Do you know how many child abuse victims there are that have police and child services visit their homes to "check on them" and nothing ever happens. The system does not work to protect children. Even if they gave each other a smooch on the face, it doesn't make them incest. With that said, Ryan Murphy is a repulsive human being. He said some really awful things in response to Erik's statement about the show particularly portraying Lyle as a psycho, which he isn't in real life. He basically told them to stop "acting like victims."

I keep seeing people say this so I watched the show. I didn't see that at all. The journalist is the one who said it. The journalist talking to his friends around dinner is suppose to narrate what the media and country were theorizing at the time. It was brilliant the way they did that so you could really feel what everyone else felt during that time. The country and media were the ones theorizing the incest relationship.

it's so sad and angering that their shopping spree was never looked at from the perspective of a traumatized person, but immediately labeled as greedy. if i were in their place i would try to dissociate and escape reality as well, and spending money is an easy way to get that stimulation quickly. it's such a common coping mechanism! i'm not surprised that it wasn't taken into account, given the prejudices and lack of understanding at that time, but it's sad regardless.

It seems like many people are treating this Netflix series as a completely accurate account of events, when in fact, I believe Ryan Murphy is telling the story from multiple perspectives, not just Erik and Lyle’s. This not only heightens the drama-since it is a drama series-but also encourages viewers to explore the case further, as the differing viewpoints offer vastly contrasting narratives. Ultimately, it's the viewer's responsibility to research the facts themselves and not let a TV show shape their judgment entirely.

Without saying a word, the brothers tied her up and stripped off her shirt. Diane screamed and the brothers retreated from their attack. They also went to a movie theater and attempted to purchase tickets for the film Batman to use as their alibi but abandoned the plan due to the timestamp on the ticket stub.[36] They then headed to the "Taste of L.A." festival at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.[37]

This is coming from a kid who was also physically abused their whole life by their parents. No, I did not hurt my parents, but I understand where those kids are coming from and the cops failed me multiple times how many times I called the cops on my mom, smashing my head into a tile and I was the one being told that I was going to be taken to Juvie because I hit my mom back while she was strangling me.
The system does fail children and I absolutely agree what they did to their parents and I’m not gonna lie and anyone who wants to tell me I’m wrong for that. I’ll take it but I get it because I was a kid that was failed by law-enforcement literally my whole life how are you gonna tell a fifth grader that they are wrong for hitting their mother back when their mother was choking them, and smashed their head into tile
With my grandma as a witness on my side, the cops still told me I was wrong
So honestly, those boys need to be freed and any of the people who put them away for as long as they went away need consequences to in my opinion and again I don’t care if anyone thinks I’m wrong. Times have changed. I think their unhappiness with the show comes with the fact they have been robbed of life as things have progressed, and they have not watched other shows. They do not know the extent of the true crime community or even how much the public has truly shifted in SA awareness.
