All the micro time savings with no keys, no engine start up, auto doors, GPS always on display is so good. The comfort to extend the stamina of the delivery drivers, going to electric to save gas and charge and walk away at the end of day, minimum maintenance. All looks like a good long term investment and a good productivity booster.
Agreed, even a few seconds saved on each delivery not having to turn the engine on and off, it all adds up. I worked as a delivery driver for UPS a decade ago, they wouldn't let us use GPS because they wanted us to mentally map out our routes. Glad that shit is over, at least for Amazon drivers, hopefully for other companies too. Let the technology do the route mapping and the driver can focus on safe driving.
This is where Electric is an optimal best fit and makes sense: scenarios with frequent start/stop and lot of miles traveled each day. It makes sense too for people who drive 15K+ miles each year in daily city/regional trips that can recharge the battery to full each night. Outside of those scenarios, as a vehicle with the most versatility and best cost/value ratio, it is not the best fit for a large portion of the population. This is just plain truth.

Yes, Tesla really missed the boat by focusing so much mental energy on the Cybertruck which is for a rather small market of enthusiasts. There’re a huge, huge market for last mile delivery vans. For a young company, Rivian really hit a home run with the EDV. I believe all those micro time savings all day long and improved worker comfort will result in measurable savings for companies delivering with the EDV - the electric propulsion is almost secondary to the savings from features that could be on any type of van.
@@travisjazzbo3490 The various Models 3 since the highland design refresh are really good cars at an almost affordable price. Tesla almost has a lock on the electric sedan market inside the US, but globally there is fierce competition from the Chinese car makers whose cars, for now, aren’t quite as nice, but are much less expensive than Tesla’s cars. The US is a big automotive market, but it isn’t the global market. Tesla made a strategic error putting so much into developing the Cybertruck which can only be sold in a few national markets, while failing to develop a less expensive vehicle to sell globally.

Not gonna lie... i was an amazon driver and it SUCKED! I tried. I honest to god tried. No lie. It was in NYC and i was sweating my ass off in the summer. Broken AC's. Overly sensitive devices that track you. They sent my ass to brooklyn. There were some narrow ass drives over there. So someone decided to pull out. So i had to back up about a foot or 2 to let them out. I had alot of packages on that block. The sensor recorded that and sent that to my boss. That counted towards my "points" are whatever. I was dying of heat stroke. And i had to climb multiple flights of stairs at complexes that had no elevator and i couldnt leave packages in the lobby. One building DID have a door man and she said it was ok. I had over 50 packages for him and there was a huge ass pile. I was so happy for that lol I had to carry about 300 pounds of kitty liter up 5 flights of stairs because... no elevator. I was in yhe worst neighborhoods while my other co-workers had the best routes. I understand not everyone can have the same thing. I completely get that. BUT DAMN! It sucked ass. I swear it was the worst job i ever had. When it came to my lunch break where they force you to log out of the system or whatever. I was still droping off packages. In fact other people told me to do that un order to finish my load quicker. Then if you finished your route they made you do someone elses route!!! So if i got done by 2 or 3 they would give me 150 more packages from someone else to do there share. Jesus christ. I hated it. Then they wanted people to sign up to drive the even bigger trucks. Not the vans but the trucks for an extra dollar an hour. Anyway. All im saying is that i didnt have this guys experience. Not at all. AND every other road was under construction AND most of the highway exits and entrances. This must be a "small town". Cuz NYC kicked my ass. So i obviously switched to work in the warehouse they set up the packages. Not deliever them shortly afterwards. This made me vow to never take a job delivering anything to anyone ever again. It's somewhat a point of contention here. A lot of people complain about how Amazon drivers never knock, but at the same time it's part of how drivers are able to keep up with the insane amount of packages they are handed, making every second count.

great vid, of course i gotta ask. how much battery do you use on average, and has the algorithm ever under estimated how much charge is needed to complete a shift?
As a delivery driver I'm jealous of 2 main things on the rivian (though are much more common in US anyway) The access to the rear from the cab and the sliding passenger door and being able to step out rather than climb out while trying to not get pulled out by the door on windy days. Would save me so much time and effort climbing in and out every stop. Not that its hard but couple hundred times a day adds up real fast on top of being manual so thousands of clutch uses too and my knees aren't getting younger.. The proximity locking on the keyless system is nice too but I deliver in rural area so not so important for me
165 stops? I did some rough math based on an 8-hour shift a short 30 minute lunch break and a 10 minute break. That's one package every 2 minutes and 39 seconds. Crazy with driving time, parking, finding the package in the back, walking back and forth, etc...

