 years ago with a severe TBI and is a completely different now, an angry person who just yells at me if I even say hi to him. He believes stories that never remotely happened about me or my mom, won't accept any sort of help from me or anyone, hates my mom (who has cancer, 1 leg and has been slowly dying for the past 7), refuses to buy her groceries (I've been doing it the past 9 years). It's been completely and truly horrible and a nightmare and I have and have had zero family for all those years to help at all. It's very, very hard. This game has become in recent days a challenging escape as well. Thanks.
I don't usually like or comment on videos but this video is far more superior than any popular youtuber. Entire video was well explained, with fun details and even the personal life story was relatable. I am new to this channel, I don't know Matty but you have earned a follower

Amazing review. I teared up when you spoke about your dad. So sorry to hear that. What a masterpiece of a game. KCD2, if it comes up in great technical state and USUK journalists don't whine too much, could be Warhorse's BG3 moment.
KCD is my favourite game of all time. I’ve never been as immersed within a story as with KCD. The game made me excited to finish work and get home to play which is something I hadn’t experienced since I was a kid.
This is my first time playing it, and I just made it past the prologue, I spent 3 hours reading the codex, and I really feel like I'm in 15th century Bohemia
Before I start the nightingale patrol, I always put Henry through a daily training regime. Going for runs, hopping fences , bow training and then sword training with captain Bernard.
So many good things dropped. First Lock video, hilarious intro, and the surprise that the Mafia game writer is the same for Kingdom Come Deliverance?! Amazing
It’s one of the best games ever made. It’s in my top 5 best games of all time. Raven’s beak and Bailiff’s mace are still my go-to favorite weapons. After every hiatus, I do several rounds of training with Bernard just to get acclimated with the amazing combat system. I can’t wait for KCD2!
yup same for me. I prefer a metal plated battle axe over the mace but I'm right there with you with the raven's beak. joinking a halberd and absolutely decimating can be fun too lol
One of the greatest RPGs ever made. The joy I felt seeing there was an announcement trailer for KCD2, I hadn't felt about a game since Skyrim's gameplay reveal. You'd be doing yourself a disservice by not playing through it.
As a Romanian, Kingdom Come Deliverance is the game in which I got immersed the most. I felt like I was there each time I played it... The houses, the music (especially the music) and everything else reminded me of how Romania was back in the day. It also reminded me of that cartoon "Hungarian Folk Tales", of which many elements are also seen in Romanian folklore (and vice versa). I don't know, I really loved that game.
I was one of the first backers on Kickstarter. It was also the first thing I ever backed there. Got the game, played a bit, put it down - mostly because it ran like crap on my old PC. Rediscovered it this year and finally finished it just two or three weeks before the announcement of KCD2. What a game! Can't wait for the second one.

Great video. Your story is also touching... Thanks for sharing it and keep up the great work. I started another playthrough of KCD on my Switch. Navigating on the map based on landmarks is some of the most fun I've had in any RPG. Especially because everything is just so beautiful and it just makes me feel good to take a stroll through this incredible depiction of medieval central europe.
Great video! I just finished the game yesterday night. What a journey... It was rough at the beginning because Henry is bad at everything, but once I understood that and watched Henry grow, man was it satisfying. And thank you for sharing your personal story. Wish you the best.
He man, thank you for sharing all of that!! I'm will you and I LOVED KCD and in a way saved my life as well. That year I found my wife was cheating on me got divorced, gave up my house and lost all contact to my 2 step daughters that i had helped raise for years. Losing everything you had and starting over with Henry was such a perfect escape for me and eventually I, like Henry, learned to be my own hero.
Well done! I’m sorry to hear about your dad 😢. Thank you for sharing your experience with all of us! I’m downloading now and can’t wait to find out more about myself within the Kingdom 🤴
9:05 - "Skyrim for masochists" ahahaha Best Describtion ever. Also that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 trailer looked preety dang cool. And all coming out this year?? I might to get on this game before then
That description is so freaking wrong and so very unfair. Skyrim feels like a cheap, garish children's toy in comparison. KCD is for adults and history nerds instead of fantasy geeks or the traditional gamer
KCD2 will be the first game I preorder since RDR2. KCD, at least until the second game is released, remains my favorite RPG of all time and I'm willing to risk a preorder on Warhorse. They've shown that they listen to their fans and genuinely strive to improve and do the right thing, from pricing to bug fixes.
