Saltmarshes, birds, sea, chicken & dumplings, sore foot and a defrocked vicar !! All mixed in with getting old, a beach camp and Sy's inimitable style/music ! Brilliant as always and not a virus in sight !!! Thank you, Simon !👌
Good old Ernest, a fine example of another great Irishman. I recently visited the house he was born in located in Co Kildare, Ireland 🇮🇪. An excellent read Simon well done and regards from Dublin.
Been looking forward to this for so long! Weybourne has a special place in my heart. Last year I asked my partner to marry me on Weybourne beach, silly lass said yes 😂 We sat on the beach after, enjoying the sound of the waves and I couldn't have picked a better day, the sky was huge, beautiful and blue. Its a wonderful place. Who says men can't be romantic 🤔🤣
I visited Winterton last September ''2021'' and loved all the walking, stayed in a lovely cottage for 7 days along with my daughter and her dog, we visited places like Sheringham and Cromer and just walked and walked. I did live in Yarmouth when I was in my late teens back in the 80's, we also visited Yarmouth but that was the only day we had rain but I still noticed a massive difference from the 80's till the present, shame really. From near Glasgow myself and have a lot of history with Blackpool and sadly that town is the same now. AnyWHO - I know this upload is a a couple of years old but just wanted to say thanks Simon, I have always battled with depression and watching your uploads along with a few others I always really appreciate the time and effort that goes into them, they also help me through some of the deeper darker days. Never tried the wild camping but it does look really appealing and you have educated me on some nice places along with some other very handy various tips. Thanks.
Thanks Gary! I’m so glad you are enjoying the series - some lovely walks along the coast! Mind you, you’ve got some spectacular scenery up your way too! 👍👍
Sorry about the camera. Thank you so much for sharing the adventure. Reading the comments of your followers is true entertainment for me, the words used, probably not at all unusual to you, are to a constant source of interest to me. English to an American, sometimes so different but so familiar and ultimately understood, in context; it’s beautiful to read. Your followers are kind and have a genuine sense of humor. Watching you silhouetted on the berm, drinking from the tube from your well provisioned pack, the salt marsh below you, the plain stretched out for miles behind you, made me wonder about English Island history. I wonder what it was like for the first people there, no built up berm, no paths, no towns? Your videos are terrific and distracting, just wonderful. Thanks again... Texas
Thanks mate! I often wonder the same - our part of the island has a deep history, having been inhabited since the Stone Age - huge amounts of history - it would have looked very different back then - this part of the country was mostly under water for a start - our dense forests which covered most of the island long since gone.
So nice to be taken back by you to such a special place. We camped on the campsite at Stiffkey and the tide silently crept in during one afternoon on the other side of the boundary vegitation. It was very strange. No sound. More power to your elbow. Simon.
Thanks Simon for allowing me to walk the Norfolk Coastal Path from my bed. Absolutely lovely. Apart from a love of nature, solitude and walking, we have two more things in common: a painful top of the foot if shoes are slightly tight, and flooded DSLRs... I did mine in through a few hours’ of taking photos in the rain. It cost £350 in repairs.
I was expecting a monty pythonesque french quote at 13 mins 52 Simon lol, the wife and I were out this way in our camper in April lovely bit of coastline from Hunstanton round to Cromer which we hadn't been to for many years and forgotten just how nice it is, interesting footage on the Norfolk coastal walks series. ....well done
Simon, if your camera doesn't revive I'd be willing to chip in to defer the cost of a replacement. I'm sure there might be others, too. Thanks for another brilliant half hour of scenery and entertainment.
Thank you Johnny - that is very kind of you! The camera is all sorted now (I found a well priced second hand replacement) I will get the old one repaired. All back to normal again! 😁👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods Good to hear, Simon. I know we all really enjoy your channel and there are probably quite a few that would help out if need be. Glad it's all sorted. Can't wait for part two (of part three).
