    Very helpful thank you. I bought a 2008 Ford Escape as a flip and it had a “blown transmission”. Long story short I towed it home. Put transmission oil in it and it started to move fine on its own but would dump oil out by the quart. When I brought it into my shop I found it was leaking oil out the pump cover that completely rusted through and was just gushing oil out the side cover by the pump through rusted scale. So I ordered a new used pump/pump cover and was able to get the old pump out by loosing the subframe and taking the axle out. Can’t wait. Just got the new pump in yesterday.

    Hey Joshua, you know what the torque specs on the bolts for the pump assembly are? we have a CD4E where the second gear band broke, easy fix, but now it just locks up the pump, mitchell prodemand says 8Ft,lb on the torx bolts, and 10Ft,lb on the pump assembly bolts. We have found out that is WAY! to tight and will just lock up the pump, it seems to be between 4 and 6 Ft,lb but we can't seem to figure it out, to tight just brakes the shaft, not tight enough, no pressure. any help care to share would be awesome.

    Will a defective fluid pump cause a whining noise in the lower gears when driving? Can this be replaced with it still in the vehicle?

    I have a 2002 Ford Escape, 4WD, V6. I can put the vehicle in reverse and neutral and no issues but as soon as I put it in drive the car stalls and shuts off. Can you give me some ideas of what may be the cause. Is it the seloniod assembly or the torque converter? I just don't want to redo a transmission because of a crooked mechanic.

    A defective pump will cause the car not to drive. Although replacement of the pump shaft and gears can be done on vehicle if you can drop the Trans far enough to extract the pump.

      Joshua Caswell so if my pumps broke I wont be able to use any gear correctly it wont move I have a escape that seems to have no gears no jumping or slipping grinding i believe it is something like this

    How do you align the pump plates when putting the pump back together, what pins do you use to align the pump plates?

    Do you know if this would cause the car to only engage when cold but when warm you lose all torque? Or do you think I'm screwed with a clogged filter? I have to shut the car off and then let it sit for like 30 seconds to engage any gear but then after driving maybe a minute at best it slips into a neutral-like state. Then repeat the process over and over. I've replace the solenoid, changed fluid 3 times, changed rear diff fluid and transfer case, checked all fuses. I'm out of ideas here. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi Joshua.
    I got problem with my gearbox. It changes gears no problem when it's cold. Once warm the reverse engages, but the car doesn't move until I gently increase the revs. If I try to rev up normally, the reverse kicks in violently like something hit my car. Could this be oil pressure issue?

    Hi. Have an 06 escape with cd4e. Lot of metal on the drain plug. Emptied sump and replaced that fluid. As soon as engine warms up loss of all gears. Neutral reve ever position. Q: should i just scap the trans and get another from a yard?

    I was going to say, but all others already did, you do not need to take out the transmission to fix the pump.

    Sooo whats this common pump seal that you said that breakes?
    The pump is broken
    The shaft is twisted. 🤷‍♂️

    I am wondering if you have to take the transmission out in order to remove the initial cover. I am having a hard time getting the first cover off in order to even see if that gear in there is broken, while the transmission is still in the car. Any tips that you have would help.

      I'm thinking you don't have to pull the Transmission to remove just that rear cover.

      The pump gear is the broken piece.

      Sir I have 2006 ford escape 3L. 4x4, I have a problem in the transmission, when the engine is still cold the transmission is working but after 5 minutes while engine become hot the transmission begin to slide until no more power. Can you please give some advice. Thanks.

      @@nestormasi2395. When the clutches get hot and start slipping it's time to rebuild or replace it. As long as the fluid level is OK and this is happening is sure sign it's time. There may even be a check engine light on with some codes P07XX.

      Hello My friend had the exact same problem ( wouldn't move ) last week. His rear brakes were completely locked up... once he fixed the rear brakes... the problem was solved.

    Hi Josh, I have a escape 2002 it reverse but Drive won't work straight away unless I started from 1,2,3, then D it jumps but when it locked on D it drives fine..do I have put in another transmission.. need some suggestions please? Thanks

      I don't have a direct answer for that one. I would first check the fluid (level, and is it the correct type of fluid) and voltage supply.

    Can you replace just the pump cover with the transmission still in the vehicle as my cover is rusted out

      Yes. I believe you could. You may have to remove the Trans mounts to lower the trans.enough to get it out.

