I own the SL6 Gen 4 with Pro51 wheelset. BUY IT IF YOU'RE ON THE FENCE!! I put 4,000mi on it since March 2023, it's a fantastic ride. I traded in my 2021 Domane SL5 (purchased in 2020) for this as the iso-speed is redesigned, wanted the Di2, and the bike is ~1-1/2 pounds lighter (~18.5 pounds) The bike is also much faster, especially with the Pro51 wheelset. I ride a 54cm frame with a 80mm stem.

Fantastic! Totally love the Domane. Super comfortable for both road and gravel riding. You're probably going too far by calling the Bontrager R3 Hard Case Lite tyres low end as the price difference between them and the Continental GP5000 is not very significant. The R3 Hard Case Lite are even the tyres that come with the Trek Madone SL6 (an actual racing bike). In the video you are referring to, you have replaced the original tyres of the Trek Domane AL 4 which are the Bontrager R1 Hard Case Lite and not the R3 ones. You also tested the tyres using an inner tube whereas the Trek Domane SL5 comes with tubeless tyres. Tubeless tyres usually allow the rider to go faster and the weight difference between the Continental ones and the Bontrager R3 Hard Case Lite tyres is only 20g. I'm not sure this would make a substantial difference for the average road cyclist. To me, they are perfectly fine on the road with a tubeless setup and they are very resistant to punctures.
I'm looking at the Domane SL5 Gen 4 2024 at the moment. Seems like it has a lot going for it, such as the tyre clearance, internal storage, Iso feature, and clean headset. However, I'm also a bit sceptical due to reviews of a potential creaky seat post and that it weighs quite a bit more than it's competitors. I'm on the fence between the Domane SL5 Gen 4 2024 and Pinarello X1 at the moment, they're both £3000 in the UK. I was also looking at the Canyon Endurace CF 7 but that comes with 650B wheels in my size, which I'm not too keen on. Love your video by the way, it's just what I needed while researching my choices before buying.
The IsoSpeed is no longer adjustable, by the way. The flap at the bag and the screw located on the top is for adjusting the seatpost. Trek has preset the IsoSpeed at its medium setting permanently.
@@tubesockets120v Not sure if theres a weight range, just the level of compliance you want i.e. how much you want it to give. I am 150lbs...I notice no actual give in the seat, but do notice a huge difference in comfort from the system
Great video. I like this bike a lot. I'm seriously thinking about buying it. Unfortunately, I am exactly on the border between sizes 56 and 58. I tried both sizes and I felt better with size 56. But when I saw myself in the video and photos, I feel that it is small for me. I am 180.5 cm tall and my inseam is 85 cm. I should probably say I've only ridden a mountain bike so far. Could you tell me what size Trek Domane SL 5 wheel you have and how tall you are and what your inseam is? When I see you riding this bike, it looks great on you. Thank you for your reply
Hey, thanks for the comment! I am 185 cm tall with a 86.5 cm inseam. Funny enough, I am also exactly in between sizes, although for me it’s between 58 and 60. Similar to you, I tried both and felt the 58 felt better, so I went with the 58, but they both felt great. For you, I’d probably go more based on how it feels rather than how it looks. As long as it feels natural and like you could maintain the position for several hours, you should be good. Feel free to keep me posted!
Found 6 gen4 for 2350... But seatpost being proprietary is a big bummer. Seems like it slips just like other D-shaped proprietary seatposts that other manufacturers use.
I’m looking to get the slr 7 4th gen in trek segafredo paint job. It comes with sram force so that’s the only issue I have as have never used it. Never used electronic shifting before either.
I find myself following a similar progression in my biking journey - after having built up what I thought would be my dream bike based on a Specialized Aethos frameset, I find myself going back to my Cannondale CAAD13 more often than not due to the more comfortable geometry. I'm not finding any meaningful difference in performance between the two bikes either, except on climbs (according to Strava). I think this just goes to show that you get to the point of diminishing returns pretty fast after the mid-tier price point.
