Isn't it amazing someone would create an entire series about the most horrific thing a person can experience, an experience that literally silences them, strips them of their voice and as a creator you make the EXACT SAME decision as their abuser. You take their voice away. Decide its your story that will be heard. You set the narrative. Just like an abuser.
For me those horrific stories should be known bc they are, unfortunately, the part of the fabric of our society. And I think that creators of this series did an amazing job with that bc they brought every perespective possible and let us decide. There was not a single angle narrative, they brought all possible angles, and it ended open and conclusion free. As this case still is. If the new proofs, which were not a part of the series, will lead to the re-trial and find valid, then the brothers perspective will be right one.
@@paneko1 It's not about showing different angles, which is fine, it's about not portraying characters in a different way than they are. In that sense, Lyle character is extremely distorted. The psychopath behaviour, the yelling, the cocaine... is all bullshit. The way he talks to Norma about the trial is completely changed. And as for the angles, they give so much screen time to the old man whose daughter was killed and his point of view, and so little time to the family corroborating the brothers were abused. Even the final shot was the parents being nice. There's a clear intention by Ryan Murphy in portraying the brothers as liars and treat abuse (never actually shown in the series) like it never actually happened.
I don't think Netflix should be allowed to do documentaries like this. When it comes to abuse, there are never two or more sides to it. Growing up in an abusive family and also, additionally being s*x**lly abused, I know that everyone sees the situation differently, every sibling, every grandparent, every aquaintance and every family friend. Thing is: They see the situation from what the abuser allows and wants people to see, which is mostly just caring, loving parents.
@@drinks_menu I did see it and it justifies the parents José for having been abused (there is no evidence and even his sister says it didn't happen), the nother cuz everyone hated her as a " poor little thing" and the brothers seemed to have a conscious incestuous sexual relationship (Lyle admitted to abusing Erick in the context of being a victim of prolonged SA)
@@CarolinaIbrahim you must have really poor media comprehension if you think the show took the parents side Also, there was one scene where the brothers dance together, that’s it. No other scenes involved a “conscious incestuous relationship” It’s okay to just admit you didn’t watch it
I don’t want to blame the actors for anything they just did their Job, the director and screenwriters are the one to question about it if we have any concerns and questions
They did their job and earned a lot of money portraying this family very inaccurately. Director did not even meet the real life brothers but he made millions off of their names. Sad.
They are great, but we know the truth. Menudo and Menendez brothers gives us the receipts. They were sexually abused by their father who left them maimed and an agonizing pain and they were psychologically abused. That’s not an opinion that’s a fact.

They really did. It’s important not to forget how very gruesome what Lyle and Erik did was. They really blew their mother’s hand off. They definitely needed to serve some time.
Chloe Sevigny & Javier Bardem were both excellent. Javier can really take it to another level. I'm still trying to get over No Country for Old Men when once again he was a little too good. :)
Two of my favorite actors. Unique and very diverse and both kind of have a cult following. Especially Chloe . Love her or hate her. I think she’s brilliant. They both killed it.
All my negative feelings about the making of this series aside, I Love Javier. he’s no stranger to playing a horrible person, but he’s such a sweetheart irl
This series would not make the public stand up and say FREE THE BROTHERS! The facts, evidence and horrific abuse they endured is why we want them free! They never should have been imprisoned, they should have received help for the torture they went through and continue to live with!
I think a big reason they went to prison, isn’t that they just killed their parents. It’s how brutally they shot their parents up. Also they killed their mom, who didn’t sexually abuse them. I get that she didn’t help them, but she didn’t deserve to die like that. Bottom line is they planned it out (obvious evidence), and you’re going to prison when you kill someone in that matter. In this case both parents. Again it was premeditated, not at the spur of the moment. The brothers weren’t being assaulted at the time.

