I was at the Samurai experience in Kyoto just a few days ago and I asked the instructor about this, he said you are born into samurai clans. It’s bloodline. You can’t be a foreigner samurai. He also said there are still samurai bloodline left in Japan today, and Ubisoft trying to make Yasuke a samurai is mockery of their ancestors.
Correct. It was bloodline. You had to be born in certain families to be eligible to become a samurai for a reason of guaranteed security during a hierarchical society. My ancestor was a samurai. His picture, memos, journals, and swords have been passed on through generations in my family.
Hell yea they do. Im sick of these dumbass woke companies. Japan is BASED. Keep Japan for the Japanese only! Keep your culture and heritage going strong.
They’re literally just trying to have their cake and eat it too. The ordeal is literally just this: Ubi: “You’re racist if you complain about Yasuke because we’ve actually done research and met with historians about this!” Everyone: “Well, you’re racist for misrepresenting Japanese culture.” Ubi: “Yeah… well… it’s a fantasy game so it doesn’t matter!” It wasn’t until they released that apology that they started pointing out that this game is also fictional, they’ve literally just been heavily implying that their game is historically accurate in all of the marketing.
They claim it's just a game, but they also straight up claimed that this was a way to "learn about history" and, like you said, flaunted their "historical sources". So they are selling something, claiming it to be historically accurate, and then buyers are finding out after the fact that it isn't historically accurate. In fact, it's just one big virtue signal
The opening screen of assassins creed states “inspired by historical characters and events, this work of fiction…” A lot of people don’t seem to understand the term “inspired”. In ac3 you participate in the Boston tea party. Did that actually happen? Yes. Did the assassins take part in it? No. However you could still learn about the Boston tea party. The characters also follow the same pattern, such as da Vinci. It is much the same thing with Yasuke in this game. He was a weapon bearer, not a samurai. But making him a samurai in game is not a huge stretch, so they did it. It is BASED on history, but not 100% accurate. That’s how it’s been marketed, that’s how it’s been since ac1. Ubisoft didn’t call anyone racist, only IGN and other idiotic game media.
Japanese, Korean and Chinese are generally, historically adversaries. So when something like this brings them together, you know something is really wrong with the game.
As a Taiwanese, this is indeed correct. It makes East Asian players feel very perplexed. Frankly, I have no problem with the West pursuing political correctness, but it shouldn't be done at the expense of our culture. Perhaps the history between white people and black people makes white people feel indebted to black people, or black people feel that white people owe them, so there is a need for modern-day compensation. But none of this is related to East Asia, right? To be honest, Chinese people were even taken by American whites to build railroads; we should be seen as fellow victims. So, if political correctness is to be pursued, it should remain within the Western cultural sphere.
This reminds me to that Cleopatra show that got Netflix sued by Egypt. Only that this guy went the extra mile to rewrite history on the internet, what a madlad. These people are completely insane lol.

the real question is why they didn't use Miyamoto Musashi, a dude who was in his first battle at 13 on the losing side, later became a ronin and proceeded to call out other master swordsman and dueled 63 men to the death and never lost. Its a free AC storyline where they wouldn't even have to come up with anything. All the duels could be the bosses you fight and just fill in for the animus bullshit.
No, the real question is why they’re suddenly using historical figures in the first place as a playable protagonist. Almost as if they knew how ridiculous and outlandish a black samurai in feudal Japan would be, and they’ve literally had to appropriate a historical figure in order to even justify it
"We knew that it might have happened" -Thomas Lockley That's him speaking like a politician. That's the language of a man that is intentionally trying to deceive.
I think he would have made the perfect person you're working with to join the assassins. Like he's working within. Like since he's an outsider to the culture and probably treated lesser or stupid he's the perfect person to keep an eye on the Japanese version of the Templars.
The crazy part is there's people either ignoring how Japanese people feel about this or telling themselves it's just Caucasians that are mad. Alot of people in Japan are very proud of their history and culture I'm not surprised to see them upset but I am surprised to see their government even getting involved.
I heard that it was explain that because of that professor that made up stuff as well as telling people in Japan one thing and go to the west to tell people the other thing. It was possible that Japanese education was comprised by people from other country with their own agenda, so that why they want the government to look into it.
You westerners may treat culture and history as something so mundane and trivial. But here in Asia it's different. Just like how gender identities and being picky with food is trivial and mundane in the east. But not for westerners. 😂😂