Trust me Simon a man putting up a shelter is nothing compared the the odd stuff I have seen on that beach 😂 always love watching your vids, this one even more as it's my back garden. All the best. Rob
Just spent a whole rainy and stormy day here in Dallas Texas watching your videos, from Peddars Way to Sweden and from the North Norfolk Coastal path to Dartmoor. Feeling very inspired for when we spend our summers in retirement on the Norfolk Broads! Your videos are a wonderful mixture of information, history, adventure and great tips on the safe way to enjoy and survive whatever nature has to throw at you. Thanks again. John and Lynda
Gangster priest! What an absolute lad! He makes Keith Richards look tame. Brings back fond memories this section. Probably my favourite part of the coast path. Glad to see you back out walking it chap.
Thanks Simon! Watching these videos for the third time and definitely helped me get through the pandemic. Who would have thought 12 months after this was uploaded we would still be in Lockdown?
I know where you’ve been. It’s wonderful around the north Norfolk Coast. Not far from home for me and a perfect place to escape for a night or two. ;-).
Well made video, so much thought has been put in to make these, not only in the filming, but also in the editing. Well done Simon. At 12.34 mins when you were packing up, as you walked of, it looked like you'd left something on the ground, looked like a map. I called out but you seemed to ignore me
SoooO good to revisit all this coast. I’m extremely envious that you’ve managed a wild camp in these areas. I hate campsites as they’re just too noisy!
Well , let’s see, first I like to say thanks for your hard work making these videos. The camera shots are amazing , the places you go are absolutely beautiful . Like I have said before ,you are my eyes to see the other side of the world , thank you so much . I enjoy your videos so much I always can’t wait for the next one. Thanks for the history lesson of the area , those places were Beautiful. The Beach is the first one I have seen with rocks like that . I love the look of the buildings , the wind mill and the ww2 history of the place . Thanks immensely , Simon I hope you and your family are doing good , stay safe from all the sickness going around . Cheers and ATB ! Until next time.
Brilliant mate, thanks for showing. I Grew up in the late 1960’s and 70’s spending every summer on that coast. The Eastern wind is bloody cold, straight off of the North Sea. Even in 1976 the hottest summer for 40 years everyone on the beach had a wind breaker to hide behind to stay warm. Fantastic place 👍😀
Nice video Simon 👍. That was a trex and a half 😯. Great information along the way 👍. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves, is so relaxing 😊. And that, sunrise 👍
Great video as always. I guess you drank the Land Rover kool aid. As they say I drank the VW kool aid. I ve been a VW tech for over 20 years now and I probly enjoy wrenching on my vw's like you wrenching on your Land Rover. When I first started in the automotive industry I worked on a couple defenders they were pretty old from the 60's I think the top speed was 55 mph. Very cool and quirky but hard to find parts. You are a true man of many trades and are a professional at it. Thanks again for your videos I look forward to watching them .
The right to roam, and the freedom to sleep in the wild (aka wild camp or just camping if you're a Kiwi like me!) are essentially human rights. Sure, don't set up in people's yards, don't trample fences or walls or attack vegetation or disturb any creatures and --- light no fires, but....do it and enjoy it. Leave no trace. Always carry a trowel to dig a hole when you shit. Be discrete and respectful. Don't flash lights about (red light is best at night) and give your position away. Your connection with that tiny piece of land will stay with you forever. Thanks Simon.
Around 20 mins in where you have a problem with your camera and you are concerned about setting up camp.... You said 'bit weird' I just wondered why???? spent loads of time fishing and foraging all along North Norfolk over 30 years 😊 I like your videos and enthusiasm, informative history and interesting content 👍 good luck to you
Great to see you back on the trail once more. how our wonderful coastline changes, some silt up ,some recede, and some disappear forever.. Britain is such a diverse tapestry,. Oliver Rackham, makes great reading. as does Mr Shackleton.. cant wait for the final part thanks
Sorry about y our foot and the camera! Maybe the wind will have dried it out and it will work again! LOOOOONG hike! Thanks for taking us along! I've been reading a lot of the other comments, and you definitely deserve such a loyal following!!
Great views of Norfolk and awesome video your videos are awesome Simon I watch them over again they are great see you on the next video Simon take care.
Had to smile when you said joys of getting old, because that's exactly the problem with my knee. I regularly walk at Wells and Holkham. I definitely going to do a bit this walk soon.
Fantastic video! Very nice experiencing one of your great English walking trails through your work here. You put us there. Hope your camera and foot have recovered.
I'm cooped up in my room and your channel is the window to the world for me-i enjoyed this immensely- sorry about your foot and the camera-I hope they both get fixed !
