    Griptilian in the house.
    Paramilitary 2- stranded on a Desert island.
    Don't want to be relying on thin springs to lock the blade.

      The griptilian is horrid. The handles feel like they were taken from a bin.

      The griptillian is the best and most premium pocket knife for edc use ever. It is even issued in the military. The griptillian is durable and can take a beating, and sure they are expensive, but that's normal for the best quality knife

    • @torresalxndr
      @torresalxndr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The compression lock on the Para is amazing, it jams between the blade and the blade stop, very very strong.

    • @torresalxndr
      @torresalxndr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@austinballard2 they need to do a better job of centering their blades and smooth out the axis lock when they are new. Their quality control isn't what it used to be. At the price they sell for, they should be as perfect as the Spydercos are. I own a few of each of those brands and the Spydercos are all (of the ones i own) better made and higher attention to detail.

    • @austinballard2
      @austinballard2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alex Torres I guess they all have their uses. I would personally take a griptillian whether it's going on a stroll through town or camping or anything outdoors. The Griptillian is like a fixed blade that can fit in your pockets.

    I think it's only fair to point out that Benchmade makes a Griptilian with slab-style G10 scales, a deep-carry pocket clip, and a hollow ground, sheepsfoot style blade in 20cv steel with a spydie hole.

    Here's the deal , the new Griptilian with a s30v steel blade is $110.00 on Amazon and a Paramilitary 2 with an s30v blade is $151.00 on Amazon , but now you have to buy a deep carry clip because the stock clip on the Para 2 sucks ,so that's an additional $25.00 - $35.00 which now brings the Para 2's price to around $176.00 + compared to the Grip's $110.00 . It's up to you . Me personally , as a collector , I own 2 Paramilitary 2's and 3 Griptilian's. My Grip's came pretty much perfect out of box , but my Para 2's , I went through 5 of them before I found the 2 good ones I own now and Yes , I bought them new through reputable dealers , but maybe that was just my bad luck ....✌ 😷 Stay Safe ...

      To be fair, realistic use of knives may require less than 50 deployments a day. But with people fidgeting, it could get up to the hundreds. If you intended to fidget, perhaps pre-purchase an omega spring for when it breaks.

  • @wellsbibo6175
    @wellsbibo6175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have both in upgraded versions and the PM2 is the clear winner, IMO. Materials aside, I trust the compression lock to withstand more abuse and last longer than the Axis lock with Benchmade's omega spring. Jimping is significantly better and more precisely machined on the PM2, reversible tip up/tip down pocket clip, full flat ground blade for better slicing and EDC tasks, thinner in the pocket, forward finger choil for detailed work, etc.
    That all being said, if the Manix 2 was in the mix, thatd be a tougher call. I personally think Spyderco's ball bearing lock is stronger than Benchmade's Axis lock. The Manix 2 is arguably the most ergonomic folder design on the market. Slight edge to the PM2 on weight and overall dimensions in the pocket, but it's damn close.

    I avoided Spyderco for ages, everything is inflated in the UK and even cheap models like the tenacious and resilience were going for £87 on Heinnie Haynes and similar prices everywhere else, I think you can all agree that £87 is an absurd price for an 8cr13 liner lock. They have them on Amazon UK now tho for their normal price and I got them about 4 months ago and love them, the resilience hasn’t left my pocket and I’m going to be getting the para 2 in s45 very soon. If you are in the market for a compression lock spyderco and like pm2/3 , make sure to check out the sage 5. I own all 3 and would pick the sage 5 all day. Much prefer the blade shape and grind. I think they now have a LW version of it to match up with the pm3 LW. But you can’t go wrong with a broken in spyderco compression lock. All that said, I am most likely to have a dragonfly in my pocket, cause I can carry without the clip, just dropped into a pocket. It cuts 99% of what I run into on a daily basis and doesn’t make somebody call the law if they see you opening a box with it.

    Two of my favorite knives. I really want the 551-1 Grip, with the 20v blade, and flow though G10 scales

    You don't have one but the sheepsfoot blade profile would have been the best comparison to the pm2.

    Have a benchmade 550 and pm2 I like the grip better personally. I’ve actually just sold the 550 to buy a 550-1

    People get bugouts and then swap the scales for something "more sturdy" are defeating the purpose of the bugout lol, benchmade makes a ton of knives similar to the bugout but with full liners and more sturdy scales so just buy one of those lol

    Hey Talon, pick up an older Grip with the sheepsfoot style blade and the spidey hole then change the scales and you'll have everything you want minus the steel upgrade. Good video bro

    You should review a Griptilian 550-1 vs Paramilitary 2. 550-1 Griptilian has the Spydie hole and with the axis lock is the ultimate flicking knife.

    just bought the mini grip. Haven't received it yet- I am replacing a 530 pardue lightweight axis with the spear point blade. My sister found it in a taxi at her college nearly 10 years ago and sadly I lost it an uber about a year back. Sad to have lost it but happy for whomever gets to have it next, the universe brought it to me and now has brought it to someone else who must need it more. For now, the mini griptilian should be perfect for my edc. I wear basketball shorts nearly every day so the lighter and thinner profiled knives are best for me. Thanks for the review.

    So modify or forge a Spyderco blade on a Benchmade body and you have the perfect knife. Maybe a colab with Alec Steele or Laura Kampf?

      Benchmade has a Griptilian that has flat slab of G10, deep carry clip, and thumb hole in the blade.

    For me...Spyderco PM2--CONS--the blade. Don't like the recassa/nub. Gettng a serrated edged version would be my way around that. Will buy a Para 3 and maybe a Dragon fly 2..both serrated. Benchmande blades are done right Like the 940 (base and the -1 CF/S90V) and the Griptilian (G10/S30V or CF/S90V)....maybe the Bugout -3 (CF/S90V) or -4 (Alu/K390)...wish they had more than the one colour choice for the scales.

    I'm a huge Benchmade fan & Griptilian fan but once i bought a PM2 I was a Spyderco Guy 100% and ended up owning 8 Spyderco's & 2 benchmades Adamas & Griptilian. My PM2's get way more pocket time over the Griptilian ,even though I do love the axis lock.

      How does your adamas compare to the pm2 and Grip?

    • @mr.delacruz559
      @mr.delacruz559 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulh6101 Great question! I owned the OG Full Sized Adamas in D2 and it is a tank of a knife! I’m not worried about the tip breaking off if I have to pry with it. It’s heavier & thicker than the PM2 & Grip and has a thicker blade stock. But Benchmade came out with a new version of the Adamas in the standard full size & smaller size . The ergonomics of the handle is way better now & the blade steel is now Cruwear which is fantastic! Truthfully I’ve been wanting to get the new version of the Adamas in both Full Size & Smaller sized version. Seems like it would be a great addition with my PM2’s. My OG one was great I just didn’t care for the D2 blade that I sharpened about 5 different times. Wasn’t bad just wasn’t impressed with their D2 steel. Hope this helps!