Not really anything related to Colonialism or alternative history. This is just a disgraced academic trying his hardest to gain recognition that he is neither qualified to or deserve. Assassin's Creed pretends to be faithful to the historical settings it portrays and marketed itself as such, but now we see that they tried to have their cake and eat it too. Black people were practically unknown in Japan at the time save for being seen working as slaves under foreign merchants. This is evidenced by Frois's account of several people dying in Kyoto after a fight broke out between people trying to get a glimpse of Yasuke upon his arrival, and how Nobunaga tried to have his skin washed as he believed Yasuke had been dyed with ink.. What Japanese people knew of Africans would've come from those merchants, and if the story of Akechi sparing Yasuke is to be believed (and can be used as a representative), Japanese people saw Africans as lesser beings just as the merchants did. Frois writes that Yasuke didn't speak a word of Japanese, but entertained Nobunaga with a few "tricks" he had learned, while Nobunaga allegedly enjoyed holding one-sided conversations with the man. Yasuke was a "retainer" for 11 months before Nobunaga died at Honnoji, and it's highly unlikely that Yasuke became anything remotely close to a skilled warrior during that time. From what is written, it is likely he was kept at court, as little more than a curiosity to be shown off - a glorified jester, given a title to separate him from the slaves owned by merchants. But samurai, understood as a traditional Japanese warrior, he was not. He was never given a family name, as is otherwise required of samurai.
Well he did actually exist, but is only briefly mentioned never as a samurai. The source would be the Japanese letters written by the lords of that time period.

Ubi should have made it clear that they had discriminated against Japanese people and treated them as racists, and apologized. To begin with, few people in Japan complain about black people. I am Japanese. I know many people are unhappy that black people are the main characters. But I didn't care if black people were the main characters. The sensibilities of Japanese and foreigners are too different, so I thought it would be fine if Yasuke included a scene where he asked questions from a foreigner's point of view and Japanese characters answered them. However, the recent disturbance denied Yasuke's original history and made him angry because he felt like he was trampling on Japanese culture and history. If you're going to treat me like that, don't use Yasuke again. Quit using Japan as your subject. Works set in Japan are made by only Japanese people, so please leave them alone. They could've made the protagonist a genderless blob of space goo named Kat-e which can transform into random Japs and cats and trees and do mad parkour and no one would've minded AS LONG AS THEY DIDN'T COME OUT CLAIMING "hey guys; this is actual history". Nobody thought Hollywood wanted to indoctrinate the world into thinking Cleopatra was from London by casting Elisabeth Taylor; the Greek never said a word about The rock being Hercules, and China didn't protest over The Great Wall being rescued by WHITE Hollywood stars in a MOVIE MADE BY THE CHINESE THEMSELVES. Because NOBODY went out of their way to actually claim this was ACTUAL HISTORY. Or that stories need updates for "modern audiences" eg "your traditional German fairytale now needs to be browninated".

It's very stereotypical and r a c i s t. "Black people love hip hop don't they? Heck, a lot of articles racing to their defence have claimed they're accurate. The MOMENT the backlash reached the Japanese parliament they wrote a statement saying "we don't aim for accuracy," like they thought nobody would notice the completely contradictory stuff they were saying weeks prior. DEI defenders: "It's a game, it's not supposed to be realistic it's a fantasy" Ubisoft: "Learn and experience the realistic history of Japan" I understand that it's an opinion you can have that it's just a game but they literally advertised it as historically accurate.
Even if they say its not accurate, its still damaging how the masses perceive history. Most people get their history from movies, games and shows, not books or documentaries.
@willhavel4525 to the victor goes the spoils... including lore. Historical fallacies saturate the planet's recollection of history and folklore. To even assume one has an accurate recount of any historical lore piece that presumably occurred beyond 500 yrs and attempts to use it as evidence is hilarious and outright disappointing.