Hi Simon, Brilliant video as always. I have walked this section many times, making use of the Coasthopper bus to get back to Wells. At 3.00 you walk past a large tree trunk. I always stop there for a brew with my trusty Trangia, it's the only seat for miles. I hope you get your camera sorted out. I can recommend WEX in Norwich (no affiliation) if all else fails. I am patiently waiting for the next instalment. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! That is a nice spot to stop! I managed to find a replacement (second hand) for a good price, so I’m all back to normality again and I’ll try to get the old one repaired. Thanks for the recommendation! 👍👍👍
Fantastic video as always, Simon! Honestly... words cannot convey how much I enjoy watching every single video you put out. Thanks for making every one of them... cheers! :-D
Nice video! I love the Norfolk coast! And luckily Wells is the closest town to me. It is strange the rules regarding camping on the beach, hundreds of people can (and do) sleep there in a beach tent all day in summer, as long as its daylight or its illegal. The trouble is (as always) a few irresponsible people camping and having fires, breaking glass etc spoiling it. They usually Bury it and it comes to surface a few weeks later. I often camp out here, but always take away more rubbish than I bring. Anyway, thanks for sharing! And keep them coming 👍
Sorry to hear about your camera, Simon. Great job at capturing the rest of your experience to share with us. A lesser man would have given up and gone home at that point.
A stunning part of our country’s coastline here. Glad the ankle is doing ok but shame about the foot. Real nice tarp setup, hope you were warm enough Simon. Many thanks, Ant 👍
Hi Simon, guess when you went back for the camera, you spotted the deliberate mistake and picked the map up as well. Well spotted. I saw it at 16.35 mins.
Great little video, will watch the next one tomorrow, last year we walked from Morston to Blakeney, was a nice little walk if a little busy, wasn't keen on Blakeney too many weekenders from London in their Chelsea tractors.
I hope you don't have a hairline break in your foot. What a bummer on your first walk. I want to thank you for tolerating the pain because I love your walks.
Glad to see you back on the paths. I so enjoy your videos. Your voice is soothing and you are so down to earth. Thanks for your efforts and keep having fun! I bought a Kelly Kettle because of your recommendations.
Lovely video Simon. Holidayed as a kid on the East Anglian coast so lots of familiar sights and sounds. Managed a quick visit to Cromer last year but in 35oC heat! Beautiful part of the country.
Wonderful Simon. That's a part of the World I don't know, yet is familiar, as it reminds me of where I grew up on the Wirral, in particular Parkgate/Neston. Looking forward to pt2... Thanks for taking us all along. Trust the camera recuperated. Cheers Wayne
Fairly new as a subscriber but you have become one of my favorites to watch! Thx for sharing the adventures and experiences. Glad to see you at it again, be well.
Very cool video,I would so love to do that .I know that area well we live in Braintree and we often go there with the dogs for a weekend.Hope you get the camera fixed .
I haven't been down that neck of the woods since the 1990's. Maybe I should make more of an effort. I always did fancy a night under the stars on the Tidal Island not far from the Wells-next-the-sea RNLI boat house. I love your videos Simon. Please keep them coming and stay safe........
Thanks so much, I really enjoyed the scenery and your wonderful filming. I'm an artist and I wondered whether you would mind if I had a go at painting from a couple of screen shots from some of your walks? I would of course credit you, but If not no worries! Take care and stay safe :-)
Its amazing see the history yall got over there and the shore changing is really interesting. Bummer bout ur camera hope u get it fixed. Great video brother
Hi Simon Sweet little video love the factual content it just shows that there is more places to explore along the route rather than just pounding the path.. hope that foot doesn't give you too much trouble...and what no hot chocolate.!!? 👍👍😀😀
As always, I thoroughly enjoyed your company, Simon. Your camera is serviceable. Doing it promptly is the key. You could have used stronger boots, especially over loose rock and carrying a load that would make a mule weep. It is always encouraging to see your smiling face, especially when facing adversity. Not just a bloke but a good bloke. Your book, South, is a good one. The challenges faced by those men made me feel very grateful for what I have. One sentence I recall expressed the longing for broccoli while enduring a scant diet of just fish and meat, for months, on end. PS: There is one small typo in your video description where you list the villages on the hike. I believe you meant to say Blakeney rather than Brancaster.
