Mr. Simon fabulous walk about from back the church. I love the rain, have a wonder if ya could show off the dehydrator and how to use videos' for anyone interested in prepping their own meals.
Hi Simon, found your channel through a search for a new sleeping bag. And now, subscribed and almost binge watching all your videos. You are a patient teacher, good storyteller and craftsman in many areas. Fortunately, I still have many videos to watch and enjoy each one. Greetings from Holland

A great video Simon. A friend and I are planning on doing the Peddars Way and possibly the Norfolk Coastal Path over the course of several weekend this spring/summer. Any tips on general areas to look at for overnights?
Hey Simon, long time watcher, just watching your hikes again as i really enjoy them from the US. I am curious what the book you were reading in your hammock was? Also I'd love to be able to do the pedders way someday, my homeland!
I attempted to walk the whole of Peddars Way in a single day. I'm not particularly fit (17 stone middle aged man) but have a strong will-power. I wasn't sponsored or anything like that, I just wanted to challenge myself - and certainly did It rained at the beginning of my journey and because of the wet tall grass, my boots got soaked through and never dried out. My feet started blistering on the badly rutted paths and I was forced to quit at the road intersection at T20:07 in your video (part 4), I was absolutely gutted being so close to the end. My little toes on both feet had blistered so badly that the skin was rolling around on them. Around a month later I tried again but starting from the other end at Holme-Next the Sea. Other than a stop at the Budgens in Castle Acre for lunch I only stopped briefly to patch up any hot spots on my feet and set off again. Around 12 hours in, my feet started blistering but this time I just kept going, my walking pace dropped off a cliff. I arrived in Knettishall Heath at around 11.30pm, walking through the pitch-dark forest with a headtorch. It took me 18 hours to complete the whole journey and it was gruelling, but one of my biggest ever achievements. I'm now thinking about doing the coastal path, its a similar distance, so studying your videos closely for tips and to help me decide if I want to do it. I'm also thinking about getting a tent and cooking equipment and having a go at multi-day hikes, perhaps along Angles Way which handily you also have video for.
I’m 45 and finally just starting to go on my own little adventures on a regular basis.. your videos are definitely helping me with some of the common problems I might face and helping me to think ahead and prep. Thanks for doing what you do bro. Can’t wait for more!
Engaging video . I like learning about all this camping paraphernalia. There's nothing like being out in nature . I think you're brave wild camping on your own. 🌚👍
Cracking video Simon I like your gifts especially the under blanket cover never thought about one of them it makes sense to use one looking forward to part two hope you are well atb jimmy 😎 😎
Cheers Jimmy! It was such a generous gift! The u/q protector works really well, keeps the wind off, holds everything in place and traps a bit more air - it scrunches down to the size of a tangerine too! Atb mate, Simon
Hi Simon I know this is three years later so I’m sure you probably won’t even see any of this but I’m going back to see the ones that I’ve never seen before now that I am subscribed on your channel. And the first off is I would’ve taken some of those well blackberries and brought them back to your camp and put them in boiling water let them sleep for a while, awesome tea
Am on episode 4 and going to finish up with 5 which on TH-cam is a miracle. So glad to see it to the end in a few hours. Great series, beautiful scenery, and good information about the trail. Great photography. Thanks, Simon.
Brilliant video Simon, enjoyed the information about Norfolk and loved the munching on berries. Good work on making the water shortage manageable...water is heavy. Thanks for sharing and look forward to Part II. Maggie would not have liked not having lots of water. Really nice job.
Cheers Chris! Really glad you enjoyed it mate. Check out Tinny at Minibull Designs - it’s one of his stoves. Great little thing, I’ve had a few pop can stoves over the years, this one the best by far! Atb, Simon
Nice walk and camp Simon, guess it would have been too much for Maggie. Wouldn’t fancy my coffee out of an unwashed cup with the remains of curry in it. I always use the Water to Go filter system, it’s quick and simple just like me. Cheers Simon and I’m awaiting part two. ⛺️
Thanks Simon, looked very similar terrain to the Sandstone Trail up here in Cheshire. Im new to your channel so that was the first video I watched so dont know if you have the grill adaptor for the Honeystove.. used it a lot this year and made some cracking camp meals with it.. a tasty one in this video👍 th-cam.com/video/WhVLhXT09y0/w-d-xo.html
Haha - very underrated is fishy noodle water! It - it was that disgusting orange drink that spoilt it! I learnt from my mistakes on that walk - you can’t necessarily rely on water sources - next time I’ll carry more! Thanks David, Atb.