Truly awesome vehicle! Must be why a driver delivered my package and waited for a fuel powered Ford Transit van to transfer half his load so he could hopefully make it back to the warehouse. He said 10-15 miles ago it said he had 162 miles of range left. When he got to my house he only had 58.
You could maybe screenshot the screen and move it to a non damaged section. Also you should tear off the protective film on your windshield, it could block your view. Apply some heat to remove it properly. You are very nice driver, man.

As an Amazon customer living in an HOA, I appreciate how quiet the EDVs are and reduced exhaust emissions from them versus diesel delivery vehicles. Glad to hear that they are a hit with Amazon drivers.
As a DA who drives these things daily....I'll say this: *1. They do make delivering way easier than driving any other van, whether it's a Dodge/Ford/sprinter simply because there's no key to turn on/off. The passenger side door is great! The added shelving system also makes stacking totes/over-flow a lot easier! *2. Rivian 'craftsmanship' sucks a$$! My DSP recently added 12 new EV's in the last 2 months and yet, over half of them are already "grounded" for various issues, mostly having to do with "electronic sensors"....Errors about turn signals not working, when in fact they are! Sensors indicating the back-door is open, even though it's closed! TPMS sensors indicating low tire pressure, even though they're all at the suggested PSI (When cold) and a few that have issues w/Cruise Control not working! We're talking about EV's that fresh off the assembly line and have less than 10 miles on them!
In June 24 I saw that EDV in Berlin-Spandau the first time huming along the small 3m lane between the gardens. I did some gardening and enjoyed the elegance of that big pack hovering by. Thank you for sharing your work day in few pictures using that nice utility.
As a Rivian investor, good to hear the workers love the van. I still wonder what is the bottom line of cost of owner ownership compared to ICE vehicles.
I worked delivery for like 3 days in winter. Sliding down snowy hills slipping walking a country mile up rich peoples drive ways. Had 3 days off felt like i was gunna blow out my knee. If i went in another day was about to walk out the door to go to work and said screw it, i dont even have health care yet." I cant blow out my acl after 1 week. But it was a cool job.
I liked the all around cameras on the EV. The amount I could snake through some narrow spots with those was so good. I did one really narrow spot I shouldn't have, then a bit later in the regular van and thought to myself "How da fuq did I get the EV through this?" They are great on main streets but uggggggghhhh in tight apartment parking lots and narrow streets. We serviced a couple towns that the regular van barely fit, let alone the Rivian.

Nevertheless that's how it's done. Each route is calculated based on the length and number of packages to deliver, as a loop out from and back to the hub. There could be a dozen or more routes from each hub, and every day they'll be different. You just can't manually and efficiently work out that kind of complexity, you need a computer algorithm.
I just hope for a civilian version of this van. My dad always used to daily drive the Ford Econoline van. The ultimate in terms of utility. But now you can also have low cost of ownership with EV.
Still cannot wrap my mind around the fact that you guys are just dropping parcels on the front porch. In Europe we have standard mailboxes locked with keys which can contain most of parcels and if the parcel is too big, the delivery guy will ring the bell or if we are not at home, he will put it somewhere safe after calling us, we would never leave a parcel in such a open and visible place.

Ok so I'm at 1:26 and I already hate Amazon. They seriously have some AI create and assign new routes for everybody, every day? WTF? This is ridiculous. Drivers should just kinda own certain areas so they can get to know the roads and regular delivery areas. Fewer problems and accidents that way. Plus better accountability when there is a problem.
For Friday night, most Jewish people are going to head to the local synagogue for Shabbat Service, which celebrates the time of rest or Sabbath. Similar to how Christians regard Sunday/Saturday, Jewish people take the period starting Friday night (per Jewish custom, nights are considered the start of the next "day") and then have another shorter service Saturday night to break the Sabbath.
Would have appreciated some of this tech at usps.

I never would have believed I’d be so interested in a day in the life of an Amazon driver. But I was.
Good on Rivian for listening to the drivers to make a van! Great company
The amount of optimization Amazon put into logistics of filling and moving parcels is astounding. Like the self locking doors when you walk away.
the kids that helped you were too nice!
the lockers at 5:25 are such a good idea for apartments and stuff
As an apartment resident, I agree, they are pretty great as I can pick my package up whenever.
What it tells you about the dominance of Amazon that at the cost of the landlord, a specified locker can be bought and installed.
There's a few Amazon and other companies' parcel lockers near where I live but I've never seen a private one.
funfact: not sure about other countries in europe, but in Poland theese lockers (called paczkomat, made by company InPost) are super popular, basically everywhere. Personally, I adore them and always choose them over a tradidtional delivery, and many people do.
@@bartosz5029 Yeah in the US they have them in grocery stores and convenience stores too. Very nice. But USPS and other mail companies use them too for all my packages.

