I think the Chris section was there to make you feel less stressed after the game, it was meant to be a cathartic experience compared to Ethan's struggle the rest of the game.
I agree! Its releasing to screw up those lycans with almos unlimited ammo and badassery, I looooved it. The heisenberg boss batle was amazing as well the haptic feedback on the ps5 was pretty neat.
Lol cathartic, that was the most frustrating segment in the game to me. Chris' guns suck so bad compared to Ethan's (clip size, reload speed, recoil, etc) and Ethan's health and speed upgrades are taken away, too. Plus, the endless swarms while having to not get hit to use that laser thing. Being Chris is more annoying than it is relaxing.

@@Robert-xk9noTLDR - I'm also a big pussy but I wont let the fact that horror games are scary for me impact other peoples fun. That's like saying dark souls is too hard and they should make it easier so everyone can play it, which ruins the fun of players who enjoy it. I have friends who absolutely adore horror movies, I dont. And I just dont watch them, I dont demand they change what movie they watch just so I can watch it too. I'm also a big pussy. So I just dont play horror games. I think it's bad that they toned down the scare factor just because of people like us, because it hurts so many people who actually enjoy it. If you want to be able to play these kinds of games, maybe you just have to deal with being scared and stuff. For me it's not because I dont like being scared, it's because I have a heart condition so when a jump scare inevitably happens, regardless if I know it will happen or not, it takes me a lot longer than healthy people to recovery from the "jump" and I just hate how it feels.
I actually enjoyed the Chris bit, mainly because that's how I want Chris to now be as a 20 odd year veteran of fighting bioweapons, he should be well trained, well equipped and well prepared. When playing as Chris its more like "I'm not locked in here with you, you monsters are locked I here with me" I enjoyed the good mix as the unprepared Ethan and the veteran Chris. Felt nicely balanced.
Same i thought the Chris part was to show how well prepared Chris and his team was to take on this threat, and that if Ethan hadn't rushed headlong in, Chris would have likely finished everything anyway. I dont think it was a callback to trying to make the game more actiony I think its just a reference to how much of a veteran Chris and his Team is at fighting Bioweapons now.
YES! Thank you! I can't believe Joe didn't understand that. Joe wants to see a return of all the classic RE characters since the beginning, but the problem with that is they are all skilled and highly-experienced veterans of facing bioweapons and anything of that nature. You can have them return, but Capcom is going to have to try really hard to put them in a survival horror situation that makes sense, given their experienced backgrounds. The reason it worked so well with Ethan in VII is because he was just a normal person looking for his missing wife. He had no idea what he was stepping into when he went looking for her. You had someone who knew nothing, and started with nothing. Throughout the game you were able to slowly build an arsenal to just scrape by what was thrown at you. In Village, Ethan started with nothing, but has some experience this time around. I think they did a good job in Village in showing just how much he's learned from his past experiences. I would love to see all the classic characters make a return, but they're going to have to put those character's years of experience into consideration to make a believable situation where they struggle to survive.
@KlazeGamez Exactly. People don't seem to understand these characters have been through a lot to the point where they're pretty much skilled, and equipped enough, to deal with anything they come across. Outside of Isaac's perspective, I feel by that time players had dealt with enough Necromorphs to where they weren't as scary as before. In order for veteran characters like these to make a return into a true survival horror title they need to be put in a situation where their skills/experience can only get them so far. I feel that's harder to create than starting fresh with a new character, like Ethan.
like ya, the hell is he talking about? though to my knowledge the vamps in d castle are also able to have head pops, tho im unsure im just pretty sure?
Yeah not gonna lie Lycans were a pain. Easily in my mind the scariest enemy especially in groups. That said...Shotgun does wonders to them...and you even get a magnum designed for killing them so it's not like Ethan isn't prepared. Not to mention how herbs and crafting items don't take up Inventory and I say it is more than fair.
I don't believe for a second the "too scary" complaint was from actual players, but internal at Capcom wanting to market it to as many as people as possible for money and fearing the scare factor would drive less sales.
I wish developers would trust their instincts and just roll with their creativity rather than putting cash making decisions at the top of their design list
Bit of a correction and explanation for 27:26 (Spoilers). Village's story isn't the origin of all the events of Resident Evil and the Megamycete isn't the start of all the issues in the RE universe. Basically Miranda discovered the Megamycete and began studying it to revive her dead daughter. Throughout her years of study she took on a student and began teaching him about biochemistry and other things. The student was Oswell Spencer, one of the founders of Umbrella. He had the dream of forcing humanity into the next stages of evolution and creating the perfect life forms. His experiments eventually led to the creations of Albert and Alex Wesker, who he believed would be the first of this perfect race. He left Miranda and began conducting his own research. His studies eventually led him to West Africa where they discovered the plant "Stairway of the Sun" (which we saw in RE 5) which became the basis for the T-Virus. The DNA of the plant wouldn't survive outside of Africa so one of Umbrella's scientists James Marcus thought of combining the DNA of the plant with Leeches to allow it to survive (which we saw in RE 0). This is why the T-Virus zombies are stupid and only want to eat, they have the brain of a leech. Basically Miranda's research into the Mold and Cadou are what inspired Spencer to create the original virus, however the Megamycete mold didn't actually create the other viruses.
@@bhuwin6186 lets be honest. Mh rise is much better than this "experience" called re8. Whether finished or not. (Just because the pacing is on point doesnt mean the game wasnt missing anything, it just means they spread out the same amount of key points as 7 but in an orderly albeit adhd pattern)