@@simonablokeinthewoods Sadly, increased abstraction of water from the ground for irrigation and livestock (unheard of when I was a kid, when irrigation was something I only knew the meaning of from geography lessons - particularly telling as my father was a civil engineer working for the Essex Rivers Authority) have taken their toll on surface water availability in the UK, and particularly East Anglia. The Environment Agency, with the loss of all the local knowledge that went along with centralising such things, have much to answer for in that respect, as they issue the abstrction licenses. Lack of objections to developmeent on flood plains have also reduced absorbtion of water, as it is mostly regarded as a problem to be got rid of via (now overloaded) drainage, and wasted out to sea even when it doesn't create flooding problems where none used to exist.
Great walk, thanks for the vid. I stealth camped at the bottom of your hill across the road.. I got my water from the house behind you, in 1994 it was owned by a grumpy retired doctor but i got three litres haha.
Another great instalment of the Peddars Way Walk. Lots of good tips and information there Simon as ever. Liking the water filter, see how you get on with it after a few months, I have a Katadyne hiker pro, and I have never had a fault with it, but I do look after my kit, and my kit looks after me 👍 Good to see you out again, eagerly awaitng the next instalment. ATB Dave
Cheers Dave! Yes, the filter needs some more use and abuse really before I can properly comment on how good it is, but the principle is good - it’s also got a nifty system built in whereby it simply stops delivering water when the filter has reached the end of its life. Also made in UK, which I should have mentioned. I’ll do a proper review once it’s had some more use! Atb, Simon
Awesome video of such a beautiful walk, Simon, almost like being there with you to share your journey. I love Norfolk although it has been many years since I was last there for many wonderful holidays. Looking forward to watching part two. Take care...
There are great videographic moments interspersed: the wonderful variety of wild berries; the juxtaposition of a traditional windmill with an electric generating fan. I have enjoyed learning about every step of the peddlers' way. Alas, no Holy Water and no water in a Baptismal Font! What Denomination might such a Church have been? They certainly didn't cater to Pilgrimages.
Still watching them mate! Lol. We've made it to Anmer minque near houghton Hall, couldn't find anywhere to wild camp so called up a small campsite we passed earlier in the day and they kindly came and picked us up and for a fiver each are camping in bivvy bags in their garden! Plus we get bacon sarnies delivered to our bivvies in the morning! Haha! Got about 11 miles left. That 4 mile road of death from castle acre was awful! We've just been knocking on doors asking for water and it's worked fine. Great video mate. Will watch the final part tomorrow night when we camp at holme. If you're free you're more than welcome to join us for a camp if it's not too far for you. Atb Tom.
Superb mate - made good progress - yes, that bit after castle acre is a drag isn’t it!! Nice of those folk to come and pick you up - good service! I’ve camped at Anmer Mink before - there’s a little woodland to the west near the path that ain’t too bad. Hope the last leg went well! 👍😁
Excellent video as usual Simon. You make walking look so simple... I can hardly walk the length of myself!! 😂 I had a funny feeling that after lunch drink wasn't going to go down well lol! Looking forward to the rest of your trip... Cheers 👍
Haha - cheers Robert! Yes, that drink was rank! It wasn’t so much the fishy curry aftertaste as the artificial sweeteners - I can’t stand the taste of them! Next episode should be up early next week! Atb, Simon
Nice one. Another very enjoyable video. A breakdown of the kit you took and rough weights would be interesting. I'm planning on doing some long distance trails in the near future.
