    There was originally supposed to be a female love interest for Angel. When she was written out, most of her lines were given to Danny with no change, turning the two into the great bromance we see in the final movie.

    • @JeffKelly03
      @JeffKelly03 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      Yep. That scene late night after they've been drinking is even more hilarious with that context, when Danny's telling him about how he can show him how to turn his brain off, etc.

      why the fuck would a comedy need a romantic subplot

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    • @inarar5334
      @inarar5334 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @ you really only need to cite Shaun of the Dead. Considering it's the same writers and the first follow up to that, it stands to reason when first starting they wanted to try and recreate the "romantic comedy that happens to be during a zombie apocalypse" vibe Shaun of the Dead was given a lot of praise for. It's to their credit they realized the story and presentation made it not work as well. Plus, the real romance is with Danny, bromance or otherwise. The last third of the movie wouldn't work as well if Angel only had a working relationship with Danny.

    Gave away the ending in the first scene.
    This is such a good screenplay. It's almost pointless doing a commentary on it, because as soon as you open your mouth, you've alreasy missed at least 3 jokes. Glad you did though, great reaction.

    I don’t know if you caught it, but the first two murders when Skinner is driving past he’s playing music that describes the victims: you hear “Lovestruck Romeo” after Martin Blower is discovered, and “Fire, to destroy all you’ve done” when George Merchant is blown up. An even better way of throwing suspicion on him

    • @DerOberfeldwebel
      @DerOberfeldwebel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A popular theory I've heard is that the Council agreed on him making himself as suspicious as possible to draw attention away from whats really going on. Looking at the blast Timothy Dalton clearly had, it almost worked !

I love your videos, they never fail to make me smile. Also if you want another comedy film, I'd recommend JoJo Rabbit. It's directed by and stars Taika Waititi, the same guy that directed Thor: Ragnarok and voiced Korg. It also stars Scarlett Johansson and Stephen Merchant AKA Mr. Staker from this movie has a decent role in it. Keep up the good work, but don't be afraid to take a break if you need one

    16:14 The funny thing about the inviting in for coffee, is that early drafts had a woman love interest, and when they decided to remove that element, they gave all her important lines and actions to Danny! It works beautifully, and this film is a true bromance, as a result.

    One of the great things about this is that once Angel sees the action movies that Danny recommends, when those similar scenes happen in this movie they are filmed in the exact same style as the original. For example, when Danny says later in the movie something to the effect of "this just got real" the camera pivots around Nicholas and Danny in the exact same way it does in Bad Boys II when they said the same thing. There's a ton of detail in this movie too and so many funny lines. Gets funnier with additional viewings.

    It's well worth watching 'the making of hot fuzz' (which is on youtube!) cos they give lots of fun details and the rundown of the writing process for the script is really interesting. I assume you've watched SPACED the channel 4 series where Pegg, Frost and Wright first joined forces? 12 half hour episodes that are basically prototypes for the Trilogy and endless homages to everything you can think of. It's shocking to me how many people have no idea about it.
    There's also Big Train a sketch series with Simon Pegg and others and I THINK Nick Frost's first scene in anything ever, certainly with Simon Pegg that I'm aware of. But it's one shot of him as a Builder or something, cat calling a pink flamingo string puppet that's walking down a street to weird french music. Yes, if you haven't seen either of these series... Great film, definitely my favourite of the trilogy. I'll be interested to see how you feel about The World's End vs Shaun, they're on a similar level for me. Be sure to pay attention to the stuff that's shown but unspoken in Worlds, it's darker than it lets on at times

      Also as someone else mentioned, definitely give Paul a watch too. It's not got this directing style, and it's not part of the Trilogy, but it's a great, light-hearted sci-fi comedy with Pegg and Frost, good one if you need an easy-watching pick-me-up, and of course funnier if you're also a nerd and recognise the references.

    Honestly one of my new favourite reactors mate. But if you want a film to pull the heart strings Hacksaw Ridge 2016 is for you.

    You're the first reactor I've seen recognize every single person of note in the movie.

    Janine his ex is played by Cate Blanchett who was Hela in Thor Ragnarok.
    Jim Broadbent also played a bent copper in Only Fools and Horses called Roy Slater (who along with David Bradley has played the Doctor).

    7:20 When Danny does something bad he has to supply treats for the office. ‘We won’t be short of chunky monkey’ meaning Danny’s punishment for drink driving is providing ice cream.

    29:00 - Jessica Hynes, their collaborator on Spaced and Yvonne from Shaun of the Dead, told the boys at the premiere "you should have said 'rest in *peas*'", and they were like "this is why we miss having you around".

    One of my favourite movies of all time. I have seen it a million times and I still laugh. So so good. Definitely prefer this to the other 2 but they are still great

    Hot Fuzz > Shaun Of The Dead > The World's End
    I DO really wish he'd make another one.

    Fun facts:
    - The man dressed as Father Christmas in the opening was played by Peter Jackson
    - Janine (Nicholas' ex) was played by Cate Blanchett
    - The Swear Box at the station has every word censored, except the C word.

    Thanks for this! Watch "Point Break". Fun fact: The "car chase" (yellow SAAB cab) is the shortest car chase scene in history of film.

    The director of this, Edgar Wright, was originally set to direct the first _Antman_ but apparently he and the studio couldn't see eye to eye and he left. After seeing this movie and finding it absolutely hilarious I do wonder how different _Antman_ would have been under his direction.

    If you never watched "Point Break", I highly recommend it.... The 90's original, that's it (the one with Keanu Reeves) not the lame remake that was made a few years back....

    I used to be friends with that ginger guy from the pub (and a bunch of other extras). They were recruited from our college as the movie was filmed a couple miles away.
    Also, Santa is played by Peter Jackson (AKA the director of LOTR) and Nicholas' girlfriend is Cate Blanchett.

    Why am I only just now finding out that "Deranged Santa" that stabs Nicholas in the intro is a cameo by Peter f'ing Jackson?
