    I remember when benchmade came out with the plain griptilian. I thought it was the first affordable (to me) knife that benchmade produced. I really like that version you have. Good review, thanks. That rat 1 looked pretty nice and I like the price

    I'm old enough to remember when the mini grip and the delica were the main EDC recommendations to newcomers. With the S30V steel, the grip and mini grip make an appealing alternative to Spyderco's compression lock folders that are now dominanting the market. "Budget" has a different meaning in Bechmade's lineup but this is actually a good value, especially after Spyderco's last price increase.

      Yeah I agree. They're still great options!

      Look at the prices now, I just ordered one from SMKW for $115 with a free dump tray

    Excellent review. I have both the drop point and sheep foot blade style. Not sure why Benchmade is discontinuing these knives. Keep up the great reviews.

      They'll just bring them out in different steels etc. They won't abandon this design.

    I have larger hands and it fits like a glove in all tasks it's been assigned. Cutting rope or plastic and even chiseling a bit of wood. Miles ahead of the knives ove used in the past. Fantastic piece of equipment when it comes to actual work

    the full size griptilian, for me is a much better option for my xl hands and long fingers than the 940, although i couldn't resist the 940, i don't carry it--feels too tiny--good for my desk drawer though and it's a beauty. the grip feels great in hand and can't be beat for comfort...

    I have a 555 coming, I also rock a bugout, bailout & 9400, I hope this is a good as the rest. Leatherman & BM are my main tools to carry, both have a epic warranty claims

    Bought and absolutely love my griptilian because of the American made aspect. Have the tan drop point version and it is excellent. Havent sharpened it once after good use and it still cuts. Not an EDC junkie so I use the one knife exclusively and it has held up like a true champion

    Still my favorite everyday down in south Louisiana carry knife. Sheepsfoot lets me do a super wide range of cuts from food to cuttin cordage.

    Great review ! I’m a big fan of the grip - I have an older 154cm version that I love, I just wish they would’ve kept the hollow grind on the 550 instead of the current saber grind !

    • @KnifeThoughts
      @KnifeThoughts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I recall the older ones having a good grind. Thanks for watching!

    Had a mini grip with that coating and after 3 years it was damn near gone, so when I bought the full size I went with plain steel as I’m gunna be cuttin food too

    sheepsfoot is actually slightly rounded, straight edge (like on your gec) is called wharncliffe.

    • @KnifeThoughts
      @KnifeThoughts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, traditionally it’s not. That’s how it’s often used now, and that’s fine, but it’s not the traditional definition. North Sheepfoot and Wharncliffe traditionally have straight edges, the difference is in the spine shape.

      okay, thanks for the info.
      not criticism but maybe you should use more modern terms when you review modern knives which are more often bought by younger people than gec, case, etc. (yes i know, there are also younger people that collect traditionals, i have a few gec's too but you get my point).
      i know not one single person that calls a wharnie a sheepsfoot and a sheepsfoot a modified sheepsfoot and i'm pretty active in all sorts of knife communities.
      again: i'm not saying it is wrong, but using old terms from 50 or 100 years ago might confuse people in 2022 ;-)

    How do you feel about the polymer handle compared to g10 knives you own? I love the g10 grips but my local store has a classic handle one in the sheepsfoot with s90v that's a really good deal

    I would love if benchmade stayed away from politics and made a true buget line.
