We put Formula 1 Tires on a Toyota MR2 and SENT IT at a track to see if they make it faster. And yes, we had some issues along the way.

I put F1 Tyres on a Normal car to make it faster - and we’ve brought it to our racetrack to prove I’m right. Now we tried this on a racecar and it worked perfectly (Tescos clip), so we’re putting it on a road-legal 130 horsepower Toyota - because why not. More grip = more fast AND more safe. What could go wrong? Now you can’t deny his optimism, but you have to agree - he’s wrong. We tried this before and they had zero grip - we just couldn’t get them warm enough.

What about embedding tirewarmers on the inside of the tires.
@@Loanshark753 That is a thing already on every car, It is called brakes. Brakes get very hot and dump that heat very fast, a lot of it goes through the wheel and heats the air in the tyre in turn heating the rubber.
F1 teams really need to hire these guys! 3 sec a lap gained for only £11,000... imagine the improvements with the budget of an F1 team!

Down force/weight are also probably a huge factor to get the most of the tyres.

MR2 Spyder is an underrated car🤷♂️ With a couple body mods, some wheels, tires, and suspension it can actually look really nice.
Not underrated anymore. People now know they are very close to an Elise and they are selling of allot of money now

Now I'm curious if you'd be able to keep the tires at temp without a massive amount of downforce
3 seconds doesn't sound like a lot but on a minute-and-a-half lap, it's a whole different performance class. If memory serves, that was about how much faster the last Viper ACR was against the same-year Z06 at Laguna Seca when tested by the Motor Trend guys. It translated to 12-13 seconds faster on the Nordschleife.
Would you be able to get the same 3 seconds with a properly sized set of racing tires that are up to temp? I know that's not the point just curious.
Not even racing tire. Just aggressive compound like Cup 2s or RE71rs.

I'd say properly sized tires would get even better gains due to better stability and control

Man this is such great content coming from you guys. Been following y'all for close to a year now, even took a fundy course, great to see you guys pushing your development!
I'm wondering if pressure was taking into account... Mr2 weights about 1180kg and has no downforce, F1 cars weighted arround 750kg when these tyres were used, but they produce up to 3750 kg of downforce which would put these tyres under a total of 4500 kg of force, actually increansing contact patch.
So yeah, I think cold pressures should be way lower when installing these tyres in street cars to try to compensate to the lack of downforce so the contact patch is actually consisten with their real use case.
Also they should weld ginormous spoilers all over it.
The cold pressures were low for those tyres, 18psi all round
but that's the max downforce (high speed) where tyres don't matter they matter in mid& slow speed corners, traction
The 3rd gen mr2 weighs less than 1000 kilos

I thought pinks where better than purples, idk about how fast they warm up tho
Would be interesting to have seen what temperature you got the f1 tyres to. That way we can see how much of f1 downforce is in play vs tyre mechanical grip.

That would increase rolling resistance.
Considering this is like putting the hardest set of tires, plastic drifting tires, on an RC car, what tires would be like putting the Foam tires from a 1:12 scale pan car on a 1:1 automobile?

Thats a pretty good choice in vehicle and stance too. The wheels have an extremely wide stance like F1, and it's mid engine. If it could sit lower it would be almost perfect

I'd love to know more about these tires and where they came from. They could be 'show tires' which were never designed to be driven on. I suspect they are show tires because as far as i know Pirelli take race spec tires back and destroy them in order to protect trade secrets (and also say they recycle all used rubber because it's good PR). Or they may be race used which means they have less tread depth and wont have anywhere near as much grip as they should.
Correct, Pirelli takes back and destroys ALL f1 tires and have since around 2011. So, if this IS a set of actual F1 tires, and not a show or fake set, (which are exceedlingly rare) they are at least 13 years old and would be unlikely to perform anywhere near modern tires.
I wonder how much quicker it'd be with slicks designed for lower loads and more importantly a set that actually fit lol

It's a mystery to me that Drivetribe has >2M subscribers while this channel is only up to 160K subs so far. Admittedly, the Driver61 is pushing to wards 1M subs, but this channel is more fun, and absolutely more entertaining that Drivetribe. On the plus side, Social Blade estimates this channel makes proportionally more money than Drivetribe against subscriber numbers, so I am hoping this video might pay for itself. From us, the viewer's, point of view, I hope the channel does well because we want to see more videos.
