Great video & comparison. In over 12 months of owning the GT1000, there are some amp types I haven’t even bothered trying yet. I much prefer a unit with even just 3 or 4 high quality amp models as opposed to having hundreds that rarely or ever get used. Both of these units have appeal, you won’t go far wrong with either.
As someone who's always researching new gear, your information is so extremely helpful. Your legato is very, very inspiring as well. Much appreciated Leo.
Hi Leo! Nice comparison! I prefer the real amp but Gt1000 sounds really good! Obviously 23 amp vs almost 300 amp on Fm3..... In this comparison i don't like the way it sounds the Fm3, too muddy. As you told gt1000 is ready for a live situation, moreover it's seamless in the patch changes with spillover delay and reverb and no dropout. 6 in 6 out are really good too... Boss needs to upgrade amps
Awesome and grest demos and comparison...I have both units, and really astonished that GT sounds so close to real thing. FM3 sounds a little bit muddy and under a blanket..may needs some tweaks in amp block which has so many parameters in this case...anyway a good video is solicited between newly introduced GT core and FM3 again. Thanks Leo...cheers~!
Both have parallel signal/fx paths but the fm3 can only have one amp at a time. The boss can have two amps in two simultaneous parallel paths which is a specific thing I care about. The fm3 has some ways to work around this to get some great sounds however it doesn’t have simultaneous dual amping and the boss does. Thank you for another great detailed review!
Hi, for GT-1000: Format of IR data that can be loaded: Format (extension) WAV (.wav) Sampling frequency 44.1, 48, 96 kHz Bit rate 16, 24-bit linear format
I owned the Fractal FM9 i use about 10 different settings.Mainly Clean Fender Twin and Marshall 800 and 50 and also Mesa Recitifier sounds.I can get those same exact sounds from my Boss GT-1000 .It is a matter of understanding the GT-1000 .I don't think Fractal is supporting the Axe Standard/Ultra and are now saying that they cant get some parts for the Axe FX II .I dont have that problem with Boss
Loved the intro song Leo. I thought the Boss GTT-1000 sounded far better than FM3. FM3 sounds muffled. GT-1000 lacked a bit of bass but very close to the real amp.
Leo this is really another great video of yours: great piece of music, fantastic playing and clear comparison of the units, best video of this kind on youtube. You cleverly hook us with the units to make us discover your music, which I like, great idea. As to the units none of the two in this video shine. Of course as you record the real deal with outstanding knowledge and equipment the units would require tweaking to get close. An alternative way would be to use a load box (UAD OX or Boss Waza Tube, or Suhr or Two Notes ...... just decide for one you might have or like) and compare that way, which is replicable by most people as price-wise they are all not too distant from the floor units like these two (or the Kemper or quad cortex soon out). After all I think most people (especially non pros) would be quite happy with 5 or 6 great sounding models out of the box rather then 200+ that require extensive tweaking. At least so is for me. Thanks for all your work, it is great!!!
Hi, thank you so much...you know that when you like my music...I'm happy! Thank you for sharing your opinion, that are clever and clear! Just to show how the real amps and mics would sound...I will upload in few days the demo song played just with real amps, real cabs and real mics! Thank you once more!
I've been running a GT1000 for about 3 years. Big pluses for me are the separate outputs for my backline and straight to PA and it's easy usability live. It's a great unit.
hello Leo...thanks for your videos they are great... Please, I want to tell you the following: I am a user of the fractal brand... and among other equipment I bought an fm3 some time ago... in the details of the comparison in item block=57 for fm3 and 24 for GT1000, I think there is an error. for the FM3 you can't use more than 11 blocks, including the AMP/CAB, so there are only 9 blocks available... as long as you don't use high reverb or high delay or CAB Ultra Res because the CPU doesn't allow more than 6 block in this case... that is, using maximum quality only 6 block... in the case of the boss gt1000/and core....it is always possible to use the 24 block... I sold FM3 and bought Boss now which is much more versatile and easy to edit... even though you can only load 16 IRs, it is more than enough for any user... being a fractal FX3/AX8 user, I never used more than 10 IRs... Today I only use Boss GT1000/and Core...it's very versatile and easy to edit...and adding IR Celestion has an amazing sound at much lower cost than Fractal.... I recommend Peoducts GT1000 they are very good, very reliable and versatile (I never met anyone with a failure in a Boss product, many problems with neural quad, Mooer, Nux)
Thanks for the great info, I am a boss gt1000 owner, was thinking to buy extra the fractal fm3, but after your experience with both, i think i already have all i need in terms of quality and versatility!
That demo song may have been my favorite of yours so far! Loved the groove! For me, I really like the units with a built-in expression pedal. Much easier to tote around and set up at a quick gig in my opinion. Once again, in a mix, only tone hounds like us can really tell a difference. Also, for the casual home player, some of the cheaper multi effects pedals can get close to these tones for a fraction of the price. Loved your video and your two cents worth. Again, I agree with your assessment. God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
Thank you, I'm really really happy that you like the song! I will soon upload a video with just the demo song played with real amps and mics. Thank you also for sharing your opinion!!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr I can't wait! I cut my teeth on solo rock guitar (Satriani, Morse, etc.). Your playing is very interesting and a pleasure to rock out to.
