Hey Pan love your videos!!! I have a question. Do you recommend the waffle style that looks like hills for paint correction or flat pads like with honey combs or plain flat pads?? What kit do you recommend for least aggressive to aggressive correction. I’m using a rotary Mikita buffer. Please help this is something else I want to add to my skill set. Thank you in advanced
Pan, thanks for having Yvan on your channel for this topic. His methods work, and are simple. He’s an amazing teacher, and it’s obvious he loves what he does.
Ive worked at many different shops, under many different bosses, with many different detailers and i swear that everyone is gonna have a completely different way of doing things and theyre all gonna contradict what the next guy is gonna tell you. Today i feature products for the detail garage and im the lead detailer at VIP in So Cal. So anyways, i seen a video of DIY Detail giving a product review on Chemical Guys VSS diminishing abrasive combined with a MICROFIBER pad and all i could do was laugh as he was not impressed with the results 😂 I finally came to the conclusion that nobody is ever wrong, we will always fine tune our combinations and techniques while considering the methods of others
Pan, I’ve been quietly binging your videos for a little over a month now. I have to say, I am throughly impressed with not only your content, but your videography, audio knowledge, and your genuine love to share your passions. I was taking my all blacked out 2014 ram 1500 to the car wash for many years and the paint has suffered greatly. I recently purchased a lot of cheap and basic upgrades for my pressure washer and started to wash my truck myself. I’ve very quickly learned through your videos what to do, how to implement, and what to get to up my game and make my life easier and more efficient. I truly thank you for your dedication and heart to share for someone like myself that is just starting out. My truck is in need of some good polishing so I’ll be working my way into it using this video and the others you’ve done to get started.

Anytime I need the BLUF on car detailing, I accept no other advice than Pan. I am gearing up to do my first attempt at applying a ceramic coat; Avalonking, and I bought all there stuff. I just bought the Milwaukee M18 15mm polisher for paint correction. I have my work cut out for me for sure. 2020 F350 crew cab, long bed, dually 😮. The DIY products are my favorite line of products and their customer service and education are top class! When I first got back into detailing the process of understanding polishers and pads were overwhelming! You just have to start working different products to begin to understand what works together. I am the oddball who likes using the flex 3401 original version for cutting and the corded rotary for polishing. If I ever get a shop big enough for boats then I will buy a 21mm random orbital polisher! Thank you for the video Pan!
The customer service is shit. I received a bottle of gold standard polish and the sprayer was leaking. So more then a 1/4 of the bottle was gone before I got to even use it and I reached out and never even got a message back from them! So last time I’ll ever use diy detail!

Pan, I have been cleaning and detailing my cars for many years and I learned something new today, to help me improve my pad selection and my technique. Excellent as always and the simplest form of gratitude is to say..Thank you... that was direct and informative. Kudos to you and your team. all the best.
Hi pan, I've probably logged close to 100 hours watching your videos and including the ones that you open up about yourself. I bought my first car in 1980 and we used to use rain dance wax and then wash the car with dishwashing soap. I've always maintained my cars well and now you have brought out the OCD in me. Lol I'm waiting for my polisher to come in and bring it to a different level. Thank you for all your advice and you seem to be a genuine guy who really cares about people.

