- It is possible to prevent the spread and progression of osteoarthritis ✅
In order to do so, it's important to make sure you understand what osteoarthritis is and what is actually going on inside of your joints...as many people are led astray.
Osteoarthritis is not solely a "wear and tear" condition and this is good news because it means relief is possible. Research has uncovered that inflammation is one of the big drivers in the progression of osteoarthritis. Taking a look at what increases inflammation as well as how you can modify those factors is key to stopping your arthritis from getting worse.

I can’t thank you enough for all the information you share, I am a 60 year old with severe osteoarthritis in my feet and knees and after watching you for some years now I have gone from barely being able to move to now walking daily without much pain at all, I am so very appreciative of your help ❤
I am so glad to hear that! That is such a great accomplishment! Thanks for following my channel on your journey.
That is wonderful to hear! May I ask if you have followed just exercise or diet improvement as well. I'm thrilled for you and the improvement in the quality of your life. Well done you ❤
And we didn’t get to this condition totally by physical damage or genetics but also by DIET. AS I’ve altered diet and decreased sugar/ tomatoes etc my body feels and operates at 60’s now. I am 80 😊 These PT tips are SO HELPFUL for enjoying activities 👍
I decided to stopp taking kortison. I changed my diet to less milk and gluten, and the inflamations stopped. Those are the largest triggers to inflamations. I also started to take glucosamin, collagen and tumetic. And do easy exercises, mostly streching, and meditate with music with low frequenses. My life has changed!
I am new to osteoarthritis and trying to understand it. May sound weird but this brought me to tears because you explained it so well and how and why nutrition and exercise help. I signed on with a wonderful and patient personal trainer and exercise does make me feel better but then when I eat something I get so much pain/flareup, but this made so much sense. My grocery list has lots of fruits and veggies on it. You got me excited to conquer this. Thank you.
You got this! I'm so glad you liked the video! My channel is here for information and support! I am already liking your grocery list :)
It doesn't sound weird to me friend, I understand completely! Alyssa brings that wonderful thing called HOPE, when you felt hopeless and on a downward spiral! Good luck on your journey - good luck everyone
You have given me HOPE! THANK GOD FOR YOU!!! 🙏
You got this!!! Thank you so much for watching and being apart of this great community.
I have RA as well as Osteoarthritis. Movement is key for me. I swim and I farm , I have animals and stay very busy. The more I move and have weight bearing exercises, he better it is for me.
If is am sedentary, I hurt am stiff and just not happy.
And you are so right inflammation is the main thing I have to watch for in both diseases.
Thank you for sharing to the community. I'm glad you liked the video.
Many people keep moving for that reason. Keep moving and stretching as you can.
I have OA multiple places and I have to constantly keep moving as well. Siting around I too get stiff and achy. Movement is key!
I've been diagnosed with bilateral knee OA. I've completed a Prolotherapy ozone injection 2 months ago. Now I'm doing physiotherapy sessions. Exercises and diet are really important that can help to live a life with OA normally 😊. I've been following Dr. Alyssa YT since I've been diagnosed with OA. It really helps a lot and motivates patients like us😊😊😊
WOW, what an incredible teacher you are Alyssa! My GP nor my rheumatologist ever explained my PSA and OA in the manner in which you have in 19 minutes. I have noticed since starting to exercise every morning that not only have I lost weight, (at a plateau right now) but my Metabolic Panel changed as well, and I don't hurt quite as much (it still happens though). Thank you for taking the time to actually explain in detail what is really going on inside the joints. If I haven't said it before I'll say it now, you have the most GORGEOUS legs and I envy them to pieces. 😍
I appreciate you sharing to our community! I am so glad you've seen such a benefit from the channel. Thanks for the compliment too :)