Also liked the Boss more, it has a more natural high end than the Fm3. I was near to buy it, it was my favourite sounding multi-effect (at least from your reviews jaja), but it looks quite difficult to dial in :( and I need a tool for composing not for appreciating the tone beauties jaj in that regard I'd better get a big boy amp and all the pedals in the world... !. Finally, I bought the POD Go from my local dealer, I'm satisfied with the tone but mostly with the ease of use and interface. Plug, quick set and "Go" (precise name). I'm more focused on playing and composing from out of the box without reading any manual jaja. If Boss put the interface of the POD (or Zoom G11) I'd surely have no doubts in selling my Pod and buying the Boss multi-effect jaja. They should hire Line 6 or Zoom designers and release a " Boss Go"? jajaj As always, great video Leo. Now I just watch your comparisons for the great demo song and for the fun of seeing you playing with all the new toys jaj!
I liked your video as usual as I am considering an unit like these two. Now, a technical comment about the sampling characteristics: the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem says that a sampling rate more than twice the bandwidth of an analogue signal if sufficient to to capture all the information in that signal. Considering the extreme value of 20KHz as the audio bandwidth, 48KHz is a solution enough above the limit. You can use MHz of sampling frequencies if you want but that will change zero in the quality of the image of the analogue signal in the digital world. Regarding the 32 vs 24 bit sample resolution, my opinion is that the quality improvement is not zero but for practical purposes can be considered as so. In conclusion, I leave you my opinion regarding the classification (reds and greens) of this type of equipment. I would consider equal for sound purposes anything above 48KHz / 24 bits.
Hi thank you so much!!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion and experience! As regards the 24 vs 32 bits, it is really a pity that BOSS does not share the dynamic range...with 32 bits it should be higher than the 114 db of the FM3....
@@LeoGibsonGtr I've not made tests above 24 bits. The maximum theoretical value of the dynamic range is 20 log (2^24) ~ 144 dB. With 32 bits the theoretical value is the absurd value of ~193dB! If the value achieved in practice is much lower, certainly because of other factors there is no advantage in using more than 24 bits. It may make sense for other more in depth engineering reasons but to be frank I don't know which. On the other hand, regarding the sample rate, there are some obvious advantages and disadvantages in increasing it: The main disadvantage is that you have less time to do the processing or, in other words, you need more DSP power to do the same; One big advantage is that you are farther away from alias, which allows you to have less demanding low pass filters to avoid it.
Wow.. I just found this Leo.. I would pick one by Feel more than anything.. Both would do anything I would want.. I really like the 1000 core by Boss as well because of it's size.. I know / realize this is an older video.. Both sounded great.. Do you feel one feels more like the real amp than the other? Just curious. Thanks Leo.. Great demo's and great playing kind sir.. Really dig your lead playing especially.. I'm going to rip off some of your licks.. 😛 Be well and safe sir!
Hi Terence, I see your point, and it makes sense. Let me just say that: 1) using the internal cab the differences would have become so big, that the sound of the pure amp simulation could not have been recognizable 2) IRs are cheap and widely available, so anyone can get one 3) with the same IR, we can really focus on the amp sound simulation Thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hi Leo. Great video! I have a cople of questions: 1. I would like know what is exactly what makes the FM3 less ready sound live. Besides the GT 1000 having more buttons, is it because the GT 1000 already has factory presets ready and the FM3 lacks them? 2. One thing that I like about the GT1000 (and line 6 products) is that it has also amps, cabs and effects for bass. Does the FM3 have also all that a bass player needs to sound? Or is the FM3 designed especially for guitarists? (I'm looking for a guitar/bass processor) Greetings from Mexico! 🌮🇲🇽
Hi, thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the video!!! 1) Yes, it is mainly derived from the limited foot switches. At least for me 3 are too few...of course you can add an external midi controller.. 2) Yes, you can use the FM3 for bass...it has amps / cabs also for bass Thank you!
The Boss sounded closer to the real amp to me , while the Fm3 delivered an unpleasant boxy tone. Thanks for the review , i might go for the G1000 Core one of these days , seems perfect for a desktop usage.
I also disagree. I find boss tone quiet different to the real thing. FM3 was a little bassy, but much closer to the real amp than the boss. Just my opinion. Great job, Leo!
