I just got a 2023 Domane AL5 this past Spring, and I'm finding that I do 70% light gravel riding with it. I went with 32mm Bontrager AW3's and I've had zero flats. They ride very smooth for me and I definitely recommend them to anyone as a solid, worry free, do anything tire.

That’s cool, but I would not trust it. Those TSA workers do not care about your bike unless this case can hundreds of pounds of pressure on top of it, a hard case. I just had a check bag with snorkel gear that came back broken.

Found your videos recently. Love them. Looking at a 2020 trek domane SL brought me here. $1000 and in great shape. Sounds like a great deal so I'm deciding if I should pull the trigger. I'm sure you've mentioned it in another video but where are you riding? Looks like somewhere in NY.

Absolute magic! Love my bike and love NY!! You've got such a lovely style and attitude John. Most of my riding since the mid 80's has been in and around central London, but I'm now lucky enough to be retired to rural Andalucia (Spain). Gorgeous biking country to be sure, but I love riding my bike anywhere, and commuted in all weathers in London (ie NOT a solar-powered cyclist😊). Hands down the best way to get about in cities. Riding takes me right back to being a kid again, a feeling that has never left me. And this vid echoes my feelings perfectly. Thanks again mate for (genuinely) the best video I've seen on any subject ever! Take care hombre.

I really need your help man. Which one should I get? Is it the Merida Scultura 200 Disc or Trek Domane Al2 Disc? Considering I’m not a racer but I do love speed. Also, here in my country we don’t have perfectly nice road so slightly wider tire is better. Really need help coz I want a bike that is worth it and I’ll not probably change bike for a long years.

Great video. Just rode Empire State trail 55 miles with R3s. Fast tire and pretty strong - I hit some pot holes and I’m 190lbs

What system do you have that allows you to display on TH-cam the MPH, BPM, RPM, and Watts?

i had a giant escape 3, i felt the wider tyres and weight of the bike was a limiting factor. It was always in the back of my mind what if i could have a machine which was actually designed with speed as a priority in mind, as even with the hybrid i was occasionally chasing cars on 30mph roads and them being stuck at the lights i would just swift pass them but this was with me fully puffed out. I now haver a roadie, and pschycologically its satisfying atleast that the most limiting factor now for speed would be myself.

John, What is the official color called that Trek gives for your bike in the video? I just picked up the same one in the model year 2021. Burgundy?? TIA

I agree riding through The City is one of the great pleasures of life and always picks me up if things have been going down for me lately. Manhattan is certainly the great school that teaches you to be confident riding in the streets. You just have to remember to maybe not be quite so confident when you elsewhere as drivers are not as used to confident bike riders as they are in New York. Nice ride muh man, peace!

Ever done a circuit of Manhattan? 35 miles, plenty of uptown climbs, nice downhills through the Hudson River Greenway and then some street riding back up again (depending on your starting position).

I am going to buy a FX3 and have the LBS upgrade the drive train to 50/34 Tiagra 11-36T cassette in about two weeks. I need an upright riding position.

I think the weight savings of the ETAP version are minimal. The greatest advantage is the electronic vs. manual shifting. If you want or value electronic shifting, then your choice is clear. It should be mentioned, however, that the Ultegra-level components of the manual-shift bikes are considered higher quality than the Rival-level of the ETAP. The main reason the ETAP is more expensive is the electronic shifting itself. I don't think the 12-speed vs. 11-speed shifting is particularly significant. I don't know where the difference in weight comes from, since the manual Ultegra should be lighter than the electronic Rival. The reason I'm commenting on these bikes in 2024 is that I just bought a leftover 2022 SL6 ETAP.

I guess same thing will be with a mountain bike. But in that case a mtb would have to handle some hits, rocks, crashes. If a bike can't handle a crash it's not for me. But I have a bike that can handle way more than I throw at it, so I feel safe. I'm not a roadie. Keep in mind lifetime warranty is lifetime of the production. Not your lifetime.

your friend in front's saddle is too high. knees swinging left and right, and the hips are rocking. it doesn't look comfortable.