Cheers Colin - it’s a beauty! The fire rope primer is brilliant and it’s stuffed full of carbon felt which absorbs the meths and regulates the burn. Great stoves -check minibulldesigns stoves here on TH-cam. Tinny, who designed and makes them is a real character!! Atb, Simon
Cheers Nicki! We share a lot of history between the uk and Denmark - the style of burial being one of them - we have lots of barrows, circles and structures that have influence from Denmark and Norse culture. Makes history interesting!! Atb, Simon
Thanks for sharing your journey with us Simon. I'm interested to know how much water you were able to collect from your tap run, off will you be sharing that with us on the morning of Day 2?
Cheers buddy! And huge congrats on the 2k subs! I got about 400ml during the evening - which you saw in the video. The rain overnight was disappointing - I got another 200ml or so. It’s a great method of collecting water - you just need the rain haha! Atb, Simon
@@simonablokeinthewoods Thanks for the congrats Simon much appreciated. I remember collecting water off a tarp in the jungle, we are able to collect litres and litres in 10-15 mins such was the rainfall! Keep up the good work buddy 👍
Hi Simon Great video Nicely shot and put together , I can beat the worst tasting beverage, I boiled a large pot of tea one morning in the woods , poured myself a cup, drunk that poured another and noticed what I thought was a twig or pine cone floating in it, fishing it out it was a well boiled slug...nice.... really stoked the bits and pieces are getting used dude , hope the uq kept you warm enough...later mate
Simon, a bloke in the woods hi Simon Really glad it’s being used mate...I’ve now been in Scotland now for 9 days and it’s rained every day so no lack of water here ...catch ya later mate
Thanks for the videos would be great if you made one of you doing the new English national trail all in one hike no cheating like I’ve noticed you doing by just doing sections on nice days you have chosen then come back a few months or year to do the next section.
Thank you and thanks for the sub! The Peddars Way is a great footpath - the best trail in the area in my opinion - there are loads of good spots along the way for a crafty stealth camp which is useful when walking the route. I always try to arrive late and leave early, and adopt the usual ‘leave no trace’ approach, I’ve never had any problems but obviously, it’s not without risk - the land either side of the path is all privately owned or forestry commission. Have fun! Atb, Simon
Cheers Jason! Great read, Stu Barber sent me a copy and I’ve chatted a bit with Dave - top bloke! Hopefully going on a canoe trip to Stora Le next year, inspired by the book! Atb, Simon
Sounds fantastic Simon, Stu barber what a legend!!.Ill be seeing Stu next week for a catch up and a brew .Like a say Simon keep the videos coming , very enjoyable to watch ,gets the bushcraft juices flowing ..... Jason w
Those tinned fish energy drinks are great aren’t they. Nasty man! I’ve chatted to Tinny at minibulldesign for years, nice to see some of his gear over here. I used to make loads, but my self priming meths lamp took my eyebrows off so I eased back on that :) Nice vid Captain.
Glad they've got some better signs now. I went from knettishall to Holme in a day on my bike. Used a brand new Brooke's leather saddle. That was 11 years ago. Still sore.
Great video. I love the peddars way. I believe there is a sizeable pond in fring. but like your streem it may have been arid due to the great summer we've had. Judging by the trees benind you you may have camped in sedgeford plantation or dovehill woods. My guess is sedgeford. What a lovely spot. great shelter from the hill raising from the SE. I've not compleated the way yet but thats set to change in Jan as I've signed up for the peddasway ultra. Hoping to do it in 10hrs so no stealth camping for me. We have to carry mandetory kit to support ourselfs for 13miles stages which is no problem but I'd like hot food. Do you know if dehydrated food cook in the self heating bag. Have you ever used then? I love you idea of light weigh dehydrated food it ingenious. Cheers for this great series. keep them coming.
Thank you! It wasn’t quite as far as sedgeford - I was in a wood just off the trail and literally a stones throw from the northern tip of fring - a beautiful spot indeed!! I’ve tried the army flame less ration heaters - work really well - and I’m told the civi vertion is pretty good too - a good bet for your upcoming challenge! I know somebody else who’s talking g part in it too. Good luck!