I can't recommend this bike enough. I have the 2024 Domane SL5 with 105 12 speed, it is an absolute beauty. Very comfortable, capable, and responsive bike. For anyone considering this bike, I strongly recommend a proper, professional bike fitting to maximize your enjoyment of the bike.
What an awesome post! I gain so much knowledge, inspiration, drive and encouragement from all of your vids! Thanks so much for all the time you put into your videos for people like me that are just getting into more serious biking. Are you single? If you are, that's crazy because you are amazing!!! (ha ha. Hope that wasn't weird....but, really? Are you? :) )
Hey thank you for this great informative video!! I ordered mine last week. I just wonder wether you use spd pedals on this bike. Since you tends to prefer more comfortable casual build here I would like to hear your opinion as a new bicyclist?
Thank you for watching, and congrats on the new bike! You're going to love it. I haven't used spd pedals on this bike personally, but you can certainly do that and I they would be just fine. I also wouldn't rule out simple flat pedals if you are more casual focused. I know people who use spd pedals on super high end race bikes and they work great, so I'd say go for whatever is most comfortable for you.
I use SPD pedals on this bike, they work great for me. I appreciate the comfort of SPD cleats compared to SPD-SL, especially when getting off the bike. No regrets going with SPD for my style of riding (i.e. not racing)
Thank you for watching! I was riding 28mm, but as of recently, I’d probably even go 30mm since it’s more comfortable and I have not noticed any reduction in speed.
@@hikerbikeromar Been riding almost a week with the 30mm now. I have to say I've really been enjoying them. Did a 50mile break-in ride and wasn't strained or jarring. Was just a really comfortable ride. Thank you for the advice!

@@hikerbikeromar Thanks for the info! I got a size 52 although I am a 54 thinking I would be fine because there is only a 3mm reach difference but what I didn't realize is that the stack is 14mm shorter on the 52 than the 54! So I returned the 52. Made sure to try a size 54 again in store (only had SL6 and AL5 in store but tried them just to check the sizing) and now I am waiting for the SL5 in size 54 to come in! Glad I decided to return it before the return window. The 52 also felt really squirrelly. I feel much more comfortable, confident and in control on the 54.
@@usernamediv Good call on swaping it out while you were still in the return window! Yes over time, I've started to find that for the Domane in particular, sizing up tends to be common, and the reach difference between frame sizes is not that much like you metioned. I'm super happy you like it! It's really an awesome bike.
I am picking up my Domane SL 5 Gen 4 Disc 2023 today. It only has the 11 gear rear cassette, but think that will do me. May consider taking your advice and changing the wheels though! Thanks again
Thanks!! Though just had a call from the bike shop. It’s in but the stem has a v1 bracket fitted. They said there have been issues with the v1 and that they’ve ordered a replacement. Kudos to them for fixing it before it’s a problem - but I have no idea what that means! Was so looking forward to getting it too!! Going to be a couple of days.
@andrewpndavies oh man sorry to hear that! Like you said, that’s good they caught it in advance. Sounds like a fantastic bike shop. You’ll love it man, totally worth the wait. I took mine out again today and it’s just the perfect ride.
Thanks! Both are great bikes. The 2023 Roadmachine is going to be a bit more aggressive and will probably feel a bit snappier and more racy, whereas the Domane in my opinion is more comfortable and predictable. I actually did a review on the 2023 Roadmachine Three which you can find below, which is similar to the Roadmachine Five. th-cam.com/video/5OgR-VRFlV0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QWiWnaCRje8yGX06 The brand new 2025 Roadmachine I haven't ridden yet, but judging by the geometry, it will have a higher stack than the Domane but a longer reach. I'm curious to try it.
How much did it cost to get the aero wheels? I thought of the more expensive models for the wheels, but if i can swap out the wheels for aero like u I might just do that.
The main difference is the storage compartment and the isospeed which smooths out the ride. The AL doesn’t have those. It’s really up to you, but I think the AL is perfectly fine for most people.
¡Buena suerte!
