Years late and I just finished the game. I'm happy that you played the game properly. In a dark quiet room with few people. I hate those who think the game wasn't scary and short when in fact they played in broad daylight and used walkthroughs
Lol right. I played in dark room while my cousin watched and this game honestly had some actual scary moments unlike most games do. It also made me feel like I was there and I didn’t even have a VR headset. Lol even when I killed one of the family members I was still scared they would get back up and come from behind.

Mia didnt sent the mail to Ethan by choice. It was Evie who made her send it by controlling her. They even point that out in the dream with Jack. It was just to lure him there.
SPOILERS BELOW: Actually there is a possible explanation for why Ethan's reaction to pain and injuries is tamer than you would expect. It is heavily implied that the second Ethan walked onto the Baker estate and started breathing the same air as Eveline, he was infected but not deranged, just like Zoe. The infection lessens pain and gives the host rapid healing abilities, hense why Zoe only had to staple his hand onto the stump on his arm in order to reattach it and he only needed to pour medicine onto severed body parts in the future. This is supported by the fact that he was able to see Eveline's hallucinations and spoke to Jack through their mind link.
shihoblade I'm talking about before that part. The main comment is saying the fungus infected him as soon as he entered, which is false. His reactions to injury and to his lost wife showing up were indifferent and way too tame for the context. After his hand is fixed, it can be argued he has the fungus in his system, but since no effects manifest and it isn't explored in the game, it isn't right to assume it's true.
Or how about the anxiety when you realized your not really aiming the gun as it shoots whatever you're looking at. Most horrible idea for aiming in VR. They need to figure out how to patch in move controllers and I'll be happy. Otherwise it's basically and $60 plastic case collecting dust. When games try and grab VR players by rushing a VR plug in, it ruins the whole experience.
It's definitely the most immersive and unsettling VR gaming experience I've had. I'd gladly pay for a Resident Evil VR experience on Oculus Quest 2...having the full freedom without cables, and the awesome lens&screeens combined with Resi would be awesome and horrific.

RE 7 is a good game, but it should not have been a mainline RE game in the series. RE 7 was made with VR as the main focus. This game would be better called as a spin-off series like RE VR.
Michael Huebner but it probably wouldn’t have gotten as much appreciation or attention if it wasn’t a mainline game, the mainline story in resident evil is the one that gets the more attention compared to other ones like the revelation games, because while those games are clearly good, they didn’t get as much attention as 5 and 6, having it be 7 to let everyone know that this is the direction RE is going now is honestly a good idea, I mean you could argue that just calling it biohazard and taking out the 7 may or may not have affected it’s popularity, having it be 7 gave it much more publicity

5 and 6 were great games, shit horror games though, if you could understand the controls in 6 and you just accept all the goofy bs in the stories, they can be great action horror games even with co-op, the amount of free content makes them both worth it.

You forgot to mention that senerios can play out differently throughout the game from each other playthrough. For example, a lot of people got chased around the garage by Jack, but I actually got in the car and got to crash into Jack. Things like that make each playthrough just a little bit more different, and thats great in my book.
The garage fight with Jack, hmmm. Well honestly the only way you can get into the car without him pulling you out and kicking your ass is fuck him up a bit then run to the car and put the keys in as fast as you fucking can or else he'll rip you out lol.

you gripe about the doors Joe but being able to slam the door in your enemies face was one of the staples of the resident evil originals. if you made it to the door what was chasing you couldn't follow. that's what made the Nemesis so friggin scary. he was the first to break that rule.
that was completely different since there was a load screen and each room was a different area, when it's a semi open world with no load areas and you can literally just peek through the door and shoot the guy then close the door and he can't do anything about it just turns into a joke.
Actually Joe, Mia's video message was sent 3 years ago. If you check Ethan's inventory at the start of the game, you'll see that the email is a totally different one - sent 3 years later (when she was controlled by Eveline)

well I mean Ethan is forgettable as a character. he is wooden and lacks empathy. the game has only the story, no mercenaries, raid or other spin offs that aren't tied to dlc. content feels cut off for season pass and dlc cash ins. final boss was rushed, sloppy and heavily scripted. enemy variety is lacking (three mold types and bugs). VR is nausea inducing and makes graphics really low resolution. graphics are low res to accommodate VR and PC players already cracked re7 with denuvo. I mean it isn't a bad game at all. 7/10 is a good score that shows it has promise but not enough to convince me it is like the originals.