It's a good thing, but I don't like liquid fuel. I used to use gasoline Primus, but switched to gas. As well as using homemade stoves for wood chips. One classic, made of 1 liter stainless mug. And the second more serious, made according to the original scheme of one inventor, called "UFO burner". th-cam.com/video/x9QHcgrmQDA/w-d-xo.html
Another excellent video Simon! I think that despite my rather adventurous culinary nature, I'll give the curried sardine coffee a swerve! How you suffer for your art. I do believe that you are mistaken with your identification of the Muntjac call. Sounded more like Jenny Greenteeth on the prowl looking for a husband. Stay safe out there! Al
Cheers John, the stove is packed with carbon felt which absorbs the meths, so if you extinguish it before it’s empty, the felt kind of holds the fuel. I didn’t have any leakage issues - it was just loose in the lid pocket of my pack. Probably better in a dedicated container though! Atb, Simon
Always fun to tag along, from the comfort of my living room. How about some info on your cameras. How much of your kit weight is cameras and accessories?
Thank you! I carried my main camera (Canon 700d with Rode Videomic) fixed to its tripod in my hand the whole way, swapping from one hand to the other as fatigue crept in - I had to do that as I was stopping to set up shots etc very frequently. My GoPro was strapped to a chest harness and I packed batteries etc in my pack. So I didn’t count it in my pack weight. 👍
The hammock looks nice too may invest in one yet? Im always on the run!! Need to keep a low profile nice n stealthy approach this camp was very little impact!! On surrounding enviro or anyone would know if you were there!! Idea nicel Lightweight option too! Walking like this even on easy terrain burns up stacks of kilojules of energy & calories so yes youll feel knackered alright?
Perfect for a sneaky stealthy wildcamp! And like you say very little impact! Mine isn’t the lightest setup, but it’s comparable to a tarp/bivvy bag combination setup but more comfortable!!
Nothing worse than a water crisis late in the day. I always kept a spare empty water bottle when cycle touring, then fill it late in the day if i was wild camping.(if i remembered) Me and a mate are gonna attempt to cycle the pedders way in a single day next weekend. how many anti cycle gates have you spotted? Gary.
Wish I’d taken a spare bottle - I did consider taking my dromedary bag, but ditched it at the last minute to save weight - ha! You’ll be fine on bikes buddy - I’ve cycled it several times, some stiles and kissing gates along the way and an up and over bridge, but nothing you can’t carry a bike over. Good luck and have fun!
Enjoyed your latest Simon, thanks for taking time to share it with us. Two questions if I may. What camera do you use and did you pass many people en route? Thanks mate. PrepComms UK
Thank you! I use a Canon 700d as my main camera with an external Rode microphone and a GoPro (an old hero3). As for people, yes, passed a few - sections are used by dog walkers and people out for a stroll, met two on bikes who were doing the whole trail over two days. Definitely not crowded though! Cheers Simon
Which model is the hammock still a frontiersman dd or other? Tarp too as that looked nice too ideal match up the 2? Complimentary colors for dense foliage camo concealment ideal!! This tarp in shade would virtually disapear if not sillhouetted! The low light emmision spirt burner to Enables this too this type of low impact camping brings you closer to nature ops for local wildlife too As proven bye the variety of hungry hunting animals on thisl soundtrack!! (Simon excluded of cse!)
Yes, it is a DD system - DD frontline in Coyote brown, DD 3x3 tarp in green (although I do have one in brown too) homemade whoopie slings, Henge Hammocks tree huggers, Dutchware titanium marlin spike toggles, homemade (not by me) goosedown underblanket and protector, Mountain Equipment skywalker sleepingbag.
Cheers John - the earlier sound - like a bark, was a muntjac deer. Later, at the end of the video were owls - a barn owl I think and possibly a little owl (birds are not my strong point haha!!)
Hi Simon, do you have a rough idea of where you’ll camp, from looking at map/satellite images or do you just wing it and see what looks good on the ground on the day? (I’m a hiker who’s recently got into stealth camping and haven’t combined the two yet. Love your channel, probably the best of all the outdoors/camping channels I’ve seen.)