The term DA came from National Detroit's autobody finishing sander that Had the letters DA under the handle that was operated by a counter weight and and offset bearing mounted on that counterweight. Not Flex, which is a German company. If you are a DYI person or a recent detailer, stay with a dual Action polisher. Rotary machines take years to perfect your skill and you can burn your edges and high points in seconds . These product videos are great but they are made to sell product. Thank You
Yes, and I disagree with his explanation of DA vs “Random orbital’’. They’re both the same thing. The 3401 is also a DA but it is a forced rotation DA polisher as it’s using dual action.
@@redraider1496 Yes, in my opinion . They both use and oscillating action. National Detroit's DA sander and Hutchins DA sander both had an oscillating action that doubled the Grit value of the sand paper you were using to a finer finish, as the same principal is used on the new polishers. Hutchins Co. even made a DA Board sander. Back when, I owned one. Thank You
Gotta disagree. I started with a rotary, and have never had a problem. Just like he says, use common sense. Don’t let the polisher sit in one spot, check to see if the area is hot etc. Pretty simple. And IMO rotary cuts easier especially if your paint is trashed.
Phenomenal video!! I watch every single one is diy details videos and learn something new everytime. Thank you Pan for having Yvan and Nick on. Thank you Yvan and Nick for sharing your experience and products, truly amazing. Please keep it up!!!
Thank you for your time to show us how it's suppose to be done. I really want to have a go and do the car myself. Not sure which machine to buy! Orbital sander is probably the less expensive but any suggestions recommendations would be welcome. I know now that your product is available in Malta, so very happy about that.
In had a ceramic coating done that was suppose to be for a five year term. Honestly I was not happy and I feel the gloss is somehow lost. So I will be buying your product next. Would this be ok to apply ? Having had the ceramic done or would I need some prep work done ? Thank you once again

Pan I had the honor of meeting Yvan and Nick. I’ve been watching there TH-cam videos for a while. Yvan does everything he does with such a ease. I have watched some of your videos you guys have the best information when it comes to detailing cars. I’ve been dealing cars for years and have detailed farm equipment before and man how I wished we had the products that are out there today back then. Great video and I will keep watching.
Thank you. Please consider performing the correction and polishing to a side of a vehicle, perhaps in a future video. I'm certain we could all benefit from seeing your technique as it pertains to a side door for example.

Hello Lads, A great production from you all.👍 It was very interesting to listen to Yvan and Nick. I am completing readjusting my approach to paint correction on the basis of Yvan's comments. One aspect, I have always done and it is great to hear Yvan's comments, is to jewel with a rotary. The difference in gloss is substantial. I have used Menzern's P085rd as a jewelling polish for many years. I am very keen to try their 'Gold Standard.' I notice Clean your Car, here, in Britain have started stocking their products. Once again a great video. It would be great to go for a beer with you all and 'chew the fat' about detailing.👍👍👍
Pan you continue to out do yourself and this video was great! Good to see Nick and Yvan as always but an excellent way for anyone to get good results. I like how Yvan simplifies things, polishing can be intimidating I hope you are doing well!
The people in germany call the random orbital machine "Exzenter" like ex-center and i think thats on point. It's applicable in english and defines what it acually is, its off center. Btw nice video and rotary is still a good method to polish quick and with awesome results.
I may add if you have big scraches go wool pad with heavy cut and then fine cut with foam pad. And also a lot depends on quality of chemicals i can recomend koch chemie it worked for me other ones not so much. If you have an DA orbital sure even lower quality is ok. And also patience is very important if you do it by yourself cause if you rush it its not so great as it can be. Thanks Pan for teaching us things cause I did it alone and it worked miracles on my Audi. 🙏🙏🙏
Those polishers are still considered “dual-action” because yes, the backing plate still performs two actions. The gear throwing the plate, and the plate free spinning in motion-free spinning is still an action, regardless of stall or not.
I absolutely love videos like this! Thanks Pan, Nick, and Yvan! I learned a lot about pads and machines. Plus thank you for demonstrating. Y’all removed a lot of mystery! Keep up the great work!

Excellent Pan…..very informative channel….please keep them coming….so far your channel is the most comprehensive, diversified and detailed on the subject of car care…… good luck my friend
Pan, thank you for an excellent video. Very informative, Yvan and Nick certainly have simplified the polishing process. I tried using a palm sander to polish a car about 18 years ago but got away from it when I thought that you needed a dedicated dual action polisher. The dual action does a better job but isn't necessary in every scenario. Thanks again.