Hi Leo, great that you did this comparison I asked you weeks ago.👍😀 I found it interesting that in the intro song all devices nearly sound the same (ok, l only listen through my iPad yet) and in the following comparison there are heavy differences especially regarding thr high end. But it is as you said: FM3 has so much possibilities in tweaking. For sound tweaking I love videos from Leon Todd - there I was wondering how deep you can go into the menus - and the sound is wonderful. But for me the GT-1000 is the better choice, because I love the size, need more footswitches and an expression pedal and love the computer SW (looks like real amp 🤗) and bluetooth possibility. And: I haven't found a Fractal dealer in Germany... P.S.: Because of your wonderful sound in your videos I just bought your Essential IR's today. I'm curious how they will sound with my GT-1000 this evening 😀
Thank you Michael really appreciated and of course I can't say thank you enough for the purchase of my IRs..it really means a lot to me!!! I do agree with you, in a mix it is harder to tell the differences, even if the basic difference are present (simplifying a lot: the GT has more pronounced highs and the FM3 has more pronounced bass and mid). Of course we can go deep with the parameters tweaking, especially with the FM3, that has literally an incredible amount of parameters to check and tweak. Thank you once more!!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Hi Leo, I've tested first IR now (Greenback - SM57). First I put it to any patch of mine, I was not so happy - internal IR was much better. Today I compared to this video and I tried "Brit Stack" amp with settings in your video - I got my smile back :) Great sound - really! I don't know how much my sound will differ from your sound (I tested with 35 years old Ibanez Musician and ADAM A7X), but in comparison sound was near at your tone in video. What was interesting, too: I tried to tweak sound to compare to your real deal (Plexi, Real Greenback, SM57), because your sound of GT-1000 has too much high and less low in this video and: I only have to push Bass up to 80 and I am so near. Really great. Thanks for this wonderful IR :)
After an other listening of "more sounds" the Boss is obviously A LOT MORE dynamic , more strings separation , articulation , and reaction to pick attack . Personnaly I prefer a few choices of better quality than an immense choice where you have to spend too much time on tweaking knobs and parameters
The Fractal sounds rounder like a tube amp imo. But that doesnt mean the Boss sounds bad at all. I think the FM3 is probably better at sound quality where the Boss is going to give a better range of presets for those who dont want to get into the FM3 software. The FM3 has an astounding amount of stuff. It almost has everything ever made anyone is going to mention in a guitar conversation. Its mind blowing.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion and experience! I do agree, the FM3 has really a huge amount of parameters and it's like an amp learning platform...for sure if you want to completely use it getting the most from it...you need to invest time. Thank you!
Had hoped you'd get around to comparing the GT1000 to the FM3, thank you, great work! The GT follows a different (more maverick) philosophy to other modellers, as you know it doesn't really try very hard to be 'traditional' where amps are concerned. I expected the FM3, to wipe the floor with it in this context of matching a specific Marshall tone, but what a surprise! I thought the GT rhythm tone was good, perhaps a little too bright, more JCM800 than Plexi, but the lead tone was stunning. The Fractal sounded like it was under a blanket? The amp was better than both, but that's probably my amp bias...see what I did there :-)
Thank you! Actually these are the resulting tones using the same settings of the real amp for both the GT 1000 and the FM3. It's interesting to notice that the FM3 is missing some high freq, and the GT 1000 is missing some bass freq. Given the much more tweackability of the FM3 we should get closer, on the opposite side, the GT 1000 has less parameters to use and is a little bit more close using the same settings of the amp. Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr In that case, perhaps the FM3 could get much closer than the GT1000, with a bit of work. Anyway, enjoyed the review and the great playing!
Great video again, as always! I loved the sound of the real amp and the real cab, they were just perfect. Somehow I did not like both digital units in this direct comparison this time. Although I am sure they would sound good "enough" to my ears for an average live situation - if this makes sense. If I had to choose I would clearly go with the boss in this example. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I think that BOSS has less parameters to tweak, but the computer interface for me is clearer and easier in the FM3. Of course with the FM3 you really have to spend a lot of time understanding all the parameters you can tweak and their behavior...you have to became a "virtual amp tech"....😊 Thank you for your message!
Bravissimo,ti seguo sempre 💪🏻💪🏻!
Ciao, grazie mille!!! I tuoi complimenti mi fanno veramente piacere!
Thank you Leo! You did a great work as usual: Congratulations! Great performance, great music, and very professional review of two outstanding units. As for my personal opinion, it is hard to choose since both units sounded very close to the original amp (I believe the FM3 sound "fatter" and the GT-1000 had more high ends) but for the overal features I think I may go for the GT-1000. Thanks again.
I am looking for the best unit to play clean sounds through headphones. So far I favor HeadRush over the GT1000. I’m wondering what you think of the Fractal for my type of use. Thanks. Fred
I’d love to see this comparison redone. Cygnus changed the modeling completely and is miles better than at the time of this comparison. I think the sound comparison section would be completely different today.
The GT 1000 sounded closer just lacked bass and low mid, the FM3 sounded muffled I’d get option paralysis with the FM 3 with all that tweaking available and it’s 3 times the price of the Boss
Hey Leo, as most of french guys my english is very bad. I'm so happy that I can easily understand you. congratulations for your accent. where is it from ?
Hi Guy, thank you so much for letting me know!!! Well, I've promised that I will reveal my nationality as soon as I will get 10k suns...(if ever) 😊😊😊. It's kind of a joke 😊 Thank you for your message!
Leo, were both modelers used the presets ONLY or did you modified/adjusted each to see if they can actually sound like the real Marshall amp? The reason why I'm asking, it seems like the GT1000's alittle thin on the LOW and stronger on the highs. And the FM3 is strong on the LOW but alittle lacking on the High frequencies. I would imagined, if you tweak the EQ, both (GT1000 and FM3) would sound similar like the Marshall. I'm I right, or??
Hi, I have use the same settings of the real amp, in order to give you an idea about how close or far the modellers are from the real deal, using the same settings. You can check out the settings in the more sound section of the video. If you tweak the modeller you can get closer: if with setting = to the real deal they are different, it's gonna be "more difficult" to get closer. Thank you!
