@@thearoom small gigs i went direct to the board, other gigs i used the 4 cable method and personally liked it better that way when playing thru a Marshall DSL100H full stack
Uhhh, That was the most intelligently done, most comprehensive and informative comparison I’ve ever seen between two products on TH-cam. I love that you didn’t make us sit through the same guitar phrase over and over while you switched back-and-forth between the two units, and rather just switch the two units (and real amp) during the musical piece at the beginning. I love your green and red bullet point specs comparison… Well done! I’m subscribing to your channel and I hope to see more of your videos.
I purchased the headrush and like the sounds, but the two things that are forcing me to send it back are it has no software editor. The thing is designed to sit on the floor and it weighs 15 pounds. It also lacks midi cc capabilities. If you want to be able to control all your gear from a single point it won't be with this pedalboard. I'm about to order the GT1000 pedalboard as I love the software editor and the tones. Boss has been in the guitar pedal business for more than 30 years and many of the effects that we hear today are clones of the pedals they created. Honestly from a modeler perspective they all sound the same to me. I think it should be about your own personal needs and less about how realistic it sounds against what it is modeling. You can get very authentic sounding patches from any one of these units. I am glad I had a chance to experiment with the Headrush as it has given me alot of tone ideas for my final rig.
Hi, thank you for sharing! I do agree about the computer app...I said the exact same thing also in my MX5 review and in my Quad Cortex videos...A computer app is a must have.
There's too many things that make the HR better for live use. I use mine playing out around 20 times a month and I need to switch from a '59 bassman to a Princeton to a JCM800 to a Deluxe and many others many times during the night. In rig mode I just pull them up without having to search or change any banks. Just hold the scroll down button and all the rigs I want to call up are displayed on the footswitches and that eliminates having to try to remember what button to hit. The effects are set up the same way. The ability to change parameters hands free on the run is great too. Running multiple amp heads in stereo, all the hundreds of cabs and IRs makes the HR a dream to play. The best thing is the touch screen. If you can use a smart phone or a tablet you can use this thing....just touch and drag. No need to enter any menus or turn any dials. Love it.
I’d have to say that I like the Headrush better based on these comparisons. It sounds less digital with fewer digital trails in the effects to my ears.
Boss ia the winner here for me. The touchscreen advamtge here.for the HR is on par with Boss as it has the phone app via BT that can be also accessed easily. Rarely you dnt edit patch on live gigs. Another would the boss' number of fx and its signal chain arrangements.
For me, the Boss had the more accurate tones, which is more important to me than the other features. But I wish they would make it more user friendly like the Headrush
Hi, thank you for sharing! If you want a more GT 1000 user friendly option, you may want to check out the GX 100. Here you can find my review: th-cam.com/video/AMZURIluDTI/w-d-xo.html Thank you!
For those thinking about getting a headrush unit, I will point out a detail. All the effects in the unit are designed as a 2 level effect. That means you first choose the effect type (reverb, delay, drive etc.) Then you can choose the sub-effect type. (air/spring for reverb, tape/echo for delay etc) For instance after reverb, you can choose air-reverb (reverb -> air reverb). You can have more than 2 reverbs; but you can only have 2 air-reverbs in the 11 block. Example: 2 spring reverbs + 2 air-reverbs for a total of 4 reverb blocks is ok. But if you need another reverb block, then you cannot choose air or spring reverb.
You really can't buy a bad effects pedal these days. I have the Headrush and I created some good rigs on it, then I purchased some high quality rigs and was really impressed with the sound. The IRs make a huge difference. Also the absolute ease of use is what I love about it. Plus it's built like a tank.
Man! Your playing is amazing. I also prefer the sounds you got from the headrush. The Boss sounds "chemical" and crispy (although I usually love boss products).

@@conradovitorlopesfernandes5570 The Headrush. It is flaky with the USB port getting zapped and not working. After the "zap" it only allows for firmware updating..it can't be mounted as a drive. @Hanover Green Thanks for sharing. I read and heard a lot of good things about Headrush, but I will stick with the gt1000. People complain that's hard to dial the tones, but I don't think it would be any easier on a MB Mark IV, for instance.
To those who are making a decision based solely on sounds they hear on TH-cam, I suggest you also consider other, more important factors such as the number and type of I/Os, power supplies, dimensions and response speed. In terms of the actual tones, it really largely depends on how you dial in the sound. When done right they can all sound amazing. But rest assured they all sound terrible when you first get it and going through the factory presets.
Hi Gary, I do agree...the sound is important but it may not be the only factor to take into consideration. That's the reason why I make those Comparison Charts: I think they can help you to verify the options / the I/O etc...so that you can make an informed decision...at least this is my intention. Great job Leo! clear and exhaustive explanation as always. I must say that after hearing your demo of the Kemper Stage it is difficult for me to get excited for both units in terms of sound (of course the Kemper also has another price obviously). However between the two I prefer the GT1000 for your own reasons ... boss stomps ...