Thank you!! And thanks for the typo spot - I’ll get that fixed! 👍👍👍 Yes, my boots are a bit softer than I’m used to - I bought them specifically for this walk as they are light. They give plenty of support and the midsole is rigid enough I think, aside from the top of foot injury, my feet were nine the worse for wear after the walk. Superb read isn’t it - what an amazing feat of human endurance and survival. 👍
Hi mate, thanks for this, I enjoyed every second of it, but then I'm biased! I grew up in Cley next the sea and worked for 12 years as a self-employed bait digger out on Stiffkey marshes. The Norfolk coastal path is raw nature at it's best with something fascinating to see every few steps. There are not many places that gives you a 360 degrees horizon quite like North Norfolk. I also spent hours fishing the shingle beaches and it can be a tough walk on your calves. It is said that every mile you walk on loose shingle is the equivalent of 4 miles on a hard path. Also, the legendary giant shaggy dog "Black Shuck" walks the shingle at night. With his glowing red eyes and bad reputation, he's thought to be a hell hound. Many people have reported seeing him, even in modern times, but it's a few hundred years since he's said to have attacked anyone. Keep up the good work mate. Louie.
Thanks Louie, A great place to live and work!! Absolutely stunning like you say. The beach was a tiring walk - I was lucky with my timing - that but of wet sand mixed in with the shingle made a huge difference! Glad I didn’t have Black Shuck snuffing about during the night!!
Fantastic vid Simon, hell of a difference in weather from last year. Try some heat treatment for your foot. I made a heat pack from tubigrip. Cut a 1ft length sew one end then fill will pearl barley or wheat if you can get it, sew the other end. Once done place in microwave for a minute or two and place on your foot when bearable.Keep the pack it can be reused many times. 😊👍
About your last video, Simon a bbloke in the workshop... great addition to your title ! Very nice workshop by the way .Made me envious , but really, my workshop is not that bad so I shouldnt be. Yours looks so organised and clean though... Nice video an demonstration, I wont enter your give away, I will make my own after your model! I also have some ashwood in my storage, and some oak, will check it out for pieces to use. really inpirational. The bag is another matter, I inherited a sewing machine when my wife passed away 10 years ago but had still not had time to try it out. Tentipi make some nice bags in canvas for the pole (a five piece center pole) that might work fine, I have one for my tent, will check it out. Thanks
Great walk Simon - nicely filmed too. Sorry to hear about your camera - hope its salvageable. Re your foot, I use Meindl boots - currently using the Bhutan MFS and they're great - extremely comfortable - food for thought. ATB - Chris
I'd also have to check whether the problem was in the foot first before jumping to buy more and expensive boots! I would not always assume it is the boot that is the problem, especially as we get older aha!
Nice to see you back on the walk Simon. I did the first half of it last year up to Cromer and I’m hoping to do the rest down to Suffolk soon. Great vid, keep it up!
I would love to know why 4 people dislike the video and who they are , I dont get it , it's not like you make content that polarises people its calming content that's always great to watch. Theres only one video of yours I couldn't watch and that was your very first review video of a rucksack and that's only because there was music over you talking and It scrambled my brain a bit but even then I didn't click thumb down. Ah well just know that the vast majority of your subs appreciate what you do Simon , would love to see more camps in the Baker tent , a man could live in that almost permanently if it was pitched next to the river.
@@stevewillshere1161 All of Norfolk is sacred in my eyes , I used to go there on holiday every year with my nana and grandad as a child, we stayed all over the place , Yarmouth, Wild Duck in Belton , Potter Heigham was my favourite, quiet and tranquil and I spent all day fishing from the side of the bridge competing with the herons 🤣 I know it's not on the coast but we used to drive out to different locations on the coastline for the day , cromer, caister lowestoft etc , great memories.
@@aw4483 I know that it's just baffling to me , I understand people getting a ratio of up and down votes when they make polarising content like political content etc but on camping and adventure videos I'll never understand it , people like Simon and Andy put a lot of work into the content they create.
