Leon, good info. I think it's at the point now where some devices model so much stuff, you're now getting so many things you'd probably never or rarely use. I think the Boss choice here is interesting because most of us want a good clean, slight breakup, crunch and a good amount of gain with effects. Looks like a good way to go if you don't want to get hung up on having to have a specific model name. Most devices will get you these sounds now.

Very nice video. Very helpful as always. You seem to be the one that has got things down with the GT-1000. However, since the new slimmed, trimmed down has hit the shores, the GT-1000CORE, I would suggest a comparison video of that one VS - hear this - the Strymon Iridium. Now, just turn off all effects from the CORE and stick to IR's and amp modelling, as CORE (as well as GTK) has mainly 3-4 amp models to choose from, and they made sure they made those few being great, as well as Iridums 3-4 models to, and the possibility to load own IR's, I think that would be a very fruitful comparison.
Then all the effects, will just turn a very good icing on the cake on top of it all. Because I think the CORE will be an alternative to Iridium users, rather than wow the Helix fans over.

One question: looking forward to Black Friday deals to get an amp modeller, but I have a big problem:
    - Love Kemper Stage's profiling and sharing capability.
    - Love GT 1000 core's size and price point.
    - Love Neural Cortex's promising specs and UI based on nothing yet.

like any other modeler, custom IRs are the way to go with TH-U. I have the Slate edition, which does not come with a custom IR loader, just 15 ownhammer ones, but they sound good, way better than the cab sims of the plugin. The rig library also makes it shine, cuz it is essentially a kemper that models a whole signal - drive pedal, amp, cab and mics.

Hi Leon. Regarding the clean sound and the gain switch (02:05): I own the GT-100 and am still working with it live, but I'm not happy or satisfied with the FEEL any more. The actual SOUNDS are pretty much okay, I did a lot of tweaking to make them as good as they can possibly get. But now I plan to upgrade to the GT-1000 because it's simply a big step forward. My question is: When I switch the gain switch from MID to HIGH and also lower the gain setting on the gain control, the result is almost - but not completely - the same as if I left the gain switch on MID and cranked up the gain control. Why is this? Obviously there are more parameters involved than I had thought. Just like you I prefer the HIGH switch position with a gain setting of around 50. Cheers!

It’s just one of those moments in your testing that I seriously forgot how good Ty Tabor is on tone in general. Seen them 4 times in my life and to this day, they are never boring. I’m going to be trading in my GT-1, GT-B1, and my AKG Dual wireless, with my lightly used Michael Kelly guitar for the GT-1000. You sold me.

Trying to pick an amp modeler is a total nightmare. For me fractal comes out top with the fm3. But I can't justify that for home playing. So I looked at everything and the final contestants are the GT 1000 core and the MX stomp. Boy do I miss the days when you only had to pick s new tube amp. It's really hard to pick a modeler based on TH-cam videos.

So I'm asking of these 4 models which would you choose, with amp model sounds being the main criteria followed by price vs performane? Zoom G5N, Zoom G11, Boss GX-100 or Boss GT-1000?

I've had the GT 1000 for a few days and what I've noticed is that, granted you have the proper "output select" set, it disquises your amp as another amp.
Like most amp models will sound as if you Mic'd the amp you are modeling in another room and are monitoring it on your Amp. Which definitely works better on a PA.
But if you tell the GT1000 that you are going through an amp and tell it what amp/amp-type you are going through, it makes your amp sound like that amp.
I did a side by side between the AC30 model (going through a Vox MV50 clean on a 1x12 cab) and a real AC15. The tonal characteristics are the same. It's weird though.. At low volumes in a bedroom, you can tell that the Vox Ac15 just sounds how it sounds, but the other amp sounded as if it had some weird EQ settings going on.. It's hard to describe. Like they sounded pretty much the same, but you can tell one was just doing it's thing and one was wearing a disguise.
However It's possible it's just my eyes deceiving me. Also I think in a live setting, when the amp actually gets cranked loud, it probably would feel more legitimate. Especially because I assume the GT1000 is modeling an AC30 in it's sweet spot, while I'm playing at late-night apartment levels.
As far as the dynamic saturation response... When using output selections it seems like the GT1000 tries to account for real saturation from your real amp in combination with the simulated saturation in the model. In my case, I was using a Vox MV50 clean at pretty low volume, so I had a TON of headroom that the real vox ac15 did not have. This also isn't among the amps listed under Output Select, so I had to use the generic "Tube 112 Combo" Option. So it seemed like the GT-1000 model was cleaner than the vox ac15, but I think this is just because the GT1k didn't expect my "Tube 112 Combo" to have as much headroom as it does. It is silly to look at it this way.. If it sounds good, it sounds good. But if I did want it to match 99%, I could just turn up the gain on the Amp Model to compensate for the large headroom on the real amp.

    • @robertreynolds9961
      @robertreynolds9961 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The boss is modeling what you expect the aml to sound like ...not the actually amp. That's why boss isnt as good in my opinion...it soubds good..but each amp can only sound one-way ... Classic examples of what we think the amp sounds like.

Dude, old post but true. I'm dying to side by side with a kemper, helix or quad owner. I swear between the EQs, multiple amps, effects, dual signal chain. There is nothing this thing cant sound like. The quad can have two inputs but thats about the only advantage. I can get any sound they can.

Thanks for explaining and demonstrating Sag and Resonance! I've watched a lot of your Fractal videos even though I don't own one and probably never will. I do own a GT-1000 and there is not much good material like what you do here available. I particularly like how you bring us into what you are hearing and how you explain what you like and don't like as you make adjustments. If you could do some "5 minute tones" for the GT-1000 that would be great! Also if you could stay away from downloaded IR's or do that as a totally separate thing. At this point I find the IR thing a rabbit hole and Boss only gave a couple slots anyway. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