Really loved your amp modeler comparison series 💗 Really gives me insight as a modeler user and potential buyer 👌 Good job and keep the hard work sir! 🙏💪
Hi my friend Leo! Allways a pleasure to watch your videos! I'd choose Boss GT-1000 all the way! Didn't even liked the FM3's sound! What do you prefer? Im waiting for your review on the new Gt-1000 Core! Also i'd like more Pod Go videos! Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
@@LeoGibsonGtr From a design standpoint, a comparison between the FM3 and GT 1000 Core would be better. As far as tones go, the GT-1000 has the typical Boss tones, not unlike my GT-6, but better and more flexible. The Boss tones sound "dated" to me. The FM3 seems to have more "modern" sounds, and because of that, I would choose it over Boss. Thanks
@@picksalot1 A review comparison to GT-1000 core would only be an update regarding hardware reducing (less connections, no bluetooth, less footswtches, no expression pedal, no sub outs...) - so: handling would be more like fm3. But tone comparison will be not useful, because sound of GT-1000 and GT-1000 core are the same!
Hi Leo, these are Modelers, so you need to adjust Bass, Mid en Treble, so they sound the same!!, only then you have a good comparison i think, .. And Thanks for the nice Video
Thank you! Here, in order not to introduce biased opinion, I used the exact same setting for both the modelers (the same of the real amp), without tweaking. Thank you for your message
@@LeoGibsonGtr Its like in the real world Leo, If you try 3 different 4100 Marshall heads, they don't sound the same. Then you gonna turn Bass, Mids and treble to find your sound, and THEN you gonna compare. If i give you ONLY a FM3, you are gonna dial in your marshall tone with the EQ, If i give you ONLY a GT1000, you are going to do the same, and then you compare, I like your playing verry much Leo, but i don't think people can decide which one is better for them this way
From this particular video, GT1000 Core clearly wins. The FM3 sounds pretty muddy and brings lots of frequencies I then have to remove with EQ. I am sure you can spend hours tweaking FM3 though, but their default still not as good as GT1000.
Hello Leo Gibson, it is nice to see direct comparison videos like this. There is one small mistake though. You can have 4 parallel lines with Boss GT1000 too. If you can look at the Boss Tone Studio for GT-1000 software, Boss GT1000 has 3 DIV and 3 MIX blocks. You start with one path and use DIV1 on that path, then you will have 2 paths. If you use DIV2 on one of the 2 paths and DIV3 on the other path, each of the first 2 paths will lead to 2 paths each; in the end you will have 4 parallel paths in total. Even though you can have parallel 4 paths using Boss GT1000, the blocks are predetermined. In Helix LT/Floor and Fractal FM3, you have free blocks only limited by DSP power. Therefore, I guess in theory you can put 5 reverb effects one after another in both Helix and FM3 but not in Boss GT1000 (which has only 1 REV block). You will have more freedom with Helix and FM3. Also the user interface of Boss processors are from the previous decade while Helix, Fractal, Mooer all have colorful and easy to use graphical user interfaces. Helix and Mooer are easier to control on their own without an access to a pc which you do not need. Therefore, for other music lovers like me, I suggest getting a Boss GT1 when you are at beginner level to multi fx pedals if you really want to try the Boss effects. Boss GT1 -> Mooer GE250 -> Helix LT (or FM3 if you like) -> Kemper is the most logical path to follow in the world of processors, I think.
It sounds, that BOSS GTK was pretty close to Real Plexi with Real Greenback. FM3 was quite far from real amp, but I believe, that it is about EQ tweaking, because structure was similar... Leo I have asked you before, but have you loaded IR to BOSS (with GT-1000 IR Loader), or have you reamped it in DAW? This is very big difference.
@@LeoGibsonGtr yes, it sounds like that, but it was ON in DAW. When cab sims are off on GTK, amp sims sounds very very sharp. But I am very happy with this latest comparison. I would only increase little bass and mids and GTK would be really really close to real thing what do you think? (I know your philosophy is compare all on 12 o'clock). You squeezed much more from GTK than in past comparisons this time. I do not mention your playing and music, it is incredible like everytime!
Hi leo. I realy like your videos...The Boss GT1000, (by my ear), has noticeably better (and more importantly truer) higher frequencies ( from high mids to presence). However, it lacks lower mids (body). Couldn't you try to align the lower mids with the output eq so that they are on par with the real amp? Also fine tune the higher freq on the FM3 and post a comparison with that fine tuning?
Hi Vladimir, thank you, I'm really happy that you like the videos. I have a pretty busy schedule...I will see what I can do...thank you for your suggestions!
Between original post and now the FM3 has gotten better with firmware updates. I have an Axefx3 over 1 1/2 years and I'm still getting updates that make it better and better. That FM3 can nail that plexi, I'd almost guess that turning down the "normal drive" to 3 would do it.
Waow, that's when the rude reality hit our ears : Amazing back to back comparison, it's almost funny how bad these units sound :-) Thank you for this demos.
I have no idea what I would do with the 277 amp models in the FM3. (Great playing and demo!) FM3 and Boss 1000 Core would be a great comparison, each with 3 foot switches, etc. 1000 Core is $699 US. The Boss seemed to lack some in low end girth and punch. I'm sure a bit of eq or different cab model could bring it up to par. Your reviews are honest and deep, I appreciate that.