Introducing Danny, while he sits on a toilet, saying he's got big ideas and large ambitions, is pretty GD funny. Lock, your editing and writing is on point. I want moooore!!!
Lock, this is an incredibly compelling overview of KCD and it has really piqued my interest. I'm so sorry to hear about what you went through with your father. My father had dementia the last couple of years of his life and became too difficult for my mother to handle so he ended up in a nursing home where he was sedated 24/7 just so they didn't have to deal with potential aggression... or him and his confusion in general. I cannot imagine how harrowing it would be to take that on myself the way you did and it speaks to an almost heroic character quality you must be imbued with. KCD offering you some sort of respite from the hell you must've been living in at the time is a testament to the power of certain games and it's probably the most potent endorsement one could give to this game. I'm quite intrigued!
No offense to Maddie but I like listening to your content. I'm old and like old games. I also gotta admit I've grown found of how deep your voice goes om almost ever end syllable of a sentence. Thx!
Thank you for sharing that story. I just started this game and its making me feel like the first time I played Oblivion. I will be savoring every second of this first playthrough
Wow Lock. That story about your dad is the roughest I've heard from anyone. That is such a difficult situation to be locked into. Big respect for you having endured that. And you did a great review and I want to hear more like this! Even better, i'm finally going to try replaying the game now which I gave up in boredom and frustration back when it came out and even later after it improved. I was just too into other games then like Divinity or Prey or something taking away my attention. But now I think Ill be able to get into it finally. I want to before the sequel comes out which looks amazing!
Just started this game on Lock’s recommendation, I love it! I’m slow moving because I’m pretty new to properly playing rpg’s, I tend to play them like action adventure games.
That intro 😂. I love the LSM staff. Y’all are a bunch of best friends giving each other shit and I love it. Great video Lock! I always enjoy you opinions in games and I can’t wait to watch more of you content. I can’t wait for KCD2. Might have to give the first one a replay to prepare. As a history nerd and someone who’s into HEMA, I enjoyed how the developers used real, historical techniques in their combat. I just hope we can use polearms in the next one. The spear was the most common weapon back then, it was kinda weird that the polearm could barely be used and when it was, its like they didn’t what you to have it. Other than that, I loved it!
Also as an archer as well, i appreciated how you needed to level up strength to use certain bows. Thats what most ttrpgs and rpgs get wrong. You need strength to use a bow, not dexterity. It’s one hell of a work out lol.
@@eddielopez6796 I know it's a 4 month old comment but just wanted to say, you do see a lot of polearms in the first KCD, it's just you can't hold them in your inventory because they're too big. Most town guards and quite a few bandits (both low and high ranking alike) will carry spears, halberds, glaives etc. that you can pick up and use. You can even train with polearms if you visit a certain knight!
@@kiwi3085yeah I know they are and that you can train with them. It’s just crazy how you can’t have them in your inventory and get skills with it like every other weapon. I mean you can carry multiple lbs worth of armor but you can’t store it or run with it?
I just started playing this game a few days ago since it was 80% off (given the sequel's coming out soon), and absolutely love it. I'm playing in Hardcore mode on my first playthrough, it really makes it a unique experience.
I heard of this game in 2018 and was hype to hear about it back in the day. Only to my horror that the game was bugged as hell. This killed my hype for it as it was waiting for the game to come out. I forgot about it until we had the lockdown in 2020. I remembered the game and saw that the game was now stable and decided to get the Royal Edition that included ALL the DLC and boy was it worth it. I was beyond impressed with this game and how many hours I have put into it. I played it on Console first and put in probably 80 hours. When I decided to build my PC I got the game and I have at least 35 hours into it, I took a break from it. But Now I'm putting in a lot of hours again after KCD2 Announcement and it's still amazing and beautiful. This game is an immersive one of a kind game. I just hope they do not botch the launch again and deliver a seamless experience.
