  • Ducati Panigale V2 vs Suzuki GSXR 750 - Airfield drag race | Knox armour
A few months ago, we had the Ducati Panigale V2 for a few weeks and as part of our shoot, we visited the Airfield to do some high-speed riding. Our Suzuki GSXR 750 is pretty famous now on the Knox channel and it doesn’t take much imagination to figure out we had an opportunity for an epic drag race - The Ducati Panigale V2 vs Suzuki GSXR 750. The modern middleweight superbike vs the original. - Game on!
After about an hour of testing, the results were convincing. The Panigale V2 had absolute topside of the GSXR in every test we performed from the 0-140mph sprint to the in-gear tests we did 40-120mph in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears.
Whether it was the immediate punch from a standing start or the in-gear drive, the Panigale showed itself to be incredibly powerful. The in-gear performance was incredible and to be honest, left my GSXR 750 for dead, there really wasn’t any debate!
The Ducati Panigale V2 is an incredibly powerful motorcycle that proved itself more than a match for the iconic GSXR 750, providing fantastic power and drive with ease of use and a level of stability which gives you the confidence to hold the throttle to the stop in areas you may be backing off on a 1000cc superbike. Very impressive!
This was confirmed later on a recent track day at Donington Park where I was riding in the same group as the “Art of Racing” team who compete in the Ducati Trioptions cup. While these were race bikes with experienced racers piloting them, what we saw at the airfield was reflected here, the Panigale V2 showing my GSXR a clean pair of heels all day long!
So, our the conclusion is, the Ducati Panigale V2 is a fast motorcycle and we think that if you want a fast superbike but aren’t quite ready for the mental top end of a modern 1000cc superbike, check the V2 out. It has most of the punch that a 1000cc has but is easier to manage and maximise on road and track! Ironically, more or less the same proposition of the GSXR 750 10-15 years ago! 😊

Stunning that a bike that has barely changed since 2011 can be even near a brand new state of the art bike. Imagine how good it would be with modern electronics and a little bit of development. This class is the one that has the most meaning for road based sports bikes.

The GSX-R was not even from 2011, it's the older 2008-10 model in the video, according to the front head lights, which was 7 kg heavier than the 2011 model.

@@muckle8 Traction control and ABS are quite interesting to use. My bike has several TC settings, including how much wheelie and wheelspin, and it's amazing how you can hang the rear out with controlled wheelspin without too much danger of highsiding or lowsiding. Or you can choose no wheelspin and the bike accelerates so smoothly even over bumps.
Of course you can turn all that off, but then the bike becomes quite difficult to ride. 1000cc bikes make a lot of power and I'm not using the best of tires.

I have tried to get myself to buy a Yamaha and also a Suzuki. But somehow the styling of Jap bikes is not well thought out I think. Only the Hayabusa is really good looking - only from the side. While riding it, the fairings and how they are attached to the bike look really very cheap. I am a Ducati or BMW guy. I bought 8 bikes, and could never buy a Jap bike. I tried so many times but never felt excited. They just look cheap and plastic to me. Even the engine of a Ducati is a work of art. The truss rods, handlebars, the clean look, and the sound of the engine is like a heartbeat for me. The sound of a Ducati engine melts with my heartbeat. I have never felt so connected to anyone or anything in my life. Even cleaning my Ducati for 2 minutes gives me a smile. I have owned so many bikes but a Ducati is like a dream. Everyone should try to own one. It is an experience like no other. And I also own and fly planes btw. A Ducati is as classy as flying a private jet.

To me, I believe the GSX-R750 is best understood as yardstick motorcycle. It’s handling, acceleration, and top speed, combined with the absolute lack of electronic aids, mean that the bike is never at fault for slow times. It’s fully capable of 5.5 to 6.0 second 0-100mph, 1/4 miles in the 10.5 range, can carry the same speed through corners that a 600 can, and is only ever really let down by the rider.
Neeves said it best, the GSX-R750 is the essence of sport riding.

When shifted properly, this puts you back into the meat of the power band in the next gear…and so on. Do a little research.

Yes, although it did surprise me, definately thought it would be closer. Think the fact that the V2 is missing a couple of cylinders makes up for the fact its a 950 in comparison to the 750. Yes, definitely agree, I think if Suzuki re-worked the 750 with modern tech like the VVT that's in the 1000r and maybe took it to 160 ish hp at the crank, it would be a winner! Aaron KNOX

Not much closer.. the new L generation are same engine more or less and while a few kg lighter, wouldn't make that much difference, especially in the roll on tests. Since this test though, I have changed the gearing quite a lot which would make it much easier to get off the line and improves the response. To make it fair the GSXR needs a dyno run remap to de-restrict it. Otherwise it doesnt have full throttle opening in the lower gears. Also if you add a can and decat to the remap it gains 8 hp and 4lbs torque. Much smoother power and faster pick up.

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  ปีที่แล้ว

The GSXR is remapped and power is 131hp at rear wheel which is about what they make. Gearing change which is now done would have made a difference, but still dont think it would quite match the V2 acceleration. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

Good video, the launches weren’t fast enough in my opinion on the 750. If your front tire isn’t about to come off of the ground you’re going too slow. My 2011 gsxr beat 848’s-675’s-and some older 1000’s. It’s all about the rider. (Unless that Ducati is just that amazing)