Actually liked the Chris section. Chris and Hound Wolf are experienced B.O.W. killing professionals and it was cool to be a part of their mission. Even though Ethan had some experience, training, and, mold enhancement, he didn't reach the level of skill those characters attained. It was a nice contrast to switch over to their perspective for a bit.

I just got around to playing this game and I have to say I really enjoyed it, but I think that comes more from being a fan of Resident Evil 4, which Joe never brings up here. This game is clearly modeled after it, and I think it does a fantastic job of mixing the key finding and large group fight sections of RE4 while also showing a good understanding of what made RE7 good. Not having VR was a bummer, but the game itself feels more like resident evil than ever. The fish monster, castle, bits of horror sections, it feels to me like the spiritual successor to 4 in all honesty and I couldn't be more here for it. I think if they go too deep into the action like they do in 6 and completely remove the horror it could be a problem, but i feel this game did a good job setting the ground work for more to come revolving around our favorite characters.
I also think his complaint about the so called "movie trope" of characters not saying what they need to say to Ethan is a bit like he missed the point later on. Chris later says that they were on the way to a secure location to tell Ethan what was going on but they got attacked and that couldn't happen, and every other time Chris gets interrupted by a fish monster or other.
I literally just beat the game like an hour ago and I totally agree. I was really surprised how angry he got at the game at times. And the fact that he didn’t use RE4 as a comparison felt strange. Resident Evil, to me, has always had a very unique blend of horror, action and comedy. And this game nailed that tone. Playing this game was like how I remember feeling the first time I played RE4 as a kid. The giant baby chasing you, trying to sneak past the massive werewolf, the wacky ass tank section! So many cool memories I’ll have from this game, and I’m already pumped to replay it
Also I love Ethan, he’s so adorably dumb at times. There were so many points where I’ll piece things together and then Ethan will just ask “what the fuck is going on?” And I just wanna pay him on the head and say “don’t worry about it Ethan, just keep shooting sweetheart” Heisenberg tries teaming up with Ethan to take down a common threat Ethan: “so anyway I started blasting” Never change Ethan, never change