How does this bike compare to a 2024 Specialized Roubaix SL8 in terms of comfort on old, poor quality, bumpy, narrow roads? I buy one new bike about every 10 years, so I'm so concerned about the cost. I want comfort first and foremost. I'm coming from a Look 566 carbon on 28mm GP5000 AS tyres. It's a comfy bike, but even more comfort would be nice.
It all depends on each person, but I think generally speaking you'll find the Trek Domane more comfortable due to its geometry. Both are great bikes, so I'd definitely try both out in store first before making a decision.
I haven’t ridden the Endurace, but on paper, the Domane has a more comfortable geometry. Everything I’ve read about the Endurace indicates to me that the Domane is more comfortable.
I am 185 cm tall with an 86.5 cm inseam. The 58 works for me but yes in retrospect, I think the 60 would have been better. I am sort of in between sizes, but I would have gone with the 60 if I could do it over again.
I now have a Specialized Sirrus hybrid. I am on the verge of buying a Domane SL 5 Gen 4!! because I need to get a little more speed. I want to go on C* rides (11. -13 mph) now I only go on C rides at about 9 -11). Besides comfort do you think it will give me a little more speed??
Yes definitely! The Domane will be more aerodynamic and put you in a position that is more conducive to speed. Slap some Conti GP 5000 tires on there and it will be amazing.
@@hikerbikeromar Thank you so much. Now I am getting different opinions on tire width. It comes with 32 tires which surprised me! Should I replace them with 28cc tires??
@kewpiedoll3607 good question! Personally, I would put 28mm continental GP 5000 tires on there for sure. They will most likely be faster than the stock tires. And you could probably sell the stock tires on eBay or FB marketplace!
@@GREATVOVA I put a deposit on this bike today and now I am all worried about creaking issue should I back out. I mentioned it in the store and they are even aware of the issue but say I am under warranty not to worry. They also said that the rev.4 iso part for the recalled rev. 1 is not in stock and on back order could be months
Would like your opinion. Found 2023 gen4 with 11 speed on sale for $2499, would it make sense to go with 11 speed for that price or spent another $1000 for 12 speed ? Thank you
You can’t actually mount an extra bottle underneath the frame from my understanding. I believe the screws you pointed out are for the di2 plastic mount/cable guide system that’s inside the downtube. I’ll know for sure in March/late February when I get mine in Dark Aquatic ☺️
Ah, thanks for sharing!! I was told previously that you could, but your explanation makes more sense. Enjoy the new bike! I absolutely love that color.
@@hikerbikeromarHeya, hope you’re doing well! Received the bike this week, sadly only a short 25km ride so far because of the shitty weather here 😂 Dark aquatic, a great colour! Anyways, update about the under frame “mounting” holes. The shop said, “Well technically it could be possible?” The hole sizing is about 570mm apart, so not a standard bottle cage distancing for the screw holes. I haven’t tried to see what the diameter of the screws are though, so that is something people need to check first. From my first glance it seems the diameter is a bit smaller then those for bottle cages.

Hmm, I can’t speak too much to it since I don’t have any experience with it. If not does creak, I doubt it would just be for heavier people. However, I also doubt it will be much of a problem. The IsoSpeed is no longer adjustable, by the way. The flap at the bag and the screw located on the top is for adjusting the seatpost. Trek has preset the IsoSpeed at its medium setting permanently.
What is the weight range of the medium setting?
@@tubesockets120v Not sure if theres a weight range, just the level of compliance you want i.e. how much you want it to give. I am 150lbs...I notice no actual give in the seat, but do notice a huge difference in comfort from the system
Excellent and thorough review! Thank you for your time and effort on this video.
Thank you for watching!
Good vid, the only factor is the weight, 19 lbs is heavy.
17:14 OmG. That’s way too upright for me. 😮😅
Just bought a bike.
Feels great man thanks for the review
Congrats on the purchase!
I agree!
Thanks for sharing!
What color?
I got the plasma grey pearl color... definitely the nicest color released for the 2024 models in my opinion
Dude we need a garage tour!!!
Haha duly noted! 🙂
I got thks at 2499 yesterday plus the shop paid the sales tax. Cant wait to take it out.
Amazing price!!
