That Assassin's Creed showing showcased exactly what I knew the problem would be. They want to have their black samurai without dealing with the inconvenient real world implications that would accompany it. This is Sengoku Era Japan; 99.9% of people in this period have never seen or even heard of someone who's black and yet you have the first thing they notice about Yasuke being that he's a samurai-that's not his defining feature and everyone knows it. It's like if you got pulled over by a green Martian in a police uniform and your first reaction was "What's the problem, officer?" instead of "What the hell are you!?". Every single NPC should be stopping to stare and point at him in disbelief and every line of dialogue should revolve around the colour of his skin for it to have any semblance of grounding in reality. I swear you'd get a more noticeable reaction from the locals actually going to rural Japan in 2024 as a black person than Ubisoft's Yasuke is getting in 1582...
Plus, even I. Regular Japan, they see a black guy they will stare.. back then people would be like HOLY smokes oni! Literally Asia, black people were called black person/ghost.. white people are literally white perosn/ghost.. cause people have never seen these people before.

The fact that he's a damn samurai is telling on it's own. Such a great pick for a game series rooted in stealth to play as someone in massive armour that frequently has banners/flags on them to let everyone know who they are. Very subtle. That they didn't just go with a ninja is so stupid it's confusing, assassin ninja vs "templar" samurai trying to take over Japan is such an obvious slam-dunk that they proceeded to fumble as badly as only Ubisoft can.
The problem with Ubisoft games is that even if they look good, that doesn't negate the horrible experience of having to go through 100 hours of repetitive, boring, bland, cookie-cutter gameplay. Clear towers and camps, run from point A to point B and do more of the same.

Graphics in a game barely matters if the gameplay is way better.
I love how the gameplay was walking around slowly for 80%, and then the other 20% is trying not to be distracted by the cringe story and dialogue while doing a mission you don't care about. This is like everyday life as a millennial office worker camouflaged as a star wars game.
I dont if its just me but Yasukes behavoir destroys the game.immersion for me. Him acting and fighting like he was borned and raised in japan and understands the culture very well is breaking the immersion for me so hard.
It break the immersion for me but with different reason. If Samurai can kill someone without reason, the whole plot of “Shogun” should be much shorter. But then in the AC trailer he just start beating solider without saying anything, it make me think he is a Viking from AC Valhalla more than a Samurai.
It’s almost like they replaced his model with the original japanese monk lol Guy was there for like 2 yeras.. lol.. acting like hes an expat thats been there for 10 😂😂😂😂
@@sachi8483 Yeah, the character was Japanese for a very long time during development and was blackwashed at the last minute. Real Yasuke was only in Japan for three years, couldn't speak the language, and surrendered after the only battle he participated in.
Yeah there's a lot of misunderstanding of Japanese culture in the game. That's kind of expected. As soon as I saw that the characters were speaking with broken English and an accent when they're in Japan I knew this would be a Hollywood version of Japan where everyone acts like a caricature.
AC-Shadows-Why not add character creation and avoid having a singular lead character people may not like or associate with? Seems like the easiest thing to do other than making the game completely historically accurate and having historians do research and reference that research material. Simple things companies can do if they wanted to.
Anno, the only Ubi games I ever care about 😂 Anno 1800 is amazing, super moddable. They messed it up with 2205 and then with 1800 they listened to the players so much. I definitely respect the team behind Anno 1800.
Ubisoft and EA are 2 gaming companies that should either do a drastic change or wrap it up.... And if any of you bought their game in last 5 years then i hate you that you feed them.
Bought Lost crown, play every AC since AC1 came out, I played siege, for honor and both divisions in college. I tried avatar on Ubi+, was so much fun. Basically far cry primal 2. My favorite far cry. Also played some wild lands and breakpoint when a friend gifted them to me So cry more kid Y'all are pathetic at this point