The creators not wanting to involve the brothers (and even more importantly, the victims’ families who are still alive today) is what does not sit right with me. I’m honestly tired of Ryan Murphy.
It's funny that in some interviews they reffer to the Menendez brothers as the "boys" they are very grown up men now. I find this story sad and shocking. If the father really raped constantly to the brothers, more the younger one at the end, my opinion is that they already paid their debt to the society, more than 30 years in jail, it's bad that they killed the parents, but when a person is abused, you loose the sight of the reality and open a pandora box, where everything could happen, this parents created their attackers with their actions. More than 30 years in jail is enough, they should let them free. Of course i base myself in the fact that this brothers were abused since they were children.
So much respect for these actors, not only in this, but in many things they’ve done in the past, she’s definitely a favorite of mine she’s unusual and unique, and she has overcome so much in her life physically
I thought the reporter was visiting her onset and she had just had her make up done and was preparing to get into wardrobe. It definitely looks like a kimono or something.
Brilliant acting, tremendous series!! People need to understand that this isn't a documentary, this script pick up several points of view of a lot of people involved. This isn't about the brothers, it's about 4 people. And the story deserves to be told. And Ryan did an amazing job, as usual.
What come out in the trial was enough. I’ve never heard such horrific things for a father to do with their child. The monsters were the parents, both of them. Those men should be freed now, they’ve suffered all their lives. Let them be free.
Oh, and I think my biggest problem with the series was that it was showing scenes that just involved the brothers that did not portray events from the points of view that they publicly expressed. So these weren't their perspectives. Am I right? They showed them plotting out the murder a little more, they showed them behaving in an inappropriate way with each other, and these weren't told from other viewpoints. It was presenting as fact stuff that the brothers never said happened. So that's dishonest. An honest show would have told the narrative exactly as they presented it in court and then had other episodes that were strictly from the point of view of other characters. And I could be wrong, but I felt the series blurred those lines quite a bit, in an irresponsible way.
I think they did a good job of making us think we don't know what is true or not - at times Jose as a total monster, other lenses were he was just 'tough on the kids' , at time the kids were evil, but other angles they were truly victims. Excellent series, INCREDIBLE actors.
this is gross. to take someone’s life and write your own version? and the the actual people don’t even agree it’s accurate and your reaction is “they have every right to their opinion”… it’s more like “hollywood paid us a ton of money and we don’t care how we caused suffering to a whole family even more than they already been thru”… love these actors but come onnnn…. what a karma to ride off someone else actual life and you don’t even do it accurate? bleh. hollywood- bleh
It does not claim to be a documentary. It has dramatisations and aspects/views from different perspectives. Thats Hollywierd for ya. On the plus side the result of all of this publicity may get the brothers a retrial. For some insane reason in their last trial they apparently were not allowed to bring in the sexual abuse as a defence.
I completely agree. This is creepy. They were adults when they committed this horrible crime. And they are killers in jail. It’s really that simple. They could have moved out and make their own lives. Instead they chose to kill, accused their parents of horrible abuse and spent their money. The whole thing is so incredibly immoral.
@@VAPIDISM I agree and I loved the series bc I think that the creators amazingly brought all angles and perspectives. It wasn't a single narrative, as this case still isn't, which, for me, was exactly the point. The cast was perfect for all their roles. Before watching and knowing and living through the case, I was sure the brothers motivation was just greed, but after seeing Erik's account of the abuse I completely changed my mind and did a 180. Then seeing how the story changed again and evolved even more outlandish, I started to doubt the level of abuse again, and by the final scene it came back full circle to my initial gut feeling. What a roller coaster ride that was masterfully done. The part that really got to me was Dominick Dunne's apology to Abramson and his comment that he didn't know which possibility was scarier, that the abuse they endured was the truth or that she did a great job at coaching a psychopath. The only people that know the truth are Jose and Kitty, who are dead and Erik and Lyle who are fighting for their freedom. We will never really know the actual truth.
@@snu3877 I felt it was greed before and after watching the series. Seems like their story kept evolving after the fact and became more and more outlandish at times, which leads me to feel it was more of a desperate attempt to steer people away from thinking the overshadowing motive was greed. The series had me doubt myself at times though. What do you think their motive(s) were? Did you like how the story was portrayed in the series?
@@dotcomnsense I actually have not watched it. I did just watch the Netflix documentary, though, and find it interesting that the prosecutor thinks the story of abuse is "bullsh*t" completely fabricated by the defense attorney Leslie Abramson. (She also said, if I had been an unethical defense attorney, I would probably have done the same thing.) She claims that the boys didn't mention abuse until after she was hired as Lyle's attorney. I am not sure, though, how you explain their cousin saying that Erik (I think Erik?) came to talk to her about the touching, or others who mentioned it, like one of the boys' friends. When you add in the claim from one of the boys from Menudo that Jose raped/molested him, it all becomes very hard to figure out what is true. Also, it's hard to explain away those nude photos in an envelope with Kitty's handwriting on the envelope.
@@snu3877 The specific points you mentioned are pretty damning and don't sit well with my feeling it was just greed. I do feel there likely was sexual abuse, but I don't know if it was as extreme as the series "Monsters The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" on Netflix captured it. Not saying sexual abuse or any abuse in any capacity is okay but was it truly as Erik described it? If it wasn't then I don't feel that murder was their only recourse. That's just my feeling on it. The episode where Erik is talking to the Abramson and detailing the abuse---that broke me and had me in complete agreement with their choice to murder them. The other episodes depicting their outlandish and ever changing stories made me again think it was embellished though. With Erik being quite the actor and bragging about that fact it made me really question if he was just lying about the depth of the abuse to the jury and was coached by Abramson. It's a terrible tragedy if the level of abuse was that bad, and it's just as bad if it really wasn't. I'm going to go with my initial gut feeling since no one other than the brothers and the deceased parents are the only ones that really know what happened.
@@snu3877 The "Monsters" series was the writer's interpretation of what the brothers had claimed and their complete interpretation of Kitty and Jose's parts. That's what I really liked about the series because it left it up to the viewer to decide what they believed happened. if you haven't watched that specific series I highly suggest it.
Regardless of statement released by the brothers, this has just opened a huge DAM , an opportunity for better justice, a different outcome. The actores did an amazing job, kept it artistic and professional.