It makes sense that Ethan's characterisation is weaker than that of Leon, Chris, Ada or whatever. He's a first person character, a plot device for us gamers to immerse ourselves into the world with. I'm not saying first person protagonists can't have a strong personality, but only when that is more important than the environment, i.e Duke Nukem. Case in point, the hell do we know about Gordon Freeman, or Chell?
Plus Ethan is supposed to be an every day person. Characters like Chris and Leon have been through this kind of thing over and over and are used to it. Making the main character someone new who has no experience in this makes it more frightening. If the protagonist doesn't get scared how is the player supposed to?

I just finished RE2 Remake, RE3 Remake, then got this… I’ve never been so stressed, anxious, and fricking LOST. It twists and turns, it doesn’t just give you ways out, you feel absolute claustrophobia. “What do I do, what do I DO?!” I like that in games because it makes you plan, strategize, and it’s different from the past games!

It's weird, a lot of people call him a bad protagonist and wooden... I just see it as not being the typical whiney-bitch main character. He's somebody with more fortitude than most protagonists while not being quite as ridiculous and cheesey as action heroes - somebody that is well fit to be a vessel for and to represent the player.
To me, Ethan is kinda like jack from bioshock. although jack and Ethan are essentially player vessels, they have enough emotion and situational response to seem human (first time plasmids, screaming in pain, etc.)
I know that people always talk about RE titles being replayable, but idgi unless you're a speed runner type. I think for me 90% of the fun is the horror, puzzles, and resource management. I have no desire to get infinite ammo guns because that destroys the fun. I also have no desire to replay when I know where all the items/enemies are and what all the puzzle solutions are. I'll give it two playthroughs if the playthoughs are different and the game is exceptionally good, like I did with the RE2 remake, but for every other RE it's been one and done for me.
@@notstarboard madhouse mode actually changes positions of enemies and everything. It was incredible and made the safe rooms feel like the most comforting thing in history.
Clearly the star of this show is gotta be Other Joe. With his plethora of expressions in the acting of the characters really brings out the life of the characters Other Joe portrays. Without a shadow of a doubt, a solid 10/10 performance by you guys. Excellent job!

I think the lack of reactions from Ethan is so that the Player can react to them instead, to immerse them a bit more. Like would you rather have a horror game where the person you play as is ALWAYS SCREAMING WHENEVER SOMETHING HAPPENS, or a quiet one that just, lets you react on your own.
Food with gluten I think it's not just a matter of being emotional versus being reserved. The thing is that it gets repetitive. In a horror game you are exposed to hours upon hours of messed-up shit, is your character supposed to scream at every corpse he comes across? Another thing people should consider is that people become desensitized after a while. Once the adrenaline and survival instinct kicks in, and you've gotten used to the sight of blood and gore, you will become completely numb and do what you have to do. If I found a corpse on my kitchen table I would freak out big time, but there are people out there who do autopsies every day and give zero fucks. It's sad but you get used to seeing terrible things after a while.

