I'm almost 40 years old and I never knew this was possible! I could never get all of these as kid to begin with, let alone knowing it can all be done within the first stage. That's so cool! Thanks for the video! I'm going back through the Sonic titles again as it's been years now. And now I get to experience something for the first time ever.. I got the game with the Genesis when it came out in 92 and LOVED this game so much, so this is special! Thanks!
It's never too late to try something new... do you think you'll go for it? I hope you enjoy rediscovering those games again. I pretty much lived and breathed Sonic 2 growing up and didn't have a lot of other games to play, so this stuff became second nature. I come back to it often!

@@bhavbot6819 no not quite. First Sonic game was around 1991. I am just saying I grew up with the games not that I was BORN at the time it was released. 😆
My father, who was a teacher, had a student told told him about all the Sonic 2 secrets debug mode and wrote cheat codes for this, and a few other games all down so he could give it to me. I'll never forget the joy I felt the day my father brought the notes home and I eventually unlocked Super Sonic.
To this day I'm not sure how this student figured out all these different codes. Maybe they were in magazines, or they were on the early internet ~'95, but whoever they were thank you!

Thank you very much! I was pretty happy to have pulled it all off in one playthrough rather than having to sew several together. There's nothing more fun than thwarting Dr. Robotnik before he even has a chance to attack.
One time, when I was gonna get the 7th Chaos Emerald, I was so concentrated in getting all of the rings that when I ended up in the start of the third stage, I legit had more rings than it told me to. I had 205 rings.

It's quite easy to exceed the limit on the third part of the 7th special stage. However, its NOT EASY to get it on the second part. That's just amazing.

I watched the final special level like a dozen times in order to study up and memorize the patterns the bombs come in and actually got it on my first try!

@@itsnotod Actually...Tails is a big opstical because he's doing all your moves but after 3 seconds so imagine jumping before hitting spikes and then tails jump after that by 3 seconds.
That's why he should be only playable in the 2 players mode.

Sonic and knuckles special stages gave me the most headaches. Even though it was like sonic 3's special stages, they made it a lot harder on some special stages.
Real talk, you got a very soothing sounding voice, very fitting for the smooth nature of this game (or at the very least the first zone).
Awesome vid :) I dug out my old mega drive today and was playing this and thought to myself “I’m sure I used get all the emeralds before the boss when I used to play this as a kid” and sure enough it’s doable. I’m 45 now so may need to get some practice in lol

I think I liked the special stages so much as a kid that getting them all eventually happened to me by accident! Getting them in the first acts came much later in life, but it's fun to play with him once in a while. Super Sonic's control is very, very slippery so for trickier levels like Wing Fortress Zone, I avoid becoming him at all costs!

Fun Fact! This method is actually intended to be possible.
In the mobile port of Sonic 2, there is literally a achievement that says, “Get all Chaos Emerald before entering Chemical Plant.”
Meaning that this method is very much intended to work!

Be careful with the 3rd emerald on sonic origins it seems a bit glitchy ( ive tried 3 times now for emerald 3 and at the last part the first bunch of rings appear on the actual corner not in the middle also it seems sped up and movement in these is really bad for origins )

@@hungrygoriya its fun but i managed to get 3 and 4 at aquatic ruin and ended with all 7 by casino night 😁 origins seems faster and some of them are strange because where the pack of rings are supposed to be in the middle they actually appear right on the corner i think origins has a few bugs in it and now im stuck on death egg the 1 boss that gives everyone a headache with how you always fall through his chest or land on his spike arm 🤣
@@AdamF8 Oh man... well hopefully those bugs will get patched! And that metallic Sonic enemy is the devil. I game over'd there soooo much as a kid. The hit box is super tiny. Good luck!

This is even easier as knuckles since he doesn’t lose his rings after the special stage. Also good for doing sonic alone since having tails increases the ring count for the special stages.
I really don't enjoy the final boss fight in this game with Knuckles. He can't jump nearly as high and I can't beat the boss the way I want to. It takes forever!
It's definitely harder as Sonic and Tails! I have another video with no voiceover showing that run and it was extremely tough.
Back here again trying to get em all in the Sonic Origins collection, thanks so much! The ability to retry special stages makes it so much less frustrating now.

Wow it's been 1 year since I haven't come to this channel. I am playing Sonic Origins. The bonus levels in Sonic 2 are remade really well. You actually see the screen move at a slower pace. Also when you get an emerald you still have the coins when you play with either Sonic or Tails. These bonus stages are really hard though. I have to retry them several times.

