I mean if you think about it there's logic behind it leading to a bad ending because if eggman had the emeralds he could just rebuild then use the chaos emeralds which would just screw sonic over

9:02 That happened to me in a few years ago, because, after I finished the whole game, I didn't know I was supposed to collect all Chaos Emeralds to see a good ending of Sonic Advance 3. Not only it happened in Sonic Advance 3, it also happened in Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) when I completed this game. I haven't seen all of the bad endings in the 2D Sonic games.
Getting all Emeralds isn't enough. Even if you get them all, you still need to free all friends (all act 3 Gemerl battles as Sonic) and defeat final boss as Sonic, too. Too many conditions.
Having played the game several times and gotten the bad ending as a result Knuckles Chaotix's bad ending honestly makes me the most uneasy the slow moving music combined with the burned City with Giga Metal Sonic floating in the background just all around makes an unpleasant feeling Though Sonic CD's makes me pretty sad for Little Planet as well
And you know the worse thing? After you complete and try to select a level. It just teleport you to the level select bumper thingy with metal. So you cant try to get all of the chaos rings. Its an end
wow i didn't expected that, when you get the good ending you get a lame COOL ending (and also in theories that metal sonic was recovering after that fight, which the recovery took a long time (10 years IRL making his grand return in sonic heroes)), but now what it looks like, at least you are preventing THIS to happen

From what I remember as a kid, Sonic 2 for the Genesis didn’t have a bad ending. My understanding is that Sonic 2 for mobile devices however does contain a bad ending though.

Something about Sonic games makes you feel like you GENUINELY saved the planet when you get the good ending. I got the good ending of Sonic 3 & Knuckles today (Super Sonic, Hyper Sonic, and the Doomsday Zone) and it felt like I had REALLY saved Mobius! It fills you with such a overwhelming sense of pride and joy, YOU saved the planet from Eggmans industrialization! YOU did!
Sonic 1 = Robotnik takes over South Island and wins Sonic 2 SMS = Tails is forever kidnapped, preventing Sonic from being his best friend along with the events of Sonic BTS being put on hold Sonic 2 = Robotnik powers up his Death Egg and takes over Mobius Sonic Chaos = Ah sh*t, here we go again Sonic CD = Robotnik takes over Little Planet and begins to tamper with Time and Space, starting off Sonic Generations early Sonic 3 & Knuckles = Angel Island falls, Robotnik has the Master Emerald and takes over Mobius at a much greater level with this much power Sonic Triple Trouble = Fang doesn't become a rival character and uses the Chaos Emerald for his own bidding or whatever, idk Knuckles Chaotix = Metal Sonic Kai begins his reckoning of destroying Mobius, making him an impossible threat for Sonic to defeat 3D Blast = Robotnik lives to fight another day with the Emeralds in his hands Sonic Pocket Adventure = Robotnik, err I mean Eggman, nukes all of Neo South Island, but nothing happens. He just does something down bad and everyone's mad Sonic Advance 1 = Nothing Sonic Advance 2 = Cream's Mother, Vanilla, is possibly Roboticized Sonic Advance 3 = Gemerl fully betrays Eggman and destroys all of Mobius with the Master Emerald, including Sonic. Worse than Knuckles Chaotix bad ending. Plus, Cream has no robo friend :( Sonic Mania = Tails gets grabbed by Chaos, but ends up manning up and sets out to try and find Sonic at all costs. Classic Sonic just does his own thing, so everything goes the same, difference is that Tails gets character development and helps Sonic stop Eggman without fear. But Robotnik has the Phantom Ruby, so Forces might start early in Classic Sonic's world, only the freedom fighters are involved instead of the Resistance

Encore Mode in Sonic Mania has its own bad ending that's different from Mania Mode's. Also, there's the bad ending in the Saturn and PC versions of Sonic 3D that you missed.
Some of these bad endings don't seem that bad like Sonic the Hedgehog 1 1991 or 2, altough all of them mean robotnik or who the heck is the antagonist can easily return back to do there plan.
Because of the straight narrative and lack of Special Stages (except for Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Colors DS, Sonic Generations 3DS, Sonic 4 and Sonic Lost World 3DS but even then the "bad" endings lead to the true good endings and in Sonic 4 and Sonic Lost World you don't need the chaos emeralds)
Strange, I never saw Robotnik saying “try again” in Sonic 2 if you don’t get all the emeralds. And it’s also strange in the GG Sonic 2 that the bad ending only shows Tails in the sky, while the good ending shows both Sonic & Tails in the sky. Does that mean they died of exposure to the emerald’s power?!
Two things about the Game Gear endings; 1.) Literally the only difference between the Sonic Blast endings, is that in the good one, Sonic tosses and catches the Chaos Emeralds. 2.) I know people have in effect already said this here, but Sonic 2 8-bit and Knuckles Chaotix are the only games here that PUNISH you for not getting the Emeralds.
guys it's not sad that tails dies in sonic 2 8-bit especially because in the good ending sonic & tails both appear in the sky and they're alive so it's really unknown what happened
I like the bad ending of Sonic Chaos because Sonic couldn't get the ruby (if that's what it is called) but still won't give up. He will defeat Robotnik and get the ruby back once and for all!

