he tried to commit suicide, and he was gonna do it again. This time properly. That's why he was so obsessed with the pub crawl.

The true genius in realising every pub name is pertinent to what happens there.
The First Post is where they begin
The Old Familiar looks exactly the same as the first, and is thus familiar
The Famous Cock is Gary, being recognised by the barman
The Cross Hands is a reference to the robots signature attack with their hands
The Good Companions sees the guys decide to work together to carry on the pub crawl
The Trusty Servant is the Reverend Green, working for the robots
The Two-Headed Dog is a rather brutal way of describing the twins
The Mermaid is where the guys are seduced by the siren-like marmalade sandwich
The Beehive reveals the robots ultimate plan to assimilate humanity into its collective
The King's Head is where Gary finally loses it and confesses that the pub crawl is all he's got left
The Hole in the Wall now literally has a hole in the wall after the car smashes into it
And the World's End is, well, obvious.

As someone in my late 30s, I really appreciate this movie too, but Hot Fuzz is still my favorite. These three movies really feel like a journey through early adulthood, each one illustrates certain phases of our 20s and 30s pretty well.

    SPOILERS:
I went into this movie knowing about the robots, so I wasn't entirely surprised by the reveal. what caught me off guard was seeing Gary's bandages. That had me sobbing uncontrollably the rest of the way through, as someone who went through and still occasionally deals with suicidal thoughts. I immediately rewatched it to catch all the hints: the line "bottling up past traumas can lead to inadequate coping strategies in later life...apparently." Gary refusing to show his arm scar because it would've revealed the bandages, Gary not packing any luggage when going to Newton Haven, and why he was so dead-set on finishing the Golden Mile. hell, the reason why he had a beard is explained by this: why would he have a beard when it's a clear sign of aging, something Gary hates? the reasonable conclusion would be that the place he was staying at the beginning of the movie, most likely a hospital, wouldn't give him a razor as he would've tried to cut himself.
one of my favorite lines or the one I think about the most often is: "they told me when to go to bed! ME!". most people when they heard this line most likely laughed, because of how childish and petty it is, but it's for that reason that makes it so goddamn sad. because they're right, it IS childish and petty. that's the point. Gary still can't let go of the idea of being told what to do despite being in his forties and it really shows how truly broken and messed up he is. in many ways, he's a child stuck in an adult's body, and that is seriously f*ed up.
even though Hot Fuzz is still my favorite of the trilogy, this one really just gets better and better the more that I think about it, and really more than the other two deserves to be watched over and over.

    • @kimm6589
      @kimm6589 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I think you have to be slightly older to get some of the themes they are trying to tackle. Like Seb didn't understand why Andy kept trying to stop Gary from finishing, which is supposed to be representative of Gary's addictions and trying to convince him to stop.

I think the editing in this movie was more mature (which often means that it is less interesting). But the Fight-Scenes where perfectly edited and choreographed which (in my opinion) pretty much makes up for it.
Still, the most important part of this movie (which is distinctly Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg) was the script and dialog. Because of this I think this is as interesting of a movie as all the others. I do however also still prefer Hot Fuzz over the other two, but that could also be because of the genre.

This movie is awesome. It is a knock off the the Body Snatchers which is a classic movie. Both versions of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers are good. I prefer the original but some prefer the remake. I find the original to be more suspenseful and iconic.
