Nice video Rick. A couple points that I’d like to make. What is on the 4 sides of the trailer? When I did onboarding, I also missed the hazardous placard holders and the snap pins that worked. Also, what is not on the list (i don’t know if it is included now or not included) With the hood open, I did move the hood and told the tester the hood stays in place by the hydraulic polls and the inner light housing chambers are in place and not moving also, the interior or behind the hood shows no damage. Back then, the tester said what I checked behind the hood was not on the list but they appreciated the extra check. When I did my onboarding, I practiced my pre trip while I was in my hotel room a few times to remember what I needed to check (tried to emulate the pre trip by memory). Hope that information helps others who do onboarding. Heed Rick’s advice and mine and you all will be just fine. Watch the testers, take your notes, show them that you’re invested in the information that you’re hearing and do the pre trip just like they do. That how I did it and I made it in to Walmart and have been here for a few years.

@@mr.ComnandoSpawn Can you be more specific? If you're talking about trip paperwork, that depends on the trip. For mixed grocery loads, the trip paperwork is most often only two pages. One is the trip sheet with trip#, stops, weight, etc. The other is a seal card, tracking seal integrity throughout the trip. For GM loads, there is a BOL showing type and amount of hazmat units, if any. There's a seal card on these trips, as well. That's pretty much it. Backhaul paperwork varies wildly.

Hey rich, thanks for making these videos. They have been very helpful for me in making the decision to apply with the associate driving program. I have a question. How do drivers handle a family emergency while out on the road?
@@derrickmcelveen9674 You simply inform the coordinators of your problem, and they'll figure out a way to get you either home or back to your DC.
Ok thanks
Hey Rich!! How often do you placard a hazmat load if ever?
@@grizzstud22 I have yet to do a placarded hazmat load in the 5 years I've been here. The most I've ever seen on one trailer is like 30 lb of Bic lighters, propane tanks, or something similar. To be fair, I pull mostly from a grocery DC. Other DC's may have more placarded loads than us.
I’m starting onboarding sept 2nd. Do you do a pre trip every skill day? Or only once and then the days of backing and forward driving you just do the skills and no pre trip before?
@@nathangeist3181 you do driving, backing, and pretrip assessments each day tue, wed, & thu. 9 total assessments. If you fail 5 by Wed you're out.
In total, you need to pass 3 driving, 2 backing, and 1 pretrip by thu to advance, and all 3 on thu. Some may need to return Fri for a final assessment if needed.

Hi Rich, what are the most common schedules drivers receive? Wondering if the 5-2/5-3 is pretty standard.
@@theflood24 at my DC, the most common is a regular 5/2, with 5/2-5/3 running 2nd. When you first start out at a DC however, your chances of being put into a 5/2-5/3 or similar program are probably greater. This may also change from DC to DC
@@getrichwalmart thank you for the info. I’ve had my cdl for close to 5 years. Working 70+hours a week, 6 days a week for a local company. Very good company but not enough money. There is a Walmart DC about 5 miles from me so I have been intrigued for a while.
@@theflood24 being that close, I'd be all over it. With seniority, you'll fall into whatever schedule you want. Better to start sooner than later.

Nice video Rick. A couple points that I’d like to make. What is on the 4 sides of the trailer? When I did onboarding, I also missed the hazardous placard holders and the snap pins that worked. Also, what is not on the list (i don’t know if it is included now or not included)
With the hood open, I did move the hood and told the tester the hood stays in place by the hydraulic polls and the inner light housing chambers are in place and not moving also, the interior or behind the hood shows no damage. Back then, the tester said what I checked behind the hood was not on the list but they appreciated the extra check.
When I did my onboarding,
I practiced my pre trip while I was in my hotel room a few times to remember what I needed to check (tried to emulate the pre trip by memory).

For GM loads, there is a BOL showing type and amount of hazmat units, if any. There's a seal card on these trips, as well.