I have osteoporosis in both hips. The anti-cancer five-year medication was the reason it developed. Now I do light weight-bearing exercise to keep my balance in check so I don’t have any falls. I really love your channel!! 🥰
Thank you so much for this informative video! My neighbor had arthritis and became a vegetarian..she no longer has any pain and is thriving.
You're welcome and thank you for sharing!
Same here
Alyssa is very right. When i am constipated or when i est sugar, junk food, processed food, my knees hurt. But when i have regular bowel movements, when i eat healthy with lot of vegetables and fruits, i have no pain, no stiffness.
All in all, exercise, eat right, lose weight, take care of your health holistically will help reduce inflammation which is the cause of all illnesses.
Thanks for sharing!
How to bring down inflammation? Can you please guide me.
@@thetree7694 eat raw vegetables and fruits bring down inflammation.
. Meat and dairy and fried food increase inflamation.
I was on vacation near the ocean and my arthritis pain was very minimal. When I returned home, the arthritis pain in my hands especially returned with a vengeance! Is there a correlation between environment/climate and arthritis pain?
@@CapeCodBelle nature is the best healer, especially the sun and the fresh air from ocean. Try to be in the sun early in the morning before 10am, and after 4pm. Now you know why you feel good when you go on vacation.
Breathe deeply, slowly fresh air. Do all these things even when you are not on vacation. Just take a walk in parks, in neighborhood, on your balcony, in your yard, enjoying morning sun and fresh air. Do not look directly at sun.
I can’t believe how changing my diet helped my knees and walking . I love these videos
So glad to hear you love the videos.
I have osteoarthritis I have a lots of problem some time to get up when I get up thank you for sending all those who has osteoarthritis 👍
You are so welcome and thanks for watching.
Thank you for your videos. You present so professionally and have been an extreme help to me for Osteoarthritis
in my hip. You are so very thorough and I appreciate how caring and understanding that you are . Thank You!
I appreciate your kind words and I'm so glad you've gotten so much help from the channel.
I love to hear comments like yours!
Your work is a true blessing in guiding and motivating me to improve my flexibility and strength lost by arthritis.
I was one of those you mention who were told there are limited roads to a normal physical life.
Also. In this and all your TH-cam’s, I feel treated as an intelligent human.
Almost all other arthritis videos address viewers as though their intelligence and mental capacity went away from arthritis.
Thank you for sharing and I'm here to make this as easy as possible. You are powerful!
Great information! I have been doing intermittent fasting for 3 months along with organic and healthy foods. I’ve lost over 25 lbs. and feel fantastic. I do chair yoga as well as low impact cardio for at least 30 minutes every day. I’m 65 and feel 25 years younger just implementing these 3 things in a short amount of time. I had terrible acid reflux and now I no longer have to take medication for it. My arthritis has improved as well. ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing to our community. I'm glad you like the information.
Your comment comes as a big hope to me. I too will try intermittent fasting and exercising. How many hours a day shud one fast please? Where can I check Chair Yoga plz?
This is wonderful! You give me hope🙏
I have osteoporosis and your videos have helped me so much, especially for hips. Some exercises are so simply and easy, but with great relief. For me it just a lifestyle change, diet n excercise.
We have only one body
So love and take care of it
Well said and i'm so glad you've seen such a benefit with the videos.
Excellent! Keep doing what you need to stay strong and healthy.
This video is great for osteoarthritis people 👏 👌 ❤
Yep!!!
Alyssa you are a star ! You are not only informative but empathetic and encouraging. Essential for many of us who feel depressed and hopeless. Thank you so very much for listening to your patients over the years and gainjng REAL insight into how it feels to be ground down by pain, lack of sleep and despair and how to gently lift us up to improve our lives day by day. I can never thank you enough. It is a great work and service you are doing. Bless you ❤

