    Good hunting, good video. The .223 is indeed a nice calibre for open country, very fast and enough punch to do the job. Doesn't make much noise. Be sure to read my NZ hunting memoir RED DEER WRITING, now available as a paperback book and as a Kindle e-book, only from amazon. Plenty of my good South Island hunting adventures from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

    Three years ago now when we welcomed in the New Year with the same epic sunset/sunrise camped out under the stars. Excellent shooting from the Brothers once again, Jack on fire!

    I'm in my 50s now and I'm a Pom ! 15 years ago I spent a year in the kawakas with the men of Roydhouse pest control. I nearly died a few times got stuck out bush overnight in the middle of winter made to eat some strange shit like lambs tails cooked on Coles had run in with a certain gang my Mrs left me and kept my dog . Worth it I would be back on the next flight. That yearling is going to be some fine eating

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow lots going on. It certainly doesn’t surprise me about the lambs tails etc.
      I’m sorry to here about your Mrs and dog, that’s rough.
      Yes the yearling was great. Thanks for watching 👍😁

    Wow, the sunrise shots were spectacular. In the video the CC showed the word "healing". Was it correct? Is it a local term for some kind of deer? By the way, happy new year.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, we call a young deer that is older than a fawn but not fully mature, a “yearling”. It is one year old, or in its second year but not yet had offspring. Think this is what you are referring to? Thanks for watching, much appreciated 👍😁 Happy New year, stay safe.

    MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼 ………………………………. I had to stop the video and google to see if y’all have any poisonous snakes. Sleeping under the stars in Virginia, USA may get you a bed buddy in the form of a Copperhead or Rattle Snake! LOL!! Good shooting!

      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello my friend. Ha yes we are lucky here in NZ with no snakes etc. The biggest killer out in the wilderness here is weather and falling of bluffs, followed closely by rivers.
      I would certainly have some new things to learn hunting in your area. Thanks for watching, stay safe out there 😁👍

    Nice with the. 223 👌 taking mine out in feb. What gr bullet you using? Thanks 👍

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I will use the heavier 75gr ELD-M for the longer ranges but honestly most of my general shooting with the 223 is factory 55 or 62 gr ammunition that is affordable. As long as it’s accurate in your rifle it’s more than capable of taking deer out to 250 with well placed shots or even a little further with the right setup and conditions. However when it comes to larger animals I try to get as close as possible. Great little cartridge the 223. Good luck 👍👍

    • @marcallan1204
      @marcallan1204 ปีที่แล้ว

      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting great thanks. I'm making a 55gr gameking for a 1/12 twist rem 700 👌👍

      @@marcallan1204 Nice, that should be a great combo. The 1/12” seem to shoot well even when pushed fast too.

    • @MegaWebsters

      Yeh, the cam clothing and the background white rock and green was a complete match.

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MegaWebsters Yeah it’s great for the alpine stuff but in general I find the darker camouflages to be more versatile. Too much white and it starts to really stand out on dark.
      It all depends on where you hunt I guess .