In other videos, I've watched Ivan compound a panel, leave the residue on the paint, and then polish, as he did here. Definitely more efficient, which is why I love watching Ivan's videos, but isn't there spent product and clear coat in that residue that you're driving into the paint during the polishing stage? Waiting to be enlightened by another pearl of pure logic by Ivan. Thanks for the great video, Pan!
Seems to be a fast way to get mediocre results. Which are fine for most people. Which is what he's offering. There's very clearly a bunch of haze in the 'dual step' section. I love nick tho, hawk pro detailing was always helpful. The carpet cleaning. The sanding and polishing advice. Obviously they're trying to sell their own brand now which is what it is. Take everything with a grain of salt. Best of luck to Yvan in his new endeavor
Enlightenment, thanks for the question. There’s very little residual clearcoat. In this case the polish is the same, just a change of pads. If you wish to wipe off between opperations, please feel free to do so.
Just a newby but did not even know about waffle pads. I also thought rotary machines were taboo because just the presence of one in the garage would cause the paint to burn. Thanks for explaining the difference and I did not even know a rotary machine could do a final polish.
Hi Patrick. I would still heavily recommend that beginners start with a dual action (random orbital) polisher, not a rotary. It can still be a bit dangerous if used incorrectly. Hi Pan - Great video as usual - Once I watched this session, I started following/watching Yvan and Nick - I find their techniques excellent - As a result, I ended up going with the Milwaukee 15mm Random Orbital polisher and the Lake Country System 4000 Pad Washer - Will drop future updates and report on how things go - Thanks for the content
Purple pad is the absolute perfect one step pad for any type of paint when used with hybrid compound. Of course you can do a second pass with soft foam pad and a dedicated polish for even nicer finish. When I attack a car I wash and decontaminate the paint. Then wetsan all the deep scratches. Grab my rotary and pass over the wet sanded areas with wool pad and old faithful m105 by meguires. Then hybrid compound the entire car with a DA 21mm long throw with purple wool pad followed by turtle wax hybrid polish and wax on a red foam pad using the same DA. But I have 28 years experience and thats the fastest way I can achieve the results I desire
Thanks Pam, this is a very useful overview for all experience levels , and I think more especially prudent for experienced polishers . I really love the what/which/when on machines, pads and the pad washer. I have never seen that and will introduce to my shop. So how regularly does one wash/rinse the pad.? The only question comment I may have is there wasn't a section on compound vs polish (what/why/when/which). I personally will make my team what your videos to draw from the knowledge pool and dispel suboptimal;l traits which are very easily transferred during the course of ones career. Please recert on the Polish vs Compound. Thanks and keep up the great work
Thank you for the video guys, great job! If you have a surface scratch that has not broken the clear-coat and you can't seem to remove it with a compound using the blue Rupes pad, would you say you need a better compound (Griots Correcting Cream) or pad or both? I cannot feel the scratch with my fingernail.
One or the other, also do you really want to completely remove the scratch? It may be deeper than it looks, and instead of having the area of the scratch as a potential failure point, now you have the surface area of the pad as a potential failure point. If you step back 2 feet, do you still see the scratch?
Lots of questions, very informative video that makes me want to learn how to master this. What is the 1 step, 2 step, 3…etc? Should I do the best possible job I can for the first polish and then just do a step 1 for maintenance polish? When should we use the different steps? Which one is the most profitable for a detailing business vs what would you use on your car?
I would highly recommend that you watch my popular paint correction tutorial for beginners here: th-cam.com/video/ustTEVGMOTI/w-d-xo.html All your questions should be answered. ;)

