Any justification for a stamina bar for anything in this era of ship combat is laughable. As an example, the Battle of Trafalgar lasted five hours and nobody on any side had an issue of creating a constant field of fire. No stamina bar stopped 100+ gun ships from consistently unloading a broadside minute by minute, hour after hour. There's no reason to justify a bad game. Just stop.
The total lack of understanding of why people liked their products is especially frustrating when you think about how we live in a world where hardworking and talented people struggle to pay bills but someone got paid to mismanage a bit gaming company that just had to make fun games.
Skulls and Bones is made for investors, not for gamers. It's a bare minimum of a pirate. It's not even a pirate game. A ship battle game. When you control your character on hubs, it feels disconnected from the world, an afterthought, and it feels like it used to be a menu, but that made it into a hub. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean, but all the footage happens on the ship. The atrocious Pre-orders packs and MTXs' design to milk a sinking ship. Overall, it feels like a chore to play Skulls and Bones. Clearly, the team is very talented, but the direction of the game steered in the wrong way. A massive titanic disaster all over again. Skulls and Bones is made for investors, not for gamers.
Its basically stripped down to what a mobile game is now. Glued to your ship or a hub. Lots of boring resource gathering. No mele fighting. Lots of cool looking islands you can't go to. Its actually almost identical to an old assassin's creed sandbox style mobile game about pirates. The only major difference is the ship to ship combat was turn based and it was single player.
Just about every major business is about investors and profit. Did you not learn anything about business? This content creator is a business whose concern is making advertising revenue off his opinion only. Nothing more. So the content creator is in the same boat as the business he is ignorantly slamming
20:50 is the #1 reason why "Skull and Bones" was a thing. It may have initially started as an honest project but quickly evolved into a way Ubisoft can get tax breaks and a government to give Ubisoft money. Singapore essentially called them on their BS and forced them to release the project with threat of suing them with heavy financial damages.
The problem I can see is none of the devs or leadership bothered to listen to the fans, the paying customers. Just make Blackflag, minus AC. It was that simple and everyone literally chose the opposite of that. We complain as gamers about sequels like sports games, FPS games and the likes, which literally barely change anything at all, but they still sell like hotcakes. Because they just gave people more of what they want. Even Pokemon, which is taking more and more content away and releasing more and more unfinished games, still sell like hotcakes because it's just more of Pokemon. When you literally can't even do the bare minimum, that's a problem. Mind you, keeping everything literally the same for like 30, 40 years s also not good, but that's a whole other story.
It makes me sad that there are people defending ubisoft and this game. It's embarassing. I am never going to purchase another ubisoft ever again in my life.

I just don't get why it's so hard? Everyone keeps talking about Black Flag... but literally all the Assassins creed games had a level of ship combat post black flag. Rogue was essentially a reskinned sequal, and Odyssey was probably the best ship based Assassins creed game. My point is... they were still making these games while Skull and Bones was in development. The level of incompetence is astounding when you realize they were making competent ship based open world games just down the hall, and this is the crap they came up with?
I feel like it was a game run by suits rather than designers. They start saying “hey, it would be cool if…” when it’s already half built. You change ideas at the mock-up stage, not the gameplay stage.
They are losing talents which give us a glimpse into atrocious management of big company in game industry. A lot of things they are able to do in the past are not in the newer game cause they just don't know how to do it anymore.
No, Odyssey was the first step in downgrading like S&B from Black Flag You couldn't even enter your ship/captains cabin, removing things instead of adding onto Exactly what they did here
They showed fake game play mechanics and high poly models at e3. It should be considered false advertisement. They had no actual game to speak of. Just some animations and fluff. And their PR told us in one of their excuses for the delay "they were trying to fit a pirate game in the world we live in now" Just no. They didn't care if it was true to actual pirate history or lore. They didn't care about pirates or what they actually did and it shows. Pirates didn't have to hunt to survive for the most part, they just plundered other ships. They grifted off a popular theme and it's sad. They turned off their comments to avoid backlash and any feedback from their potential customers. That is a spit in the face.
"this game is too big to fall. Just like the banks of the U.S." whoever was dumb enough to make this statement should feel lucky to be employed. Hopefully no longer in a supervisory position.
No, it makes perfect sense, most people just misunderstand what "too big to fail" means. It doesn't mean "it's too big that it cant fail," but that "it's so important and big that letting it fail would be disastrous," to the nation, or in this case, the company. The employee is saying that ubisoft corporate thought this was too important to the company to let it fail, hence the ridiculous amount of time and money put into a flawed and mediocre product/idea.

It died the moment it think people want only a boats fighting each other as a solo game. This should be just a side activities on a bigger open world game. Ex. Witcher world plus skull and bones. Or skyrim plus this game.
It was actually insane how much they actually ignored what their own audience was telling them. And it was originally going to be a quesadilla.

I think this game is the best example of what "chasing trends" can look like at the worst of cases. Sure, Ubisoft loves to chase trends, but at least they release these games right after the trend is dying out. But this game tried chasing trends during development, changing designs, scope, and whole ideology several times based on trends, never coming out... But it did come out. And what you had left was an messy husk nobody wanted to work on anymore.