Does anyone have an idea of how long I would have to wait for an FM3 having joined the G66.eu waitlist on sep 5? How many have come to Europe? Is there a supply flow? Like 10 per month? 10 per week? 1 every 10 weeks? Any hints?
Hi Antonio, great question....I waited more than one year...but I enter the wait list as soon as the FM3 was announced. I think you better write to G66...they typically answer. Obviously if someone else has better info, please drop a comment!
The FM3 needs some tweaking. I have no doubt it can match the plexi. Almost every aspect of every amp can be tweaked from tubes, to mods, to frequency response to separate preamp changes to power amp changes. Want to run a different tone stack... you can do it. Want to use a different preamp and power amp, you can do it. There are literally so many parameters, I believe you could create whatever tones you want without limits.
FM3 sounds like amplitube here sorry. I am pretty sure that can sound better except if Plexi it's not it's favourite. GT 1000 just nailed the amp tone here. Considering how well the AIRD feels I would choose it without any second thoughts
Hi, here I was using the same settings of the amp in both the FM3 and the Boss, in order to not influence the tones with my tweackings. The FM3 has tone of parameters to eventually modify to try to improve the tone. Thank you for your message!
@@LeoGibsonGtr I am looking for my first serious unit to mainly play at home (i'm sick of plugins lol) every opinion are good to take, thanks for your reply :)
For long term investment I choose Boss .I have had no problems ordering Boss parts for older and discontinued Boss products.Fractal seems to drop off when a Item is discontinued .The original Fractal Axe FX standard is no longer supported in any way from Fractal
boss sucks here this video made my desicion to buy fractal thanks for video and also i want to say that gains are not equal with fractal and amp cause sounds feel to me amp has much gain
Thank you! Maybe I will do some instructional videos in the future...the problem is that they tipically don't get many views, and my channel beeing so small, I try to focus on other videos...Thank you for your patience!
I have a genuine question. Why do you always use a Plexi when there’s lots of amps. Is this a personal preference? It would be nice if you could use some other amps instead of just the plexi.
Hi, I try to use amps that I have, in order to compare the modellers vs the real deal...I've done videos with the Soldano SLO 100, the JCM 800, the deluxe reverb, the Mesa Lone Star...I would't say that I use only Plexi, even if the Plexi is a very good test for the modellers, as it is a very dynamic amp...that is something pretty difficult to emulate. Thank you for you message and your suggestions!
I just can't understand how everyone is saying that the Boss GT1000 is more similar to the real plexi than the FM3. You guys are fucking deaf. The high end of the Boss is thin, fizzy and sounds more digital. In the other hand the FM3 lacks high end but sounds much more natural and with more body than the Boss, making it more similar to the real plexi. Dispite people's thoughts and awful hearing, this is a great video!!
Hi, tone is a pretty sibjective thing, and if you like more the GT...you can also save some money and skip a pretty long waiting list. Thank you for your message!
As long they latest multi effects doesn’t matter most the time user problem they did not know how mix properly. Honest opinion The only i don’t like in the boss products their pre amp simulation is poor sounding in my experienced .The fractal is better simulation and boss product the effects is great . Overall fractal has a edge.but practical speaking for the price i will prefer Boss Gt1000 In other hand They are the same digital multi effects programmable In order to get good sounding you need to be creative in someways ✌️
Hi Andrè, in this video I was using the exact same settings of the amp both for the GT 1000 and the FM3. In my opinion in this situation it is quite interesting to notice that the GT1000 lacks some bass and the FM3 lacks some high frequencies...we would need to track the units...I'm pretty sure that the FM3 can get really close, but you have to spend a lot of time investigating and understanding the parameters...the GT 1000 on the other hand is a little bit closer without tweaking, but I'm not sure if it can get as close as the FM3 if we start tweaking.....maybe this is a topic for another video...😊 Thank you for sharing your opinion and for your message!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr a little bit closer? The GT1000 was much closer. But i know that the FM3 can sound even closer. A new vid with tweaking would be great! Thnx!

@@LeoGibsonGtr I want a unit that has not only great Amp sounds but also great quality effects. I only tried a HR Pedalboard so far in my life (I'm old) and liked the amps but not the effects. I am hoping that the Fractal effects will allow me an all in one solution, but still hanging on my strymon pedals until I am convinced! Your videos imo are the best that TH-cam has to offer because you not only compare specs, sound, and user experience with the unit but provide your opinion as well which makes people reflect on what is important for them , which may differ from you. If I wanted to keep my effects pedals I would have bought the HR and use them in the effects loop for instance, but I only play at home and want to be able to play in different rooms with an all in one unit with no other pedals. I am hoping that the FM9 will remove any future GAS for other effects pedals. In my Province in Canada the FM9 will cost me $2400 including tax and exchange rate so it is a big decision!
Hi, thank you so much, I'm happy that you appreciate my videos! Well, the Fractal effects are considered best in class. For instance Steve Vai was using the Fractal just for its effects.
Thank you Julian! I do agree...more amps in the boss would be a nice addition!
Thank you for your message!
Thank you, really appreciated!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion!!!
Hi, thank you for sharing! Good point about the double amp...
This is a strong point that could have been in the video. Thanks!
