    Great info as always! Finding my community and learning how to interact with people on the internet has been a bit difficult - mostly because I haven't found any obvious specific sub genre or niche I fit into. I've asked friends/musicians/etc and they all basically hear a lot of similar influences but don't know any artist they think sounds like an obvious comparison. I've started my spreadsheet though which I love because I'm in Finance :), and I'm being a bit liberal with the types of smaller artists/communities that may be interested in my music. So far I've made a few rando connections which has definitely been rewarding and cool. It's all an experiment at this point and I'm just grateful for these type of videos. At worst they always motivate me to do more / keep trying so thank you

      @@Musformation It has probably been that spreadsheet and how it visually became a starting place for me to organize my thoughts on all of this with some direction because it can be massively overwhelming. At least as a 36 year old that was never really into social media, and just kind of coming back into this music world after a multi-year hiatus. But honestly man everything you've put out has been helpful in some way for me. I've watched a lot of your videos over the last year and gone from basically not even knowing how to operate my IG app on my phone to interacting on multiple social platforms and posting content with much more regularity. And I've gone from hating it all to finding value and enjoyment in it. So I'm at least at like Step 1 of where I need to be lol. Thanks again!

    In the old days, we played shows as openers making fans and connections at venues, eventually making a name locally with promoters and local indie labels and bands. Once we grew out of the local pond, we would expand to neighboring cities. Eventually, if you were good enough and didn't split up, you were likely going to open for a bigger name band and hopefully get noticed by a label.
    You can skip all of that now and just "be social" online. Whoo'da thunk it? Great video!

    Love it. Very clear and makes great sense. I have seen this working. Question: I am equal parts record producer and artist, BUT, my own music falls into at least 3 different genres. I don't think people who like my Sci-Fi Soundtrack stuff would also like my Grumpy Alternative Rock. So, is it best to split into different "artists"?

    Jesse, I watch your videos all the time & I am subscribed. Really appreciate you.
    Quick question, my band's instagram used to get 100-200 likes per post. We consistently post frequent reels that are fun / cool, they follow the exact concept that you have outlined. Suddenly our likes and story views have PLUMMETTED down to like 37!
    Should I just make a new Instagram and accept that this account is shadowbanned AF? I am a one-man band so I have nobody in my corner to turn to besides you.

    thanks for this drop Jesse. specific question: I'm in a band so collaborating is out. I know we can play with other local bands but there is relatively no scene in our city so that's also out... how do we go about targeting similar bands in cities we wanna play at? bc cold contacting them doesn't seem to be working very well

    • @Musformation
      @Musformation  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1. Split releases are still in and doing features gets done in bands all the time. 2. I find that a lot of time people who say the cold emailing doesn’t work is they tried 4 times and it didn’t work. When the numbers game is you keep up a relationship you comment and occasionally message and slowly build up

    If anything, it would just be cool to have a community. So, what I'll do is search, "people that have no fucking clue, making sort of heavy music." Then, once I find a sucker, I mean fellow musician, I will tell them, "my name is Sergey, but everyone calls me Serg. I'm looking for feller evil villains, I mean musicians, to help me steal a nuclear, I mean, make awesome as fuck music." Best advice though, is always obvious, and is usually easier said than done. Thanks man

    Thank you so much for your content! I have been watching all your videos and I am ready to apply them, but there is this lingering question. So basically I started out as a performer and I am transitioning fully to my artist self. However, I want to collaborate with incredible people and get songs I am excited about. I have collaborated before, but now its time to level up the game, and get game changer songs. To do that, I need to put myself out there and get incredible producers and songwriter to work with me, I want to make friends with the same ambition level as me. How do I do this, if I haven't release my songs yet? would you change anything in this strategy you have showed us?

    • @Musformation
      @Musformation  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A lot of people you can just pay even though you have no material. I would get started trying to make something with a good engineer / producer so you can show more prestigious people something that shows your capability.

    I make sort of varied styles of hip hop. From pop rap to lofi boom bap to r&b rap blends. It's been difficult finding an audience that enjoys sort of a broad melodic hiphop genre. Any tips for diverse sounding artist growth would be dope. Feels like each single I'm targeting a different subgenre.

Or should I put out a variety of stuff to see what sticks? Also, I need someone to mix/master for a reasonable price. I haven't found that connection yet. Do you have any contacts I could try?

      speaking of orientated is the clearest advice simply 20:22 - 20:52 ? Are you saying that if your account engages posts with those tags, and then you post with those tags, your engagement of others' will inherently raise the likelihood that your posts with those tags are then recommended to those who consume those tags?
      And if so, is this a demand side correlation thing where more people might just have clicked on you? Or is it a supply side thing where your content is pushed for its assumed legitimate connection? Or a reward thing, to "pay" you with algorithmic clout for your participation?
