      I literally came to utube this evening to find out how long machine compounding would take... clearly a good number of hours to get the whole car done. Every video makes it seem like a 90 min - 2 hour job (which I'm guilty of), and I'm left wondering why I don't see much of a difference 😂

    Hi John, having watched a lot of your videos I took the plunge and got a DAS 6 Pro, Koch Chemi H8.02 and their finishing polish with carnuba wax. Took 9 hours today and all I can say is a big thank you for all of your fantastic advice. There were some deep scratches on my 2010 black Golf so had to use P2500 wet and dry on those. The end result is amazing, paintwork is like glass...again many thanks! Neil

    I made the mistake of going for a DA Polisher that cant take a 3" backing plate, so figured I would have to get another, but then seen videros of pros polishing the intricate areas (behind door handles etc) by hand, using a microfibre cloth or cut down had polishing pad.
    Arm people with the right information and they can do anything. And thats what you do with your videos!

    Used a das 6 pro for the first time the other day. Thanks to this channel I got good results. I think being gentle is a terrible idea, throw on too much compound and see what happens... Just play around, try loads of pads and see for yourself what will work and what won't... Try everything. After a few hours your working one handed and realising what can come out and what would need painting. You can literally buff out your mistakes so enjoy it.

  • @VeteranDetail

    Practice, Practice, Practice. It all comes with time. understanding polishing is like trying to “split the atom” . There are millions of videos online and every Detailer has there own little tricks or methods. Another great Video Jon. Message from an old guy to young guys, Just Practice as much as you can. The first time you do it you will think the paint looks impressive. After a few thousand cars you will know you can get the paint to look better.👍😬

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wise words mate, and perhaps dont rush but dont expect perfection.. lot of videos out there give the impression of perfection.. They are not real.. when you are up close and personal to your paintwork in the right light you will see all sorts of things.. but if you can get it looking good in strong light then it will look awesome outside in normal light..

    • @VeteranDetail
      @VeteranDetail 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we all think it looks brilliant in the shop under a very impressive lighting set up but the true test is always putting it in direct sunlight. There is no hiding anything in direct sun.

      thanks mate and best of luck. you will need to work a bit faster than I polish in this video and perhaps utilise pressure a bit more. try and work clean mate and once a week clean your equipment down dont let all the polishers get dirty and all the trigger sprayers etc.. try and be organised and clean. get your cleaning prep done fast and be a bit more agressive with the cleaning when the cars are bad. lots of cars wont get anywhere near perfect but just good % improvement. best of luck mate.

    4:54 i dont even have a polisher yet but the last video i watched suggested not hitting cracks immediately when spreading out your product. He said to spread out onto the pannel and then once you are spread hit the crack. That way you dont deposit a bunch of pure product in the crack.

    I liked this video better than the last on beginners guide to machine polishing. First car I machine polished was a 2014 Jag XF Sportbrake that had been valet washed by the dealer and left copious amounts of scratches from the brush they used. Your write in what you say it’s defo a whole day although I was 2 in my garage was well pleased with the results have a 2018 Sportbrake now and have just started the process on that car I’ll get it back to showroom standards eventually it just takes time lots of time

    1. I would ipa wipe down after using onr whenever it's used as a clay lube or standalone ratio 1:256.
    2. I would use straight moves taking off the residue left by a compound/polish to make sure i am not doing any new scratches.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) ONR does not benefit from being wiped with alcohol solvent. It doesnt need to be wiped with solvent. It just needs to be wiped and thats it really.
      2) I would not use straight lines. it doesnt remove product as effectivly. at least I would buff in light gentle circles, especially with open pile towels thats also the best way to do it. but you can buff straight if you want :) Im sure I have done :)

    • @ithorizon254
      @ithorizon254 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all im Your huge fan and as a person who watched almost all Your videos im amazed how good work You're doing.
      1. As a Optimum fan (im using hyper-twins) i dont see a point to use ipa after onr as it is meant to work this way -You simply impregnate pad with onr. However as a Yyvan Lacroix said onr leaves some sort of hydrophobic protection so it means there is "something" (polymers?) on a paint that can affect polishing stage.
      2. I said it only because a new person can make some scratches removing the residue (especially on soft japanese paints) maybye using bad microfibre cloth or dirty one. That kind of unexperienced person would not see the difference between scratches that wasn't cut and making a new ones.

      ive been working on corrting the 140 in the evenings. and like ive been doing a wing tonight and my final inspection pass I find 3 marks. and like seriously I had to just let them go and say thats it.. enough is enough or it starts getting ridiculous.. there are limits. perfection is not real. at least it isnt for me.
      and my god this paint on this m140 is ridiclous the m135 was good, nice and hard. but the m140 its concrete.

    Excelent vídeo! There is one thing that you should talk, many peaple what's perfection, 100% Swirls free, but forget to get that 100% they are taking off clearcoat. And If they dont have any ptg, is better to live with some defects and have clearcoat.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes absoluetly.. and on heavily swirled cars, you will end up chasing your tail doing things which are a bit silly if your try and chase perfection.. dunno theres no right or wrong but really you should use the first few sets to decide an approach to determine how many overall sets yo will be doing. and do those sets really well...

  • @reeb9016

    It seems to me that if you are polishing a daily driver, for me, I'm going to make it look real nice with a single stage like this and wouldn't even consider the time it would take to do another step. If I'm not getting up on it with a high dollar flashlight to see something the naked eye can't see, this if all I need.
    Great video!

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      totally agree daily driver... may like you might just wash, rapid decon, rapid polish... wax it up or something..

    Something I'd like to add from my experience doing my car is get a ceramic coating to seal in that nice fresh paint and protect it for longer before inflicting scratches on it. I feel I made a mistake not getting one and just putting a sealant and waxed on top. Also for decontamination it might make life easier before claybaring by using a spray on fallout removing when cleaning the car before machine polishing it. I used Bilt hamber auto wheels and that helped removed some of the fallout. Helped make it a little easier when claybaring.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chem decon is a good idea. yer skipping it isnt ideal I just think to polish a car in a day you gotta get a shifty on. And I think you prolly best off skipping it.. dont feel right to say that though :)
      ceramics.. Im not sure they are right for me.. get get to my paintwork :) dunno

    Subscribed from Down Under. Love your vids and they are very informative. Collect my Das6-Pro early next week. First time polisher. Thanks for all your hard & I'm sure time consuming work, making these vids. Very much appreciated & I would not tackle this, without your vids advising me every step of the way. Cheers.

    This pretty much made me feel better about polishing over lines in the car. I was terrified to go over edges/bodylines.

    Great video! I’m going to try my hand at polishing this weekend, my new bike has a small scuffed area from my backpack rubbing the fender and it’s driving me crazy

    It's not a dig, but most car detailing videos I see the car is already mint 🙈😂

    Great video Jon. Wish there was something like this at the beginning of 2006 when I picked up my first DA. I had to read pages of instructions on Detailingworld!

    Careful on the edges!!!! It's REALLY EASY to take an edge down to primer or even metal with a fast buffer and some compound.

    Thanks for the video. Your comment about videos not showing difficult panels rings true for my research. I've had problems polishing door panels maybe because the way I am holding the polisher. In fact I have had pads come apart, the velcro coming away from the pad.
    Any suggestions? Or a video?
