    I just started in August in Fontana on the P&D team, (Local) and after a bit of a learning curve, I like it. I think I'll give it 6 months before I say I love it. If I don't love it, I'll look into going OTR. I don't mind the snow or throwing chains. Slow and steady is the key to a safe winter season.

    I'm certainly done with trucking but I was curious about what a Walmart driving job is like, since we have a full-time Walmart driver here in the Army motorpool. He's part-time casual with us. This guy has told me that, yes, it's still trucking, and filled me in on a few experiences but I wanted to know more. I've watched several of your videos and have enjoyed them. Thanks for posting!

    • @20plustrucking

      I appreciate you watching the channel thank you. My goal has been to show my experiences working for Walmart out here in the west and how I react to it. I know it can be a lot different in different parts of the country but overall it's more similar than it is different looking at all the Walmart drivers working nationwide. That's what makes our culture that is still alive but not nearly as strong as it was when I first came here 17 years ago. I have no doubt this job is something special compared to most trucking jobs in this nation because I like to go to work everyday and continue to stay here for all these years 17 all together. Most all the Walmart drivers I met over time basically feel the same. A lot of the Walmart TH-camrs illustrate the step-by-step things that have to do with this job and I'm more about how my day or week has gone and what I think about that or how I handle it. After all these years I'm definitely set in my ways because so far they've always served me well to continue on with safe driving and good standing with work.

    Why do people act like driving through snow Is that big of a deal? It's not like it's winding narrow ravines lol. It's just a highway with snow on it. Just go slow chain up. You'll be fine. Yes chaining up is a pain in the ass sometimes but it's not like it's year round. It's just a few months out of the year. Man up.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly how I feel about it. I don't think snow is really the problem It's people that can't drive worth beans on dryland let alone wet a surface. It may seem simply cut and dried if somebody hits you because they can't drive but the problem is the truck driver generally gets the blame and it ruins that person's chance of getting a good job or getting the most out of their livelihood. Also there's a massive difference between being in the Midwest on flat ground with snow and ice and being on a grade constantly. In the end the truck driver must take responsibility for everything to try to prevent problems from happening caused by other people.

      Yes, bending a rim, turning a corner would be considered a preventable but I think it would be considered an incident not an accident. Snow driving tips? You drive on ice?

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Every winter I drive on ice and snow. I realized a long time ago when it comes to snow and icy roads I'm not the problem everyone else around me is. So my number one goal is to stay far away from everyone else as I can and don't speed. People tend to gather together in groups and then one person screws up then they all crash together. If you have to slow down and let them all go ahead of you or if you catch up to a slow vehicle or two safely go around them and get them behind you. It sucks to have to put chains on but you have maximum traction with them on so don't be like everyone else and try to get away with not putting them on just do it.

      What do you mean weird pay cut off times? The end of the pay period is exactly at the same time every two weeks Friday night at midnight. I don't know how you can get any more straightforward than that. As far as slip seating goes yes you will be doing that in the beginning but it doesn't last that long you'll eventually have your own truck based on what you decide your schedule will be. Although I know some DCs are different than others so maybe slip seating is a big issue at your DC compared to others. There's always going to be something where you need to pay your dues in that first year no matter where you work.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The thing is Walmart doesn't make their drivers drive in dangerous situations. They're okay if you think you should pull over and wait it out if you don't think it's safe. I personally think if you're a real truck driver then putting chains on and driving in the snow is perfectly safe if you know what you're doing. I haven't made it through all the snow storms for the last 21 years driving a truck with no tickets or accidents because of dumb luck.