Cool video, Leo ! For me, the Headrush sounds more organic than the Boss. The touch screen and the 20mn looper are the features that make the difference, at my opinion. I bought a Gigboard and I'm very happy with it ! ;)
The HR is not bad at all but sounds like a less detailed and digitally compressed copy of the JCM, the Boss sounds like a different plexi style amp, but a nice sounding one. I'm starting to think that maybe we were trying to find more replicas than good digital amp sounds o.o. Maybe the Boss is better for what it is and not for being the exact copy of a JCM, and that is according to dont put those funny brand-model modified names on the amp models of the GT 1000 jaj... Maybe that goal should be sound closer to a real tube amp, not like an specific one? Just sayin'. Bright demo and review, Leo :D lml
I've had the HR for a couple of years now and used an Eleven Rack before that. My biggest complaint about the HR is that you have to manually balance the output of each rig and I find it tedious. I would much rather be able to set a global output level for all my patches and then override individual patches as necessary and to allow individual effects to increase the volume of a specific patch. This is also a problem with the Helix and, I've been told, all the other floor units. Nonetheless, nothing I heard in this demo compels me to sell my HR and buy the Boss.
Mmmm I've been looking hard at the HR for some time now, I love the look n touch screen and switches options, HR does the job very well no doubt on that, it has big sales, on the down side I've been seeing a good few power problems having its built in PSU with HR, My good friend just got the GT and i must say i was impressed with it, the Bluetooth option is a biggie for me, I rekon the GT is more to amp sounding, Both would be good in more ways than one for what i do, shelling out the $1.5k GT or $1.7 HR is kinda hard to swallow. So A new guitar and new Fx board, I'm going for the GT as it has BT which i like and some other keen features, its all systems go..great compare thks....
Headrush win, but actually very poor quality of sound from both unities, considering the price, i was expecting much more accurate sounds. And once again, great Video.
HR Gigboard has all the same sounds, and much more affordable. But all these units can come close to the real amps. Just got to know how to dial them in and find the the right IR's. You can't judge by a youtube video.
You could hear the difference when both unit was isolated Even though both unit didnt sound like the real deal, the quality of the sound of GT 1000 is better compared to HR.
wow. i am literally blown away. I went into this thinking the boss was going to be the best as they are like the standard for guitar pedals but that headrush absolutely sounded better. just all around nicer tone and more realistic. Would have never expected that