I get the sense that this series with Bardem and Sevigny tell the audience at the end: "The brothers are evil, there wasn't any sexual abuse, everything was made up, and they deserve to be in jail forever". While the new documentary, also in Netflix, tells the audience: " The brothers are good, there WAS sexual abuse, the second trial was unfair and they deserve to get released". That's 2 very different ways to approach all this. How about THE TRUTH? Where IS THE TRUTH? I think that's what we all would like to hear!
@@kv2723 We don't. That's exactly the issue. Netflix's dramatized version IS titled "Monsters", referring to the Brothers, (not the parents). At the end of the second trial, the prosecutor proved, point by point, that the sexual abuse angle had been all made up. The brothers NEVER mentioned the sexual abuse, even once, up until Leslie Abramson became their lawyer. She used the help of a sexual abuse writer to create their "narratives". At the end, it seems that the brothers not only killed their parents, but also their parents' reputations, which makes their crime even worse.
@@arturozapata6675I agree with you. I do not remember anything about sexual abuse until that lawyer came on scene. I also don’t remember seeing convincing evidence of this either. Child sexual abuse is heart breaking so why did the jury not believe them at the time of the trial? I’m not saying it didn’t happen but I am also not saying it did, although I do have serious doubts.
@@arturozapata6675So in your opinion, is it just a coincidence that the member of the Menudo band said Jose drugged and raped him? The sexual abuse stuff is so shameful to most people that people often choose to never talk about it unless they have no choice. Also, in the second trial, the judge did not allow testimonies of sexual abuse in the trial until the penalty phase. Some jurors said they would have not convicted of first degree murder had they heard that evidence.
@@emily43210 It is not an opinion, and, believe me, it is not a coincidence either. That Menudo guy is not known in the States, so I can understand you bringing him up. In Latin America, specifically in Brasil, he is very well known. He is a con man, as real as a 3 dollar bill. The man became a pastor in a church in Brasil and the legal and financial problems he got into are legendary. He's also VERY WELL known for talking, out of the blue, about stuff that is convenient for him $$$$. It is also a known fact that the brothers have been offering money to just about anybody that can say something that can help their cause. Coincidence? Maybe. I gotta tell you what else is not a coincidence. The fact that most "evidence" was not allowed in the second trial. That wasn't up to the judge. Most "evidence was "tainted" starting with the fact that before the second trial a book came out, (with audio), with recordings of Lyle admitting that he had lied about everything, bragging about how he fooled the jurors and could actually cry on cue. Him testifying about anything, (including sexual abuse) would've only worked against the brothers. The prosecution would have crucified him because of the book. I mean, this guy raped his brother... and then blamed the father for it? and we, as a society justify him for being a rapist? Because he was supposedly raped too? They were already adults. Eric was a professional athlete. A very strong man, and he was still being raped by his older, weaker father? People have to be very naive to believe that. Being adults, they could've just left. If the situation was really that bad, I know I would've gone with another family member if I didn't have money (instead of writing sad, fake letters). But noooo. Instead of leaving, (which would be a normal fear response) Eric opted for the wonderful idea of erasing their parents' faces with shotguns. So much for fear huh? Most real abuse victims choose the route of forgiveness. I'm all for justice, and I want to be fair to the brothers, but I also want justice for their parents, who cannot speak up anymore and defend themselves. They were probably awful people, but it's looking to me every day more and more like they were not rapists. So therefore, the brothers killed them twice, and they gonna get away with it because they will be out soon.
Why didnt the director not talk to the brother's first?? The director spoke to100 ppl allegedly for the flick. Should not be too surprising the brothers or any family members speak negative about the directors vision
I think impartiality is paramount for a project like this, clearly he was biased. By avoiding them he is absolved of connection, guilt as well as persecution from the public by distancing himself from them. Certain that he knew the direction he was going in with this so their input wasn’t necessary. In the end it’s fiction lowly based on a true story.

