Can't believe how under-rated this game was. I still believe this was easily THE best looking game of its time.. and the production values.. the soundtrack.. for a game to have all of this in around 2003 should be a remarkable achievement.. Definitely one of the hidden gems of the PS2.

This game was way ahead of its time. In every aspect. It's good to see that people appreciate it fully for what it was. A lot of people didn't get to finish it due to the high difficulty, especially in the later missions, but damn was it a solid story all the way around. Fantastic writing and characters, mixed with some mind blowing tech for when it came out. When developers were truly dedicated to the craft, instead of mulling over how they can weasel in micro-transactions.
This game was the first PS2 game i played, I had no Memory Card stick and i used to replay it everytime from the first mission, I just can't believe, it's been 12 years, best game ever.
Ahhh the sweet satisfaction a young 12 year old me felt when Hammond finally got to reveal Jolsons plot to the other gangs at the end. Beautifully scripted and fantastic graphics (for the time). This game was an absolute classic and is hugely under-rated.
I had a accident back in early 2008 which left me paralyzed from the chest. But whenever I play this game it reminds me of my early teen and walking days.
This is was like watching a full British movie from early 2000's. Voice acting: spot on, motion capture: spot on, British humour: Spot on. Love it. Wish the game had a new sequel or at least a remake

I remember shooting cops and comparing their license plates. Never repeated. 3 shoots on the motor made the car explode. 100 shoots everywhere else and didn't happen anything. Even nowadays games don't match the detail this game had.

Me and a buddy of mine would always say lines from this game on the school bus lol "I just want mah boy back" lol nobody ever knew wtf we were talking about.
They don't make games like this anymore. Class storyline, great gameplay and at the time, graphics were belta. The game lasted ages as well, got you gripped with the whole storyline, knew who was who and what was what. Even the Getaway 2 was good.

Just watched this from start to finish and it's the most entertaining "movie" I've watched in ages. I never got right to the end when I had this game so I never saw a lot of these scenes.
I’m the opposite. I thought this game was horrible. The gameplay was god-awful. Didn’t like Mark Hammond at all (I thought he was an awful protagonist). Guy’s always getting his ass kicked. I really liked Frank Carter, though. I also liked Charlie Jolson (he was probably the best bit about this game). I thought Black Monday was 10x better than this game. I thought the characters were better and I thought they were also more likeable. Eddie O’ Connor (the boxer) was phenomenal. I thought the gameplay on Black Monday was miles better. It wasn’t even a comparison for me. I thought the soundtrack on Black Monday was better. The thing that I also disliked about this game was the fact that there was no map to look at. Half the time you didn’t know where you were going. I thought Black Monday had a better story (I know loads of people will disagree with me on that, but that’s what I think). The only thing I thought this game did better than Black Monday was the graphics, that’s about it. I thought Black Monday was an upgrade from the first game in every other way.
This is one of the best games I have ever played. They even took photos of all the shops in London. It's incredible how underrated this game was. Even the Spanish Voices have never been matched nowadays. HD remaster is a must.

The two games were cancelled a year later. and then later on it was confirmed that it wasn't cancelled but the state the game was in wasn't specified.This was back in 2012-2013 I think don't really remember. But in case you didn't know the original makers of the getaway series merged with Team bondi who made L.A Noire, Team Bondi later went under and the team dispersed. We may never get the Getaway 3.

Holy shit. Around 7:58 I thought that clarinet bit sounded familiar. That's Shawn Lee's connection to this game, he also used it in the Halloween track for Bully. Man, I forgot how great this game was.
I remember playing this game when it first came out, and it was incredible, way ahead of it's time. It's not until I watch it back now that I realise there are so many references to Londons criminal underworld that I would not have understood back then. I.e "Charlie" as in Charlie Richardson, - the electrocution torture - as in the Richardson Gang (torture gang), Ronnie and Reggie get a mention, Harry the Hat - Jack the Hat McViti and other subtle references throughout. So many legends and ideologies in this, a lot of east end legends all thrown into one game. Charlie in this actually reminds me of Dave Courtney a little bit haha! Great vid, very nostalgic. Thanks :)

The artistry in the storyline, soundtrack, character development, the London environment (back then Google maps wasn’t a thing!), even the fight to gain all the copyrights! It was truly one in a million and unfortunately due to the way of the world now we will never get anything close to this ever again; the world just wouldn’t accept it. I’m just so thankful I got to play this at the right time in my life (the banned version too with the BT van haha). Masterpiece 🏆
Honestly I treat this like I’m watching a film. The voice acting and acting overall is absolutely brilliant! 10/10. Such a classic all time great game.

The only thing I didnt like about this game was there was no map and all you had for directions was the cars rear blinker, it would blink left or right when you had an upcoming turn...thats it. As a kid it took me so long to get to missions even though I paid attention to the blinker with a hawk eye and drove slowly. I thought this was one of the coolest games though.

When I was in school my dad bought me a ps2 second hand and this was the game I got with it. To this day one of the best games I have played and I’m 31. How I’d love for it to get a remake on PS5.

Even if they let him, part of the job is to make sure Mark would become an enemy to the Collins Gang. Had they let him burn it too easily without a body dropped, Charlie would know and that wouldnt end well

The only thing I didnt like about this game was there was no map and all you had for directions was the cars rear blinker, it would blink left or right when you had an upcoming turn...thats it. As a kid it took me so long to get to missions even though I paid attention to the blinker with a hawk eye and drove slowly. I thought this was one of the coolest games though.
This was one of my favorite game as a child.