I have never had the opportunity to meet my family in Japan, despite having grown up outside of the country. Yet, i still find the recent actions of Ubisoft to be highly offensive.
English: "Thank you for accurately understanding the anger of the Japanese people. As a Japanese person, I am sincerely grateful. Many Japanese people have pointed out that we do not care if the protagonist of this game is black or white, as long as it is fiction. 1. They repeatedly advertised that we could learn about Japanese history accurately, yet they are imposing a false history on Japan. 2. They are spreading a false history that black slavery was prevalent in Japan without any sources. (This is more related to Thomas Lockley's book and Wikipedia than directly UBI.) 3. When we point this out, DEI supporters respond with nothing but "Shut up racist" without any logical reason. 4. In the end, they issue a statement that is not an apology, saying "It's just fiction, don't get so worked up." I cannot forgive these actions from the bottom of my heart. Is protesting the distortion of our country's history and its widespread promotion around the world considered racist? It seems that the definition of racist has changed without my knowledge. If so, I am fine with being called racist. I had heard that DEI was terrible, but not to this extent... I respect you Westerners for fighting against such an evil group for so many years."
They could have made the MC a guy like Musashi, a literal legendary Japanese samurai who won like 60 duels, and had a dual sword style. He was literally made for the AC Japan game. And they blew it.
Hattori Hanzo is literally THE guy they needed for AC:Shadows. The dude is a samurai AND a ninja. And also alive during the 1500s, the time period which Oda Nobunaga was alive.
Miyamoto Musashi would be about.....-5 at oldest when the game takes place. He was only 16 when he fought in Sekigahara, which was the battle between Toyotomi and Tokugawa well after Nobunaga was dead. He was born 5 years AFTER the game takes place.
Now it's suddenly ok to use historical characters as the playable character? What happened to that argument? It's so easy to spot you guys' true colors. At least be honest and admit what your actual problem is instead of creating all these insincere arguments. No, I'm not accusing anyone of racism, either.
@@damgfulHe said "could" of, as in if they were going to go the whole, historically real playable character, route, which they did, they could have done it properly. "You Guys" lol. Yasuke was real, but was never a samurai, he literally carried weapons for a real samurai, yasuke was a glorified golf caddy... only studied history and specifically Asian history for the past 6 years so what would I know...
Also, in the United States there has been a large increase since 2020 of hate crimes on Asians perpetrated by the black community in cities. So Ubisoft making a game where you’re a black guy killing hundreds of Asians is in exceptionally poor taste.

