Would you do one where you talk to your shooter, making wind calls and moa corrections at the same time?
Example, wind left to right, 5 mph hold left 1 moa
Different shots, would like to hear those calls and corrections.

      Thanks mate, much appreciated.
Every mammal we hunt in NZ is introduced and with no natural predators it’s up to hunters, both recreational and professional to control numbers. We have to control numbers to a manageable level to avoid damage to our native ecosystem. It’s a unique situation as every time we harvest and animal we help our environment. I do believe there is a balance between having these animals and a thriving native environment but it’s must be managed. So yes with goats, they breed fast so it’s important to keep on top of numbers. We eat them as well as utilise them for food for our working dogs. Cheers 👍👍

I live on a small island off the west coast of Scotland. Introduced animals over the years have
caused havoc with the bird life and the land. Rabbits were introduced and have destroyed vast areas of the fragile topsoil as well as being a hazard to cattle because of the burrowing. Somebody had the bright idea of starting a mink farm in the late 60s. When the price of mink collapsed a lot of them were let loose. Somebody else inroduced ferrets to control the rabbits. This decimated the bird and hen population. The latest act of ignorance about 10 years was somebody who couldn't be bothered taking their hedgehog pets back to the mainland and let them loose. They have trashed the population of nesting birds as they have no natural predator. You couldn't make it up. @@controlledrecoil-nzhunting

Yes many of that is similar to the situation here as we have many introduced predators that were let go to control rabbits that really prefer birds. I have been a professional trapper for stoats, possums, ferrets and feral cats along with a few others. The depth of the problem goes to another level with these animals.

    • @johnmead8437

@@controlledrecoil-nzhunting Its likely a situation of those predators not passing up poultry (& reptiles, insects etc, which they take a huge toll on) to get a rat, rabbit etc.
The birds etc also suffer from the enormous modification of habitat by ungulates etc. Strenuously denied by "hunters" whose in depth knowledge (just watch TV experts, GAC'ers etc) and effectiveness has resulted in NZ now having more pests & damage than any time since the 1960's, possibly since their introduction.
If on contract, the effectiveness of trapping for useful control would be rapidly apparent if a successful operator, it simply can't compete with poison. The traps, shooting & dogs come into their own for eradication completion. They have an essential place, it's simply seldom well applied. Including by so called professionals, DoC & Tahr come to mind.

@controlledrecoil-nzhunting I would buy a hat and a sweatshirt if you make them, but I really wanted a few stickers, preferably round, maybe around 2 - 3 inch diameter of your logo, for my rifle stock and hard case! So if you make stickers, do a weatherproof vinyl type that will last.
And my advice would be to start small with the merch thing... stickers, hats, t-shirts, and sweatshirts, just to see how it goes before you invest in things like backpacks or bino-packs.
And if you can, reach out to other TH-cam channels who have merch that you like to see where they are getting theirs made. They might not want to tell you, but it's worth a try.

Hi, I mainly have Tikka rifles as my primary choice but also have plenty of others.
This one was a 308. I use both high powered and subsonic ammunition in this rifle. The 168gr ELD-M at 2530fps and the SubX 190gr at 1050fps. 16” barrel.
Element Optics 2-16x50 HDLR. Well our ranges vary a lot. I’d say most people in this type of terrain would shoot out to 300yards reasonably regularly but some will regularly shoot to 500-600yards. Of course you can usually get closer.
Depends on the terrain and opportunities. In heavy bush areas I know people the have never shot past 150.

Hi, yes I certainly do. Putting food on the table is one of the main reasons I go hunting. I try to utilise as much as possible. That being said controlling pig numbers is a must and we loose thousands of dollars to pig damage every year. Although I took meat from the best of these animals, in this case the main goal was to control numbers. Most of my hunts are focused on recovering meat either for ourselves, friends and our working dogs. However as you can see in the video we have had a tough year of pigs so this was priority.

    What load you use subs

    • @controlledrecoil-nzhunting
      @controlledrecoil-nzhunting  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your support of the channel.
Reloading can be dangerous. I can’t take responsibility for how you use this information. Please be aware of the dangers and to approach these loads with caution.
This data has been obtained and tested in my rifles but every rifle is different. Be cautious. I recommend reading a credible reloading manual before you attempt any reloading activities. Your safety is the main priority.
With subsonic rounds you start several grains higher and work down (opposite to high powered rounds). Make sure every round has cleared the barrel and make sure they are stable before using a suppressor to avoid the risk of baffle strike. Be cautious of misfires as they maybe hang-fires (going off seconds after).
I crimp my subsonic rounds to help with the neck tension as I’ve found it reduces velocity variations. So seated to the Cannelure on the subX 190gn.
I shoot a thick cardboard box at 50yards to test stability - without suppressor first.
Look for nice round holes on both sides to insure it isn’t going sideways, or has significant yaw.
Remember Trail Boss is incredibly light for its size so I highly recommend not using electric scales, unless they are very sensitive ones, and go with the good old manual balance types if possible as some electric scales struggle to pick up the very small increments it seems, depending on the unit.
Velocity spread is the main battle with subs , so make sure everything is very consistent. Every inconsistency is exaggerated because of the low velocity. If you get this right you can shoot a surprising distance- 160yard with shoulder shots ( using SubX projectiles. Conventional ones lack expansion).
If the velocity spread is higher than 25fps you will quickly see vertical stringing at distance.
      My data is as follows:
      308 Winchester.
      190gr Hornady SubX
      Powder- Trail Boss.
      Sako brass
      Standard rifle primer- Winchester WLR
      For 16” barrel 1/11” twist: 10.5gn
      1055 fps
      For 18.5” Barrel 1/10” twist: 10.5gn
      1040 fps
      For 24” Barrel 1/10” twist: 9.8gn
1035-1045 fps. NOTE: Magnum primer on this load. Winchester WLRM.
This should give a good idea out of most platforms.
Remember any change of any component’s
Could lead to a very different result.
The sound barrier changes slightly with air density so I recommend having 20 FPS gap as a minimum to insure its subsonic in all conditions.
Please check rounds are clearing the barrel when testing. They can get stuck if the load is too low.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask questions if anything doesn’t make sense.
      Thanks for the support.
      Good luck.
      Cheers,
      Tom.