Thank you for this, Alyssa! I appreciate your positivity as well as your suggestions for improvement!
Thank you so much for this, Alyssa. I was feeling 'doomed' by my joint pain. I'm 64 and I was feeling at the end of the rope. Those 'roadblocks' can be minimised, even avoided. Your video is so brilliant I can't thank you enough
You're so welcome! I'm glad you found the video.
Thank you so much please keep on about osteoarthritis. It is deeply appreciated.

Very well explained! Thank you Alyssa!

This information gave me hope. THANK YOU.
You got this!!!
Alyssa, this is the best presentation on the subject I have listened to since my diagnosis of hip OA stage 4, three years ago. As an OR nurse, I refused to accept two doctors‘ opinion that surgery/implant was the only solution. TH-cam lead me to you only very recently, when searching „cardio with OA“, but I confirm everything you say. I took things into my own hands, and today I am pain-free, walking pretty normal versus limping, re-building lost muscles, and the occasional cracking in the joint gets less and less. In my case, I noticed the physical load at work was too much for my very thin body. As a female after menopause, other joints deteriorated as well: rhizarthrits in both hands, metatarsalgia in the foot. All Improvisation with reducing inflammation and specific exercize. The final step was leaving the job for a physically less challenging one. Now I feel my joints regenerating, or at least Peeling good again. However, I must continue moving etc! Greetings from Berlin 🙌
Ah, this terrible auto-corrector ! 😂 Of course I meant to say everything „improved“ and „feeling“ good.
Thank you so much for sharing your personal story. I love hearing personal stories from our community.
I haven't been to Germany but hope to visit at some point.
This is so encouraging @berlinanger1987. I recently was told I was looking at hip replacement due to severe arthritis and bone spurs. The pain I have has really disrupted my sleep for about the last 6 months. I watched another video that talked about Stage 4 really being beyond help other than surgery. I wasn't given a "stage" by my doctor but the look on his face and all the bright dots and rough surfaces on my radiographs make me feel like it is Stage 4. I already know most of what Alyssa presented in this video but implementing diet has always been hard. We are better than most Americans but still fall off the wagon frequently due to not enough cooking at home. And I am a sugar addict. I know prioritizing my health is just a decision I have to make, especially now that this pain and immobility really is preventing me from taking care of and riding my horse (my passion). Wish I could afford Alyssa's full program. She is one of the most encouraging, helpful people I have found online. I love how she truly seems to understand the older, arthritic body.
@@cherylblack6943 I have bone spurs as well. But to this day, I preferred not to look at the MRI images. Too much sugar and saturated fat used to be a big problem for me as well. Gradually, I shifted habits. I get that, depending on where you live in the US, access to fresh produce can be challenging. The most important step is to start somewhere doable. Alyssa seems to have a lot of free content here that you could try. All the best!
@@berlinangel987 Thanks for once again being so encouraging. I am 71 and this intense pain that keeps me from sleeping has been so depressing. I know I have to just stop beating myself up for poor past choices and do what I know will be helpful for my body. I have a good grasp on what is required. Living in Texas I do have clean, organic produce and meats readily available. So I have NO excuses. Hope we cross paths in the future so I can leave a report as wonderful as yours.

Alyssa, very informative video. I have osteoarthritis in both my knees and have to use a cane to walk and it's painful. Some days are better than others. I am obese and have been for a few years and I am sedentary because my knees hurt when I spend too much time walking around. But your video has given me hope. Thank you for the actionable information.
I appreciate you feeling comfortable sharing to our community. Best of luck with the information and I will see you in the next video.
The key is to find activities that you find fun for motivation.
Congrats for your hope and intention to feel better! You could start slowly and gently by doing movement sessions in seated position. That way you don‘t have load on your knees while they are still inflamed. Maybe the wonderful Alyssa proposes videos like that in English language. And modify your diet to leaning more towards whole food plant-based may contribute to lower inflammation. All the best from Berlin 🙌
Excellent video
Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked the video!