They should have sent the bad ending for SegaSonic the Hedgehog before Sonic CD's. In that 1993 bad ending, Sonic, Mighty and Ray are taking so long to leave Dr. Eggman's tower which has 20 seconds to denote. Then, the 20 seconds have passed and the three anthropomorphic animal heroes get killed by the explosion, much to Dr. Eggman's delight. In my fanmade post-credits scene after the "Game Over" screen, Dr. Eggman breaks the fourth wall by telling the player by a text saying "Hey! You're toast, Hedgehog!!!" in Japanese.
After finally getting around to Sonic 3 and Knuckles, through Sonic Origins, I have to say, the classic set the bar for later games. I noticed similarities to that ancient tomb level from Sonic Adventure 2, from a level in Sonic and Knuckles, how the light dimmed and had to activate switches to get past gates. I always wondered what Sonic Meant about Knuckles letting Eggman trick him again in Sonic Adventure. Yep, never played and completed Sonic 3/Knuckles until today. What killed me yeaes ago were those special stages in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. To finally get around to completing it...What a feeling...
In all Sonic games, this is exactly what happens when Sonic didn’t collect all the chaos emeralds in all special stages, he’ll restart the game from the beginning.

Out of all the bad endings in Sonic games, Knuckles’ Chaotix’s bad ending is definitely the most hardcore.

Because of the straight narrative and lack of Special Stages (except for Sonic Heroes, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Colors DS, Sonic Generations 3DS, Sonic 4 and Sonic Lost World 3DS but even then the "bad" endings lead to the true good endings and in Sonic 4 and Sonic Lost World you don't need the chaos emeralds)
Glad I have this video, as my gaming instincts forbid me from going for anything but the best possible ending in most video games.

Strange, I never saw Robotnik saying “try again” in Sonic 2 if you don’t get all the emeralds. And it’s also strange in the GG Sonic 2 that the bad ending only shows Tails in the sky, while the good ending shows both Sonic & Tails in the sky. Does that mean they died of exposure to the emerald’s power?!
The "Try Again" message only appears in the 2013's remaster of Sonic 2. It wasn't in the original game.

I love the fact bad endings like
- you don't have the 7 chaos emerald, no happy ending for you buddy go try again
Two things about the Game Gear endings;
1.) Literally the only difference between the Sonic Blast endings, is that in the good one, Sonic tosses and catches the Chaos Emeralds.
2.) I know people have in effect already said this here, but Sonic 2 8-bit and Knuckles Chaotix are the only games here that PUNISH you for not getting the Emeralds.

I like the bad ending of Sonic Chaos because Sonic couldn't get the ruby (if that's what it is called) but still won't give up. He will defeat Robotnik and get the ruby back once and for all!

They should have sent the bad ending for SegaSonic the Hedgehog before Sonic CD's. In that 1993 bad ending, Sonic, Mighty and Ray are taking so long to leave Dr. Eggman's tower which has 20 seconds to denote. Then, the 20 seconds have passed and the three anthropomorphic animal heroes get killed by the explosion, much to Dr. Eggman's delight. In my fanmade post-credits scene after the "Game Over" screen, Dr. Eggman breaks the fourth wall by telling the player by a text saying "Hey! You're toast, Hedgehog!!!" in Japanese.

After finally getting around to Sonic 3 and Knuckles, through Sonic Origins, I have to say, the classic set the bar for later games. I noticed similarities to that ancient tomb level from Sonic Adventure 2, from a level in Sonic and Knuckles, how the light dimmed and had to activate switches to get past gates. I always wondered what Sonic Meant about Knuckles letting Eggman trick him again in Sonic Adventure. Yep, never played and completed Sonic 3/Knuckles until today. What killed me yeaes ago were those special stages in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. To finally get around to completing it...What a feeling...
You forget the bad endings in S3&K with Sonic if you have just all normal emeralds but without super emeralds
In all Sonic games, this is exactly what happens when Sonic didn’t collect all the chaos emeralds in all special stages, he’ll restart the game from the beginning.
It feels pain when you don’t get all the chaos emeralds when you get a bad ending after finishing the game that you played
