- In this video I compare some aftermarket scale options for the Benchmade full size Griptilian. There are the micarta scales made by @igorded on IG, and a link to his Facebook page from there, and the aluminum scales from Applied Weapons Technology: appliedweapons... .
Igor is awesome! He did carbon fiber scales and titanium clip for my mini griptilian. Great work! Love the way yours looks.
Hey, thanks for the heads up on these. I e-mailed Igorded and ordered some micarta scales for my mini grip. Shipping took a bit of extra time, but that wasn't his fault, all shipping esp. international has been slow for a while and he got the scales done and sent out very quickly. Extremely well made and tight tolerances but still went on my mini grip without too much of a fuss after taking it apart. Huge upgrade over the stock plastic.
Great comparison! Just ordered the same Igorded scales but with the orange G10 inlay. Been eyeing them for some time for one if my gripTilians and finally pulled the trigger after watching your video. Wish AWT still made the flamed Ti scales.

Ya dude awt on the bugout is perfection, but the ones the make for grips. I’m not so much of a fan of, igorded makes awesome scales , I’ve owned a dozen grips all of them had custom g10 mostly, Just recently more into micarta.
Wow, its been a while, glad you posting again. I'm digging those micarta scales, have you considered acid washing that blade?
Hey buddy. Yeah, sorry it’s been so long. Just got a lot of stuff going on right now, and it’s hard to get the time, or be in the headspace when I do. I’m hoping to some more coming soon. Definitely going to acid wash the blade
@@inthepocket7405 We all have to deal it, right now I'm dealing with some middle aged witched hunters which have become a total inconvenience, for a while I didn't want to go home after work. However, I purchased a S110V PM2 a few years back, liked it a lot but after a while do to the maintenance on the edge it's primary function was just to fidget with it. I have carried for the last two weeks, which never happens anymore even with a new acquisition and I'm totally digging it all over again. The ergos and ease of use are just outstanding. I'm going to use it until the edge is dull and I'm looking forward this time to sharpening it as my skills have markedly increased! So while I'm having to deal with the neighborhood I at least have my knives which give me a great deal of joy! Take it easy!
I had a pair of the AWT scales and theyre great quality, but i love the ergonomics of the full size griptilian, and for me, those scales completely ruin it.
The fully contoured Ti scales from flytanium are definitely my favorite. They bring the griptilian to a whole new level.
Yeah, that’s why I didn’t get them, and I was actually thinking about getting the flytanium ones. I ended going with the micarta ones though, and I’m happy with them.
Awt are cool but look better with the drop point blade but igor ones are just awesome

How does the acid etching with that stonewashed finish hold up to wear? Would you consider offering that as a service if I wanted to acid etch my full size 20cv grip?
It holds up pretty well man, but it does show some markings, and if something is abrasive enough to scratch the blade, it will reveal clean metal underneath. The more stonewash you have the more it will hide, since that is essentially what a stonewash is really.
I would totally offer the service, the only thing is my time right now. I’m not sure how much longer I will have a workshop, and if I will be able to have one wherever I’m going. I will have to see.

The guy from Russia makes some really nice scales and sends you the hardware with them, but the only scales he makes is Griptilian scales. AWT are also good, but I believe they only use aluminum for their scales. I’m not a 💯 % sure if AWT makes scales in any other materials. I prefer the ones from Russia and I like micarta better than aluminum and they just look better IMO.
AWT did make titanium scales also at one time. Didn’t see them on them site though.
Excellent scales from Igored I've seen these on eBay !! and the AWT scales make a knife so much better than the factory scales would be nice if they rounded the edges over very cool knives ✌️
Yeah, they are very nice. The awt scales are great, and they would be even that much better if they just put a bigger chamfer... hopefully they do eventually. Thanks man

AWT shows green and fde scales in stock as of just now. Went with the igorded scales myself though.

How do I find those Igored scales?
He has an Instagram page, but I think he mostly sells them on Etsy and eBay. I got mine on eBay.
What were the price?
The AWT run around $85 for smooth scales. Add $10 for texture milling patterns. the Igorded i just ordered on ebay were $85 and came to $108 w tax and shipping so about the same all in for either set.

Lol a million dollar company couldn't do a hollow grind with all their expensive equipment, yet I can do one with my angle grinder and cheap files in my back garden. Sad face sticker for Benchmade.