Hi, for GT-1000: Format of IR data that can be loaded:
Format (extension) WAV (.wav)
Sampling frequency 44.1, 48, 96 kHz
Bit rate 16, 24-bit linear format
Hi Piotr, thank you so much for sharing!!!
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with both the units!
Loved the intro song Leo. I thought the Boss GTT-1000 sounded far better than FM3. FM3 sounds muffled. GT-1000 lacked a bit of bass but very close to the real amp.
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the music!!!
Thank you also for sharing your findings!
Yes. Its true. I have got FM9, but i am going to buy GT1000.
Nice comparison. Great tone and song! I think the Boss missed a lot of the low end...but considering the price is probably the winner in my opinion.
Hi, thank you really appreciated! Thank you also for sharing your opinion!!!
Tutto grandioso, caro Leo, cominciando dalla demo song! Bello sto gt1000! Un abbraccio
Grazie mille!!!
I've been running a GT1000 for about 3 years. Big pluses for me are the separate outputs for my backline and straight to PA and it's easy usability live. It's a great unit.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your findings and your experience!
Hi Leo, I'm listening to the video, which is very good! I prefer the sound of the BOSS GT-1000 more bright.
THANKS
You are welcome and tank you for sharing you findings!!!
Thanks! They all sounded good. Amp always win. But, considering prices, Boss GT1000 seems to make sense
Hi Leandro, thank you for your message! Yes, the value for money is an important parameter to evaluate.
Thank you once more!
Great work Leo. Gretings from Czech republic 🙂
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the video!!!
hello Leo...thanks for your videos they are great...
Please, I want to tell you the following:
I am a user of the fractal brand... and among other equipment I bought an fm3 some time ago... in the details of the comparison in item block=57 for fm3 and 24 for GT1000, I think there is an error. for the FM3 you can't use more than 11 blocks, including the AMP/CAB, so there are only 9 blocks available... as long as you don't use high reverb or high delay or CAB Ultra Res because the CPU doesn't allow more than 6 block in this case... that is, using maximum quality only 6 block... in the case of the boss gt1000/and core....it is always possible to use the 24 block...
Hi Jorge, thank you both for the compliments and for sharing your opinion and experience! Good points...
Thank you so much!
Thank you Alvaro, really appreciated!!! Thank you also for sharing your opinion and experience!!!
Another great video Leo thank you, awesome playing too!
Thank you, your appreciation really means a lot to me!!!
Leo, once again what a fantastic content! It is really amazing!
I really would like to see more FM3 stuff. Thanks
Hi thank you so much!!! I really appreciated your message and it makes me happy!!! Yes, the FM3 deserves more videos...I need time....😊
I liked your video as usual as I am considering an unit like these two.
On the other hand, regarding the sample rate, there are some obvious advantages and disadvantages in increasing it:
The main disadvantage is that you have less time to do the processing or, in other words, you need more DSP power to do the same;
One big advantage is that you are farther away from alias, which allows you to have less demanding low pass filters to avoid it.
HEY Leo does it matter? when your playing outshines them all in a mix. Great Rock tune:)
Thank you, really appreciated!!!!
Hi Leo!!Thanks for this review!!!I`m actually considering of buying the new Boss GT-1000Core which is much closer in size with the FM3!Be well!!!
Thank you George, really appreciated! The core seems a pretty cool unit...I can't wait to put my hands on....
Amazing Solo.
Thank you Nikolaus, really appreciated!
Be well and safe sir!
Leo you have great chops!
Thank you John, your feedback is really important for me!!!
Just my Opinion... I would've loved to have heard the Stock Cabs from Both with No IRS.. I think that would have been the best comparison..
Hi Terence, I see your point, and it makes sense. Let me just say that:
1) using the internal cab the differences would have become so big, that the sound of the pure amp simulation could not have been recognizable
2) IRs are cheap and widely available, so anyone can get one
3) with the same IR, we can really focus on the amp sound simulation
Thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hi Leo. Great video! I have a cople of questions:
(I'm looking for a guitar/bass processor)
Greetings from Mexico! 🌮🇲🇽
Hi, thank you so much, I'm happy that you like the video!!!
1) Yes, it is mainly derived from the limited foot switches. At least for me 3 are too few...of course you can add an external midi controller..
2) Yes, you can use the FM3 for bass...it has amps / cabs also for bass
Thank you!
Leo deberías tener mas suscriptores, tus videos son excelentes y muy descriptivos
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you like the videos!!!
The Boss sounded closer to the real amp to me , while the Fm3 delivered an unpleasant boxy tone. Thanks for the review , i might go for the G1000 Core one of these days , seems perfect for a desktop usage.
Hi, thank you, really appreciated! Thank you also for sharing your opinion!
I will have to disagree. The FM3 sounded way more accurate and realistic.
I also disagree. I find boss tone quiet different to the real thing. FM3 was a little bassy, but much closer to the real amp than the boss. Just my opinion. Great job, Leo!
Thank you, appreciated!!!!
Hi Leo, great that you did this comparison I asked you weeks ago.👍😀
I found it interesting that in the intro song all devices nearly sound the same (ok, l only listen through my iPad yet) and in the following comparison there are heavy differences especially regarding thr high end.
Thank you Michael, I'm really happy that you are enjoying the IRs!!!