Hehe, yeah I'm the channel that does the most collabs with other channels. I like to offer my platform to other smaller channels to help them gain visibility and help them to grow. Awesome video as always Pan! Loved this one! I'm new to polishing and I haven't done much because I've been so overwhelmed by how many different polishers and pads there are. This was very helpful for me! I feel like I can get my new polisher out again now!
Very informative presentation, thank you! Can you please comment: After painting car using PPG top of the line clear coat 4 coats and waiting a year for it to all out gas and shrink, what grit should I ultimately wet sand to eliminate orange peel and then what pads, settings, compounds, and polish do you recommend? Your thoughts would be very greatly appreciated,
Is buying a machine polisher worth the investment if your only using one your personal vehicle for new car prep? Or is is something you’ll continuously be using? New and learning here! God Bless!
Thank you for your series of videos. They are a huge help as I start to do my first ever detailing. I purchased a battery powered dual action polisher and it came with multiple pads so I am doing my best to learn which are best. What I haven't seen discussed are the microfiber cloth "booties" that came with the machine. They are designed to go over the pad it appears, but are just standard microfiber cloth . I haven't seen any comments about this type of material. Would they just be for a final buffing? Cleaning glass? I'd sure like to know.
Don't use those. They won't be of any help. Use proper cutting and polishing pads when doing paint correction. They can be foam, wool or microfiber, but get pads from reputable brands. You're in luck, I just released a video on my favourite pads recommendations: th-cam.com/video/-ZgLETFgNyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ucC21KNHycNQ24bN Welcome to my channel. Hi guys! Awesome video! I noticed you mentioned gel coat and was wondering if there are any changes in your process for dealing with that versus the clear coat? Also, does your moist pad approach work with other polishes or only with your product? I work at an RV dealership and they have their own equipment/products that I am trying (slowly) to get them to reconsider. An uphill battle, but one worth fighting.
Definitely worth fighting for, mention to them higher profitability. Most polishes react well with a damp pad. Gelcoat and clearcoat react basically the same when it comes to polishing
I'm impressed by the damp pad - one spray on the orbital. How much area is that amount of polish able to cover? A full panel or more like a 2' x 2' area?
Great video pan Really appreciate this one and you where right It answered a few questions very well that i had asked you a few videos ago So thanks for the video and information Always helps
THOUOUGHLY ENJOYED this video, and it answered a lot of the questions I had. I know I'm late to the game here, but just in case anyone still monitors questions on this video, I have a couple. I have a 2011 Altima that has lived outside, uncovered, it's entire life. It hasn't been driven hard - only 46,000 miles - but the elements have taken a toll on its finish. There are a few tiny chips from rocks, etc., but my question has to do with the more serious problems. There are areas of what I would call "pitting" (I'm told from acid rain) and there are a couple of areas above the front windshield of a sort of powdery rust. It's not rust from damage like where the paint has chipped. If you rub your hand over these areas (about the size of a salad plate), most of the "rust" rubs of in a powdery form. I'm guessing that these are areas where the coating is gone, and the paint has worn thin. My questions . . . what can/should I do about the pitting, and will cutting, compound, polish, and wax take care of the rust spots. Thanks so much for your detailed, very helpful, wealth of knowledge.
Hi Jean. Unfortunately, it's hard to troubleshoot issues like yours virtually without seeing the car in person. But from what you are describing, it seems the clear coat has started to fail, and at that point, there's not paint correction to restore failed clear coat. A paint respray is necessary, as you can't bring back paint that isn't there anymore, or is beyond saving. Welcome to my channel. Fantastic presentation, guys. I feel like I could actually go out & do a really good job on polishing the paint on any of my vehicles now. Thank you! I do have a question though. We're picking up a new vehicle next week and after watching several of Pan's videos, I've decided to put on a graphene finish using Adam's Advanced Graphen Ceramic coating. I've elected not to use an iron remover after listening to all the warnings about keeping it off of plastic trim (Of which our new RAV4 has...) My plan is to wash it, then Claybar (Trying out Griots Fine Surface Prep Mitt instead of clay bar) and then using the Adams sealant. If the finish appears swirl free, do I really need to polish the paint before sealing it? I've ceramic coated both of our present vehicles using just the wash, claybar, and seal method, & they have come out looking great. They are both white metal flake however, & our new one is a dark gray metalic. I'm by no means a professional detailer, just a 70 year old grandpa who likes to have our vehicles look nice.
Congratulations on the new car. No fear to be had with a quality iron remover on any surface. If you’re satisfied with the appearance of your paint, and know it’s clean, no need to polish. Polishing will insure a clean surface, and increase gloss.