It still amazes me Tesla never went and built a delivery van, it would have definitely been a better move than the Cybertruck.
Tesla makes very few rational decisions. The fanboys keep that company alive, for now.
@@ayatollahlalalola Yeah... Tesla destroying in this business of EVs has no idea what it's doing at all. LOL

Do u have ac in those vans?
Nice that you can run the truck in the warehouse without choking everyone with fumes.
I was so happy for that lol
I had to carry about 300 pounds of kitty liter up 5 flights of stairs because... no elevator.
Edit: if he is happy with it then im happy for him. I just wanted to convey my horrible experience.
NYC just sucks in general, no job there can be pleasant.
Sounds 500% terrible so yes wtf not worth the money
@@SpongeBob.Ripped yeah i mean, if someone is happy with it then thats fine. But for me. Me, personally i hated it.

sorry to hear that man, I deliver in Utah and its all houses and suburbs over hear. the roads are pretty big and easy to navigate, even downtown. I've been to NYC and I saw some amazon drivers, i cant imagine how they do it over there, the streets are crap so i understand that, overall i think you just got a crappy city. My experience has been pretty alright, i have good dispatchers too. If i was you, I'd probably quit as well lmao.
@@jasonruiz919 yeah dude i was praying for the suburbs and thats what i signed on for, BUT apparently in their ultimate wisdom, they decided that Jersey would take over staten island and Staten island would take over brooklyn and manhattan. I swear man i was pissing brown. I had the pee bottles i swear to god.
Also when i was in a jewish neighborhood they asked me to turn off some of their lights as it was apart of their custom for a specific holiday or practice. Im not too familiar with their culture.
BUT i remember it clearly. The sun was setting in the late after noon. I was running with a cart full of packages. I think i had 80 or so. I was sweating bullets and the sidewalk was not at all level.
So they asked me to turn off a few lights. I asked if they were sure. They said yeah.
I turned off their lights. Maybe 3. Gave them their package. And left with a piece of cake that they gave me. I thanked them. I went outside and within 6 seconds the cake was gone. I swallowed it.
That gave me the strength to finish my route. After that i finished my route. Then i got stuck in traffic from the tailend of brooklyn and went ALL the way back to the island.
I swear to jesus. It was a bunch of bullshit.
Also here is the kicker. Aparently the same week i was hired was the week that they switched to downtown brooklyn and i had NO IDEA until i was going over the bridge! I was pissed off!!
Here i am expecting suburbs and a few places of business and INSTEAD im sent to the crack head neighborhoods.
I parked on the side of the road. And some lady was yelling at me. I said "what?" And she was telling me not to park there because i would get ROBBED!
I had to delivery what i can only assume was about 2 thousand dollars in that area.
Fuck. That. Shit.

Bro! I heard you quitting Amazon!! 😢 I love your Amazon grinds like you put us out there to the world that delivering grinding is not easy. 😢
Agreed. It's not easy
As a delivery driver I'm jealous of 2 main things on the rivian (though are much more common in US anyway)
The access to the rear from the cab and the sliding passenger door and being able to step out rather than climb out while trying to not get pulled out by the door on windy days.
A lot of overtime.
Appreciate the videos, updates and much more. More so appreciate you my friend for what you do!

Absolutely. I’ve delivered in this edv and the gas powered vans. This is so much better. Like 10,000 times better.
As an Amazon customer living in an HOA, I appreciate how quiet the EDVs are and reduced exhaust emissions from them versus diesel delivery vehicles. Glad to hear that they are a hit with Amazon drivers.
As a DA who drives these things daily....I'll say this:

It's bizarre to me that in the USA you just dump packages on the doorstep 😂
That's the way it should be for all online orders. If you want human interaction, go to a shop!
Unfortunately, porch pirates then steal the packages. Some follow the truck, and steal them as fast as they are dropped off.

The way he refers to “the algorithm” is kinda creepy. Like some overlord type shit lol.
Algorithms are just math.

America is awesome. I've met 2 British people before, one lived here and the other was visiting. I talked to both of them and the one who lived here said he knew he was a redneck at heart.