Absolutely right in something you said. People wanted Black Flag without the Assassin bits. Single player (or at least PvE multilayer) with focus on exploration and the ship combat from Black Flag but maybe a bit more refined. When will publishers learn gamers don't always want multiplayer shoved in everything and definitely don't care about after market cosmetics. I would have thought games would have only gotten better in the 2020s with how advanced and powerful tech / software is but somehow every title is the worst they have ever been. They need to stop focusing on profits and put all of their focus on building an amazing game that sets new standards and then the money will naturally follow. Its really that simple.
I'm just mad the junk-rigged ship as seen in 12:41 has a foresail and standing rigging. The whole point of junks is the mast is free standing and the forces of the wind on the sail are tiny compared to stayed masts and sails. Played to open beta a week or two before release. It was so boring I quit after two hours or so. To give me what I want, would have been easy, somthing like this: - Based further on Black flag, I think we all want that. Needs new stuff, though. - A large new map with no loading screens, divided into levels/difficulties, like BF. Maybe level scaling so starter areas stays relevant. Possible to make map larger in later expansions. - Same/similar ship controls. And swimming ofc. - Similar ship upgrades, but more advanced. Hard to upgrade everything. Combat wouldn't be hugely different, though, except maybe new skills. - Similar fortresses to capture, but many more missions after doing so, not just two. Possibly quest chains to open something new. - Fortresses OR additional bases in same region can be upgraded. - Explorable small land areas with stuff to do or get, but not collecting 200 chests. Maybe camp raids, like plantations in BF, with 100% stealth since it's a naval game, not land combat. Or something completely new. - Hunts for sharks and whales, not as simplific as in BF, though. - Daily challenges that are not that hard (Odysseys have this), and weekly legendary ships that ofc are challenging. Maybe much more advanced system for repetables. - Possibly a faction system, but not a huge grind for it. Could unlock treasure maps and more in each region. - OPTIONAL co-op, maybe including lfg option or similar to take on mege-challenges like large convois or groups of legendaries. - OPTIONAL pvp on seperate maps, several modes, ie 5v5, or taking/defending fortresses (no impact on pve world). - OPTIONAL offline mode, but will ofc cancel the possibility for challenges, co-op and pvp. and a few more things. Considering Rogue (with almost same combat as BF) took less than a year to develop, this shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 years. I would play something like this for a long time.

Imagine a game where start off as a young boy and get a job climbing rigging and cleaning decks and you have tasks to do each day... As you progress emergent events happen, storms, combat events... and as your ship mates die in combat or of scurvy you get promoted and take on new roles... until you are the captain. Make it rich and detailed with a compelling story of betrayal (see Red Dead or Kingdom Come). That takes works though, it's easier to just recycle the cash store from the last game. Not going to get it anything like that from Ubisoft though, not in a million years. Sink the French Fleet like Churchill on a bender!

Make Black Flag with the gameplay loop of Sid Mier’s Pirates and up to 4-player co-op. Boom, suddenly people might trust your company again.
In fact, leave it to the modders
Skulls and Bones is made for investors, not for gamers.
ship fighting with healing cannon balls and stamina bars
Its basically stripped down to what a mobile game is now. Glued to your ship or a hub. Lots of boring resource gathering. No mele fighting. Lots of cool looking islands you can't go to. Its actually almost identical to an old assassin's creed sandbox style mobile game about pirates. The only major difference is the ship to ship combat was turn based and it was single player.
You’re declaring your own ignorance to business in video game creating. This is a live service game.

Amen brother!
It's easy to spot the content creators on the payroll.

Hahaha, brutal dude
Syndicate had 'train' combat and Unity had . . . French.
They are losing talents which give us a glimpse into atrocious management of big company in game industry. A lot of things they are able to do in the past are not in the newer game cause they just don't know how to do it anymore.
No, Odyssey was the first step in downgrading like S&B from Black Flag
You couldn't even enter your ship/captains cabin, removing things instead of adding onto
Exactly what they did here
They showed fake game play mechanics and high poly models at e3.

@thomasov2004 i am personally fine with seeing multiple female characters or even playing as a female because that's what i prefer, but i do agree that it doesn't/shouldn't work in a lot of games due to historical events (not really events, i just mean the past)
nothing wrong with live service... its just the gameplay and questdesign thats horrible. i mean thats not much to be left and nothing from it is above average.... and of course the businessplan/monetirization sucks big time which could make a lsg legit
It died the moment it think people want only a boats fighting each other as a solo game.
This should be just a side activities on a bigger open world game. Ex. Witcher world plus skull and bones. Or skyrim plus this game.
It was actually insane how much they actually ignored what their own audience was telling them.
Like, imagine going to a restaurant and you want a cheeseburger but the cook ignores your order and serves you artichoke soup.
And it takes him forever to even serve it to you. And it was originally going to be a quesadilla.
Meanwhile the reason we haven't seen a Black Flag 2 is because Ubi didn't want it to compete with their pirate game Skull & Bones. What a waste.
I hated the fetch quests to get all the needed resources so a blacksmith can make my weaponry. Could you imagine in real life, you need to get a hammer...but you need to get the metal and wood so home depot can make the hammer for you...

Make a good game and release it complete and it will sell and make profit.
The new update messed everything up. Nerfing everything what was beneficial to players shucked out the fun even more. Current player base including me, we are not happy at. all.

Skull and Bones is the epitome of a stillbirth.
I'm just mad the junk-rigged ship as seen in 12:41 has a foresail and standing rigging. We wanted a pirate game, we got a drug and rum running game.
Played to open beta a week or two before release. It was so boring I quit after two hours or so.
To give me what I want, would have been easy, somthing like this:
- Based further on Black flag, I think we all want that.

So many game players act like an unreleased game is some dream vacation destination they plan on taking, and it's really quite amusing when one sees them like that. Edit: BTW I also have and enjoy the game for now. When I don't anymore my game library will thank me.
And they’re in charge of making the new Star Wars open world 💀