I’ve got a random orbit palm sander, and it’s got built in dust extraction. Does that matter one way or the other at all? Obviously not going to hook it up to the shop vac lol. But will the built in blower cause the polish to dry faster as I’m using it? Glad you guys brought it up though, I’ve always wondered if I could use it for polishing the car. EDIT: Never mind, yours does too… so that answers that!
i painted a car in my shed with acrylic paint , turned out ok i got it flat by wet sanding the clear from 1000 to 3000 kept it clean and went thru the grades , ive used cheap compound expensive top quality compound cheap pads expensive all kinds of pads , result is the same with 5 dollar polish to 75 dollar polish , its about paint quality and baking it properly i reckon .
Hey with the pad washer, do you wash the pad after every pass you do? So you will always have a clean damp pad for the entire correction? Thanks I’ve always just blown out the pad with the compressor. But this seems so much more efficient and the pad will have a longer life overall
@@diydetailofficial Sorry of i used the wrong Word. Ok, Is Just damp. I can get your products in Italy? Is there some distributor here or in other shops from Europe? I want to try your spray polish. Thanks, and i appreciate very much your work, your Channel, and your passion and style. Great !

Awesome! I really enjoyed watching it. I just started my own small detailing garage and I’m mostly working for free, dirt cheap, because there are so many things that I still don’t know or understand. Neither do I know how to price stuff. If I have to be truthful I hate and love it at the same time. I do 2 phases on the paint for 2-3 days for like 10-12 hours a shift with the taping and cleaning after it. But still when I see the result. Even if it’s not the best of quality I really like it. I still need a lot of newbie information so if you have videos about lighting and lamps I’ll kiss your feet. Because I’ve done an Audi Q5 black and have no idea if there are stilll any holograms or not because there is no sun and I tried 4 different lamps and can’t see anything 😢
I have a question… great video, your showing us how to “polish”, after done a section you take a damp towel to remove the polish and then a dry… what about the stage where you are waxing the vehicle, the final stage, does one use a damp towel as well to remove the residue and then a dry towel? Or is that simply a polishing step?
Perfect timing Pan, I have an Amazon cart with polishing pads I'm thinking of getting, now I know I'll be getting the correct ones!! BTW, I tossed all of the pads I had been using on my MINI Cooper. I just didn't think I'd be in a nice enough car again to even care. I never gave up my Griots Random Orbital Polishers, though. I have both a 3" and a 6", can't wait to see if I'm doing anything right!!
Which one of your pads and liquids should I buy as as first timer doing paint correction on an 87 Mercedes 560SL? I'm going to buy a 21mm DA from Harbor Freight
Great video guys! Question for you. I repaired a rust spot on my truck. Took it down to bare metal. bondo, primer, paint and then clear coat. I hand sanded with 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000, 5000 and then used a scratch remover polish. The problem I have is its still very "cloudy" looking. My guess is I did not sand long enough and the clear coat is still orange peel looking causing the cloudiness. Can I just start over now? Can I go back and resand it but due a better job of it? Thanks.
I have 2023 kia, it lives with snow so has a reasonable amount of swirls from brushes etc. I polished last year using just foam pads but it didn't remove the swirls What would you recommend for a pad to remove the swirls and a finishing pad, it's a DA polisher
In Yvans demo, after 1 pass with the foam pass, he immediately washes it before going to a second pass. Is that the recommended way of polishing? Do you have to wash it after every pass? Thank you!

So what pads, compound and methods will prep my new truck paint for a ceramic application. I have a new ram 3500 pickup with granite crystal metallic paint. Love all the videos and really appreciate how you all share your years of experience to help a DYI guy like myself improve and protect my investment. Thanks!
@PanTheOrganizer Thanks Pan. Love your videos! Quick question. So I do a high ph strip wash, then iron decon for lube with a clay mit, then polish and ipa wipe down before doing my ceramic coating?
Please provide a link if you have done a video differentiating what a polisher, cutting compound, sealant and wax are. Because i am having a hard time identifying and understanding which is which. Sorry, if its too dumb a question. Thank you for such an informative video. For all purposes, a waffle and a wool pad seems to be the ones to go for. 👍🏼

Awsome
Pan, thanks for having Yvan on your channel for this topic. His methods work, and are simple. He’s an amazing teacher, and it’s obvious he loves what he does.
Thank you, yes I do love what I do.
And a good friend too. Cheers!
I second this!
I love how simple Yvan makes everything, and I love how simple the diy gold standard system is.
Thank you