Reason why you should never listen to fans, and do what you want to do...RE6 sold like 10 million copies, back in 2012, it was what people wanted, while REmake 2 didnt sold nearly as good, and REmake 3 flopped... Fans dont know what they want, I remember all the complains I hear back when RE7 was announced, and people loved it when they played it. Capcom needs to do what they feel they should be doing, not listening to fan feedback.
@@Jose-se9pu Which I feel like they've actually been doing. But I would like to point out that RE2 remake and RE3 not selling well, doesn't equal if the games flopped or not. Maybe financially, but numbers sold doesn't equal how good or not a game is. PLENTY of people LOVED RE2 remake, and also plenty still really enjoyed RE3, even if it was a bit rushed, it was still not a bad game by any means.
@@Jose-se9pu Having said that though, I would like to add that I have always been in enjoying a game, movie, TV show for what it is. Not what I want it to be. And yeah, you can dislike it then, of course, tastes differ after all. Asking to tone down a game that is literally called "Resident Evil" is liking asking to tone down a drag car for accelerating too fast...... Resident Evil 20 = You throw pillows at mildly rude monsters that dont attack you
Some players: game too scary Capcom: ok, we'll make the next game not too scary. This is why you don't listen to every feedback. Resident Evil is supposed to be a horror game. You don't want to be scared, go play something else.
Yeah honestly I'm a huge scaredy cat so could be I will never play RE: 7 and I'm fine with that. Maybe it's just not a game for me but that doesn't mean I didn't think it looked like a good game. I really liked the atmosphere actually even though I was at the edge of my seat just watching someone else play it. I have watched few streams of it and that was also enough for me but that doesn't mean they should cater to me being a scaredy cat, but rather to the people who really enjoyed the game for the RE like things it did well. You can't make everyone happy and this shows why. Now the people who wanted a scarier game are unhappy.
You're kinda right but you're kinda wrong as well. Since it's inception, Resident Evil was more of an Action Horror. Yes, the horror part is important but the action needs it's share of quality sequences. Yes it's supposed to be a horror game, but not purely a horror game. I feel like this game has more in the way of storytelling than RE:7. Don't get me wrong, I like the new RE games. But it kinda lost it's identity when it turned into a first person horror over action game.
I feel like the Chris Redfield part purposefully felt like COD. Like after having to deal with the enemies as Ethan, you now play as this elite soldier with better weapons to just completely destroy the enemies after all the trouble they gave you before.
@@Bloodhurl67 No, it isn't, and it actually is a great rebutal to Joe's argument to "bring old characters back" because old characters would be exactly like Chris here. They would mow through armies of undead/molded/parasites. Chris' section is a great proof of concept as to why a character like Ethan was needed to reboot the series. Jill, Chris, Claire and Leon would just mow through stuff, exactly like they did in 6. And it's imo a good idea to have that as one of the last sections of the game because 1.- it gives relief to the player 2.- it reminds you how awesome Chris is at this point 3.- it shows how extreme the situation is.
@@throwacnt7603 this is my take too. it’s important to show us the megamycite on the micro scale in the baker incident and on a macro scale in village. chris’s storyline helped us get a true sense of the threat this poses.

At long last, what we have all been waiting for... Edit: Seeing Joe without spiked hair, after watching for 10 years with only spiked hair is surreal af
I don't think you could do anything with Chris, Jill, Claire, or Leon anymore without full reboot because canonically they are already so used to things and part of organizations meant to deal with the threat that you would probably always only get an action type game. Only way survival horror type setting would work is with a cast of characters who have no exposure to the infection or military esq backgrounds.
Not even just that. RE is so iconic and familiar now that it lost pretty much all of its atmosphere. Even if they add something new, we already know its gonna be some bioweapon and some umbrella like corporation responsible
I personally enjoyed it. Bought it the day it came out and beat it within the week. I might try and 100% it since I got half the achievements on my first play through and I really enjoyed it.
yeah one of the reasons I don't like it when games become mainstream, they become simpler, streamlined and easy to digest for the mass market. Niche is where its at
I think that if they just split their focus a little more, it would have been perfect. They can keep the action sequences like the Lycan Stronghold and Chris's part (which I thought honestly fit his character), as long as there are more parts like House Beneviento in between them. The two different kinds of stress going back and forth would be interesting. Stress from fear or horror alone and the stress of struggling to survive combat with supernatural adversaries. Edit: Aside from my Chris segment opinion, it appears you were gonna say what I just did. Lol. Great video man.
I would prefer If they just make it a realistic action shooting fps game. Tbh the story is too ridiculous and the only part that made sense was chris going in there with his team to blow shit up. Also his guns were way more realistic and the gameplay was more fast paced. They should just ditch the horror altogether and maybe add a first person multiplayer mode
@@solbenjib7580 so you want a new re6 which was absolutely the worst in the franchise? Re is a survival horror game, it is about having few ammunitions, trying to survive all the horror that is coming your way, with too much munition and more action the game woulf lose it's identity and meaning..