Thank you for letting me know!!!
After an other listening of "more sounds" the Boss is obviously A LOT MORE dynamic , more strings separation , articulation , and reaction to pick attack . Personnaly I prefer a few choices of better quality than an immense choice where you have to spend too much time on tweaking knobs and parameters
Hi Fabrice, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Thank you!
First place from me: Tube Amp -- 2. Boss -- 3. Fractal,
better more playing that tweaking.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
nah, boss sounds like a toy, it misses a lot of harmonics
your guitar solo is awesome ! great technique & sound !
Thank you, really appreciated!!!
Thanks!
Thank you, both for the compliments and for sharing our opinion!!!
Sweet guitar! Boss "sounded" better to me and probably easier to use, yes?
Thank you!!! I think that BOSS has less parameters to tweak, but the computer interface for me is clearer and easier in the FM3. Of course with the FM3 you really have to spend a lot of time understanding all the parameters you can tweak and their behavior...you have to became a "virtual amp tech"....😊
Thank you for your message!
If only they can do GT1K a tad smaller with just 4 pedals+1 ctrl+EXP pedal. Thanks for the share and great information. #staysafe
You are welcome! I do agree...a smaller version, with a bigger screen...
Como siempre, perfecto.
Thank you, really appreciated!!!
Bravissimo,ti seguo sempre 💪🏻💪🏻!
Ciao, grazie mille!!! I tuoi complimenti mi fanno veramente piacere!
Secondo me, se non hai bisogno di una pedaliera, Axe FX II (non andrei sulla generazione ancora precedente) è ottimo!
@@LeoGibsonGtr Allora forse è meglio rimanere sulle nuove headrush,Ge 300 & Co.
L’Axe fxII costa ancora parecchio anche se usato, poi ormai al giorno d’oggi pure con una Ge 250 puoi ricavare ottimi suoni.
Grazie per avermi risposto,grande💪🏻
Grazie a te!
Thank you Erik, your appreciation of my video really makes me happy!!!
I am looking for the best unit to play clean sounds through headphones. So far I favor HeadRush over the GT1000. I’m wondering what you think of the Fractal for my type of use. Thanks. Fred
Great vid as always Leo, Can you share your backing track of this demo song I really love it !!!
Thank you, I'm happy you like it! ... well...you are right...I should do it...maybe in the next weeks....
@@LeoGibsonGtr Thank you
Very helpful, I thought the sound of the boss was closer to the real plexiglass👍👍
Thank you, really appreciated! Thank you also for sharing your opinion!
I’d love to see this comparison redone. Cygnus changed the modeling completely and is miles better than at the time of this comparison. I think the sound comparison section would be completely different today.
Hi, thank you for sharing your suggestions!
The GT 1000 sounded closer just lacked bass and low mid, the FM3 sounded muffled I’d get option paralysis with the FM 3 with all that tweaking available and it’s 3 times the price of the Boss

@@LeoGibsonGtr 😊
@@LeoGibsonGtr nice content, stellar playing, keep it up👍. Comunque Treviso..Mestre o giù di lì 😉
Thank you!
Really loved your amp modeler comparison series 💗
Really gives me insight as a modeler user and potential buyer 👌
Good job and keep the hard work sir! 🙏💪
Thank you, your appreciation of my work is really important for me!!!
im still left wanting...hopefully the quad cortex or the bluguitar amp x delivers..
Hi Albert, I'm in the waiting list for the quad cortex....I hope it arrives soon...thank you!
Thank you, really appreciated!!! as soon as I will be able to get the GT 1000 core, I will for sure do a review!!! Thank you once more!!!
If i give you ONLY a FM3, you are gonna dial in your marshall tone with the EQ, If i give you ONLY a GT1000, you are going to do the same, and then you compare, I like your playing verry much Leo, but i don't think people can decide which one is better for them this way
Wow....the real amp sounds much better than the Boss or FM3...especially with your IR...and I own the FM3!!No substitute for the real thing..
Hi Scott, thank you for your message and for sharing your opinion!
From this particular video, GT1000 Core clearly wins. The FM3 sounds pretty muddy and brings lots of frequencies I then have to remove with EQ. I am sure you can spend hours tweaking FM3 though, but their default still not as good as GT1000.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion... and I do agree...the parameters of the fM3 are infinite...
At least in this video boss is more similar to real plexi then fm 3
Hi thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hi, thank you for sharing all these valuable info!!!
You should get a commission off both these companies! You've just persuaded me to upgrade from my Axe FX Ultra to the GT1000!
😊 Thank you, I'm happy to have been of some help!
This is very big difference.
th-cam.com/video/Bz3132iF9d4/w-d-xo.html
Hi, if I remember it well, in this comparison I've loaded the IR in the GT 1000.
Thank you for your question.
Hi, thank you for the video suggestion. The sound coming from the DAW is pretty bad, seems to be without the IR.
@@LeoGibsonGtr are you on neural quad cortex waiting list?
Great playing!
Thank you, your appreciation is really important for me!!
Hey Leo
I’m torn on getting a fm3 or just using stl tonehub or other. just want the best tone. Opinion pls and thx.