Thank you! I generally have a rough idea - I always spend time looking at maps before a trip - it’s a part of the planning that I really enjoy! I’ll look for spots that might be good for a camp and then see what’s it’s actually like when I get there - sometimes it’s ideal, sometimes I’ll find somewhere else. 👍
Ack! No Maggie 😕 Simon, what was that prickly looking thing around the 6.08 mark? Was it a horse chestnut by any chance still in it's casing? Also, was wondering what the red berries were at the 21:55 minute mark. Nice looking sleeping kit. Great video even if Maggie was missing. 😀
The prickly things are sweet chestnuts - not quite ready yet, but it’ll be a good year for them! The red berries are haws from the hawthorn. The walk is just too long for Maggie - she can manage 8-10 miles, but no further, she’s a lump and struggles with distance - a shame, I’d have liked to have her along! Atb, Simon
I thought so, I was on the same course. I have been watching your videos for a few weeks thinking I know that face! Anyway keep up the videos, take care Marcus.
MAW Adventure Outdoors - Haha! Well, that is a coincidence! Good old Wapping! Never really did anything related to Geography haha, I taught for a bit, but design and technology, not geography! Now I’m a carpenter! Still got my Global Geomorphology text book though. Atb mate, Simon
I, like you, have not used the Geography Degree. Instead I moved into people management and I have remained in this sector ever since. Funny that you mention Geomorphology as I have kept the text and it is still one of my favorite words. ATB Marcus.
I hope you don't run into Black Shuck! (Shameless display of local knowledge :-) ) I was interested to see the number of flints on some of the tracks - possibly their presence supports the idea that the Peddars Way is or originated as) the trading route for those flints from Grimes Graves which were also traded south-westwards along the Icknield Way, and is of similar antiquity (even older than the Tumuli you remarked on, although bronze and neolithic ages overlapped by some considerable period).
Cheers Phil! Haha, not even a sighting!! Lots of flint along the way, probably a remnant of the Roman road built along the same route, although as you say, the route dates back to Neolithic times. I’m planning a bike ride along the Icknield Way for later in the year (probably not to film. Sometimes it’s nice not to have to worry about the camera all the time!)
Thanks Robin! I will check that out - sounds interesting - it’s such a good way of collecting quite a lot of water very quickly (assuming it’s raining haha!) cheers, Simon
No, can’t afford Fjallraven smocks! Hundreds of squids!! It’s a Paramo Velez smock - good old Paramo directional - best waterproof system there is (ventile excluded! But then I can’t afford that either haha!)
@@simonablokeinthewoods im ordering some factory seconds olive green ventile 23oz 154cm cut on the width on the yarn Have an idea to copy a no1 fjallraven smock with a few sas smock extras thrown in!! But my chief machinist has just mutinied after the making of my tent!! Which is still partially unfinished!! You just Cant get the 88yr old staff these days!! I shall have to buy a horse whip start laying down the law to get anything done arounds here!!
@@simonablokeinthewoods im thinking of making a pair of ventile walking pants too with gosseted crutch reinforced knees etc Inner ankle areas but ive heard ventile can go very stiff when wet So last thing you need is to be walking like frankenstein whose cakked his pants in a rainstorm with 5miles still left to go and you cant move yer legs for stiff rigid ventile cotton goes sets like cardboard when wet! Can be stiff until worked in weatherised
Cheers Paul! I’m not actually sure what it weighed but I cut down the weight as much as I could with the kit I have. I may do a load-out video of what I took - I’ll weigh it then!! Atb, Simon

Are you allowed to simply walk on a piece of land and just camp there without asking permission? I mean it's not like it is recognized a campsite by any means, now is it? In my country it is called trespassing and you may be fined for this transgression.
As I’m sure I’ve said before, I’m really enjoying these series, and finally Simon gets rained on...lol I’m interested how you done your ridge line inside the hammock did you swap the shock cord that holds up the bug net?
Haha - it always catches up with you! The elastic is still there on the outside, I just ran a length of paracord inside between the two wee loops at each end of the bug net - works a treat for hanging stuff, like you socks or book etc.
Hi Simon, not camping related, but my good lady says you need to get those eyebrows trimmed a little, personally , as long as you keep posting videos I dont' really care
@@simonablokeinthewoods no, don’t touch those eyebrows! I enjoyed seeing them, you are usually wearing your wool beanie over them. Your eyebrows add so much to your smile. They add such character to your facial expressions. You make me smile so often while watching your videos.