Don't wanna play as those ugly chicks from 2 and 3 remakes who in no way in hell look or act like the Claire and Jill i knew.
If they wanted to tone it down they should've stuck with making 8 more like part 5 or 6 definitely something a little different and longer then what they did.
Sample groups do. Sadly they're more out of touch than the dev's are. It was pretty aggravating to see how fast they dropped the tension filled atmosphere of the dollhouse to rush back to the rootie shootie bang bang nonsense.

They make the best of it in this game just as they did the remakes. I can’t wait to see what they do for the next one!
Because it won't be scary with the old characters. Freddy Krueger stopped being scary for most after the 3rd/4th movie. the old characters are tied with Umbrella, and biological weapons terrorism. RE7 would've been more scary if they followed the Demo.
take a step away, doesn't mean he wants Capcom to put them in retirement hall. That's how you want this series to go down???
@@TheAnhphuong92 If you want more horror, yes that's what you want. The whole reason we got a new protag in 7 was because the developers stated the classic characters were too experienced and overpowered to make a horror game centered around them. So unless you want RE6, stop asking for games centered around them.
One of my biggest gripes with the game was how much they wasted the character of Heisenberg. Ever since Wesker died, RE games are missing that feeling of a mainstay „true“ Villain now. I guess you could say Ada exists, but she is hardly a „Villain“. So when i saw Heisenberg, with his powers, his look, his charisma and overall backround story to Miranda, i truly hoped that he would become the new Wesker of the series. Something like how Ethan would actually join Heisenberg in killing Miranda, only then for Heisenberg to kill Ethan and kidnap Rose who he then brings back to BSAA (we saw he had a Map of their, so he might be in contact with them) and from there, he would work with BSAA, creating *mechanical* Bio Weapons and generally be that one guy always some steps ahead of you in games. But nah, he got like 10 minute screen time in total and then death.
I love him, too. He kinda feels like a deuteragonist, being the only one of the four lords that has the most interaction with you. I really hope he will be part of any future DLCs. I also would've LOVED for Capcom to actually make the game branch into two paths once he offers you a truce to take down Mother Miranda. I wanted him to succeed, he was the only lord I didn't want to kill. Other than the other clishee villains of the series, he brought some self-loathing and hate towards a common enemy. I REALLY wanted him to become something bigger :/
TBH I wish they would just make Chris the new Wesker, coming full circle, where Chris's obsession with stopping these bio-terrorists makes him into the monster hes been fighting the whole time. Kinda wish they had taken this opportunity to do that. But I disagree with Joe here. The cast got so convoluted and full of carbon copys of each other. I kind of enjoy that Capcom took this opportunity to pair it down a bit. Not every game has to be a world ending catastrophe.
Speaking about BSAA. At the end, we learned that BSAA sent BOWs. And those BOWs use Chris’ head model. What if BSAA had cloned Chris? And use those specimens as BOWs? But this is just my speculation.

I feel that's harder to create than starting fresh with a new character, like Ethan.
same. Did he really think that having Chris behave like a scared newbie would work after he's been fighting bioweapons/terrorists since 1996?

There were so many points where I’ll piece things together and then Ethan will just ask “what the fuck is going on?” And I just wanna pay him on the head and say “don’t worry about it Ethan, just keep shooting sweetheart”

Yes, but they never contradict themselves or anything. And it's not like they're spoiled so much so to the point that they don't even really know what they want anymore. It's not like they complain for complaining's sake or anything.
Either way, this channel has proven recently that no matter what, things will never be good enough again for them anymore, which seriously, must be a really fun way of living..