At the same time though, if you're watching a sitcom, I don't like to be told when I should laugh. I think it comes off as desperate. (Though you can clearly tell studio audience laughter vs. can laughter. Yes I'm looking at you Disney Channel!).
Mallory Echelmeyer A movie is completely different though, it is much shorter than the average horror game, and the plot sometimes covers weeks or months while in a game, you usually accompany the protagonist for a sequence of a few hours at best. You're also the one in control in a video game, and since you will most likely come across most of the really disturbing stuff during gameplay sections, it would be really odd for your character to freak out at everything instead of doing what you tell them to. I like what they did in The Evil Within for example, the main character is also pretty stoic but he will occasionally flinch and look around when something happens, which doesn't ruin the immersion and the sense of being in control, but is still a nice touch.
"SPOLIERS" ABOUT WHY SHE SENT THE MESSAGE. The reason she sent the message was that she was under the influence of the little "girl", and the little girl wanted a "family" so she made Mia send the message in a way that would make sure Ethan would show up looking for her. That is why when you first find her she doesn't understand why your there and questions whether she sent a message or not, she can't remember because she was under the influence when she sent it.
I think what he means is why does Mia use phrases like "Leave me" and "You shouldn't have come here" when fighting you under the influence of Eveline. It's like Eveline wanted you to come to her but when you did she wants you to leave. Doesn't make much sense.
Dock Lee "spoilers" oh its because mia is still able to somewhat resist evelyns control sometimes as she hasn't progressed as badly as the other bakers, and that is why her words contradict her actions sometimes while under the influence. its also why at the end of the game if u dont give mia the cure then she is only able to resist evelyn for a little bit but ultimately succumbs. but if u do give her the cure she is able to resist evelyn, while zoie who progressed farther than mia isnt able to resist at all and is taken over in an instant even if u give her the cure.

Actually there is a possible explanation for why Ethan's reaction to pain and injuries is tamer than you would expect. It is heavily implied that the second Ethan walked onto the Baker estate and started breathing the same air as Eveline, he was infected but not deranged, just like Zoe. The infection lessens pain and gives the host rapid healing abilities, hense why Zoe only had to staple his hand onto the stump on his arm in order to reattach it and he only needed to pour medicine onto severed body parts in the future. This is supported by the fact that he was able to see Eveline's hallucinations and spoke to Jack through their mind link.

shihoblade I'm talking about before that part. The main comment is saying the fungus infected him as soon as he entered, which is false. His reactions to injury and to his lost wife showing up were indifferent and way too tame for the context. After his hand is fixed, it can be argued he has the fungus in his system, but since no effects manifest and it isn't explored in the game, it isn't right to assume it's true.

Or how about the anxiety when you realized your not really aiming the gun as it shoots whatever you're looking at. Most horrible idea for aiming in VR. They need to figure out how to patch in move controllers and I'll be happy. Otherwise it's basically and $60 plastic case collecting dust. When games try and grab VR players by rushing a VR plug in, it ruins the whole experience.
It's definitely the most immersive and unsettling VR gaming experience I've had. I'd gladly pay for a Resident Evil VR experience on Oculus Quest 2...having the full freedom without cables, and the awesome lens&screeens combined with Resi would be awesome and horrific.

RE 7 is a good game, but it should not have been a mainline RE game in the series. RE 7 was made with VR as the main focus. This game would be better called as a spin-off series like RE VR.
Michael Huebner but it probably wouldn’t have gotten as much appreciation or attention if it wasn’t a mainline game, the mainline story in resident evil is the one that gets the more attention compared to other ones like the revelation games, because while those games are clearly good, they didn’t get as much attention as 5 and 6, having it be 7 to let everyone know that this is the direction RE is going now is honestly a good idea, I mean you could argue that just calling it biohazard and taking out the 7 may or may not have affected it’s popularity, having it be 7 gave it much more publicity

You forgot to mention that senerios can play out differently throughout the game from each other playthrough. For example, a lot of people got chased around the garage by Jack, but I actually got in the car and got to crash into Jack. Things like that make each playthrough just a little bit more different, and thats great in my book.

enemy variety is lacking (three mold types and bugs).
VR is nausea inducing and makes graphics really low resolution.
graphics are low res to accommodate VR and PC players already cracked re7 with denuvo.
I mean it isn't a bad game at all. 7/10 is a good score that shows it has promise but not enough to convince me it is like the originals.

It makes sense that Ethan's characterisation is weaker than that of Leon, Chris, Ada or whatever. He's a first person character, a plot device for us gamers to immerse ourselves into the world with. I'm not saying first person protagonists can't have a strong personality, but only when that is more important than the environment, i.e Duke Nukem. Case in point, the hell do we know about Gordon Freeman, or Chell?
Plus Ethan is supposed to be an every day person. Characters like Chris and Leon have been through this kind of thing over and over and are used to it. Making the main character someone new who has no experience in this makes it more frightening. If the protagonist doesn't get scared how is the player supposed to?