I've bought the game a while back and finally started to get into it, I'm still trying to level up Henry but and I'm starting to notice the how much better he moves and fights, at first I tought the game was broken cuz the delay reaction I was getting every time I was fighting, comes to find out it was Henry just wasn't strong or fast enough for the fight, so far I'm enjoying it and hope to finish it before KCD2 comes out.
Best intro ever. Also, KCD is one of the best games I've ever played despite the fact that it feels like nobody has ever heard of it. It made my COVID lock down experience more like a holiday than a torment. EDIT: I had no idea it was a Kickstarter project. I can't think of a higher praise for the KS platform.
Great video about a great great game. I also liked the aspect of personal favourite games you’ve mentioned - everyone has games that hold a special place in their heart due to the time and life events happening when they’ve played it. For me 2018 was one of the best years in my life, I embrace KCD as an enhancment of good memories. Sad to hear what happened to your dad, I’m glad this game helped you keep your head up.
I have a very similar story to yours. I attempted suicide not long before KCD came out. I lived with my ex who belittled me daily and was going through separation ties with family. I decided one night about 3 days after release (I remember very well) to buy KCD. This game helped me escape from the hell I was living in at the time and I swear I did not touch any other games during that period. This game saved me just as it did to you. And I am SO EAGER for KCD2 because of it. Bless you and I hope everything is going well for you.
Oof that harsh. This game really pulls you in doesn't it, even though hard times (something similar happened here). Hope you're doing better now buddy. KC2 seems like an absolute gem of a sequel, so it's something to look forward at the end of the year alright!
@@resellingwithjon It's better to play the backlog first. I made the terrible mistake of playing KCD before the backlog. Now, I'm so obsessed with KCD whenever I play something else I just want to go back to Bohemia. 😂
Don't forget to do as much training as possible with the guy at 13:06. Otherwise you will not be able to parry, which makes you super weak. I saw quite few people skip him and then say combat is just button mashing to kill people as soon as possible.
@@AleksiJoensuu haha yup this has been the trap for me for a couple decades. So now I’ve planned out my games to play for pretty much the next 2-3 years so I have some sort of structure. Otherwise I’ll just get distracted by the next shiny thing, again.
@@resellingwithjon I was secretly telling you this game is so good it ruined other games for me a bit :D Not everyone feels the same obviously but for me KCD shot straight up to my best games ever - and I've been gaming for several decades, too. It makes getting through a backlog hard: I played my first playthrough of KCD and was absolutely floored. Then I thought "Okay, I never replay games. I have to do something else." So I played The Witcher 3 from my backlog. When I finished I fired KCD back up straight and smiled for two hours picking herbs because I felt "home". Went on to replay KCD twice after that, for a total of three times, and I still want to go back.
I played through kingdom come deliverance four years ago on my Xbox One X and everyone around me thought it was a weird game and I could never really describe to them why I loved it so much. Now I realise why I did, the IMMERSION. No other game truly made me feel as though I was IN the world, honing my skills, getting stronger, smarter. Playing KCD will always be a highlight of that year.
I nearly missed this game due to the complaints on combat. "it's too hard". Im 55 and slowing down. Definitely not the fastest button masher around. But i heard so much good things, I finally had to try and as long as you understand you are a real peasant, and not some super natural movie star, the fighting is excellent and far more rewarding than other games and for me made it more immersive, not being superman.
Always been curious about this game. The intentionally complex saving/fast travel really reminds me of Dragon's Dogma and how even progressing the game can be a hurdle in itself, which I absolutely adore. Highly tempted to give this a go once I finish off the Plat for DD2. Great video. You're a fantastic addition to the RR team 🤝
When I first played this game it felt like the game I'd been looking for my entire life, I still play it a lot just to simply exist in the world as Henry. Recommend to anyone who has felt like they're too powerful too fast in any game before.
I just got this game off of steam last weekend for $7 with all dlcs. I love it!! Still learning the combat but boy is it fun to explore in the game too! Just make sure you take food with you so you don’t die of starvation like I do 😅
I have been playing games for 2 decades and this is in my top 5. I have played it at least 4 times with all side missions and DLCs including on hardcore and especially on hardcore it was the best and most immersive game experience one can have. I just loved to live in this beautiful world. Without any doubt KcD 2 will be game of the year for me.
