How to install a factory spoiler on a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

  • Follow along as I install this spoiler. Unless you can track down a drill template, this may not be something you want to do yourself. But if you're feeling brave, you can see how I did it. Saved myself about $300 over what the dealer wanted ($269 for the spoiler on eBay, free install vs $550 to buy it and have it installed at my dealer).
    You'll need a 10mm drill bit and a good drill. Also a 10mm wrench and 10mm deep socket/ratchet to tighten the nuts in the middle.

    Pretty scary to drill holes on a brand new car. You did a great job and made it look easy. Thanks for sharing.

    You’re the only person on TH-cam that has an actual tutorial on installing the spoiler. Thank you for the time you took to make this video very much appreciated!

    Hey, you bought from the dealer I used to sell for. Congrats on the new ride, and thanks for the video!

    Great video! The spoiler looks very nice. Right now I'm trying to replace the map lights with LEDs. It's not as simple as previous Corolla models.

      any update on that? what kinda tools did you use for that? and did you replace the dome lights, trunk lights, and license plate lights too?

    First off, I just want to say that you have a lot more nerve than me and made it look a lot easier than I thought! I just bought an XSE hatch in smoked paprika as well, love the car... BUT! I just wanted to let everyone know that as a DISCLAIMER, the the back hatch is ONE piece! Oh boy was it a nightmare, I ended up taking it to the dealership to get the spoiler installed, who would've thought five holes were that hard to drill?? Well, they drilled four of the five 1/2" too low, awesome. Measure fifty-two times, cut once!! After waiting hours for them to come tell me they f-d my brand new car up, they inform me of the "whoopsie." The dealership made it right (I guess), replacing the $1,600 hatch, painting the hatch, waiving installation, and lending me a rental for a week while it was fixed (and also adding a few scratches in the bumper). All in all, I'd pay the $105 to install the spoiler if you're unsure of where to drill!
    Great video and you could definitely get a job installing them at my local dealership!

      I actually used to have a job installing these kinds of spoilers at the port. I’ve installed tens of thousands. This was the first time trying without the stencil. Hah.

    I bought the spoiler myself as well. Found it at another Toyota dealer that just shipped it to me. Believe I paid 245$ for it. At that time 4 months ago. The paper template was back ordered for months. I think that was around 25$. You would think they would include the template with the spoiler itself.

    I just bought a Corolla last night.... I’m dreading this, my parts gut does have a part number for the template-so that’s handy. Spoiler changes the looks completely

  • @saucetinsoars

    Thank you so much for this video! Confident I can do this myself! Is there anything attached to the screws? It looks to me like the preinstalled screws on the spoiler just drop into the holes and dont connect to anything, and it's the tape that is holding it on? It doesnt look like there is a way to get under there and put a few nuts on the back side since this spoiler sits on the factory spoiler. Is that correct? What could I do to be sure it doesnt come off when driving down the interstate? Thanks in advance!

    • @1ManWrenching
      @1ManWrenching  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, it comes with nuts. There’s an access panel you can remove that gives you room to get in there.

    does this spoiler go over the stock spoiler? or do i have to take off the original? looks like it mounts right on it?

    • @1ManWrenching

      Yeah, it mounts right onto the stock flat “spoiler” bit.

    is the 2019 spoiler compatible with the 2020 corolla hatch? i bought a 2020 hatch and received the 2019 spoiler, im never to drill holes just to find out its not compatible. The odd thing is, the template (sold separately) says its compatible for the 2020 spoiler as well as 2019. But then the parts site says the 2019 spoiler is not compatible w/ the 2020. Im all confused

  • @W0LV1E45
    @W0LV1E45 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does it add performance or is the spoiler merely cosmetic? I really want to add it on my factory ordered corolla but if its only cosmetic then its not worth it.

    • @1ManWrenching
      @1ManWrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s only cosmetic. But man does it look better with it.

    So I got mine but it didn’t come with any bolts or anything just plain 3m tape. I think because I got it from Japan and the company try to just to a glue on type of thing... but it came with holes so I’ll have to figure out what size bolts to get

    • @1ManWrenching
      @1ManWrenching  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yowch. If it’s the stock one, the tape is just to keep it from rattling. Without bolts, it’d tear right off the first time you get up to speed.

    part number PT29A-12195-TL is the drill template www.toyotapartsdeal.com/resources/installation/TPD/18_MY19%20Corolla%20Hatchback%20Rear%20Spoiler%20(DIO)%20IssB.pdf

    • @1ManWrenching

      Utter crap that they sell it separately. You just need a piece of paper to lay over the top of the door with crosshairs to center punch for the drillbit. I’ve done thousands of spoiler installs and never seen one come without a paper template before.

  • @robob221

    Um...I see the dealer option for this spoiler at $350. So if you want it just get it upon leasing or buying the car.

    • @1ManWrenching
      @1ManWrenching  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great option if you can get that. I couldn’t. And I paid a fair bit less than $350.

    I just got a 2019 with the rear wing, I am not a fan, wish mine didn't have it, can't remove I'll have five holes in the car. Too bad... It was a great deal on a CPO... Love the car, hate no Android Auto, and big wing...