Firstly, thanks so much for your many comprehensive comparisons. They have been a great help. I love your thoroughness, comparison charts and honest opinion. I’m still on the fence with these multi-effects pedals. They always seem to be missing something compared to analog pedals. I prefer to have as little on my pedal board as possible but would love to be able to have all these pedals and features in one pedal. In your opinion do any of the multi-effects pedals meet or exceed the sound of standalone stomp boxes? Thanks again for these great videos.
Excellent video, I have seen all your modeller comparisons trying to decide which one I'd buy and I would like to know what's your opinion about the line 6 pod go, greetings from Colombia.
i BUY gt1000 today after since i watch your video about it Leo!! idk why everyone say it's not organic etc, but if based on your comparison, boss is really really close to actual real amp, eventho not 100% same. a lil bit shrill
This video is awesome. I like the headrush coz its easy to set it up plus more footswitch. Do you have a video on how to set and use manual rmode for boss gt 1000?
@@LeoGibsonGtr no its a deluxe reverb so no fx loop. I'm just fed up of tap dancing and also gassing for pedals lol 😆 was first looking at a switcher but then thought one of these would be cool and could also go to front on house in future with certain gigs. I always thought the boss was a clear winner but hearing your video made me doubt as the headrush sounds awesome and a tad more authentic.. its a tough choice!!
Except for the amps and touch screen, GT-1000 for the win. No pedal in this price range can match Boss. Maybe best in any price range. And yes, the price for both is high.
Boss is not the winner with 500 user/presets you can have more than 1000 on the Headrush pedalboard. The 270 is just the demo preset number but every newly built preset just get added to the list of presets.
I've owned a Headrush but not a Boss. The Headrush sounded great but it always had issues with the USB connection and, what's come to be known, as the rainbow of death i.e. at start up the screen would flash multiple colours and fail to start. They were well know problems that Headrush didn't even acknowledge let also attempt to address. I know lots of people haven't had those problems but lots have. The problems were so bad that I gave the Headrush away because I thought it would be unconscionable to sell it. For that reason I wouldn't buy another Headrush product.
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with all of us!! In my opinion, not considering your issues / reliability problems, the main weaknesses of Hearush pedalboard are the missing compute app and the poor cab simulation....that have not been solved with the new pedalboards, like the Prime. Thanks!
Hello Leo! I know this video is 4 years old but what do you think on buying headrush in 2024? Is it still worth a money? I can't actually choose between buying used headrush prime and ampero stage. What's your thought on this? And always thanks for the quality video! Cheers!
Hi, I'm not a big fan of Headrush stuff....for instance (as far as I know) the cabinet section is pretty primitive, and the missing computer app is unacceptable for me....these are just personal opinion...of course... Thank you!
hello you can't put IRs on those units unfortunately and IRs really make the change in the tone. mooer and recently nux (mg30) multi fx pedals are the cheapest with IR loading capabilities. mooer ge250 and nux mg 30 are pretty comparable in this regard. mooer has some tone capture capabilities while nux mg 30 has parallel paths.
The cleans on the Headrush sounded closer to the Fender, and the Marshall on the GT 1000 sounded closer. The Headrush looks easier to use but I guess it all comes down to sound
Let me be very honest, I love them both and will not ever buy either lol. Too expensive and I already spent my lifetime of money on a great half stack tube amp, two custom guitars, and a litany of other pedals. Still though I watched the whole thing lol great video 👍🏽
Hi, they are both great units, and the answer greatly depend on your needs, in my opinion. For instance the GT 1000 is smaller and lighter and this could be a plus for your, or you may need the extra footswitches of the Headrush. Therefore I would suggest to watch the comparison chart, to verify which unit better suit your needs! Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you, Leo. You are such a nice person. One last thought. I was considering buying the Fractal AX8 over these two. Just talking about tone and sound, do you consider the AX8 superior to these two?
Hi, I don't have the AX8 therefore I can't tell from direct experience. Fractal is knows for its amazing modeling algorithms....if the price is good, I would give it a try. Thank you!
Thanks Leo, you are always fair with your shootouts and I love them! Since I bought my GT-1000 I have not been able to play through a PA(thanks to covid quarantine)only through my marshall origin and headphones. What are your thoughts on how different it might sound i.e.sterile,not responsive, etc. I’m asking because I may have to return the GT-1000 to Guitar Center before the 45 day return limit. I know this is a tough question and subjective but I’m not sure how else to go about this. Thanks for helping if you can😀
Hi Mike, it's an hard question to answer...let me put in this way...to get something better than the Boss you have to spend way more...anyway ... as I'm receiving a lot of question about tone and feel...I will try to make a specific video about this topic...I think it's gonna bee cool ...😊. thank you for your message!
The Marshall origin is a good amp and the pedal isn't bad either but they don't sound as good as the headrush to me so I got the greatest headrush pedal board and count me as another happy customer !
I have always been a massive Boss fan having use 3 different multi fx units + a Marshall JCM 800 half stack. This puts me in the Boss camp all day long. My issue is that based on this and other videos I've seen, the Headrush sounds more authentic to my ears. So the jury is still out . . .
Headrush without hesitation when it comes to ease of use and clarity BOSS for sound quality and quality BOSS for the quality of the manuals BOSS is cheaper in price BOSS for expandability and the ability to do anything Therefore, I choose BOSS.
Good run through. As far as amp sounds, any unit will need tweaked a bit and I think both sound very good. I think just setting it to what you set that amp to normally is only a starting point. Haven't tried Headrush, but I have a GT-1000. If Boss revamped their editing interface to be easier and put scribble strips as on the Headrush and the Helix, they'd sell a lot more units. I love that it's smaller and lighter, though. I also think they need a unit based on these tones to compete with Headrush Gigboard and HX Stomp. Leo, I don't think you'll see any of these companies lower a price until a new version is out, because there are firmware updates to improve functionality and it devalues the product. Helix has actually gone up nearly $200 US in price since I bought mine a few years ago.
Hi Scott, thank you for sharing your opinion. I do agree with you!. You are right also about the price, even though I still think that the price policy should be different. The chips inside these units are getting old and their price should go down, therefore I think that the pedalboard makers should reduce a little bit their prices. Thank you for your message!
I think fastening the speech (tech part) is bad idea cause sometimes it goes hard to understand what you saying but i know you wanted to decrease the lenght of the video. Here was my feedback. Loves, cheers!
Snuffleupagus, are you deaf? What do you use for listening, besides your ears? I listen through my studio monitors and the Boss sounds nowhere near the real thing in this comparison, the Headrush comes much closer!