Watching this series i never for a second though the monsters references to Eric and Lyle. To me monsters were Jose and Kitty and thats what i took out of this story. Period And both of the actors playing Jose and Kitty were absolutely superb. Just incredibly moving in their interpretations.
Why is this interviewer asking "did you want to meet the boys"? Lyle and Erik are older than both of these actors. Everything about the promo tour for this show is embarrassing. These actors should be ashamed for exploiting real people's trauma and not even reaching out to the real people affected
yeah it's kinda fucked up that they were not involved at all... Definitely in 2024, you would expect the production to be more sensitive since it concerns real people and their very traumatic past... the actress does mention that it was a decision made by the creators of the show to not involve the brothers, so I feel like Murphy is to blame and not so much the actors themselves though
Or they murdered their parents in cold blood, there seems to be a general consensus they were abused/harmed at the hands of their parents. Only it could be untrue. The father could have been verbally and physically abusive and not what’s claimed… It’s a terribly horrific scenario anyway you slice it.
Nice to see actors who take an interview seriously and respectfully address the topic. I have gotten exhausted with the Blake Lively clips inundating every channel, and this was a breath of fresh air.
I don't think this is 100% shown and made as entertainment, but as a way to bring light to a very, very dark space in sexual abuse. A way of showing that these kinds of thing do happen and its really and not to be ignored or look the other way, but to have open and honest dialogue about it. Knowing what too look for and to be able to say something when you see something that looks off or wrong. There are really people of all ages going thro this right now and are in it very deep thinking that the only way is to kill or be killed. Thats no way to live and if this show can help even one person find safety and freedom from there abusers then the show has done its job.
I appreciate how these 2 actors depicted the roles respectfully with thin this interview especially because the positive side of this is to bring light to their case love it 😊
Doesn’t give them a pass. They murdered. They could’ve left but they still stayed and lived there because they didn’t want to lose mom and dad’s money. My sister was abused by our biological father and his brother but she never killed anyone.