Hahaha! Felt pretty flat for most of the walk! A bit too long for Maggie, bless her - she can do 8 or 10 miles max - then she needs to sleep for three days!

Cheers Mike! It imparts a certain mysterious bonus to the flavour, I think! Atb, Simon
Nice video, Simon, I've been enjoying this series. Thanks for sharing, take care.
Thanks buddy! The last instalment should be up in the next couple of days. Atb mate, Simon
Wonderful video Simon. Thanks so much for sharing - looking forward to the next instalment.
Cheers Thomas! Atb, Simon
Looked a good walk that.. nice to see you using the Honey Stove. I love mine!
Cheers Joss! Great stoves, love mine - versatile and lightweight. Glad you enjoyed the walk! Atb, Simon
Thanks Simon, looked very similar terrain to the Sandstone Trail up here in Cheshire. Im new to your channel so that was the first video I watched so dont know if you have the grill adaptor for the Honeystove.. used it a lot this year and made some cracking camp meals with it.. a tasty one in this video👍

Cheers Joss! I’ve got the mesh grill that came with it - used that lots for cooking - I’ll take a wee peek at your vid later on - cheers!
Looking forward to this after dinner.
Cheers Colin! It’s a lesson in not skimping on the water! Atb, Simon
awesome vid man...fair play with the water conservation efforts and drinking the noodle water. top man!!!!
Hahaha - well done with the water score! Good wild camp spots along the way. 😁🏕
Cheers John! I count my lucky stars every single day - very fortunate to live here. Atb, Simon
Haha - I know - the church was well and truly locked! Not sure what pilgrims from days of old would have had to say about that!!
Great series mate
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Atb, Simon
A nice Upgrade would be installing some water faucets along the path .
Great one, really looking forward to the next.
Cheers! Won’t Be long! Atb, Simon
Great video Simon, you have a great hammock set up there. ATB Bill
Cheers Bill - worked well! Atb, Simon
Love the videos simon. Keep them coming 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Daren! Atb, Simon
Excellent video as usual Simon. You make walking look so simple... I can hardly walk the length of myself!! 😂
I had a funny feeling that after lunch drink wasn't going to go down well lol!
Looking forward to the rest of your trip... Cheers 👍
Haha - cheers Robert! Yes, that drink was rank! It wasn’t so much the fishy curry aftertaste as the artificial sweeteners - I can’t stand the taste of them! Next episode should be up early next week! Atb, Simon
Hi simon
Great video!!
Where did you get your pants!! They look like they would be very useful.
Thanks
Nice one. Another very enjoyable video. A breakdown of the kit you took and rough weights would be interesting. I'm planning on doing some long distance trails in the near future.
Cheers Roger - a couple of people have asked about gear and weight etc - I think I’ll do a kit video if that would be useful? Atb, Simon
Absolutely mate. Look forward to it. 👍
I really like the pop stove mate.
Atb, Simon
Nice one Simon. I can can tell you that Norfolk looks exactly the same as Denmark. Low countrysides and lots of barrows here too.
Cheers Nicki! We share a lot of history between the uk and Denmark - the style of burial being one of them - we have lots of barrows, circles and structures that have influence from Denmark and Norse culture. Makes history interesting!! Atb, Simon
Love your channel Simon but what's wrong with artificial sweetener and curry?
Hi Simon
Great video Nicely shot and put together , I can beat the worst tasting beverage, I boiled a large pot of tea one morning in the woods , poured myself a cup, drunk that poured another and noticed what I thought was a twig or pine cone floating in it, fishing it out it was a well boiled slug...nice.... really stoked the bits and pieces are getting used dude , hope the uq kept you warm enough...later mate
Simon, a bloke in the woods hi Simon
Really glad it’s being used mate...I’ve now been in Scotland now for 9 days and it’s rained every day so no lack of water here ...catch ya later mate
Thanks for the videos would be great if you made one of you doing the new English national trail all in one hike no cheating like I’ve noticed you doing by just doing sections on nice days you have chosen then come back a few months or year to do the next section.
Simon, have you done a video on how you made that dried turkey dinner? Would love to know how to do it!