Are you? :) )
Fantastic review. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thanks man!
Thanks for watching!
No regrets going with SPD for my style of riding (i.e. not racing)
Thank you for all the information. It's a big help for me to get ready for a MS150 ride. What size tire are you riding with or recommend?
Thank you for watching! I was riding 28mm, but as of recently, I’d probably even go 30mm since it’s more comfortable and I have not noticed any reduction in speed.
@@hikerbikeromar Much appreciated! I was at a toss between 32 and 30mm. My local shop only has 30mm atm so was settling for those.
@BrentleyPursley Awesome! I really think 30 is perfect.
@@hikerbikeromar Been riding almost a week with the 30mm now. I have to say I've really been enjoying them. Did a 50mile break-in ride and wasn't strained or jarring. Was just a really comfortable ride. Thank you for the advice!
@BrentleyPursley that’s amazing, and exactly what I love to hear. Likewise, I wish I had switched to them sooner from my 25’s. Thank you for sharing!
Happy birthday !!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
🤣
Thanks for the video! I was wondering what mount you have at the front of your stem?
Thanks! It's just the regular Bontrager Blendr mount: www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-components/blendr-integration/pro-blendr/bontrager-xxx/pro/elite-stem-blendr-duo-base/p/25909/?colorCode=black

@@hikerbikeromar Oh yes I see that. Thank you! Did you also add extra spacers to the stem under your handlebars? I am trying to find information about how high the handle bars can be raised.
@@usernamediv I didn't change anything actually, I just used it how it was shipped to me. However, there's some great information in the Domane manual, if you click on the link below and then go to the "Fork and headset: max spacers" section.

Such a great informative video. Brilliantly well presented. Really helped me choose a Domane. Thanks
Thank you for watching!
I am picking up my Domane SL 5 Gen 4 Disc 2023 today. It only has the 11 gear rear cassette, but think that will do me. May consider taking your advice and changing the wheels though! Thanks again
@andrewpndavies you will absolutely love it. Congrats on the purchase!
Thanks for the review, great information! Curious as to your opinion on how the Trek Domane SL5 Gen 4 would compare to BMC's Roadmachine Five?
Thanks! Both are great bikes. The 2023 Roadmachine is going to be a bit more aggressive and will probably feel a bit snappier and more racy, whereas the Domane in my opinion is more comfortable and predictable. I actually did a review on the 2023 Roadmachine Three which you can find below, which is similar to the Roadmachine Five.
th-cam.com/video/5OgR-VRFlV0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QWiWnaCRje8yGX06
The brand new 2025 Roadmachine I haven't ridden yet, but judging by the geometry, it will have a higher stack than the Domane but a longer reach. I'm curious to try it.
How much did it cost to get the aero wheels? I thought of the more expensive models for the wheels, but if i can swap out the wheels for aero like u I might just do that.
They were $1k brand new, but you might be able to find on a discount. Lots of sales these days.
I prefer the snappiness of the Cervelo Caledonia which is still nicely compliant.
Have you tried them both?
What's a better choise, al vs sl....I dont know what going to carbon will bring be, except the storage compartment.
The main difference is the storage compartment and the isospeed which smooths out the ride. The AL doesn’t have those. It’s really up to you, but I think the AL is perfectly fine for most people.
Great review. How tall are you?Riding size 56?
Thanks! I’m 185cm in height with an 86.5 cm inseam, riding a size 58. Fits me like a glove.
Is Domane geometry more comfortable than canyon endurance ? They have same geometry? Have you ridden endurance ?
I haven’t ridden the Endurace, but on paper, the Domane has a more comfortable geometry. Everything I’ve read about the Endurace indicates to me that the Domane is more comfortable.
What aero handlebar are you using? Trek told me there is none compatible…
I’m using the Enve Aero SES In Route handlebar. Any Aero handlebar should work as long as it’s not a one piece stem/handlebar combo.
How tall are you and what is your inner leg length? Have you considered size 60?
I am 185 cm tall with an 86.5 cm inseam. The 58 works for me but yes in retrospect, I think the 60 would have been better. I am sort of in between sizes, but I would have gone with the 60 if I could do it over again.