Lets be honest - the show is about the amount of money you were paid to be in the movie. The fact that you did not research about the truth and the words of the brothers tells the world it is about the money.
"Kitty and Jose are not here to defend themselves so who knows what really happened in that household" was an absolutely shocking, disgusting and disappointing statement from Chloe. Goes to show why victims find it so hard to realize that what they experience is abuse, report it and find justice. Absolutely disgusting. This was a job for you but for some people it was their painful life. Show some respect
Yes, the whole series is a bit cowardishly made, making sure not to offend the justice system. It is good in a way it portrays different sides of the story, but given the context it is cowardly. And actors just dont want to get involved in any part of the real story, also cowardly a bit.
@@B3damn They actually can take sides, based on personal opinion, its not illegal. But they dont want to go there, what they have in mind is the reputation of the project, not the real life events and people

These actors did such a good job portraying the parents, loved it. My opinion of the brothers is even if they were abused they were old enough to pack their bags and walk away.
Those brothers don't deserve to get out. They killed their parents and they weren't little kids. They were adults and could've moved out, instead of killing their parents.
To not weight in with an opinion, or give an ethical stance, even if caveated with "if this really was the case" that two children were treated inhumanely by their parents is unforgivable. The way javier sidesteps it by saying it's not for him to say and that he expects someone else to do that IS the problem with our society. He just makes films, profits off them, and can't even stand up for ethics. I can understand him not wanting to go as far as to comment on how the rightness or wrongness od the outcome of the case, but he could have handled the question by framing the answer around hypotheticals. Lost respect for him.

Bingo ! Very well stated. Ty
Absolutely! Indeed there is literally only one truth to sex crimes. That it happened flat out.
it's not a documentary, its a dramatization. Quite literally the opposite.
Also the show did NOT take the parents side, if you watched it
@@drinks_menu I did see it and it justifies the parents José for having been abused (there is no evidence and even his sister says it didn't happen), the nother cuz everyone hated her as a " poor little thing" and the brothers seemed to have a conscious incestuous sexual relationship (Lyle admitted to abusing Erick in the context of being a victim of prolonged SA)

They were grown then too.

Believe Lyle & Eric. Their parents were the MONSTERS!

It’s crazy how Lyle is a year older than Javier
I think they did a good job of making us think we don't know what is true or not - at times Jose as a total monster, other lenses were he was just 'tough on the kids' , at time the kids were evil, but other angles they were truly victims. Excellent series, INCREDIBLE actors.
But we Do know.
Everyone involved in that Serie should be ashamed!

this is gross. to take someone’s life and write your own version? and the the actual people don’t even agree it’s accurate and your reaction is “they have every right to their opinion”… it’s more like “hollywood paid us a ton of money and we don’t care how we caused suffering to a whole family even more than they already been thru”… love these actors but come onnnn…. what a karma to ride off someone else actual life and you don’t even do it accurate? bleh. hollywood- bleh
And if the new proofs, which were not part of the series, will lead to the re-trial and find valid, then the brothers perspective will be the right one.

The acting was beyond amazing. They are both impeccable.
So, do you now think that it was greed? (I wasn't sure by your comment how you feel now, after seeing the series.)
Well, we know the parents were monsters.
I truly applaud their performance. I also love their comments in this interview. They respected the family and their feelings.
Why didnt the director not talk to the brother's first?? The director spoke to100 ppl allegedly for the flick. Should not be too surprising the brothers or any family members speak negative about the directors vision

Incredible actors! One of the best series I have ever seen :)
All the acting was very good, but the two young men who played the brothers were amazing!

I do. We shall see.
Two of the most incredible actors today. I have so much respect for their work. They brought so much sensitivity to these roles. I really felt for them even while I felt disturbed by some of their (alleged) actions. My favorite episode was the one that focused on the parents ("Don't Dream It's Over.") Overall, incredibly well done, amazing production and AMAZING acting!!! The series starts off slick but it gets very good.
Great actors