@@hungrygoriya They fixed everything in the game. There's different music in whatever Sonic games had Michael Jackson doing the music. That's different. They fixed all the issues though with Sonic 1-2. In Sonic 1 you can spin dash & when you are invincible with 0 rings because you go hit to lose them you don't die right away on the spikes you can stand on them for a few seconds now while he's invincible for a bit. Also I think for Sonic 2 when you fight the last boss sometimes you would go through him & die when you hit him. That's been fixed. Also that level where you pull down vines if you go jump in the pit they added the level that they took out originally.
These games without saving are terrible. Sonic 1-2 that didn't have a save file were hard games to beat because of that. These aren't even hard games. It me months or even years to master these games & beat them when I was a kid. I also wasn't beating these getting every chaos emerald either because it was too hard to do or I lacked the knowledge of what they did.
@@tonyp9313 Those changes all sound like good ones to me. And Sonic 2 was really hard for me as a kid as well. I can't tell you how many times I got to the metal Sonic and got a game over there. I'm glad they've made it a little more accessible for new and old fans alike!
@@hungrygoriya Yeah I was also dying at Metal Sonic a lot & other bosses when I was a kid getting game overs. As a kid when I played this game & other video games. It used to take me months on end to master. Even then I would not beat these games all the time. It was only when I became an adult or later on I find these games easy that I can beat them in 1 sitting within 1 hour or whatever the length of these other games are.

Interestingly enough, I seem to remember that, on the Genesis, there was a way to unlock Supersonic in the Emerald Hill Zone while playing as Sonic with Tails. My brother and sister showed it to me once. In the Emerald Hill Zone, after collecting 50 rings, they went to the first star post and completed the bonus level. Then they pressed the reset button on the Genesis after they were sent back to the Emerald Hill Zone. After they repeated this 7 times, they played the level through, and when Sonic got 50 rings and jumped, Supersonic appeared. The trick was not to go to any additional star posts after the first until all emeralds were collected.
Ah yes, the good old reset trick! That's right, you can do it that way as well!
Absolutely mental that you can complete all the special stages in the first level and have access to Super Sonic for the rest of the game!

I think the most impressive part is that you managed to turn into Super Sonic and make it to the boss in Metropolis
Just barely! That one and Oil Ocean were really tough to get through with enough time left to fight the boss.
Plus Metropolis has like 0 speed sections and Super Sonic actively gets in the way for precision platforming.

The one starpost that you cannot get to is a bit tricky, I'll admit. You have to take the top path. After a pretty long horizontal spiral up there, there is a loop with a little rise leading up to it, and a spring at the top right corner of the loop. Jump when you're on the little rise to get on top of the loop. The spring takes you to a platform with a LOT of rings, four monkeys, and a free life. That platform has a drop to another platform with the star post.
I'm using this for my 100% run at Sonic 2. I did it once before as a kid and I'm attempting it again as an adult. I'm playing on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 and the cool thing about that is you can manually save anywhere within the game. So if I mess up anywhere along the way I can go back to where I saved the game and try again. It's awesome you can get all seven within the first two acts. Thanks for the guide. 👍

I probably won't ever get the 7 in the first 2 levels, but this allows me to get more practice in and break the back of the task early on in the game (rather than desperately trying to hold onto 50 rings later on in the game).
The sooner the better for sure! I hear ya about the later levels ring collecting problems. Getting 50 for this video to show Super Sonic at each of the bosses was actually really, really tough, especially for Oil Ocean and Metropolis Zone.

Watching this in 2024 after playing the Sonic 2 remake on Sonic Origins Plus, then playing the original Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic 2 on Nintendo Switch Online for a more authentic experience, complete with the original choppy frame rate in the Special Stages!
As others have already said in the comments, you breezed through the Special Stages, while I needed to use save states to have multiple attempts at each stage from the second one onwards. I'm always in awe of how 1990s Sonic players were able to learn the layouts of the Special Stages while jumping in and out of them while playing the actual main game, and without any modern assists like rewind!

I also did the "Get all emeralds in Emerald Hill" back in the nineties, but the first time I wasn't able to get the first star post in Act 2, so at first I had to resort to cheating (I was a kid back then, don't blame me) and grab the first emerald through the Select Stage.
But then, I dared myself to get that star post, the one you got at 10:43
I managed to do it... ONCE, and it was using the super-speed sneakers, a little to the right, and going back.
You did manage to grab the emerald without powerups.

