    Following your advice from the videos, our debut release is gaining incredible traction on Spotify with 1.7K monthly listeners organically! No ads, no paid playlists-just genuine growth. Our next song is set for release next month (3 months apart from the first single) and we're hopeful to maintain this momentum. Thanks a million, Jesse! Your guidance has been a game-changer for us.

    Jesse, would you say (for the sake of the Algorithm) that upon releasing a single, instead of just posting the songs link, you should first add the new track to your artist playlist with that song at the top, and then link the playlist as the new songs link (since itll play first), simultaneously strengthening the link with you and other artists?

    Hi Jesse. Ace vid as always. I have a question... My music project has been sampled by a very successful techno artist for 2 of his upcoming singles. He gets millions of plays for each song he releases. He would agree to me being tagged as a primary artist if I want but I am in a completely different genre to him. Will it ruin my algorithm if I did this? Or would the potential exposure be worth it? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

    First, this channel is pure gold. Thanks for putting such high quality information out there for free. It really helps musicians trying to get started.
    I have a question. I'm first starting to promote my work. I have a very modest following on spotify of about 1.5k listeners per month. I just finished my first full length album and the quality of the music there in outstrips the other content on my page by quite a bit. Should I hype my release for 30 days and pitch to the spotify curators, or just drop the album and advertise retroactively so, while advertising, people have good content to land on and find?

      I believe it's similar to creating a restaurant. You really want to focus on a specific few "dishes". in our case.. genre and sound, to be able to gain a following of fans that will at some point eat up anything you release. I think you have to treat the algorithm as an individual fan. If you're releasing multiple genres I believe it's confusing the algorithm and it wouldn't know where to put you even if some of the songs are considered good. Just my thoughts :)

    I've watched a lot of these videos from this channel the last few days, as I find it really interesting, even if I'm not really trying to make it as a musician so it doesn't apply necessarily, but still. My major criticism is I haven't heard "book tours and play shows constantly" mentioned whatsoever in any of the advice

    • @kingconspicuous
      @kingconspicuous 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Playing shows will do very little for you if you don’t already have an audience. The time cost and dollar cost that go into it are much better spent in many other avenues. This coming from a former touring musician

    • @sanban6766

      Because a lot of time you have to pay for perform

    • @escherpainting8622
      @escherpainting8622 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      But if the main bulk of what these videos discusses is community building, how are you going to join a music scene without actually playing in the clubs and bars where that scene is happening? If your target audience is predominantly gen z then okay maybe you need to be totally online and cater to that crowd, but a good show is still the best advertisement for your music. If you play a blistering set and somebody sees it up close and personal and enjoys it, then they're the sucker if they don't go and listen to the records.
      If we're talking about someone being a one person army with no intentions of being on a particular gigging scene then sure, maybe just booking random shows in venues with no real promotion is a bad move. But I don't think that it's difficult to do minimal research and find out who the bands in any given city are, within your genre, that are pulling numbers. Politely ask for a gig swap with them. It might cost more at the beginning than what you're going to make, but that's the same exact rule as with digital promotion.
      All this digital cheat code stuff is great for getting that online presence, but if you're not doing shows consistently, when you've got your big TikTok break -and you've got thousands of people who desperately want to come and see if you are as good live as you are in their AirPods - then you're likely to blow it, no? You cannot reasonably go from no stage experience to internet sensation and then be a master of live performance without putting the practice in. That's an impossibility. To go from making songs in your bedroom under the thin veil of internet anonymity and ambiguity to face-to-face with living, breathing, judging human beings? You need to be sharpening your live skills simultaneously. Even for gen z, it seems to me that the live performance is still the litmus test for musicians. @@kingconspicuous

    Wanted to ask what you thought of about posting a song every 2 weeks (obviously ensuring the music is quality regardless). My rationale is that given the right audience targeting it’ll help give the Spotify algorithm a lott of info on who to recommend me to. My main form of promotion is a particular playlist which has proven in the past to garner real listeners and has a strict submission policy where they reject any song that isn’t fitting very neatly into the niche (tame Impala esque psych rock). Wow who would’ve thunk talking music marketing is less infectious than a good song. You can’t make anything go viral and some things should just be educational. My track record of songs that I work on that do millions of streams speaks for itself

      @@Musformation also… “artists who grow naturally” what does that even mean? There’s no “one blue print” for an artist to succeed. Artists of all audience sizes run ads on social media, and successfully I might add. The figure is a lot better than those hoping for some viral, disposable tik tok moments. If you’re gonna put information like this out there, be honest.