Hi Maggie! Yes, there is a video on it - scroll down a bit, it’s there! 😁 Atb, Simon
Just subscribed as i live local to this and it intrigued me,great video :D you have inspired me to try wild camping around here.
Have fun! Atb, Simon
As always simon great video, I noticed you reading paddles and polar bear bread 😁great book dont you think , keep the videos coming ..
Jason w
Nice one mate, well done 👍🏼
Cheers! It was a nice walk! Now for the Coastal path! Atb, Simon
Those tinned fish energy drinks are great aren’t they. Nasty man!
I’ve chatted to Tinny at minibulldesign for years, nice to see some of his gear over here. I used to make loads, but my self priming meths lamp took my eyebrows off so I eased back on that :)
Nice vid Captain.
Haha - sounds like you had a close shave! He’s a character isn’t he - love his stoves! Atb mate, Simon
Glad they've got some better signs now.
I went from knettishall to Holme in a day on my bike.
Used a brand new Brooke's leather saddle.
That was 11 years ago.
Still sore.
Haha - yes, they take a bit of breaking in dont they!! 👍
Good luck!
Great vid Simon, top man !
Cheers! Atb, Simon
Or even better I would love you to do the Scottish national trail all in one hike
Excellent trip. I have a just in case alcohol stove but I prefer a twig stove.
Cheers Abe, me too, unless I’m too knackered! Atb, Simon
And how long does it take to boil 500 ml or 1000 ml of water on such a burner?
Thanks, I didn’t time it, but as an estimate I’d say 4 minutes to boil 500ml - pretty fast for such a tiny stove. Cheers, Simon
not bad. Don't you use gas stoves?
TheFastmozg - sometimes, but I prefer the simplicity of a meths burner with a stove I can also burn wood in. Gas is quicker though for sure!
Al
Hahaha - now that is a scary thought! Mind you, she might at least have led me to a decent water source haha!
Cheers Al!
A magical walk. I completed part of in 1994.
Cheers Stewart! Indeed, a showcase of the best of Norfolk’s countryside! Atb, Simon
Simon, when using that small stove what do you do if you dont use all the fuel up if its full? how do you put it out or where do you store it?
Idea nicel
Lightweight option too!

This idea is for when you next get booted out your own house onto the peddars way! Get yer own back!!

Nothing worse than a water crisis late in the day. I always kept a spare empty water bottle when cycle touring, then fill it late in the day if i was wild camping.(if i remembered)
Me and a mate are gonna attempt to cycle the pedders way in a single day next weekend. how many anti cycle gates have you spotted?

Thanks Jonas! The last instalment is now up! Hoping to continue on another trail next year! Atb, Simon
Oh and what was the noise from during the night? Animal I suppose and if so what kind? Thanks for the great video as well Simon!!
Cheers John - the earlier sound - like a bark, was a muntjac deer. Later, at the end of the video were owls - a barn owl I think and possibly a little owl (birds are not my strong point haha!!)
thanks for the reply Simon keep the videos coming friend!
Atb, Simon
Simon, thanks for another great video. Did you study at University of Greenwich, Earth Sciences Wapping?
Well, that was a question out of the blue hahaha! Yes I did! Geography 1992-95! I’m assuming you were too?
(Shameless display of local knowledge :-) )
I was interested to see the number of flints on some of the tracks - possibly their presence supports the idea that the Peddars Way is or originated as) the trading route for those flints from Grimes Graves which were also traded south-westwards along the Icknield Way, and is of similar antiquity (even older than the Tumuli you remarked on, although bronze and neolithic ages overlapped by some considerable period).
Great video. Hennessey Hammocks do a water collection funnel and a standard water bottle fit on to it check them out on amazon keep up the great work
Thanks Robin! I will check that out - sounds interesting - it’s such a good way of collecting quite a lot of water very quickly (assuming it’s raining haha!) cheers, Simon
Is your smock another fjallraven simon? Looks nice i love this type of smock

Are you allowed to simply walk on a piece of land and just camp there without asking permission? I mean it's not like it is recognized a campsite by any means, now is it? In my country it is called trespassing and you may be fined for this transgression.

I’m interested how you done your ridge line inside the hammock did you swap the shock cord that holds up the bug net?