53:40 Funny enough in Assassin's Creed 2 you could actually do only fists once you got to a certain point in the game that allowed you to unlock a skill for disarming opponents allowing for beating their ass, breaking their necks, or choking them it was fun.
Thought Star Wars Outlaws looked surprisingly good for a Ubisoft game. Now that we have seen gameplay you can't hate on the price alone and say the game is bad, the game will speak for itself. At least it didn't look like Assassins Creed Shadows, which is the AC template all over again. The moment they step out of that template I'm interested, just like they did with Star Wars Outlaws.
The game looks very interesting, like a JRPG with a Western flair. Perhaps too overly dramatic regarding the plot, but I guess they tried to make it like in Japanese games.
@osborne3 The demographic I am most interested in as far as this conversation goes are Black Women. I would be legitimately love to see the numbers there. There are tons of Asian/White women who game - you can see them on Twitch. I do not recall ever seeing a Black woman gamer channel. However, there seems to be a crazy fascination with having Black/African American women as the main characters in a ton of these games. I really do not understand their angle. Are the numbers there and am I just blind?
@@LeftJoystick I did notice that skew as well. The problem also is they will never make the character layered or have any negative character traits becuase they are a woman and black now. And yeh probably a very rare demographic the black gamer girl.
The insane thing is Star Wars Outlaws could be such an amazing game that everyone wants if all they did was change the Main Character to Boba Fett and make it about him hunting bounties. There could be Jedi Boss fights and everything since he did hunt Jedi.
Quoting a japanese comment that I found under AC japanese trailer. "If it was a different IP no one would have cared, but it's AC and they missed a great opportunity"
What i saw from ass shadow gameplay: they make Yasuke a literal super human, then try to make the swordplay sounds *super interesting amd realistic* while at the same time show the AI swing their weapon wildly and then got deflected/parried with the usual animation cancel in the ass ass sin game, Twice. Im just saying lets talk about the game by the gameplay alone, the swordplay is boring

"how to do it without feeling force". Make Yaske, (however you spell it) a main questline character and give him badass scenes. Not the protagonist. People would be totally fine with it
Asmon is right that most people want to play as characters that look like them. Game devs don't get it. There are so many upcoming games where you play as a female and the vast majority of gamers are men.
Yasuke looked good. A black man in a game made by non-black ppl FINALLY got it right. He doesn't have over sized lips or features of a white man reshaped a darker skin tone. His hair was well done. It was simple locs. They weren't done in the style of that woke Kilmonger bs that we keep seeing. The trailer looked good. The same goes for Star Wars Outlaws. But I still can't trust Ubisoft for their terrible ideals on how they want the gaming world to be. So I won't be buying these right away. Only way I will is if and they're on sale, on Steam.
While I get the controversy of Yasuke, Assassin's Creed has also never been 100% about historical accuracy. The originality of the stories focused on the information never told, hence playing as assassins.
I actually think Outlaws looks good from what I've seen. You get to walk around in a SW open world. and Like in KOTOR you see the landing and take off sequence, oh man. least loading screens the better. I also think Assassins creed shadows looks great too. Also a fan of the setting. You get both samurai and ninja gameplay. I don't really care for historical accuracy tbh. Who even knows if the written history is entirely accurate anyway. I just want to have fun and get lost in a game's world.
I can only imagine what they'll do if they ever do an Peru focused Assasin's creed. I bet the Spanish will be depicted as all male demons and the natives as angels and all female.
Actually hearing decent things about outlaws. AC shadow just makes me wish SOMEONE would bring Tenchu back. If the game was centered around her instead of immersion breaking bling bling cartoon samurai it would be serviceable
People are very sure, you just have to look for everything that's actually in real life written about him and it's literally just a couple sentences about how interesting he looked and that he entertained the daimyo and went around with him for a while, then left Japan. It's not that there's no records on him being a samurai or not, we literally just have a name, a couple paintings and a quick mention about him. He's literally as insignificant as whoever the next slightly interesting fellow came around
Outlaws isn’t the first ever open world Star Wars game. But it is “the first ever open world Star wars game (long enough pause to make you think that’s what they meant) set in the dangerous golden age of the underworld.” Lol
Ubisoft needs to make the cities of Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo each as fascinating as Alexandria, Athens, Korinth, or Baghdad, for me to care enough to hop on
11 AC games since Brotherhood the last one played and it looks basically the exact same but with better graphics. The saddest part is I've jokingly said over the years "you play 1 ubisoft open world you've played them all". And after actually tuning in for the first time in a long time it looks like the meme was true all along. Actually just sad.
while having a launch pad under a waterfall looks cool, getting water on your ship and then travelling to space and it freezing in nooks and crannies seems like a huge risk...
17:50 funny thing is that Humberly Gonzales, the voice and face model, is hot. But they still found a way to alter her appearance. Hyped for the game regardless, though.