I heard there have been seat post problems with creaking. Is there some truth to that?
That’s a great question. I’ve heard the same but I’ve never experienced any issues, so it seems OK to me, but that’s mostly anecdotal.
Can you tell us the rev the ISO seat post came with? I read its fixed on newer revs
Mine is a Rev 2
They say the ISOspeed makes lot of noise , did they fix that ?
I haven’t heard any noise at all from mine, so I do believe it is fixed.
I've heard that it was fixed since rev. 2 iso speed. New bikes shipping with rev. 4 iso speed.
@@davidroter5580 can't say nothing about this bike. Grab kona libre with great discount and feels happy. Light and comfy bicycle.
Would like your opinion. Found 2023 gen4 with 11 speed on sale for $2499, would it make sense to go with 11 speed for that price or spent another $1000 for 12 speed ? Thank you
I would absolutely go with the 11 speed version for $2499. I don't think one extra gear is worth the $1k price. $2499 is an excellent deal!
@@hikerbikeromar Thanks a lot. I'll go for it
@AVA-xx1jd you’ll love it!
Ok. But why is the not a “gravel” bike, or suitable for the Tour Divide?
not enough clearance for 'wide' tires, the max tire that will fit the domane is 700x38
how much of a difference is this sl5 compared to your al4 with upgraded tires and tubes?
Definitely a lot more comfortable given the carbon frame, and feels more premium in general. However, I don’t notice a difference in regard to speed.
The shop said, “Well technically it could be possible?”
The hole sizing is about 570mm apart, so not a standard bottle cage distancing for the screw holes. I haven’t tried to see what the diameter of the screws are though, so that is something people need to check first. From my first glance it seems the diameter is a bit smaller then those for bottle cages.
@@wimpie031 Thanks for letting me know! That is helpful, perhaps it's possible with a bit of modification. Sorry about the weather, but congrats on the new bike!
Trek Domane in size 58 is not really a standard 58 size, is more of a 56 in reality. So that stem should be 90 cm long instead of 100 cm.
@18:17 California! SNOW!! 😮
Actually, while recording this, I was temporarily in Chicago :)
@hikerbikeromar Lol. And there's me thinking you shattered my Hollywood image of Cali.
BTW. I'm still rocking a Gen 2 SL5 Domane, with quite a few carbon upgrades. A smooth mile muncher. Using it with a Tailfin Rack for touring - highly recommended👍👍
@@JibbaJabber Sounds amazing! Awesome setup, and I love the versatility!

I have not, no.
@@hikerbikeromar put down deposit today and i am a bit worried I think it has rev. 1 iso . Bike is on sale 3 199.00 dollars Canadian went down from 4500.00 I am 160 pounds maybe it only creaks for heavier guys what do you think?
Hmm, I can’t speak too much to it since I don’t have any experience with it. If not does creak, I doubt it would just be for heavier people. However, I also doubt it will be much of a problem. Even if it does creak, I would bet it is just a cosmetic/audio issue, and won’t actually break or anything. Did the shop you bought it from confirm it was a rev 1?
@@hikerbikeromar no not confirmed yet. I am going on Tuesday for the plunge or get deposit back Based on what I have heard in reviews, forums 60% of people complained about this issue, N ow I hear they are even upto Rev. 5 on this part. What's your opinion on fx6 sport newest version maybe that's a better deal.
@@davidroter5580 I'm personally not a fan of the FX sport series for long rides. They only allow your arms and hands to sit in one position, and it gets pretty uncomfortable over an hour or more. I think the Domane is a much more comfortable bike. The FX series is comfortable for a few minutes, but I think the Domane is definitely more comfortable than the FX.
See what the dealer says about the creaking seatpost, maybe they have a known solution, or at least can give recommendations on warranty?
omar is a daddy !!!!!!
Hahahaha there it is!
What is your “aero race bike”? Also what size is that bike ?
My Aero race bike is a 2020 Cervelo S3, size 58. It fits me very well, but fairly aggressive.