I’m black, and a gamer. I think this is unbelievably stupid of Ubisoft. It’s 100% forced, woke, race baiting, DEI, nonsense. You can’t honestly look at this game and at the very least ask yourself, ‘but.. why’.. It’s just unnecessary and doesn’t fit. Every AC character has conveniently and correctly matched the setting the game took place in. There’s no need for some random, one off, black guy to be the main character in a samurai-era feudal Japan. There’s been millions upon millions of real and genuine Japanese people that they could’ve used. Like I said, this whole thing is off putting because it feels like nothing but forced race pandering.
On their defense, Yasuke was a real story from a man of African origin that served Nobunaga, head of the Oda clan, in the late 1500s around the final phase of the Sengoku period.
@@j.ebburts8393 The problem is, there is a big difference in being a low servant and a legendary samurai. lol There is just not enough information to confirm any theory actually.
I think some Jp cc said that they don't think Japanese people would care that much if it's just historically incorrect in a legendary black samurai. Thomas Lockley came to Japan in 2000. He initially lived in Tottori prefecture and taught English to elementary school children. His Wikipedia user name is Tottoritom, most likely because he used to live in Tottori.
Shinchō Kōki A black man of about 26 years old came, he was as black as a cow and looked healthy and strong. Nobunaga was happy to see rare things from various countries. Ietada nikki Nobunaga took Yasuke with him on his conquest, he was 182 cm tall. This is the complete history of Yasuke in Japan.😅
Reminds me of the children's show where the narrator always read two stories, a long and a short one. The short one was always the same and was as follows: The Large Dwarf There was a dwarf that was 1.80 metres tall. The End
The problem isn't the game. It isn't Lockley's book nor the publicity stunt surrounding it either: no one seriously gives a fuck about the historical accuracy of entertainment fantasy. The problem is the academic publication itself, the Wikipedia page edit and the Britannica citing Lockley as source. There has been 0 peer review on what he has said regarding Yasuke as a samurai as far as I know. Ubisoft just blew the casket open.
Yes, but why did they have to do those things? If the main character was ficitonal it would be fucking outrageous and blatantly offensive making him black, so they had to find a way to justify that decision. Notice how ZERO former AC protagonists were based on real people. Yasuke needed to be based on a real person and there needed to be at least some historical justification for his inclusion, or his inclusion would have been completely indefensible. Of course, it still is, but now they can at least argue on the basis of historical evidence rather than actually be honest about why they did what they did.
@@gamble777888Exactly this. They wanted a black samurai, and to make the main character a fictional black samurai would have been cultural appropriation. What to do? Oh, just make him Yasuke, that way it’s only second-degree cultural appropriation since he actually existed. Nobody would care if a Yasuke game came out, hell, most would probably play it. Ubisoft wanted to use him first, and decided to shoehorn him in Assassin’s Creed. Their first and only historical main character. It’s glaringly obvious.
@@gamble777888 I'm sure of that, I'm not certainly defending a policy of virtue signalling that tries to hold some historic ground. The point that I was trying to make is that the real issue here is the validity of the academic material the game stems from. The game itself will be forgotten soon enough, but Lockley's publications stood firm and were cited on reputable outlets for a substantial period of time without any serious peer reviewing. That is the main problem with this whole story, and the main reason why it's being brought up in parliament: it can actually cause lasting damage.
@@Synical02 Thats like the core of his character. Whats the point? Why not just make an japanese character, why not choose one of the other millions of japanese individuals? Like seriously... what are the odds that this random black dude, selected to be a main character? Its blatant. Its disgusting.
@@everybodylovesrayman467That's true, but why do you have to shove in a black dude in old Japan? A culture that was 99% japanese at the time. It's like Blqck Panther, I don't want to see a white MC in Wakanda.
For the record, it's not Yasuke that took Oda Nobunaga's head. It was a retainer named Mori Ranmaru, who's believed to be Oda's lover. He took Oda's head during Honno-ji incident on Oda's command, so it wouldn't fall into betrayer's hand and set the place on fire, burning Oda's body. (some source said that he didn't took the head, he just burn the temple) There is no record about what he did to the head, but Mori Ranmaru committed seppuku (performing honor suicide). So that diluted whitest of white man you can imagine steal someone's tragic historical moment, painted and replaced it with his black man fantasy and tell the world it's the fact.
This is not attacking they culture or traditions or even changing their history Ubisoft never said “THIS IS THE MOST HISTORICALLY ACCURATE GAME BASED ON JAPAN HISTORY “ if they did that would be a problem but since we know Assassins creed is a video game that never really had historical accuracy I don’t see the problem here they did apologize for misrepresenting the flag and certain things but not Yasuke plus there’s little information on Yasuke which allows room for creative fictional story telling
Really a shame how long the AC community and fans have waited for a Japanese themed AC game only for it to be this garbage and now we likely won't get another Japan themed game again or for a very long time. I hope modders can find a way to fix this for us fans.
Modders can't fix a game this fucked plot wise and potentially gameplay wise. Ubisoft chose the worst game to drop the ball with. If they had aced it, it would've been up there with the Ezio trilogy. Why don't they just have a character creation system in their games like so many others? That would make everyone happy. Have the "default" character be a more historically accurate one, but allow players who really want to change it change it.
all of this could have been avoided if they stuck to their usual formula: playing as a fictional character crossing paths with historical figures and inserted into important historical events, but they couldn't help themselves in forcing the player to be the most obscure black man in Japanese history - we could've just entered the court of Nobunaga and maybe had a sparring session with Yasuke or something, but no.
Exactly! Ubisoft could've totally used a made-up black character! But nooooooooooooooooooooo... Someone was too married to the idea of having Yasuke be the playable character that they didn't see how it could be problematic. If Yasuke was an NPC, it would be fine. But the fact we play as a real historical character? It now becomes in bad taste.
A lot of Ubisoft Defenders never look at it in a perspective of asking why or what the hell is going on. When many people started asking these question the true face of what Ubisoft is doing with this game is revealed. It's a soulless game, which anyone can tell they didnt put effort into making and hike up the price to 70$-130$ to scam their users.
It is about Ubisoft being racist and making the Samurai male protagonist black instead of Japanese because they are racist against Caucasians and Asians.

