I'm stunned that no one has brought back the getaway. Was such a unique game and really was in a lane of its own.
It was brought back as Gangs of London on tv.. it’s technically a spiritual sequel to the games
I've never played any of the Getaway games, but it seems like a franchise worthy of a full remake, while retaining some of the realistic menchanics and no HUD.
A lot of games like it were over looked because of old reviews would either say knockoff GTas or GTa clones despite having different styles
It was effectively a rip of Guy Ritchie films which were relevant at the time, a remake would probably need some seeeeeerious work and be nowhere close to the source material
i revisited this game 16 years later , trust me , its worth playing if you never did
For a 2004 open world game, I always felt this game was amazingly advanced and detailed.
Still one of my favorites ever to this day, and I've played it when I was both a kid and an adult.
Loved how the vehicles you can drive in the game are real life cars too.
I would love it if they remastered it with modern graphics and animations, though it'll never happen

After completing this several times, I would just drive around the city endlessly for hours. I really hope this game gets the remaster that it deserves.

I live in albania and back in 2004 my brother who at the time lived in london came back home with a ps2 and a copy of this game. I literally did not even have a memory card,impossible to find for many years in my country. This game was the Dark souls of my time,had to beat it without saving it. Remember so much,the girl at the vents,the tuff bosses and the best memory,first time i prolly saw t*ts on my tv because i lurked and found out what used to happen in soho. Great times. I just finished this game on PCSX2 yearsss later after playing it as a kid and not really being old enough to understand and holy shit this game was ahead of it's time I wish they'd remaster or make a third one

I loved the getaway games. Gameplay wise this one is better but I do prefer the story for the original more.
This game was a childhood favourite of mine. My dad was a cop in England and he let me play it, although I always got him to beat the hard parts for me
What a story, what a city, what ideas. A masterpiece despite many errors and imperfections. Let's hope that one day The Getaway 3 will see the light of day with its unique atmosphere and brilliant soundtrack. Greetings Veterans :)
wish we'd get part 3. I hated the sneak missions...but Mitch and boxer's segments were fun. I think the first one is better overall, but BM was a great sequel.
“The Getaway” is arguably the greatest representation of an open-world sandbox creation of a modern London. A true lost gem. The realism of the cars and no HUD system made the game feel so unique for its time. There were some revolutionary ideas in this project, I can tell the dev team were very ambitious and passionate with this one. This is a game that would excel with a remaster or remake.
After I saw you hadn't played Black Monday in your first video i was waiting on this one. Ironically I didn't know there was a game before this but it always stuck with me as a kid. One of my brothers had it and I'd watch him play in awe at how crazy this game was. I didn't know how the game was so close to an actual movie, far more cinematic than GTA San Andreas which blew me away
What surprised me years later, a few years ago in today's time, I was even more surprised when I saw it had different endings

Never played manhunt but ive clocked warriors countless times single player and co op. Never gers boring. Only advice... on the warriors carry a knife on you as much as you possibly can whenever you get the chance.

I never played any of the getaway games but i remember vividly my cousin playing it because he was into action packed movies and while i had no idea what was going on in the story i loved the fact that its tries to feel more like a movie than a video game

Finally a youtuber who mentions the dumbin down of videogames, and how much more authentic and well designed some old games were. One thing i would still mention about this topic and its the visual design of games. Back then companies dared to make harsher and more bleak environments and situations, while most modern games look like a fucking candy shop. I miss that games took themselves seriously.
Another thing that i think needs way more praise about The Getaway series is the killer soundtrack. It is so damn classy, and dark at the same time. It fits so perfectly the UK gangster setting, and it is actually one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time.
I loved slingshotting the bikes by holding down the brake at the same time as pulling a Wheely then letting go causing the bike to fire off into an NPC 😂

What's insane to ME is that you seriously mentioned potentially covering the Warriors soon., meanwhile the footage showing you not just taking these guys out but actually cuffing them..which instantly reminded me of the "cuff removal" action in the Warriors game, which made me consider giving the Witcher a break and playing it tonight! It is a game with near perfect storytelling but isn't quite complete on the game part yet it is a enjoyable enough game that you just want to play through the glitches and other messy problems to get the entire story
Played both of the games just wish they would remaster them both as they are iconic games
Black Monday was one of my favorite games as a kid. Picked it up for like 14 bucks at our local Game Crazy back in the day that was attached to the now defunct Hollywood Video.

I remember seeing the ps2(?) case for this alongside all the other games. I thought it was a serious game for serious adults and I never saw Dad play it even once so it sat unplayed by anyone. I have always found this franchise a Tragedy of lost potential. It had scraps of genius ideas, but was perhaps far too ambitious to be fully realized on the PS2 hardware. It’s a shame that it never got the opportunity to evolve on the PS3, and possibly grow more into it’s own skin.

I think there was gonna be a Getaway 3 on PS3 but it got cancelled.
I think a big part of the reason these vids get a lot of views is that there is still a huge appetite for mature, gritty single player videogames but the reason they don't get made is that they generally don't have the same viability for microtransaction/online service type models.
AAA Developers will not simply not make "single serve" videogames anymore. That's why so many of us look back to the PS2 era so fondly!

Honestly if there was either a remake or a new game in this franchise, that would be pretty awesome. I love all the immersive stuff, with the healing mechanic, and all that.

HUDless UI and design with indicators was brilliant. It's a shame more games didn't adopt such ideas.

I'd recommend watching the Sweeny with Ray Winston as it's much more like black Monday whereas lock stock and snatch are comedies still brilliant movies though but definitely watch the Sweeny. Love the video brings back childhood memories 😂

Well, The Getaway 3 was in Development for the PS3 and they released a short Teaser Trailer alongside some Screenshots of Picadilly Circus that looked very impressive for the time, but it was cancelled a couple years later after a tumultuous Development History and Team Soho was then directly integrated into Sony only working on Singstar and Eyetoy.
It was a damn shame since the Trailer showed the Canals in Amsterdam, hinting at multiple playable Locations but I guess it was overly ambitious for the Studio since all their other Titles had a fair share of technical issues and weren't received all that well. Gangs of London marked the low point, being rated in a range of 3/10 to 5/10.
Interestingly a TV-Show with the same Name came out in 2020 that is based on the Game and was received really well by critics and viewers with a second season releasing in Oct. 2022
I just remember playing the opening level over and over again because I was too stupid to figure out I needed to raise the brightness on my TV to see anything.