@@chippu668 I've commented about this in many places. This is less Resident Evil than 4,5,6, and even 7, and I don't understand why people like it
I personally liked the Chris part, it gives you 5 minutes as a tanky badass while you spent the rest of the game as a gravely injured wet paper bag, they even amp up the music.
@@P1T4Bot I enjoyed it try putting Chris in Ethans position it would never work.
@@P1T4Bot Its a bit to much action. I think the perfect balance woulda been 2 bosses horror af, with a mix for the last one. And 2 bosses actiony.
Yeah I kind of disagree with this entire review tbh
@@mcdonaldsbigmac3935 the boss fights did slightly disappointing to be fair
The game absolutely wasn’t scary enough
i died at OJ being chased by Alex 😂😂😂
I can’t really complain about a 15-20 minute high octane Chris call of duty moment
No bolder tho :(
Can’t really have Chris or Leon in a game anymore and have that part be horror. Since they are so well prepared and well, overpowered characters in this universe now lol. I didn’t mind the section at all either.
@@DeceivedHeretic ironically Ethan ends up being the most overpowered. Can't even kill him by ripping his heart out. He's also the franchises biggest dumbass in alot of ways.
@@DarkLightGaming117 Wellll I wouldn’t say the MOST overpowered. He isn’t very skilled or seasoned compared to Leon and Chris. Those 2 are literally like superheroes with their strength, agility, skill, and intelligence. They fought shit that seem impossible to die hundreds of times. They are pretty insane now.
Yea, I dont get it. I thought that section was great. Like the Village became huge and way more dangerous and the zerg was coming. But they contained it just in time. Thought it was sick.
Lmfao love how Alex crouches into the room just like she does! Even in a skit good attention to detail, nice guys! 👌🏻

Nice to see ya here, love ya vids
Yes indeed
What's good birdman? Good to see you here.
Yo sup bro
I just want a new RE game that goes back to its roots and focuses on Chris and Jill's story. It's been so long since they both starred in a game together and I think it's only fitting that they should be brought back together in the next title.
Amazing acting in this review 😂

Damn, I disagree entirely. I have to say, I really liked this game. It's something I immediately wanted to replay which hasn't happened to me since I beat Bioshock: Infinite.
Well 7 was a way better experience. It was actually scary
@@MrSPIDEY21 RE7 is great until you reach the last section. That boat flashback part brought the game down from a 9 to a 7 for me. Before reaching that part I was like "Oh man, really want to replay this to get everything and maybe see how fast can I do it" after the Boat part "Ya, I don't really want to do this ever again".
Did you play the first two Bioshock games and the 7th resident evil game?
@@taigaaisaka6305 yeah the boat part sucked. I feel like the best part of 7 was everything at the baker estate and the VHS tapes were like side missions to help you later. For re8 the best parts are the starting of the village, everything with lady D and her castle and the doll house. I personally feel like in 8 they killed off their best villains too early. I would have liked to explore the castle even more and take out the ugly swamp dude in favor of more castle stuff.
I had the exact same reaction to the whole “re 7 was too scary” bs. Not sure who read that and thought it wasn’t a huge compliment. What is wrong with a horror survival game actually terrifying the player? 😒
its fake thats why. No one would actually say that. Also game companies dont change their games when some random kid makes a complaint. They make business decisions based on maximum profit.
@@NoxLegend1 i didnt buy it because i didnt wanna be scared the whole time just getting jump scared i like games like last of us that can have jump scares horror and great story an dialogue without jumping the whole time
lot of people on reddit were actually saying that,i think Capcom is appealing to the re5 and 6 fans for whom they made a ps4/xbox port for. It's clear they should make a separate franchise for these people or kids but resident evil should always stay horror focused preferably with male protagonists as well.
15:05 "My no-no area" is where I lost it. And damn, OJ can keep intense eye contact during these sections like no ones business^^
My house ‘Our House!’
My daughters ‘Your daughters’
😂😂
My property “Our property”
R E 7 was pretty intense for me when ive got ppl screaming my name at me the whole time xD
I just realized that when you die, it says “you are dead” instead of “you died”, which it used to in the previous games and not to spoil anything but it makes sense given the later sections of the game.
Bro, I finished the game and i know what you mean regarding spoilers, but I still don't fully understand , between the you are dead and you died, sorry I'm a little dumb haha, can u explain plz ? ^_^
@@davelock8954 you died is implying you just became deceased, whereas you are dead only says the fact that Ethan is dead
@@gem.scheltema There is literally no difference. One is a state of being, and one is the action leading into that state of being. Saying "someone died" just explains that a person is now dead as a verb. It wouldn't make as much sense if someone "They are dead when they got shot in the head." It makes more sense to say "They died when they got shot in the head."
I think you are reading into it too much.
@@Lord_Poyo except Ethan *is* dead, therefore saying “you are dead” makes complete sense. If Ethan is already dead, saying “you died” doesn’t make as much sense.
@@Lord_Poyo of course there's no difference between the two technically, but if you know the context, it makes sense. As Dylan said, makes less sense to say Ethan died when he died over 3 years ago, vs. you are dead.
Did he say “Want to taste Lady D?” or “Want a taste of Lady D?” This is very important.
Alex said "If you wanna taste Lady D...."
clever ad ;)
Why not both?
The house with the dolls with the baby at the end was a truly scary. I found the puzzle areas too easy, i wish they had difficulty settings for those.
Example 1
*Sees Locked cabinet
*Sees sticky note
*Reads note-“look out the window”
*Combination is outside the windows
Example 2
*Locked cabinet
*Looks around the room
*Sees brightly coloured children’s picture with a date on it (ex:12/13/17)
*Puts date into combination lock
*Cabinet opens
Yeah the doll house was the best pt like experience since pt itself lol
I haven't played the game yet but when I saw the meeting between the bosses and saw the doll, I knew her level's gonna be the most fucked up creepy level.
I watched PewDiePie's playthrough. And yes, everything so dark and scary but the puzzles could be solved just by going to another room, backtrack a bit,or both. I found myself screaming at the screen with the solution of the puzzle before he got it :D
Ah,i don't play horror games,but i watched the gameplay/playthrough because I'm curious about the story. I couldn't watch RE7. It's too much lolol
I finally had the opportunity to play this through, and it was awesome! I love the Winters’ lore. Solid 8/10, may 9/10. The gameplay is phenomenal, the story is great, the horror is grotesquely underrated, and the bad guys are so much fun. One of the best REs. The RE Engine is a beast. They make the best of it in this game just as they did the remakes. I can’t wait to see what they do for the next one!
Who asked?