@@chrisanderson1-66 there were no magical popes, and gods either, but they somehow found their way into assassins creed. Also there were most likely female shinobi as there is a word for them, and they would have been very good for poison and spywork.
There is a reason James Clavell fictionalized the names in his novel Shogun. While loosely based on history, it differed enough that the work would have received negative criticism in Japan. Japan takes the representation of their history and culture seriously. I think the tipping point was Lockley's claims and the fact the Japanese text versions in his writings did not match the English text. Which you have pointed out. He thought he could hide his revisionism history from its entire host nation. That is just down right insulting.
Even having the female ninja makes no sense. Kunoichi were a thing - they 100% existed, and had a VERY distinct and specific role as shinobi. Male shinobi did most of we would consider "ninja" infiltration. Kunoichi existed more in the roles of modern spies - they became part of their target organization, and were activated when needed. Otherwise, they were handmaidens / courtesans / housewives, et al. They weren't combat fighters, they were embedded intelligence and assassins. Ubisoft has no idea what they're doing here.
Shinobi is a job. Some had training for this kind of job others didn't. They were Spies. Kunoichi is a modern word that did not existed during Nobunaga period.
They used Thomas Lockley "trust me bro" History about Japan as background without even fact check it. You can't expect them to have idea about what they're doing. They don't care about any of that, as long as it's about black, that's enough for DEI.
It could be they aware Kunoichi exist, but DEI refused to recognize "Gender" exist. Also what Kunoichi did on history was pretty political "Incorrect".
As I said when they announced he was gonna be in the game I thought "Oh cool, he's probably gonna be the connection to the Assassins'. That makes sense, he was a curiosity for Nobunaga's era. This isn't the first time Ubisoft has done this.
It takes decades to be a skilled with a sword. Most Feudal Japanese started training as kids. There's no way a foreigner is going to pick up a sword and be able to kill any trained samurai.
there is a reason why he was a no one. Yasuke is only known by people that study japanese history in a very deep level, you cant get anything about this in normal documents because no one cares. He wasnt a samurai, he was no one
@@robenriven Its even on the air if he was a samurai or not, but thats not really the important point. Its the same thing as being the owner of a company and puting your son on the payroll with a supervisor title, the guy might be a supervisor...but if it hasnt ever had education about that company or what it does its just a supervisor in name, same thing its for yasuke, it "might" be a samurai but only in name, i hightly doubt the guy knew about all the education, tradition, training and things that are needed to be a true samurai.
I agree, but the historical evidence states that Yasuke was huge. He was a spectacle, an outlier. So that’s why he’s not a good choice for samurai game. It’s like if an ancient Viking travelled to Mongolia he would be 20% taller & heavier (maybe more) with much bigger frame. So he’s not a good choice for a game about Mongolian battle tactics
These lunatics are still editing the wikipedia page, calling Yasuke a "samurai" even tho, there is no historical evidence, not even one, that mentions his rank; samurai. He was just a retainer.
More specifically, he was a kosho (akin to a page). Most koshos may eventually become full-blown samurais after undergoing intense training, but it is unlikely for Yasuke to be able to achieve such a thing because he only served Nobunaga for a short period of time before the Honnoji temple incident. Interestingly, Yasuke was also granted privileges such as stipends and a house. Not all followers of Nobunaga were able to get access to such privileges if they are not deemed worthy enough. So while Yasuke is unlikely to be a samurai, it is also unlikely for him to be a mere slave or a pet like many people suggested.
At some point this diversity quota has to tip over the top. Why isn't a game full of Asian and Japanese characters fitting the diversity quota? If it's not BLACK it's not good enough? Isn't it racism itself to say "if there isn't a black person in the movie/game, you're racists", regardless of ACCURATE historical data? Japanese history is incredible, and it's being downplayed and inaccurate by FORCING a black person to be the main character in an era he doesn't even belong. Well diversity is a vertical spectrum, with black lgbt females at the top and white cis males at the bottom. The higher on the spectrum, the more points you're worth. A fair skinned asian guy isn't worth much more points that a white guy, so gotta move it up the ladder a bit.
You're not seeing this from the correct framework. "Diversity" talk is not about diversity at all, even ethnic diversity. It's about black ethno-narcissism. Wherever there aren't blacks, blacks must be introduced and made to be important and relevant. That's what they're trying to do here: gaslight Japan into thinking black people were always a main feature of their history. They weren't, but this way the western guilt-tripping about race and slavery will work better in the future.