    Ive got an 01 escape that goes into reverse just fine but drive is like neutral and 1st amd second barely work.
    What could be wrong with the transmission? Please I really need to get this resolved

      Reverse is a separate gear from all the rest. Unfortunately the transmission will have to be replaced or rebuilt.

    Would this cause a whine noise even in park at a higher a rpm? Mine just started making a whine noise while driving and then wouldn’t go any faster than 25 mph with a horrible whine noise while going that fast. I’m not a transmission tech and am hoping that this would be the worst of my problems.

    i have a 2005 ford escape all the front gears work fine but the reverse doesn't work when the tranny get warm/hot. It does go to reverse but the car doesn't move any suggestion?

      N Sahar. Check the fluid level. This is done with the engine running and in park. If the fluid level OK suspect internal transmission fault mechanically or in the valve body.

    I have an 02 escape xlt. When I’m driving around in the city it’s fine but when I get up to 60-80 on the highway the “O/D off” light starts blinking and when that light comes on the acceleration hesitates for about 1-2 seconds then resumes driving as normal for the rest of the trip but the light doesn’t stop blinking until I shut it off and start it back up. I tried pressing the button for it when it happens but it didn’t fix anything. What could be the cause of this and how difficult of a fix is it or should I even be worried about it? Also just had a new engine put in it if that matters at all

      There might be something wrong with the lock up converter. I'd take it back to where you got the engine. Have them scan it and see.

      @@joshuacaswell2147 update: this just started yesterday but now when in “D” accelerating from a complete stop it revs up to around 3500 and slowly rolls while revving as if it was in “N” before the gear actually engages, and will go in and out of giving actual acceleration at the same time until it finally gets up to 2nd gear speed then it drives as it typically would until I slow down or stop.
      My workaround for this until I can get it looked at has been to shift into 2nd when I’m stopped (as 2nd and up behaves normally) then when rpm gets to the normal shift point i upshift from 2nd to “D” and go on about my drive essentially cutting 1st gear out of the equation to avoid the inconvenience. Is my 1st gear going bad? Is my workaround idea bad for the car? It drives fine when i do that. Is it something else? It has trans fluid, i checked it after the problem appeared right when I was arriving at my 1000 mi road trip destination, i stopped to get gas before arriving at the hotel and when I pulled out of the gas station it went as i described.
      Pls help I don’t want it to worsen

      @@elongnutz2531 No easy way to say this. Your going to need a new trans or rebuild yours. Just make sure you find time soon to do it at your convenience rather be stuck somewhere with no gears.

    What if the pump isnt broken? The shaft is twisted but broke from the inside of the transmission into the torque converter had to fish it out with a magnet. It has new shift solenoid new 2 4 band it was not shifting into gears at all.

    Hey Joshua, so I have a 2003 Ford Escape 4wd and car was running fine in the morning and parked it for a bit and had to back my car out of the driveway again due to my mom having to leave and when I put it in drive it wouldn’t go, what would be the cause of that? all others gears work fine, shifts fine, no loud noises or anything just won’t go into drive. it would help a lot thanks

      there is a mondeom with the same gearbox, and the vehicle shifts at 3500 rpm, and shifting from first gear to two is about 10 seconds at 3500 rpm.

      Joshua Caswell thanks for the reply it’s not over full as no one put fluid in it. Ford said something about the torque converter being bad. However a mechanic friend who was gonna replace the torque converter did some line pressure tests and on the solenoids and says it needs to be replaced about the front pump being broke. I’m wondering if it’s just this little gear you have in the video.

      Marcus Shook. No, it causes no fluid to be pumped and therefore not move the car. But the transmission did not lock up in this case.

      Joshua Caswell. Ok thanks! I was wondering if you would have any idea whats wrong with mine. When I put it in gear the transmission shakes real bad and makes a whining noise it's like it's trying to stall out when my foot is on the brakes. if I let off the brake it goes but when I hit the brake again it starts to stall out like it is still trying to go. Any ideas? Thks

      If there is an internal pressure problem in the trans then the car will stall and shake when stopped. A possible cause is the torque converter or seals leaking internally.

      Breaks the hydraulic oil pump. No pump NO GO.

    I'm about to start working on my CD4E to fix an issue and was hoping you could direct me on where to go.
    Issue: when engine is tols, the car shifts like a dream. When hot, it wont shift at all. Temp in tranny stays 98f. Fluid is good (used to be worse), just replaced valve body and solenoids. Thoughts? Bout to change the fluid pump, filter if I can reach it, and the original band when you open up the gearbox from the pump.
