@@Loanshark753 That is a thing already on every car, It is called brakes. Brakes get very hot and dump that heat very fast, a lot of it goes through the wheel and heats the air in the tyre in turn heating the rubber.
@@NotCommanderShepard This is correct! The normal road tire in both motorbikes and cars is not designed to run hot. It's designed to run at anywhere from ambient temperature to amb x 2 ... any hotter than that it will overheat and become greasy. It's the same as using race tires if you cannot maintain the temperatures in the tires. Road tire starts to lose grip at surface temp of about 70 degrees celsius. Racing slick only begins to work properly at temperatures 85+ degrees celsius. A racing slick can operate as hot as 150 degrees celsius and still have bite, this depends on the manufacturer of course. But if you overheat a racing slick, it will become just as greasy as overheated road tire.
3 seconds doesn't sound like a lot but on a minute-and-a-half lap, it's a whole different performance class. If memory serves, that was about how much faster the last Viper ACR was against the same-year Z06 at Laguna Seca when tested by the Motor Trend guys. It translated to 12-13 seconds faster on the Nordschleife.
I'm wondering if pressure was taking into account... Mr2 weights about 1180kg and has no downforce, F1 cars weighted arround 750kg when these tyres were used, but they produce up to 3750 kg of downforce which would put these tyres under a total of 4500 kg of force, actually increansing contact patch. So yeah, I think cold pressures should be way lower when installing these tyres in street cars to try to compensate to the lack of downforce so the contact patch is actually consisten with their real use case.
Man this is such great content coming from you guys. Been following y'all for close to a year now, even took a fundy course, great to see you guys pushing your development!
More of this please. There is a hole in our lives that can only be filled by guys doing silly stuff with cars, and that hole has been getting bigger the past few years. So I'd love if you filled my hole... No, sorry..
Considering this is like putting the hardest set of tires, plastic drifting tires, on an RC car, what tires would be like putting the Foam tires from a 1:12 scale pan car on a 1:1 automobile?
When the aerodynamics actually keep those tires planted down on those light vehicles at high rates of speed FYI those vehicles don't supply or Dynamics like an F1
When I first started watching Scott's stuff it was quite dry but inciteful, now I feel like we're seeing the real mad bastard Scott and co come out! More please!
Thats a pretty good choice in vehicle and stance too. The wheels have an extremely wide stance like F1, and it's mid engine. If it could sit lower it would be almost perfect
I'd love to know more about these tires and where they came from. They could be 'show tires' which were never designed to be driven on. I suspect they are show tires because as far as i know Pirelli take race spec tires back and destroy them in order to protect trade secrets (and also say they recycle all used rubber because it's good PR). Or they may be race used which means they have less tread depth and wont have anywhere near as much grip as they should.
Correct, Pirelli takes back and destroys ALL f1 tires and have since around 2011. So, if this IS a set of actual F1 tires, and not a show or fake set, (which are exceedlingly rare) they are at least 13 years old and would be unlikely to perform anywhere near modern tires.
imagine Taking your car to the mechanic because of some minor adjustments he had to make and when you come back your car is all chopped up 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 great vid guys !
Looks like an overgrown RC Car.
With plastic Drifting Tires. Can't get the F1 Tires warm enough and don't have enough downforce.

F1 teams really need to hire these guys! 3 sec a lap gained for only £11,000... imagine the improvements with the budget of an F1 team!
They were already hired. They are the reason for Ferrari's pace.

Early top gear 2.0?
@@big_fox48 grazie
funny how this channel is kind of like donut media
The fact they did this without a roll bar is insane haha
Would be interesting to see what happens if you just use the tyre warmers on the road tyres then go for a lap 🤔
You just broke the whole video.
What about embedding tirewarmers on the inside of the tires.
@@Loanshark753 That is a thing already on every car, It is called brakes. Brakes get very hot and dump that heat very fast, a lot of it goes through the wheel and heats the air in the tyre in turn heating the rubber.
I'd assume they'd lose their grip if heated to higher temps than 90 degrees celcius, thus making the car slower.

Now I wanna see the full wets, I think they should work at lower temperatures so they might be way better in a normal car lol
imho inters would do better if it's not really raining just damp at worst and ~15+ °C
Yep low temp racing tired makes way more sense
Yeah the big grooves would probably be good for a really rainy day
The video wouldn't be as funny though lol
yeah and they are softer so probably more grip
Frankly I'm impressed that the tire didn't go flat when it was in the wheelwell
Winner of a style/format you got here 100%

Would you be able to get the same 3 seconds with a properly sized set of racing tires that are up to temp? I know that's not the point just curious.
Not even racing tire. Just aggressive compound like Cup 2s or RE71rs.
Lol I think some ps4s’s could do it. Fun video though.
I'd say properly sized tires would get even better gains due to better stability and control

The cold pressures were low for those tyres, 18psi all round
but that's the max downforce (high speed) where tyres don't matter they matter in mid& slow speed corners, traction
The 3rd gen mr2 weighs less than 1000 kilos
@@shingosshojiopoulos6608 Thank you was just about to comment this, 980kg if I’m not mistaken

It needs a smaller contact patch!
That would increase rolling resistance.