Nicely done! The soonest I've ever been able to get all 7 is the very end of Chemical Plant.
Also, great tip mentioning to play as sonic alone. Tails makes the special stages kind of annoying. Especially if he jumps ahead of you.

One last thing: I would also wait until the last starpost in the Wing Fortress zone to get the final emerald, simply so that it would be easier to control Sonic, and so it would be easier to collect 100 or 200 rings. Precision with Saiyan Sonic was a pain in the neck!

I would go through the check points and they would glow stars but for some other check points it doesn't. But now i've figured out, step by step guide on how to obtain all 7 chaos emeralds in one stage level.

A Super Sonic speedrun would be pretty neat actually! And my goodness, I don't think I could quantify that. I've been playing the game since childhood and just played the stages casually growing up. I guess I only got good at getting them all done in the first two areas over the past few years, but it has been a work in progress for a long time.
Hungry Goriya owie, wow, thats a long time playing sonic.(insert long story) I was a fan of sonic when i was like 5 years old, i used to play all sonic games, like sonic dash, and then the classic sonic games came out on mobile. I was so happy and started playing them right away. Unfortunately my phone crashed because of the much games i downloaded. I waited, and waited, till i got my tablet. I did forgot some of the games. And i became a fan of luigi. But then when i saw the games i realised how much fun they were and how fun it was playing them again. I downloaded both of the games and started playing them. Its been a year right now. When i saw this video i thought *maybe i should try it*. And now, look at me, with a super sonic killin those eggmans. I had to like watch the special stage tutorial from you 3 times so i could understand the stage good. Thank you for that. Without your help, i would not have known how much fun the game actually is then just killin enemies and eggman. The game has a story, a purpose. You can easily chease it.
I literally even had my background picture on my phone to a sonic i colored in.

When the game came out, it has took me a lot of time to explore that bonus, searching in all kind of old video game magazines... my friends and i, used to say that sonic were becoming a super sayan.... same hair as goku, not running but flying, being stronger...hey, dragon ball z was THE reference at this time!! I was enjoying so much to unlock that !!!!!

In the 20 years I've played this game, I never knew about the 4th star post. I always skipped that one. I would always get the one you skipped in Emerald Hill though just so I can have Super Sonic early on haha
That's too funny... I never knew how to get up to the one you must get until I made this video and someone told me about the spring against the wall. It's crazy that there are five posts in one stage though!
I love how they give you option to play as Sonic or tails picking one of the characters if you want to get the Chaos Emeralds
The only issue is that if you play as Tails, he has no "super" form. You just collect 50 rings, jump, and then feel bad for him.
Emerald hill home of all 7 emeralds, also home of getting super sonic when you start the game just by getting 50 rings

As a kid, absolutely. But these days, not so much. He's kinda boring to play as with player 2 except for inside the special stages.

Super Sonic is more faster than is normal state even though you can't make him fly in midair.

just what I was looking for, I'm playing Sonic 2 Absolute (Fan Remake by: Team Forever) and one of the achievements is getting all the emeralds before chemical plant zone.

I saw that you're a Sailor moon fan as well, There's a Demo based on the Master System remakes called "Sonic the Hedgehog Moon". The Sonic SMS remakes are also worth a look as well.

I tried but I didn't get them all until zone 2
Learned my lesson never have tails tag along ..right when I had required rings at the last sec tails dropped some coins!!! Thrn ended up short!
Tails is a real nuisance! I'm not sure if you know or not, but bringing him along also increases the number of rings you need to collect too... he makes it harder to win in more than one way.

Tails was the bane of my existence with this game. Probably the reason why I don’t like it as much as 1 & 3&Knuckles. Only done the emeralds with knuckles and 100% with him.
My whole life I was annoied that there were 6 of 7 here. I had no idea about the first post in zone 2! thanks for the help 🎉

I love how you get super sonic for the rest of the game once you get all emeralds it’s so fun (except for when it gets close to the fight with mecha sonic there’s not as much rings)
Yeah I don't think it's possible to be Super Sonic in the last battles. I'd love to try that sometime if it's possible.
@@hungrygoriya also because of you I’m a pro at getting all 7 emeralds. I play on mobile so I get 4 game slots with a no save slot that’s just for playing the game once and I got all chaos emeralds in all four slots. Thx!