One of my favourite walks which I do a few times a year as I live in Norfolk. Sadly inaccessible at present as we’re all on lockdown, therefore great to see your vlog to remind me
Hi Simon, did you have to use different pegs to pitch on the pebbles/sand? I'm doing the NCP solo next week & hope to wild camp, I have a Lanshan 2 Pro which uses hiking poles, I wonder If normal stakes will just pull out the ground? X

Cheers Paul!
Yes, even at that little spot beneath the cliff, there was rubbish everywhere.
Take care mate.
Sorry to hear about your camera, Simon. Great job at capturing the rest of your experience to share with us. A lesser man would have given up and gone home at that point.
Nice area! Love the rocky beach. Great place to set up a shelter. Lovely!
A stunning part of our country’s coastline here.
Glad the ankle is doing ok but shame about the foot.
Real nice tarp setup, hope you were warm enough Simon.
Many thanks, Ant 👍
What a speed you walk at I'm tired just watching and it was lovely to see the beautiful mountains and valleys of Norfolk ;)
There’s a real Norfolk mountain in part 2 - Beeston Bump - a staggering and dizzying 63m above sea level!! 😲
Stunning scenery, top notch video. Please hurry with Part 2 ❤️
Thank you! It’ll be up on Wednesday. 👍
awesome hike,very relaxing video
Hi Simon, guess when you went back for the camera, you spotted the deliberate mistake and picked the map up as well. Well spotted. I saw it at 16.35 mins.
Thanks for taking us along Simon, hope your foot recovers quickly. Look forward to part 4!
Fabulous what a great series this has been so far.👍
Great little video, will watch the next one tomorrow, last year we walked from Morston to Blakeney, was a nice little walk if a little busy, wasn't keen on Blakeney too many weekenders from London in their Chelsea tractors.
Often the case in the fairer months!! 😔
I hope you don't have a hairline break in your foot. What a bummer on your first walk. I want to thank you for tolerating the pain because I love your walks.
I hope not too! It’s still really sore, I think I’ll wait til after this Corona thing has blown over before I get it checked out!
Your adventures are awesome. God bless and safe travels 🙏🏼⛺️😎
Glad to see you back on the paths. I so enjoy your videos. Your voice is soothing and you are so down to earth. Thanks for your efforts and keep having fun! I bought a Kelly Kettle because of your recommendations.
Thanks Sherry, hope you enjoy the kelly kettle! 😁👍
Thanks Sherry, hope you enjoy the kelly kettle! 😁👍
Did you leave your map behind Simon? you put your rucksack on then walked away - hopefully went back for it. Loved the priest story.
Great video as usual. Looking forward to Part 2. Hope the foot is better now.
Fabulous! An excellent example of Self Isolation. Simon, I know this area well. I go bird watching and Ham Radio here. Many Thanks, Martin
Fairly new as a subscriber but you have become one of my favorites to watch! Thx for sharing the adventures and experiences. Glad to see you at it again, be well.
Thanks Vince! 👍
age comes at a price luv the channel
Where I live Simon, it’s more a question of looking out to sea and saying, “I remember when this was all meadows”.
Nice video.👍
It’s like that along much of the coast further along - whole villages lost to the sea!
Another great video Simon, I look so forward to your videos keep up the good work.
I’ve had an eye on that island too! One for the list!! 😉
Thanks so much, I really enjoyed the scenery and your wonderful filming. I'm an artist and I wondered whether you would mind if I had a go at painting from a couple of screen shots from some of your walks? I would of course credit you, but If not no worries! Take care and stay safe :-)
Thank you Lois!
Please do, I’d love to see them when they’re done - any chance you could message me with a photo?
@@simonablokeinthewoods Thanks so much, I'll be in touch! Have a great weekend and thanks again
Its amazing see the history yall got over there and the shore changing is really interesting. Bummer bout ur camera hope u get it fixed. Great video brother
Hi Simon
Sweet little video love the factual content it just shows that there is more places to explore along the route rather than just pounding the path.. hope that foot doesn't give you too much trouble...and what no hot chocolate.!!? 👍👍😀😀
Thanks Phil! I saved the hot choc for lunch the next day. 😁
Thank you Simon, the North Norfolk Coast is my favourite place to visit in the UK.
Yes, my boots are a bit softer than I’m used to - I bought them specifically for this walk as they are light. They give plenty of support and the midsole is rigid enough I think, aside from the top of foot injury, my feet were nine the worse for wear after the walk.