It's weird, a lot of people call him a bad protagonist and wooden... I just see it as not being the typical whiney-bitch main character. He's somebody with more fortitude than most protagonists while not being quite as ridiculous and cheesey as action heroes - somebody that is well fit to be a vessel for and to represent the player.
To me, Ethan is kinda like jack from bioshock. although jack and Ethan are essentially player vessels, they have enough emotion and situational response to seem human (first time plasmids, screaming in pain, etc.)

I know that people always talk about RE titles being replayable, but idgi unless you're a speed runner type. I think for me 90% of the fun is the horror, puzzles, and resource management. I have no desire to get infinite ammo guns because that destroys the fun. I also have no desire to replay when I know where all the items/enemies are and what all the puzzle solutions are. I'll give it two playthroughs if the playthoughs are different and the game is exceptionally good, like I did with the RE2 remake, but for every other RE it's been one and done for me.

Clearly the star of this show is gotta be Other Joe. With his plethora of expressions in the acting of the characters really brings out the life of the characters Other Joe portrays. Without a shadow of a doubt, a solid 10/10 performance by you guys. Excellent job!

The character models in Res7 are fuckin amazing. Also, screw all those fanboys that are hating on this game just because they didn't put out the same garbage again, like they have for the past decade. I grew up playing the first Resident Evil back in 96 and Ive always been a fan of the series. I say this is a good transition. If the series kept putting out shit then it might've just ended. It was getting horrible.
Also, free dlc? Thats fuckin unheard of these days. Only other game that I can think of that has given free dlc is the witcher 3.

Like would you rather have a horror game where the person you play as is ALWAYS SCREAMING WHENEVER SOMETHING HAPPENS, or a quiet one that just, lets you react on your own.

Food with gluten I think it's not just a matter of being emotional versus being reserved. The thing is that it gets repetitive. In a horror game you are exposed to hours upon hours of messed-up shit, is your character supposed to scream at every corpse he comes across? Another thing people should consider is that people become desensitized after a while. Once the adrenaline and survival instinct kicks in, and you've gotten used to the sight of blood and gore, you will become completely numb and do what you have to do. If I found a corpse on my kitchen table I would freak out big time, but there are people out there who do autopsies every day and give zero fucks. It's sad but you get used to seeing terrible things after a while.
Wow, I never thought about that. If I were watching a movie, I'd definitely want the lead actor to be freaking out at all this. At the same time though, if you're watching a sitcom, I don't like to be told when I should laugh. I think it comes off as desperate. (Though you can clearly tell studio audience laughter vs. can laughter. Yes I'm looking at you Disney Channel!).
Mallory Echelmeyer A movie is completely different though, it is much shorter than the average horror game, and the plot sometimes covers weeks or months while in a game, you usually accompany the protagonist for a sequence of a few hours at best. You're also the one in control in a video game, and since you will most likely come across most of the really disturbing stuff during gameplay sections, it would be really odd for your character to freak out at everything instead of doing what you tell them to. I like what they did in The Evil Within for example, the main character is also pretty stoic but he will occasionally flinch and look around when something happens, which doesn't ruin the immersion and the sense of being in control, but is still a nice touch.
Playing this game in VR was the greatest gaming experience I've ever had! The terror was legit 🙀

The reason she sent the message was that she was under the influence of the little "girl", and the little girl wanted a "family" so she made Mia send the message in a way that would make sure Ethan would show up looking for her. That is why when you first find her she doesn't understand why your there and questions whether she sent a message or not, she can't remember because she was under the influence when she sent it.

oh its because mia is still able to somewhat resist evelyns control sometimes as she hasn't progressed as badly as the other bakers, and that is why her words contradict her actions sometimes while under the influence.
its also why at the end of the game if u dont give mia the cure then she is only able to resist evelyn for a little bit but ultimately succumbs. but if u do give her the cure she is able to resist evelyn, while zoie who progressed farther than mia isnt able to resist at all and is taken over in an instant even if u give her the cure.