For those interested, I did look into Japanese sources about Yasuke and the consensus among Japanese historians is that Yasuke did exist in the form of a slave who was given to Oda Nobunaga by the Portuguese missionaries that owned him. He was an armed bodyguard for the Portuguese missionaries and Oda Nobunaga was fascinated by him and the Portuguese thus gave him over to Oda Nobunaga to improve political relations. Beyond that not much else is known about Yasuke. The only factual history is that he was a slave/entertainment/bodyguard for Oda Nobunaga but beyond that not much else is documented about him. There is one painting of Yasuke that is factual and is confirmed to be Yasuke the one where he is wrestling as a demonstration for Oda Nobunaga and that's about it Personally I've always been suspicious about Yasuke as the other foreign samurai always made big waves amongst Japanese historians/documentarians of the time era. The famous one being of course William Adams, there are so many different primary sources that documented pretty much all aspects of William Adams life in Japan. But for Yasuke there is very little which tells us that beyond being a slave or bodyguard for Oda Nobunaga he wasn't that widely known about in Japan and didn't do much else in Japan. His life also was probably pretty tough as he was basically a slave all his life and honestly the real story about Yasuke as a slave with a horrible life would be a thousand times more interesting than this historical fictional that Thomas Lockey has made up
I'm not sure which source it comes from, but I read that he became a vassal (also the case with William Adams). In that case it would be a semantic difference in regard to whether he was a "samurai". But it does seem likely he could have been a bodyguard and vassal.
@@Frantisek_Bobisud link one that does, I was unable to find any sources calling him a samurai except those that reference Thomas Lockley For example if you look up the Encyclopedia Britannica page for Yasuke it mentions multiple Japanese historians as the "source" but you then flip to the author of the Britannica page.... surprise surprise.... Fiction based on history is a thing that's been going on for a while
They claim it's just a game, but they also straight up claimed that this was a way to "learn about history" and, like you said, flaunted their "historical sources". So they are selling something, claiming it to be historically accurate, and then buyers are finding out after the fact that it isn't historically accurate. In fact, it's just one big virtue signal

I genuinely do not understand why Ubisoft would pick Yasuke, the first time they've ever used a real historical person as a main character too...what other reason did they pick him other than the fact that he's black? Is he known for winning any special battles? Was he a master swordsman? Was he a rebel? Was he highly decorated? Like what other reason did they choose him specifically other than him being a black samurai because that is his only claim to fame. Then we find out he probably wasn't even a samurai, he was maybe just the sword holder.
It's just odd when you think about it like that. This game would have legitimately been the easiest slam dunk for Ubisoft. People have been asking for this game from them for years, their top franchise's game mechanics are all built for this time period but some way some how they still manage to absolutely crap themselves. All they had to do is make it one character guy or girl and make them a ninja Assassin character. It could have been a slam dunk but no, they decide to use Yasuke and they used him in most of their marketing even though there's another character 😂
They just wanted to push their DEI agenda at the expense of the Japanese people.
The reason Ubisoft can't get away with this is that this is the same company who's game was so Autstically accurate (in a good way, for once) in AC Unity that when the Notre Dam burned down, they used in-game references to rebuild it. It was so accurate and true to life that it was a perfect 3D Model to use when rebuilding the Notre Dam. This same company is trying to rewrite Japanese history to fit western political standards, and is fucking up a lot of the historical architecture among other things. Most of the Architecture they're using in the game is Chinese, no Japanese. Yet that company wants to just say it's fans being racist? Nah. Ubisoft is the one being racist.

