The Norfolk Coast Path - Part 4. Weybourne to Cromer Pier.

  • In this video, I continue along the stunning Norfolk Coast Path on the staggeringly beautiful North Norfolk Coast. I set off from my overnight wild camp spot on the beach near Weybourne, past old world war two gun emplacements, anti aircraft batteries and coastal defences, up onto the cliffs towards the seaside town of Sheringham and finally onto the old pier at Cromer.
    Cromer marks the end of this leg of the trail, the halfway point. I have thoroughly enjoyed the walk so far, passing some of the most spectacular coastal scenery on offer in the East of England. Classic traditional seaside towns, ancient ports, sandstone cliffs, sand dunes, wide sandy beaches, salt marsh, reed beds, shingle beaches and yet more cliffs giving you a rewarding vantage point with views along the coastline - this walk has it all!
    I will return other day to continue the trail………….stay tuned!
    I would like to apologise for the deterioration in picture and sound quality during the video - my camera had an unfortunate encounter with the North Sea and gave up the ghost. I filmed the remainder of the video on my phone and GoPro, neither of which have good audio.
    I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

    Thanks Simon - another great video - just the ticket when we are stuck at home with Coronavirus shut down! BTW - the map booklet A-Z Norfolk Coastal Path / Peddars Way covers your route with OS 1:25,000 strip maps - I had your video, the map booklet open and a handy mug 'o coffee tracking your progress! Well done on sharing your walk!

    ...wow, that time-lapse start Simon - brilliant! The pack up is such a chore, and you need to be systematic as you show. I move a lot slower! Honestly, I take an hour each pack up! That said - in an emergency or heavy rain I can do it in 20 mins max. Stuff and go!

    Thank you Simon, I am thoroughly enjoying this series of walks, I have also been following your route on Google Earth on my second monitor. I am a great fan of this part of Norfolk and am very familiar with it. Although I live on the south coast near Hastings, I escape to Norfolk as often as my wife will let me free for a few days. I am approaching 77 now and am amazed at your perceived walking speed, I would be left way behind if I tried to keep up with you; about 8 miles in one leg is enough for me these days. I am looking forward to following you on all your adventures in the future, as a severe insomniac, you are getting me through the long and pleasantly quiet, winter nights.

    Great walk Simon, an area I know well and restrictions permitting, I'll be returning there again this summer. Just curious how the steam train at 6.47 sucks the smoke back into the smokestack...? 🤔Must be an optical illusion... 😉Atb, Paul.

    Hi Simon. Thanks for making another great video. In the clip where you were packing the tarp away I noticed the pegs you used looked to be quite wide and long. What make are they and are they specially designed for soft or loose ground? I camped on a beach last summer and tied the tarp guy lines to rocks because my pegs wouldn't stay buried under the shingle. It made me wonder what the solution would be if there had been no suitable rocks. Thank you.

    • @simonablokeinthewoods
      @simonablokeinthewoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris - the pegs are designed for soft sand and snow. Not sure of the make, but they coped well despite the blustery wind , they were inexpensive ones from amazon. 👍

    My tip for people doing this section (heading east) is to look out for Seaview Carpark or Seaview Beach Café at West Runton Beach and leave the official path there, instead walk along the beach to Cromer and reconnect with the Norfolk Coast Path later.

    Hello from Colorado - great video. I grew up in Sheringham and visit often. Walk this all the time. I'd recommend dropping down to the beach at West Runton, especially if the tide is out. Alternately, once you drop down the east side of Beeston Hill (bump) hang a right, cross the railway tracks, turn left on the Cromer road and just before the humpback bridge at West Runton take the dirt path headed south up to the North Norfolk Ridge and then follow the trails to Cromer. Its a wonderfully wooded walk.

    • @simonablokeinthewoods
      @simonablokeinthewoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! In my guide book, the path goes that way - through the woodland which I was looking forward to, but it seams the route of the path has been changed, to follow the coast - not sure it was the right choice! 👍

    The beaches are so Rocky in the UK it seems.. In the states there is alot more sand and less rock . Keep those feet in check Simon .. I'll see ya on the next one 😁

      There is a good mix of sand and shingle - I definitely prefer sand! 😁👍

    Another great Video mate, It's a shame that in maybe in less than a hundred years the path could disappear.

      True! So much has already gone - I’ll pass Happisburgh in the next section - very poignant!

    Thanks Simon, we are usually in Norfolk at this time of year but stuck at home due to lockdown. Your walks have really brightened up our half term but we are sad that you didn't mention Salthouse, one of our favourite places along that coast, or the mammoth that was found in the cliffs at West Runton. Looking forward to the next part!

    The only problem with the Norfolk coast is the sea has the colour of a blocked toilet.