I’ve been going through a video game lull and this is brining me out of it. After about half an hour, I hated how hard everything was and punishing the game seemed. Spent a little more time with it - you actually get better and level up as you do things more often, like in real life. The world feels real and the game really is a 10/10. All the best to you and your family, thanks for sharing.
I can echo that sentiment, but with different games. When I was a teenager and into my 20s, I was having a terrible time. Bullied and lost in a world I didn't fit in to, I don't think I would have survived it if it wasn't for video games giving me a chance to escape for a while. Still here and still loving video games.
Late comer here. This game quickly became one of my most beloved games I have ever played and I HAVE been playing games since I was 6 yers old. I am 46 now and althoughit is a completely different experience than yours, I have been suffering from chronic major depression my whole life and games are my escape. Along with my cats, games have saved me many times in my past. I am currently doing alright but I can see Henry's story keeping me alive if I stumbled upon it a year before its release when I was at my lowest ever. I am glad this creative and beautiful story helped you. I am thankful I found this gem. And I am thankful I stumbled upon this video of yours. Be well.
I had this game in my steam library for almost 2 years before I downloaded it just bcs i didnt have anything else to play. Few hours in and i fell in love with this game. It can be clunky experience but damn worth playing it. Not for everyone tho.
So happy to hear Lock over on these channels! Didn’t realize some folks were shitting on his addition to the channels so now I gotta offset the man children crying that a different tone is hitting their eardrums.
KCD slaps. I played it on Series X originally and it was an absolute banger, I’ve since ascended to the PCMR and KCD bangs even harder. I am unable to remain still in anticipation of the sequel. Henry is a fantastic character and the many people you meet along the way stand alongside him in this regard. I haven’t felt excitement like this since the run up to Fallout 4, with maybe Red Dead 2 being ranked just as highly in the context of my hype. Oh yeah and I only played it on hardcore with all negative perks. Learning the map by sight lines was unbelievably rewarding yet suitably tedious.
I don't know who Matty is but you are a great narrator and I love your video and I love Kingdome come. People who hate the game probably didn't take time to play it at all or just couldn't get over the fact you need to train your character to be any good. I honestly think the sword combat is the best there is (well for 1v1 at least) . Great job and I hope your dad is doing ok.
Thank you for the kind words! You are a great man and I wish you all the best. I am proud, that the game made your life easier in such hard times. ❤

Losing everything you had and starting over with Henry was such a perfect escape for me and eventually I, like Henry, learned to be my own hero.
Wow that part at the end was very heartfelt, hope you're a little feeling better now
I might to get on this game before then
Urgh, dislike Skyrim greatly, love KCD
That description is so freaking wrong and so very unfair. Skyrim feels like a cheap, garish children's toy in comparison. KCD is for adults and history nerds instead of fantasy geeks or the traditional gamer
Is it wrong to love both Skyrim and KCD lol they're both great at very different things.
@@BaconDrive perfectly reasonable. taste can't be argued about :)
If KCD is a 9/10, I'd place Skyrim at a solid 7 personally.
@@Bassalicious Listen, i played skyrim for years.. but thats with mods. Base skyrim is barely a 6 imo.
More of this guy PLEASE, Matty make it happen❤
KCD2 will be the first game I preorder since RDR2. KCD, at least until the second game is released, remains my favorite RPG of all time and I'm willing to risk a preorder on Warhorse. They've shown that they listen to their fans and genuinely strive to improve and do the right thing, from pricing to bug fixes.
KCD or rdr2?
@@replayers5354 kcd2 will be the first game he preordered ever since he preordered rdr2.
@@soleo2783 thanks for pointing that out but I was asking him which game he preferred between them because I have played rdr2 but not KCD
@@replayers5354 ah, gotcha, that wasnt clear
@@soleo2783 Ok I was probably high at the time tbh but do you have an opinion on which is the better game instead?
Downloaded it today. Gonna start my adventure tomorrow. Thanks for sharing something so personal. I'll pray for you and your family.
So?How do you like the game?
Well done! This is a very nice video / review / experience you have shared with us. I'm just lost for words. Thanks.