No, you need help. You're in a woke cult where you can't see a problem with every game adding black strong wahmen as the PC and clear gay voices as narration. It's terrible, and has gotten so bad it's almost ruined gaming beyond repair.
Are you a SW fan? Bc that got ruined by DEI. Nothing is immune, and now all of gaming is the next victim.
Xbox had woke but they were much subtler about it. Sony kinda , Ubisoft.. very obvious.
But I’m surprise they weren’t wearing rainbow pins and stuff
So funny how quickly the term cultural appropriation left when AC Shadows was announced
I got banned from the r/assassinscreed sub because I said I thought a game set in like, the Malian Empire (West Africa) would be awesome. I said I wouldn’t care if there was not a single white, Hispanic, Latin, or Asian person in the game. I just want historical games to be historically-authentic.
And I got permabanned by those racist mods.
TBF, cultural appropriation is one of the dumbest concepts ever conceived.
Why do you think that is
@@LeftJoystick lol I also got banned, after someone said "Yasuke was a samurai because someone said it in an article" and I responded to him, respectfuly, with facts and proof.
@@LeftJoystick Don't pretend like you play AC games for historical authenticity. A historical figure that might've been a samurai being displayed as a samurai doesn't kill you and you can just play the other character if you want. Literally nothing wrong with it.
1:19:00 a good example of the trust that he’s talking about is Final Fantasy 16. It has a gay relationship in it, and yet no one complained or called it ‘woke pandering’ or whatever. People trusted that the relationship was in there for actual storytelling reasons and not just arbitrarily inserted just to check a box.
AC: Shadows just looks like a budget Ghost of Tsushima

I love how the gameplay was walking around slowly for 80%, and then the other 20% is trying not to be distracted by the cringe story and dialogue while doing a mission you don't care about. This is like everyday life as a millennial office worker camouflaged as a star wars game.
I dont if its just me but Yasukes behavoir destroys the game.immersion for me. Him acting and fighting like he was borned and raised in japan and understands the culture very well is breaking the immersion for me so hard.
You haven’t even played the game yet
It break the immersion for me but with different reason. If Samurai can kill someone without reason, the whole plot of “Shogun” should be much shorter. But then in the AC trailer he just start beating solider without saying anything, it make me think he is a Viking from AC Valhalla more than a Samurai.

Thought Star Wars Outlaws looked surprisingly good for a Ubisoft game. Now that we have seen gameplay you can't hate on the price alone and say the game is bad, the game will speak for itself. There are tons of Asian/White women who game - you can see them on Twitch. I do not recall ever seeing a Black woman gamer channel.

Quoting a japanese comment that I found under AC japanese trailer. "If it was a different IP no one would have cared, but it's AC and they missed a great opportunity"

Yasuke looks bad ass definitely maining him. Sneaking looks cool but too easy.
The stealth moves and kills through the paper doors reminds me of tenchu, the shadow mechanics seem OP but are pretty cool not gonna lie.

Cops train "dogs" to chase "cat" burglars. So fucking basic, too.
While I get the controversy of Yasuke, Assassin's Creed has also never been 100% about historical accuracy. The originality of the stories focused on the information never told, hence playing as assassins.
Honestly idc what people say
An open world Star Wars game is a dream of mine
And despite the price you have to admit, the game looks fun
At least the Assassin's creed game has brutal combos and some blood.

52:45 Bro, they are using animations from "For honor" XD
Actually hearing decent things about outlaws. AC shadow just makes me wish SOMEONE would bring Tenchu back. If the game was centered around her instead of immersion breaking bling bling cartoon samurai it would be serviceable
I don't understand why they put so much fantasy shit in a naval game. Just make real ships and let people shoot each other.
Don't know why they call it Assassins Creed - Shadows when it could have been called Drive-by Shogun!
I'll buy Outlaws whenever it goes on sale for $20
Outlaws isn’t the first ever open world Star Wars game.
But it is “the first ever open world Star wars game (long enough pause to make you think that’s what they meant) set in the dangerous golden age of the underworld.”