Hi Joel, I don't have the tonehub, but the FM3 is really a great unit in my opinion! Thank you for your message!
buy the best you can afford and explore it to the maximum you can
Between original post and now the FM3 has gotten better with firmware updates. I have an Axefx3 over 1 1/2 years and I'm still getting updates that make it better and better. That FM3 can nail that plexi, I'd almost guess that turning down the "normal drive" to 3 would do it.
Fractal all the way! Modeling quality is on another level and the editor is way better!
Hi Matthias, thank you for sharing your findings!
again great , well thougtout vid . like the no bull shit trying to push sales .. very refreshing great... mooer 250 still calling me tho
Thank you, really appreciated!!!
Waow, that's when the rude reality hit our ears : Amazing back to back comparison, it's almost funny how bad these units sound :-) Thank you for this demos.
You are welcome, thank you for your message!
Thank you David, both for the compliments and for sharing your opinions!!!
i think it sounds GREAT!!!, leave the low ends for the bassplayers
As usual, amp is better, but GT1000 beat FM3 in this case. Good to know since I have my eyes on GT1000Core ;)
Hi thank you for sharing your opinion!
Hi, yes...the FM3 has tons of parameters to explore...
Thank you for your message!

Is there still a point to buy a Axe-Fx II in 2021 for the same price of the fm3 ? I'm a bit lost with this idea.
I think that the FX II is still a pretty good unit...but at the same price of the FM3, I don't know...it's seems to much....just an opinion...
@@LeoGibsonGtr I am looking for my first serious unit to mainly play at home (i'm sick of plugins lol) every opinion are good to take, thanks for your reply :)
You are welcome! I think that at a couple of hundreds bucks less that the FM3, the FX II is still a pretty good unit.
I'll take the Boss.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Si tocas bien, cualquier cosa suena bien, que queres que te diga.
Thank you Gabriela!
FM3 😍
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!!!
For long term investment I choose Boss .I have had no problems ordering Boss parts for older and discontinued Boss products.Fractal seems to drop off when a Item is discontinued .The original Fractal Axe FX standard is no longer supported in any way from Fractal
Hi, good observation. Thank you!
Real amp +1
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
boss sucks here this video made my desicion to buy fractal thanks for video and also i want to say that gains are not equal with fractal and amp cause sounds feel to me amp has much gain
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
i want to how you play this solo awesome licks there 11:47
Thank you for you message and your suggestions!
the Boss GT 1000 sounds so close to real amp .
I’m quite surprised to hear that I like the Boss better than the FM3. Of course neither touch the real Plexi.
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience and your findings!
I prefer the Boss GT 1000
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Great playing 😊😎👍cut them strings will scratch your Gibson headstock 😱😱😱😱😊
Thank you!!! you are right...😊
Boss b killin
Hi Bill, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Boss win this 🎸
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!!!
N Thankx u showing that fractal audio still need to work alot
You are welcome!!! You really need to explore all the infinite parameters at your disposal, understand their behaviours and tweak them.
I'd say get a real amp AND any of these multi fx units and you are set for the near future.
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
FM3
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Boss👍
Thank you!
Fractal remains unbeatable
Hi Iszaac, thank you for sharing your opinion!
for the moment....
The FM3 always sounds like muddy doo doo. Why? Fractal can't just fix that? Do they not have ears over there?
Thank you...yes, with the GT1000 core you should get even better results...I have not check it out myself...maybe in the coming videos...
Im surprised how muffled was the FM3, lacking defintion specialy in the plexy comparison. Boss is the New BOSS....
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
Dall'audio sembrano quasi tutte uguali, dipende sotto le mani cosa si prova e quanta dinamica hanno
What was wrong with the FM3 here? It can sound much better! The Boss kills it in this comparison...strange.
Hi Andrè, in this video I was using the exact same settings of the amp both for the GT 1000 and the FM3. In my opinion in this situation it is quite interesting to notice that the GT1000 lacks some bass and the FM3 lacks some high frequencies...we would need to track the units...I'm pretty sure that the FM3 can get really close, but you have to spend a lot of time investigating and understanding the parameters...the GT 1000 on the other hand is a little bit closer without tweaking, but I'm not sure if it can get as close as the FM3 if we start tweaking.....maybe this is a topic for another video...😊
Thank you for sharing your opinion and for your message!!!
@@LeoGibsonGtr a little bit closer? The GT1000 was much closer.
But i know that the FM3 can sound even closer.
A new vid with tweaking would be great!
Thnx!
You are welcome!
why, maybe other brands are starting to catch up, the smart poeple d'ont all work for fractal, i think fractal is goiing to step up if they want to stay leader
@@ine_laura They do all the time with firmware updates, i'v have my AXE FX 3 for 1 1/2 years and it just keeps getting better and better, same with the FM3.
To my ears : FM3 sound has more Mid range and character than the Boss
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!
That’s why I only play on Kemper or real amp. Others aren’t serious and are full of aliasing noises in highs and have approximated lows. Meh
Hi, thank you for sharing your opinion!!!
i sold my kemper , the effects are the worst i've ever heard
Neither, I am getting the FM9 😁.
😊...good choice!
In my opinion effects are a pretty personal choice, therefore what's good for you may not good for other...but generally speaking , Fractal effects are best in class.
Thank you once more!
Can't believe FM3 is so bad
, no it's not. Real thing is real thing maybe forever.
