This video comes at a good time. I recently started getting in the prone position, but hadn’t progressed to the first progression, Knees on Elbows. But I was able to do it tonight for a few seconds at a time. This should give me something to work toward. Thanks!

Dr. Tobias thank you for another great video… spasticity tends to be my nemesis when doing these types of exercises. I do have a request… could you send a clone of yourself to Chicago? I would love to further my future therapy with you!

Totally awesome content as usual.i really appreciate these particular exercises, especially the ones that are done from the standing position. I do a standing push up against the wall with my feet away from the wall some.

I also started gradually from the standing variant, so the support is lower and lower, and now I am trying to endure as correctly and as long as possible. I gradually exercise with a Pilates ball, it's a lot harder for me. Gradually and persistently is the recipe for success. Have a nice week.

I really wish someone would’ve showed me all of this I’m about to hit four years out and no one would teach me how to get on my stomach I even asked therapy they said it’s not safe. I had to beg them to teach me how to get up and down off the floor.

Is there a reason why my left arm which is the involved arm can't reach up above my ear? And I just figured out I can do all that the arm exercises while on my back like in your other videos but I am still weak when I am on my right side and trying to do the reaching over my head. Arm to my elbow is strong but elbow to wrist and fingers are shaky. And I feel my whole arm is weaker if I am looking straight while on my right but arm felt stronger if my head is turned to the left while I life my left arm while on my right. Is it just me or is there a way to get pass it?

Prone on elbow can be, but real plank can no longer be because my right hand is hard. Maybe the hand has started to bend and soft, just make real plank. Thank you Dr Tara Tobias.

Would this work if I did it from my bed? I'm currently in a nursing home and I need to learn how to stand before I can get down on the floor because I'd be all by myself on the floor right now with no skills or strength at all to push myself up! I hurt my spinal cord and had an operation from c2 to c7 there is a plate now and I spent 9 months in the hospital relearning how to do everything all over again! I do practice the push up things on a handrail on the wall and walk standing straight up with my walker but after just a little while start hunching forward while walking.. but I know I need these skills to eventually stand on my own! My situation is where half of my body is not as effected as my right side! Will starting this on my bed be better than nothing?

Thanks for sharing your story Douglas! I am glad to read all of the hard work you are doing in the nursing home! Have you asked your doctor if he can re-order PT? Even if you have been previously discharged, sometimes if you can show you have made some progress you can ask for a re-assessment to restart PT services. If you are currently getting PT, does your SNF have a rehab gym?

Yes but because of covid restrictions it isn't open yet and this is a new idea that I just learned from you and haven't been able to run it by them yet but I'm almost exactly a year since my injury and despite my asking and asking about learning to stand so in case I'm alone and fall, how would I get back up? And we still haven't worked on it and basically my recovery from here is up to me they tell me and that basically they will revisit me from time to time and so I like your ideas alot and I do do push-ups against the wall with my feet back but I am still very weak I'm 46 and was totally paralyzed from my neck down for a few long weeks and very very slowly they worked with me everyday and now I continue to push hard just like I did when I was in the hospital! It's been a long road to get here and I'm not stopping ever! I walk with a walker I have alot of spasticity so I know how hard it is to deal with everyday! I get spasms really really bad in bed and getting up and out of bed but I'm on medications for everything so I'm relatively good! So should I try those in my bed? Lol