I thank you for the information. It such a hope for me who has osteoarthritis grade 2 on my knees for almost 6 months. I'm Still doing exercise to reduce the pain. Now what i have to do is avoid more inflammation by doing exercise at least 30 minutes a day and have good nutrition! I really appreciate for giving this explanation.❤
I'm so glad it was helpful for you. You've got this.
Excellent video 👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Yes, I did watch twice, thank you.
Great! Glad you liked it.
I will follow u, and i will try my best. To get myself to where I once was. I have degenerative osteoarthritis in both knees, hips, and spine. Also a condition called retrolisthesis. Like the above wasent enough. Everything u said made so much sense. With all that I have taking med. For inflamation. In the last few years my exercise and movement to move has decreased lots. Will follow all u said. Hoping and believing what u said, making so much sense. I can see myself getting being in a better frame of mind. With the word HOPEFUL In mind. More active, more exercise , and movements small or big... ARE KEY. At 67., never did i think id slow down as much as I have. My most pain is in legs. Where I feel tightness, and then the bones below knees get hardened, where sometimes I cant streghtened myself or move till it passes. Very painful. Ive teued lots, got nothing to loose by doing and followin this post. Thanxs for sharing with us. Ur truly AMAZING!
Thanks for sharing your personal journey! Best of luck with this information and the channel.
Love all of your info, love your exercises. Makes a lot of sense. One thing I wonder about - Since i have bone on bone in my knees, can that actually regenerate cartilage and cushioning naturally? Or is it going to remain like this or get worse so surgery will be necessary? Can my knees heal naturally? Thank you so much!!
Very informative vid explained in the simplest way possible for a layman to understand. 👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Yes...love these recommendations. I have improved my pain by changes in my diet, especially inflammatory veggies. Started exercise and stretching. Low to no sugar, but cheat more than I'd like to admit. Sweets are my its a process, but keep moving and cleaner eating. No gluten or sugar as much as possible.
Thanks for watching and glad you loved the video!
❤ you just gave me HOPE ❤❤❤❤

Thankyou so much thanks to you i can walk so much better and my pain had reduced alot your videos have helped me so much i do the exercises every day
Much love and appreciation for what you do x
You're so welcome!
I love your videos. Such good information. I have hip pain when walking and I do your exercises. Can you explain why walking on certain surfaces causes more discomfort than others. A treadmill hardly hurts. I can walk a few miles without pain, but when I walk on outdoor sidewalks I have considerable pain almost immediately. It’s almost like a burning feeling and my hips get very stiff. Thanks for your help
Very good information 👌💐
Glad you liked it!
EXCELLENT! 😊👍
Yep!
I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, osteoarthritis in both knees and both hips, and I’ve had a hip replacement ever ever since I became a Whole Foods plant-based eater. I have been in zero pain in knees and hips and only pain in my hands so what you’re saying plays out in my life because my x-rays show all kinds of Osteo arthritis, osteoporosis, and they can’t figure out why I’m not in pain, probably because I’ve constantly move on the average of 5 miles a day and I am proof that your information is correct
Thank you so much for feeling comfortable to share. I appreciate the comment.
Thank you! All of this info made sense to me. I will make changes today to reduce my knee buckles. I am a chips and unhealthy snacks addict and will remember how I'm harming my body when I reach for the unhealthy foods.
A high fish diet with plenty of fruit and nuts, as well as kimchi and kefir yoghurt. I exercise 30 minutes 6x a day with Sunday off. I also don't drink and only drink herbal tea.

Terrific stuff Alyssa ... pitched at an appropriate level while not crossing the Bridgman Point. As a physician, I wish more of my colleagues were more up-to-date wrt the multifactorial, dynamic nature of OA evolution. I would probably add - for appropriate clients - intermittent fasting as a treatment modality.

Thank you for an informative video, but I have a question. How realistic is it for me at age 74, after hip replacement and spinal lamenectomy and spinal stenosis, and degenerative disease,, being 30 lbs overweight, to be able to achieve any positive change or impact to inflammation?
It is so hard to say definitively but I do think adopting these strategies can help almost anyone
I have found your videos do helpful and i have made such huge progress by following your advice. It makes so much sense!
Recently i have struggled with sleeping comfortably. I qake up because of pain in my knees. I have tried various things to prevent, and aleviate once i do wake. Thank you for this information! I'm wondering about saturated fat. It seems as if H/G would have eaten a lot of saturated fat in the animals they hunted. Could it be more seed oils that cause inflammation? I've been reading a lot about them.
