    Awesome video-love the cockpit POV! Great review on the Pros and Cons. I am trying to buy an SL5 but of course they are in very short supply. Comfort for me is big as I want to do some bikepacking so I am glad you agree the ISOSpeed is the real deal. I like the compartment - it does seem like a very clean design.

    I was looking to purchase an SL5 but they were nowhere to be found. Same with SL6. So I ended up buying a Domane+ ALR which was available.
    There is still a lot of snow here, so I’ll have to wait a bit to ride it.
    Take care and have fun 🤩

    Always love your laid back style of narration John. My Domane (2018 SL6 purchased new for a discount in 2019) just suffered a broken spoke. Dang! (suggestion: be sure to carry a small size zip tie in your jersey pocket for such occasions - I secured the spoke and was able to ride 20 mi home without any issue.) Upon close inspection at the Trek dealer they found a mid-line fracture in the aluminum rim opposite the broken spoke, so a purchasing a replacement rim was necessary. (I ride gravel alot so the extra wear and tear was not unexpected.) Fortunately the rim was covered by the original 2 yr Trek warranty and I was credited $200 on the purchase of a replacement! That is another of the advantages of taking your baby into an authorized Trek dealer - they will check if repairs are covered by warranty whereas other shops may not bother to check on this. I decided to upgrade to carbon Aeolus rims (front and back, tubeless). How about a video of your DIY maintenance, roadside fixes, preventative measures, and other repair experiences? Hope yours have been as positive as mine! Ride on.

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate that! Wow what an unfortunate situation that luckily had a positive ending. Those Aeolus carbon rims are nice! And I agree, I always check with my local Trek shop as well. Hopefully this information can help someone in a similar situation.

    I got my 2021 Domane SL 5 in January and have put close to 3k miles on it so far. I have severe scolisis with a fused upper spine. The Domane is absolutely great for me because I need a more upright position and and the less vibrations being transferred to my back the better. If it wasn't for bikes like the Domane, I wouldn't be able to ride a road bike.
    I agree, the IsoSpeed is truly a real thing/works. I say if your goal is to go on long rides, the Domane is one of the best bikes you can consider. No matter who you are, you are going to last longer on an endurance bike like the domane because you won't get sore as quickly.

    Love your videos! I got the same bike in the same color back in Dec. We even have mostly the same accessories (I did get the Garmin Varia Radar light, I won't ride without now).
    Definitely agree with everything you said here. Great bike and a good overall value when you consider the gravel options. Was messing around with it at my bike shop the other day and they were able to fit the 40mm Bontrager GR1s from a Trek Checkpoint with enough clearance to safely ride it. That's bigger than what some gravel bikes even offer.

    Took delivery of my Domane SL4 on Saturday. Matt at All American Bicycle in Damascus, MD spent about an hour fitting me to the bike. Well worth the time and effort. I have never had a dropped handlebar road bike that is as comfortable as this one. The carbon frame is amazing. Smooth riding and very lightweight. I haven’t ridden it very far yet but so far I haven’t experienced the back/neck and shoulder pain that I’ve had with dropped handlebar bikes in the past. The 10 speed Tiagra groupset seems to be good on the roads around my house but I am concerned about having enough gear to climb some of the roads going up to the High Rock/Blue Ridge Summit area. I may switch out the gear cluster for something with a 32t gear on it. Part of me wishes that I had stepped up to the SL5 but I’m real happy with the cost and color of the SL4 with the option to upgrade the groupset later. Thanks for another great vid and safe riding!

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First congrats on the new bike, That’s awesome! I was just like you where drop bars would give me neck and back pain. Also not a bad route going with the SL4 and if you see you like it a lot or feeling like you are missing the extra gear, you can step up to a 105 at a later time.

    observation is right on target and I am in total agreement. I had Trek Domane, Pinarallo Gan , Specialized Rubaix and just got the Tarmac sport. IMHO, both Specialized and Trek makes the best endurance bike and really enjoyed the future shock on Rubaix but I wanted something little faster and lighter and replaced it with Tarmac which is in the same category as Madone. I really wanted the Ultegra group set but the bike prices have really gone up sharply in the past two years. as a casual rider, $5000+ was little too much and the current Tarmac Sport is what I wanted in the price range. I could have saved few hundred on Cannondale CAAD13 with Ultegra group set but have decided to stick with Specialized. latest 105 group set is very good and I can't really tell the difference between the past Ultegra group set other than sometimes it's little slower during fast shifting.

    Agree with everything you have said John and love the Domane.
    I have the sram etap and really like it, the 12 speed cassette gives you a gear for every occasion and I will admit at 73 was thinking of going electric but am now glad I didn’t, with the gearing I have some of the big hills I ride are not a problem and completed a 100 kayer the other day with said big climbs.
    Overall as you say the couple of small negatives are far outweighed by the positives you have outlined, would definitely purchase again.

      Hey Mark. And I agree. The wheels are a big part of the weight and totally neglected the ability for fender mounts which are definitely a big plus under the versatility category. Great point and thanks for bringing those up. That rear saddle mount makes the rear light look so clean.

    The integrated seat post is not the best design in the world since sand, dust and mud can easily get between the seat post and the frame. De decoupler also needs some attention. I did a lot of gravel rides with mine and it needed already to be serviced 3 times. The 105 group works very well and doesn't need any attention 👌. I ride mine with Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M 40mm's. It works but it really is the max. These are the best gravel tires available on the marked for a descent price and I tried quite a few different tires.
    The Shimano shifters started rattling after 5000km's and nothing can be done about it 😪.
    The storage compartment is great and the excess panel doesn't rattle even after 15000km's of gravel 👍.