The DIY products are my favorite line of products and their customer service and education are top class! When I first got back into detailing the process of understanding polishers and pads were overwhelming! You just have to start working different products to begin to understand what works together. I am the oddball who likes using the flex 3401 original version for cutting and the corded rotary for polishing. If I ever get a shop big enough for boats then I will buy a 21mm random orbital polisher! Thank you for the video Pan!
Thank You Neil.
The customer service is shit. I received a bottle of gold standard polish and the sprayer was leaking. So more then a 1/4 of the bottle was gone before I got to even use it and I reached out and never even got a message back from them! So last time I’ll ever use diy detail!

Is a random orbital polisher the same as a dual action?
Yvan is the G.O.A.T. I love his relaxed no nonsense way of detailing.

In had a ceramic coating done that was suppose to be for a five year term.

Hello Lads,
A great production from you all.👍 It was very interesting to listen to Yvan and Nick.

Hi Pan thanks for having Ivan and Nick on today this was a great educational video

The people in germany call the random orbital machine "Exzenter" like ex-center and i think thats on point. It's applicable in english and defines what it acually is, its off center. Btw nice video and rotary is still a good method to polish quick and with awesome results.
Thanks for watching!
@Ferrox007 , in the beginning of random orbital machines, some called them eccentric drive.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Those polishers are still considered “dual-action” because yes, the backing plate still performs two actions. The gear throwing the plate, and the plate free spinning in motion-free spinning is still an action, regardless of stall or not.
Thank you Pan, Yvan and Nick. Very informative and makes it far easier to understand the different pads

Thanks! We’ll see what Yvan has to say.

Excellent!
Thanks for watching Jeff!

Hehe, yeah I'm the channel that does the most collabs with other channels. I like to offer my platform to other smaller channels to help them gain visibility and help them to grow. I treat others the way I would have wanted to be treated when I first started on TH-cam in April of 2016. Nobody was helping nobody back then.
So I promised myself to give back to the community and help others if my channel ever got big. So here I am, keeping my promise. :)
All I ask from the TH-camrs is that they give good tips and tricks to my viewers. They have to share their passion and knowledge, and be a positive influence in the detailing world. :)

2x2 is good, but depending on pad and machine, a full panel is possible.
Great video pan
Really appreciate this one and you where right

@@diydetailofficial Thank you. What do you consider to be a quality iron remover?

Correct, technique is more important than product.
Hey with the pad washer, do you wash the pad after every pass you do? So you will always have a clean damp pad for the entire correction? Thanks
I’ve always just blown out the pad with the compressor. But this seems so much more efficient and the pad will have a longer life overall
Correct, and your pads will last much longer.
Have the same question: so you work with a wet pad? Not dry as usual? Only with DIY polish spray or even with traditional polish?
@@domenicobizzarro839 I have worked with a damp pad for 20 years with all brands. The pad is only damp, not wet.

To answer your question, all the pads will work with your polisher, as long as you get the appropriate sized pads. For a 3 inch backing plate, get a 3 inch pad. For a 6" backing plate, a 6" pad. So on and so forth.

Amazing videos guys!

Hey Pan, can we get another video about the pads? And possibly a video about sanding the paint and then polishing?
Great video guys! Question for you. I repaired a rust spot on my truck. Took it down to bare metal. bondo, primer, paint and then clear coat. I hand sanded with 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000, 5000 and then used a scratch remover polish. The problem I have is its still very "cloudy" looking. My guess is I did not sand long enough and the clear coat is still orange peel looking causing the cloudiness. Can I just start over now? Can I go back and resand it but due a better job of it? Thanks.
After the sanding, try rubbing compound buffer step before final polishing.

What would you recommend for a pad to remove the swirls and a finishing pad, it's a DA polisher
In Yvans demo, after 1 pass with the foam pass, he immediately washes it before going to a second pass. Is that the recommended way of polishing? Do you have to wash it after every pass? Thank you!
