I installed an Injen CAI on my 2020 hatchback - a bit raspy so I put a TRD intake on. Better sound. Also upgraded wheels/tires, put a front lip & rear spoiler. My first manual transmission - very fun to drive. But just broke my right shoulder in a bicycle crash & wont be shifting for many many months crap. Put the stock parts back on and sold it to Carvana boohoo. Going to buy the GRMN version when it comes out in 2022/2023 so I figured I’d get more of a trade in $$ now rather than then. Still sad though. Such a fun car!
I have since pulled it off because of weather and partially CEL’s. They were intermittent but also I have their full header/midpipe/catback so I didn’t put it back on cause I can’t really hear the induction sound over the exhaust. Maybe I will now that the weather is nicer. Still dealing with intermittent CEL’s with the exhaust setup. But the only way to solve that is a tune.
The engine itself could probably handle it but I don’t know how much power a turbo would add. It’s got a pretty high compression ratio. Other thing would be the transmission. Not sure if anyone would go through the effort to boost one. I mean if I weren’t at all concerned about warranty then maybe .
Pretty much any modification won't inherently void a warranty but if something fails and it's determined that the mod is at fault, then it would not cover repairs related to that damage under the warranty.
So I'm here before 100subs... don't make sense. Anyway, Joyride I just bought this car but I cant apply a CA Intake since I live in PR and deep puddles are common . However I can't wait to see what else you keep posting and doing to your car and others!
I do have the mesh covering on my air filter. It won’t protect against super deep puddles but in the Pacific Northwest we have our fair share of rain and so far I haven’t had any issues. Thanks for the kind comment!
@@Joyrides where in the Pacific northwest? I live just outside of Seattle and myself!! ALSO I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU..... First of all do you still have this car? Second my uncle had picked up a 2020 Corolla SE himself and he wanted to do an intake as well but for fear of sucking up water here with how much it rains we decided to do something a little different So obviously short ram intake are usually hot air intakes but we went with the K&n that comes with a heat shield and then the air duct that goes down to the front grill that actually feeds are directly to inside the heat shield BUT NOT JUST THAT.... We wrapped the intake tube in the gold reflective heat tape to help keep intake Air temps down as well BUT ALSO....... We decided to do upgrade the air ducts with the new veloso tech Big mouth air duct that they make for this car so not only does the intake tube have the gold reflective heat tape to keep intake Air temps down but then we also have the heat shield and then also that big mouth air duct that pulls are and hooks directly to the heat shield to feed are to the filter So I'd say it's probably the best way to have an intake if you don't want to run a cold air for fear of sucking up water and don't want just a typical hot air short ram intake so it's kind of the best of both worlds!! BUT I'D REALLY LIKE TO KNOW if you still have this car man or if you end up selling it or trading it in because I have some other questions that my uncle would like to know because he would like to do some other mods next like cat back exhaust header and a few other things and I would really like your opinion on them
While I had them installed at a shop locally, they said the headers bolted right up and were a perfect fit. They do affect the sound of the exhaust significantly and it sounds pretty good. May have to look at a defouler potentially for the added flow but idk for sure since I got the whole kit.
@@Joyrides interesting! Because so far I have the TRD intake with the Borla catback exhaust and vibrant resonator, I’ve heard from the 2J that the header works with the stock Midpipe so hopefully it fits, do you think it’s wise if I do a res delete with the header or just keep the vibrant resonator with the header?
Haven’t heard someone do a resonator delete with the headers yet so I’m not sure there. It does match right up with the stock midpipe. They made it so you didn’t have to have the whole kit if you just wanted specific pieces to work with the stock components.
@@Joyrides awesome! Do you think the headers are worth it? Because they don’t have it now, you have to pre-order and wait till end of December. Also I was thinking about to keep the resonator because if I do get a header it might be loud and super loud if I do a res delete. So I think the resonator could come in handy with the new headers
You mentioned being in the PNW! Where at? I'm in Kitsap County, WA. I got a Black '21 Nightshade Hatch. Bout to install RSR Superdowns, too. -also, this video's quality is great.
Nice! We are over on the east side of King county. I’ve thought about some RSR springs myself but still on the fence about ground clearance with our roads out here.
@@Joyrides how isn't the same engine tho?? I think it's the same it only ads the electric one here in Europe. Look it up please becouse you know things more than me. Please
It did feel like it had a little more power. It’s not a ton more power but it was noticeable. 2J Racing has a dyno sheet on their Instagram with numbers for the intake and some of the other parts for the Corolla Hatchback.
It’s been a year how’s the intake? Did u move on from it? Or still have it on? I’m interested in getting it but all I’ve seen on TH-cam is somewhat bad reviews on it. Please help?
It’s currently not on the car but it’s more that I live in a very rainy place so CAI’s aren’t a good idea year round. I haven’t had many issues stemming from the intake. My issues now have been the exhaust kit with an O2 sensor code from the emissions sensor.
Also, it looked like you misspelled your last name. Like, it looks weird. Like, it's missing a vowel or something. 🤔 I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm kind of excited to see what to do next. I just got a 2019 Corolla Hatchback XSE.
I’ve seen one person try a turbo but it was a custom setup that didn’t do much. The Corolla has really high compression so it doesn’t do much for the cost. Haven’t seen a supercharger and definitely no kits for it.
Hey joy it’s me again, so ima get the headers but do you think the mid pipe is worth it? So far my oem midpipe I change to a vibrant bottle resonator and I expanded the res outlet to fit my 2” Borla catback, it’s definitely better than stock now but do you think it’s better than 2JR or recommend getting that in the future?
I would t know for sure how it would compare but the larger diameter midpipe has been pretty nice from 2J. As long as your catback lines up with the stock midpipe it should be fine but maybe send 2J a message and ask if it would work.
Hey man. Big fan of the build. if you don’t mind me asking, how do you think the 2J performance mods compare to the mods that companies like Remark/Injen/Toms offer? I was originally steering towards Remark for my exhaust but I just noticed 2J offers a package that includes intake, midpipe, catback, and headers for a solid deal. the only thing that worries me about 2J is the installation process and some of the problems you encountered, also there isn’t a lot of other content creators posting videos on how these mods run/sound. Would love to hear your opinion on all of this if you have the time. Also cant wait to see a video on the rest of the 2J build!
I’ve had my struggles with check engine lights but 2J has been very responsive to discussion and working towards solutions. I will say that it’s not a direct comparison for the entire kit because no one else makes headers or a midpipe for the Corolla, which is now where the majority of my current issues lie. But when comparing the catback and intake they are just as good. I’d try going with their resonated catback since mine does sound a little raspy with the headers and midpipe but overall I’m happy. I just have to work through a few pain points with the headers and midpipe.
@@Joyrides So you’re saying the check engine light issues come from their header/midpipe? If I were to just get the resonated catback would I run into any issues? I was considering just getting 2J’s exhaust
I honestly don't like this intake. The look and design of it is just so off putting. Doesn't look clean. It's just wonky and takes up alot of space for little benefit. I just went with the Injen intake. Small boost in power nothing crazy, looks a million times better and actually enjoy the sound..
The original filter that Toyota installs on that car is probably the best filter they carry. I did this in the early days too. With all respect. This is pointless. You may as well have done some cosmetic mods. That would at least make a difference. Nice channel though. Thumbs up anyways...
Has there been a check engine light 💡 since you installed the 2j cold air intake