@@LeoGibsonGtr will do!
Hi, I'm waiting for the POD GO and I will for sure demo it and compare it to other modelers ... so ... stay tuned!!! thank you for your message!
Get the Moore GE 300, it offers more than the 6 pod go for almost the same price bro.
i BUY gt1000 today after since i watch your video about it Leo!! idk why everyone say it's not organic etc, but if based on your comparison, boss is really really close to actual real amp, eventho not 100% same. a lil bit shrill
Hi, thank you for sharing your final decision!
This video is awesome. I like the headrush coz its easy to set it up plus more footswitch. Do you have a video on how to set and use manual rmode for boss gt 1000?
Hi, thank you so much! I have a pretty old video about how to set up the GT 1000, you can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/9on5i6KLau4/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for this shootout! Which one would be best for plugging into straight in front of the amp?
Hi, if you are gonna use the 4CM, I think it depends if you like more BOSS effects or HeadRush ones.
Thank you for your message!
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion with us!
Boss is not the winner with 500 user/presets you can have more than 1000 on the Headrush pedalboard. The 270 is just the demo preset number but every newly built preset just get added to the list of presets.
Question
Can you get these units to feedback through an FRFR?
Hi, yes you can get feedback also from and frfr speaker.
Thank you for your question!
Thank you!
Please also make reviews on Zoomg5n, Boss Gt100, Line6 Hd500x
Hi, I don't have these pedalboards...I will check out if I can get a second hand occasion. Thank you for your suggestions.
@@LeoGibsonGtr Will be awesome to watch... will wait for your video on these product😊✌
Thank you for your patience!
hello you can't put IRs on those units unfortunately and IRs really make the change in the tone. mooer and recently nux (mg30) multi fx pedals are the cheapest with IR loading capabilities. mooer ge250 and nux mg 30 are pretty comparable in this regard. mooer has some tone capture capabilities while nux mg 30 has parallel paths.
The cleans on the Headrush sounded closer to the Fender, and the Marshall on the GT 1000 sounded closer. The Headrush looks easier to use but I guess it all comes down to sound
Hi Matthew, thank you for sharing your findings!!!
Las dos suenan bien ... Pero cuál suena un poquito mejor en los amps?
Let me be very honest, I love them both and will not ever buy either lol. Too expensive and I already spent my lifetime of money on a great half stack tube amp, two custom guitars, and a litany of other pedals. Still though I watched the whole thing lol great video 👍🏽
Thank you, really appreciated!!!
which one do you recommend to me?
Hi, they are both great units, and the answer greatly depend on your needs, in my opinion. For instance the GT 1000 is smaller and lighter and this could be a plus for your, or you may need the extra footswitches of the Headrush. Therefore I would suggest to watch the comparison chart, to verify which unit better suit your needs!
Thank you for your message!
Is any of these two worth buying today? Or should I aim for other multi fx pedal/amp modeler?
HI, yes, I think they are still relevant today.
Thank you!
I would go with the boss gt 1000 boss tone is clearer.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing!
Leo Gibson thank you
jenifer thanks for ur input😊
Try that Headrush with sonic DNA IRs. That thing will come alive ;)
Hi Greg, thank you for your suggestion!
I have always been a massive Boss fan having use 3 different multi fx units + a Marshall JCM 800 half stack. This puts me in the Boss camp all day long.
My issue is that based on this and other videos I've seen, the Headrush sounds more authentic to my ears. So the jury is still out . . .
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Song name pls?
go idea che ti xe veneto! bravissimo in ogni caso!
:) ... grazie mille per il complimento, che mi fa veramente piacere!!!
Very dissapointed about the amp/cab simulation off the Boss in this vid. The Headrush comes much closer!
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion with us!
@@LeoGibsonGtr , purtroppo solo in italiano ... :(
glad i kept the gx100, the headrush kinda sounded weak and muffled 🤔
Thank you for sharing!
Excelente.
The Headrush sounds more organic or natural in my opinion.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hey Leo, thanks for another cool comparison video. Do you think you could make one for Helix LT vs Pod Go? Thanks
Hi Alex, yes I think I'm gonna do it. Actually I'm still waiting the Pod Go to be available in Europe. Thank you for your message!
Headrush without hesitation when it comes to ease of use and clarity
BOSS for sound quality and quality
BOSS for the quality of the manuals
BOSS is cheaper in price
BOSS for expandability and the ability to do anything
Therefore, I choose BOSS.
Hi, thank you for sharing your findings!!!
Time has gone on and the Headrush has proven itself to be the better unit.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
My pick is the Boss
Thank you so much for sharing!
This video deserves way more likes, guys!

Gt-1000 and gx-100 has a problem with 3rd party IRs. They give muddy sound

Hi, thank you for sharing!
The way Boss abandoned the GT-100 firmware with usb issues, I will never purchase a GT-1000
Hi, I had no problem with the GT 100 usb...I'm sorry for your problems...
@Leo Gibson it was related to recording processed vs unprocessed into a DAW. The USB connection itself was fine.
They both suck compared to real amps.

1000% headrush

Snuffleupagus, are you deaf? What do you use for listening, besides your ears?
I listen through my studio monitors and the Boss sounds nowhere near the real thing in this comparison, the Headrush comes much closer!