Fantastic video. So hyped about KCD2, i have to jump in to the first before it releases.
You’re really great at this, Lock. This was a fun watch!
Sir, you are great narrator. And you have such a good taste in games!
Introducing Danny, while he sits on a toilet, saying he's got big ideas and large ambitions, is pretty GD funny.
Lock, your editing and writing is on point. I want moooore!!!
Great story about your dad and how personal it was to you. I can’t wait for KCD2
💛
Great video ! I hope you and your pops are doing well💙
Lock, please read me bed time stories, and tell me it's going to be okay. What a chill voice!
No offense to Maddie but I like listening to your content. I'm old and like old games. I also gotta admit I've grown found of how deep your voice goes om almost ever end syllable of a sentence.
Thx!
None taken! That’s why we brought Lock in. He can do many things I can’t 🙏
Incredibly underrated channel
Great History lesson and I’m glad your doing well KCD2 is my second most anticipated game now
Thank you for sharing that story. I just started this game and its making me feel like the first time I played Oblivion. I will be savoring every second of this first playthrough
Lock, this video is incredible! Glad you are doing uploads now too. This is great.
Such a great game. I definitely gotta replay it before the sequel drops later this year.
This was an epic show of love for KCD and I’m all for it!!
Just started this game on Lock’s recommendation, I love it! I’m slow moving because I’m pretty new to properly playing rpg’s, I tend to play them like action adventure games.
I don't know who Matty is, but this video was dope! Subbed.
Lock is awesome, great video. Awesome addition to the channel
Discovered it in 2019 when i was living in the barracks in the military. definitely help keep me sane. One of if not my favourite game ever.
Just bought this last weekend it was on sale with all the dlc for 4.00. Had it on wishlist for a while. Going to be jumping in it next weekend.
Haha me too. What a great deal. Now all I need to do is get through the 3 years or so of backlog so I can play it.
Great video Lock, looking forward to more of your euro/pc gaming perspective in future RR videos
I have yet to see a comment on the Numa Numa song in the bg being played on lute?
I played through kingdom come deliverance four years ago on my Xbox One X and everyone around me thought it was a weird game and I could never really describe to them why I loved it so much. Now I realise why I did, the IMMERSION. No other game truly made me feel as though I was IN the world, honing my skills, getting stronger, smarter. Playing KCD will always be a highlight of that year.
beautiful review! I agree with every part of it. Will be replaying 1 soon 😊
Have the game and want to play it as well. Also, ty for your personal story. I appreciate it greatly. Love the video, sir
Damn. What a review. Especially that last bit with the personal connection. Take my sub and ill be getting this on sale
I just got this game off of steam last weekend for $7 with all dlcs. I love it!! Still learning the combat but boy is it fun to explore in the game too! Just make sure you take food with you so you don’t die of starvation like I do 😅
I just started the video but please tell me Lock will be frequently showing up, he's so charismatic
Amazing review video and history background thank you
Seriously Lock, i cannot wait for more of these eps!
KCD has won my heart. I can't wait for KCD2.
It’s not just good it’s fecking amazing and very immersive.
I can echo that sentiment, but with different games. When I was a teenager and into my 20s, I was having a terrible time. Bullied and lost in a world I didn't fit in to, I don't think I would have survived it if it wasn't for video games giving me a chance to escape for a while. Still here and still loving video games.
Just finished my 4th playthrough, still finding unique dialog. One of the best games ever.
Be well.
Bought this game yesterday and looking forward to play this over the weekends!
I had this game in my steam library for almost 2 years before I downloaded it just bcs i didnt have anything else to play. Few hours in and i fell in love with this game. It can be clunky experience but damn worth playing it. Not for everyone tho.
Oh sweet, this is my first retro rebound
The difficult combat makes it feel much more realistic. Every success in this game feels well earned.
U telling me that my 2 favorite games had to so with the same guy? Masterfull
I think it’s a great game but I also think fans have such respect for the effort put into the game which pushes it higher. Buzzing for the second one
I totally did not know master Dan Varvra actually was a dev for mafia, man that's such a good game, maybe not to this day but the remake sure is.
I really like Lock in these videos
Im soooo glad you did a video on this i just recently heard about this game and want to check it out !