Superb read isn’t it - what an amazing feat of human endurance and survival. 👍
Glas the knee is mended.
Great vid and great landscape......
Thanks love!
You at your best, looking forward to the next installment. Thanks for making this 👍
Bloody hell Si I loved this walk and the wonderful views and I thank you for the broadcast 😁👍
That was sweet such great camera shots and quality of filming nice job.
Hi Simon. I used to go cockle foraging on Stiffkey salt marshes when i was a kid some 45 years ago!
@alan bane 🤣🤣
Every time I see English salt marshes in your videos I think of _Great Expectations_. I suppose this video's a sign that it's time to read it again 😊
It’s a good read! Your Mountain House meals are still very much in use - the box that just keeps giving!! 😁
@@simonablokeinthewoods 💜 so glad you're enjoying them! Some are a bit bland but you've got the solution 👍🏻
I think I just ate the tastier ones first! Thank you so much Kimberly - you are a diamond! 😊
Louie.
Thanks Louie,
A great place to live and work!!
Great idea - thank you! 👍
About your last video,
Simon a bbloke in the workshop... great addition to your title ! Very
nice workshop by the way .Made me envious , but really, my workshop is
not that bad so I shouldnt be. Yours looks so organised and clean
though... Nice video an demonstration, I wont enter your give away, I
will make my own after your model! I also have some ashwood in my
storage, and some oak, will check it out for pieces to use. really
inpirational. The bag is another matter, I inherited a sewing machine
when my wife passed away 10 years ago but had still not had time to try
it out. Tentipi make some nice bags in canvas for the pole (a five piece
center pole) that might work fine, I have one for my tent, will check
it out. Thanks
Thank you! The workshop in the video is my place of work - not mine (unfortunately!) My home workshop is much more bijou!
Good luck with the build! 👍
Great Video, appreciate the info over placename pronunciations and the history at Wiverton as the Blakeney Circular Walk is on my to do list.
Nice to see you back on the walk Simon. I did the first half of it last year up to Cromer and I’m hoping to do the rest down to Suffolk soon.
Great vid, keep it up!
Me too! Enjoy mate. 👍
Enjoyed this coastal walk series. I used to swim in the “lagoon” at Holme when I was a kid back in the 70s/80s. Know the area quite well
Lovely as always. Your camping spot is where Gareth and Zoe held there rave when the birds were nesting. Glad you went low impact. X
I haven’t watched that - sounds.....noisy! 😂
So relaxing and informative. Keep up the great work !
Great video and thoughtful commentary. Walked some of the same coastal path last year and hope to do more when back in Norfolk in May.
thanks for sharing you have made me think of another national trail. I’d I’d South Downs last year. Would love to do a coastal route.
It's absolutely impossible to have a 100% upvoted video because of bots; TH-cam doesn't' give a damn about it
They probably dont realise how sacred the north Norfolk coast is .wonderfull relaxing place. the best medicine there' is.
@@stevewillshere1161
All of Norfolk is sacred in my eyes , I used to go there on holiday every year with my nana and grandad as a child, we stayed all over the place , Yarmouth, Wild Duck in Belton , Potter Heigham was my favourite, quiet and tranquil and I spent all day fishing from the side of the bridge competing with the herons 🤣 I know it's not on the coast but we used to drive out to different locations on the coastline for the day , cromer, caister lowestoft etc , great memories.
@@aw4483
I know that it's just baffling to me , I understand people getting a ratio of up and down votes when they make polarising content like political content etc but on camping and adventure videos I'll never understand it , people like Simon and Andy put a lot of work into the content they create.
Thank you and thank you all! Some people just do, because they can I guess - it doesn’t bother me at all. 😁
One of my favourite walks which I do a few times a year as I live in Norfolk. Sadly inaccessible at present as we’re all on lockdown, therefore great to see your vlog to remind me
Hopefully won’t be TOO long before we can venture out again! 🤞
Hi Simon, did you have to use different pegs to pitch on the pebbles/sand? I'm doing the NCP solo next week & hope to wild camp, I have a Lanshan 2 Pro which uses hiking poles, I wonder If normal stakes will just pull out the ground? X