The characters also follow the same pattern, such as da Vinci. It is much the same thing with Yasuke in this game. He was a weapon bearer, not a samurai. The problem isn't the game. It isn't Lockley's book nor the publicity stunt surrounding it either: no one seriously gives a fuck about the historical accuracy of entertainment fantasy. There has been 0 peer review on what he has said regarding Yasuke as a samurai as far as I know.
Ubisoft just blew the casket open.
They rewrite lots of history in the name of "progress". Almost everything they use as evidence for their worldview is fake
I absolutely despise that passive aggressive "why do you even care?" mentality. Whoever asks that question must care so much about the perceived problematic nature of whatever the thing used to be such that they're compelled to change it.
I went to high school with an Afro centrist who truly believes the samurai, Vikings, and Aztecs were black, and the Japanese, whites, and Hispanics took and rewrote black history 🤦🏽

They had to make him gay too. For absolutely no narrative reason whatsoever.

People should understand that this is not really about the game. The main focus was on Yasuke's story being falsified by Thomas Lockley and others.
Also now black people in tiktok had 100% trust this and keep shouting about Japanese try to cover Black people history.
A lot of Ubisoft Defenders never look at it in a perspective of asking why or what the hell is going on. When many people started asking these question the true face of what Ubisoft is doing with this game is revealed. They didnt create this game out of passion or turn it into a masterpiece as GoT did, it's a Virtue Signal project. It's a soulless game, which anyone can tell they didnt put effort into making and hike up the price to 70$-130$ to scam their users.

@@ApsmneShsbshuthere were no female Ninja
Yeah, but thats not feministic enough for the woke west....
Kunoichi as female ninja didn't exist. I forgot the name of author, but it was a fictional role created in the Showa era.
As I said when they announced he was gonna be in the game I thought "Oh cool, he's probably gonna be the connection to the Assassins'. That makes sense, he was a curiosity for Nobunaga's era. He was also viewed as a lesser by the Samurai. Perfect person that could overhear the conversations that go on in Nobunaga's castle. He can keep tabs on the Japanese version of the Templar knights in this game. Then when they announced he was the male protagonist and they claimed he was a Samurai I was like "Fuck they got ahold of Lackey's shitty ass takes"
From now on, he will be known as "Yasuke, the legendary samurai that ended Ubisoft's entire legacy".
I think other companies see this as an example of not what to do. Don't mess other countries historical fact.

It's true that Shadows just had the misfortune of being the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of the "historical invasion" angle. It's the most viral and visible retelling of the Yasuke myth yet when people were already frustrated with this black power fantasy being injected into real history. It's not even Ubisoft in particular that people are angry with but the Yasuke story itself.
What people don’t seem to see is that we aren’t upset about the character being black because of racist ideals (maybe some, but not everyone), rather because of recent events. The last few years we’ve seen act after act of black washing characters and woke agendas, and going into this we expected to play as a Japanese male. After the reveal it was just one of those “oh boy here we go again” kind of moments.

Yes exactly. I'd have been irked the same amount if he were white or Latino. This isn't about who the main character is; rather it is just another example of Asian males being pushed aside or being treated second class on Western media.
As someone who just finished Ghost of Tsushima and Iki expansion, I don't think Shadows will come even slightest close to how good it Ghost of Tsushima is.

Yeah "It's just a game", the problem is they have their own "experts" insisting that Yuske is a real black samurai, instead of saying it's fiction.

There is one painting of Yasuke that is factual and is confirmed to be Yasuke the one where he is wrestling as a demonstration for Oda Nobunaga and that's about it
Personally I've always been suspicious about Yasuke as the other foreign samurai always made big waves amongst Japanese historians/documentarians of the time era.
Sure thing bub