Not since Abby from TLOU2 has Alex seen such perfect casting.
I agree
Joe on RE7: I'm so glad to take a step away from all the old characters!
Also Joe on RE8: Give me the old characters back!
Because it won't be scary with the old characters. Freddy Krueger stopped being scary for most after the 3rd/4th movie.
the old characters are tied with Umbrella, and biological weapons terrorism.
RE7 would've been more scary if they followed the Demo.
Dis virgin thought he did something
take a step away, doesn't mean he wants Capcom to put them in retirement hall.
With the introduction of Rosemary the captain marvel of RE universe, which mean at least 15 years has passed since re8, which means most of old RE characters are old and retire.
@@theworstcatholic7247 agreed.

OMG I died from laughing too hard. You guys killed me with those skits.
Lady Dimitrescu - I will show you what it means to insult House Dimitrescu!
Me: *Death by snu-snu?*
Shouldn’t have been named heisenberg way too soon
TBH I wish they would just make Chris the new Wesker, coming full circle, where Chris's obsession with stopping these bio-terrorists makes him into the monster hes been fighting the whole time. Kinda wish they had taken this opportunity to do that. But I disagree with Joe here. The cast got so convoluted and full of carbon copys of each other. I kind of enjoy that Capcom took this opportunity to pair it down a bit. Not every game has to be a world ending catastrophe.
Honestly at this point I’m just waiting for alex wesker but I doubt it’ll ever happen like that again. They just kill everyone off now a days
Speaking about BSAA. At the end, we learned that BSAA sent BOWs. And those BOWs use Chris’ head model. What if BSAA had cloned Chris? And use those specimens as BOWs? But this is just my speculation.
"Sorry not sorry I shot your wife Ethan, I have no time to explain"
*Procceeds to Fumble around with a ridiculous amount of weapons*
Lmfao that was great.
