This really just depends on the car you have, I have a v6 camaro and I was able to make it backfire on the first and last methods a long time ago when it was stock, now I got a backfire tune and it sounds crazy
what's it doing to the clutch,, it's disengaged. I used to redline my mr2 and dump the clutch at stoplights and it lived a long happy life, I don't see what revving the engine alone is gonna do
@anonymous just bc you over Rev doesn't mean it's gonna pop. He is changing his exhaust, eliminating flow restriction from cat/resonator and stock muffler. Putting on a more open flow muffler that's straight pipe to it. When your dumping more fuel by reving or faster acceleration and quickly letting off after its dumped the extra fuel in, the exhaust stroke of the piston opens up with the excess fuel not completely burned due to the extreme drop in rpms. The excess fuel is detonating outside of the cylinder, resonating down the exhaust, which is the cause of the pops. I must say that having fuel detonate outside of the cylinder is not good for the motor. Since it's made to contain the detonation inside the cylinder and then leave on the exhaust stroke.
@anonymous revving the engine above the maximum RPMs that the manufacturer has deemed safe (i.e. redline) is Over Rev. When you rev and then quickly lift, the rpms start to drop, excess unburned fuel is dumped into the header. The fuel ignites in the header instead of in the cylinder - that causes the popping.
@anonymous maybe in some cars you have to program it to pop. But my car, in its factory state, crackels and pops at 3k up to 7k. If I'm cruising at 60mph on interstate and let off the throttle bc I'm getting off on an exit, it will crackle and pop. I don't have to Rev to make it crackle or pop. Js.
